0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. This is the time when we take a look at the forecast

0:00:05 > 0:00:06for the next ten days.

0:00:06 > 0:00:08And we will do that,

0:00:08 > 0:00:10but I want to focus first of all on the next few hours.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13We've had this Met Office red warning in force across parts

0:00:13 > 0:00:15of south-west England, south-east Wales.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18That expiring through the early hours of Friday morning.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20Still an amber warning in force,

0:00:20 > 0:00:22though, across parts of the south-west, also parts

0:00:22 > 0:00:25of Northern Ireland, north-east England,

0:00:25 > 0:00:26northern and eastern Scotland.

0:00:26 > 0:00:30Those Met Office warnings show where we are most likely to see

0:00:30 > 0:00:33the disruptive snowfall through the first part of Friday.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36Northern and eastern Scotland seeing the snow showers continuing

0:00:36 > 0:00:39and after a slightly quieter period, it looks like snow will

0:00:39 > 0:00:42return across southern areas later in the day.

0:00:42 > 0:00:46A lot of uncertainty about just how far north that snow will get.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48Another cold day, though, particularly

0:00:48 > 0:00:51when you factor in the strength of a biting easterly wind.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53The vast majority of places

0:00:53 > 0:00:56will feel sub-zero.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59But this snow could well be quite troublesome for Friday's rush hour.

0:00:59 > 0:01:03As I mentioned, though, uncertainty about how far north it will get

0:01:03 > 0:01:04and how much snow it will bring to

0:01:04 > 0:01:07places like Birmingham, London, Cardiff, Bristol.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10But it does look like that weather system will limp its way

0:01:10 > 0:01:14further north as we move out of Friday into Saturday.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16The snow on it tending to weaken.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19With low pressure still in charge down to the south-west,

0:01:19 > 0:01:21we're going to see a southerly wind attempting to bring us

0:01:21 > 0:01:24something a little bit less cold.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27I hesitate to use the world milder because I think it is

0:01:27 > 0:01:31still going to feel decidedly chilly through this weekend.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34But particularly down towards the south, a bit less cold than

0:01:34 > 0:01:38it has been and there is still the risk, in some places, of some snow.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40So let's take it day by day.

0:01:40 > 0:01:41This is Saturday.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43Remember that weather system limping northwards.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46It doesn't look like much at this stage, just some very patchy snow

0:01:46 > 0:01:49drifting across northern England, Northern Ireland, southern Scotland.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51Still snow showers into the north-east,

0:01:51 > 0:01:54a mix of rain and sleet and snow into the south-west.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57Still chilly, yes, but not quite as cold as it has been

0:01:57 > 0:02:00and that is a trend that continues into Sunday.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03It looks like we could see an area of patchy snow drifting northwards.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06A lot of uncertainty about the positioning of that.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09Still some snow showers into eastern Scotland and, again,

0:02:09 > 0:02:12we nudge those temperatures up by another degree or two.

0:02:12 > 0:02:142 to 8 degrees at best.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17Now, as we move out of Sunday into Monday,

0:02:17 > 0:02:19low pressure still in charge of the scene,

0:02:19 > 0:02:20but not too many white lines,

0:02:20 > 0:02:22not too many isobars on the chart.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25That means relatively light winds.

0:02:25 > 0:02:26But with those light winds,

0:02:26 > 0:02:29it is going to be a bit of a forecasting headache to work out

0:02:29 > 0:02:31exactly where the weather systems will move.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33We are likely to have some patchy snow

0:02:33 > 0:02:35drifting its way across some northern areas,

0:02:35 > 0:02:37but down to the south,

0:02:37 > 0:02:39the temperatures up to 7, 8, 9 degrees.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42Still below average, though, for the time of year.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45For Tuesday, a lot of dry weather around, some spells of sunshine.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47Any showers that fall at low levels

0:02:47 > 0:02:49most lightly to be rain and sleet

0:02:49 > 0:02:52at this stage with these slightly higher temperatures,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55but still the potential for some snow over high ground,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57particularly in the north.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59Later next week,

0:02:59 > 0:03:02the jet stream remains well away to the south of the UK.

0:03:02 > 0:03:03That leaves us in the cold air

0:03:03 > 0:03:07but as this dip in the jet stream approaches from the west,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09it is likely to spin up an area of low pressure.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11Now, exactly where this low ends up

0:03:11 > 0:03:13will be crucial in determining

0:03:13 > 0:03:16the temperatures for the end of next week.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18If it moves its way northwards, it will allow us

0:03:18 > 0:03:20to bring some milder air in our directions but

0:03:20 > 0:03:26if it slides away to the south, we are likely to be left in the cold.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28So still a lot to play for as far

0:03:28 > 0:03:31as the temperatures go next week.
