0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello there. After the snow and ice of the last week,
0:00:05 > 0:00:06I think you could be forgiven
0:00:06 > 0:00:09for wanting something a little bit quieter
0:00:09 > 0:00:11and a little bit milder through the days ahead.
0:00:11 > 0:00:15Well, the weekend will go some distance towards giving us that
0:00:15 > 0:00:17because it will turn slowly and I do mean slowly -
0:00:17 > 0:00:20a little less cold, some wintry showers, too,
0:00:20 > 0:00:23these showers coming as a mixture of rain, sleet and snow.
0:00:23 > 0:00:26So during Saturday, then, a band of cloud and some very light
0:00:26 > 0:00:29and patchy snow drifting northwards across northern England,
0:00:29 > 0:00:31Northern Ireland, into southern Scotland,
0:00:31 > 0:00:34still some snow showers across north-east Scotland.
0:00:34 > 0:00:36More likely rain across southern areas
0:00:36 > 0:00:39as this area of showery weather pushes its way in
0:00:39 > 0:00:41because it will be that bit milder here -
0:00:41 > 0:00:42seven degrees in Plymouth.
0:00:42 > 0:00:46Still, though, you'll notice a rather chilly feel further north.
0:00:46 > 0:00:48Now, as we move out of Saturday into Sunday,
0:00:48 > 0:00:50low pressure is driving the weather.
0:00:50 > 0:00:52The low sitting down here to the south-west -
0:00:52 > 0:00:55that means we're going to bring in southerly winds
0:00:55 > 0:00:57across the country so that will allow us
0:00:57 > 0:01:00to tap into some slightly less cold air.
0:01:00 > 0:01:02No more Beast from the East
0:01:02 > 0:01:05will be bringing these winds up from the south.
0:01:05 > 0:01:08Not especially warm, by any means
0:01:08 > 0:01:09and we could well start Sunday
0:01:09 > 0:01:11as well with some mist and fog patches,
0:01:11 > 0:01:14but at least there'll be some spells of sunshine through the day.
0:01:14 > 0:01:16This area of rain, sleet and hill snow
0:01:16 > 0:01:19drifting across northern England into southern Scotland,
0:01:19 > 0:01:21some showery rain into the south
0:01:21 > 0:01:23and those temperatures recovering a little bit -
0:01:23 > 0:01:24two degrees in Aberdeen,
0:01:24 > 0:01:26four degrees there in Birmingham
0:01:26 > 0:01:28and into Monday, that trend continues.
0:01:28 > 0:01:31We push this area of rain, sleet and hill snow northwards
0:01:31 > 0:01:34across Scotland, some sunny spells developing elsewhere.
0:01:34 > 0:01:36Still the potential for some showery rain to push in
0:01:36 > 0:01:39towards the south-west, but have a look at Monday's temperatures.
0:01:39 > 0:01:42Double digits down towards the south, 10, 11 degrees
0:01:42 > 0:01:46and even further north, some of that slightly less cold air
0:01:46 > 0:01:48will begin to make its presence felt.
0:01:48 > 0:01:51Now, out of Monday into Tuesday, low pressure still with us,
0:01:51 > 0:01:53still to the south-west.
0:01:53 > 0:01:57We still keep this broadly southerly flow across the country.
0:01:57 > 0:01:59We'll see showery rain pushing its way northwards.
0:01:59 > 0:02:02Still potentially some snow over high ground in the north,
0:02:02 > 0:02:04still cold enough for that over the hills,
0:02:04 > 0:02:07but at low levels, it will mostly be rain and sleet.
0:02:07 > 0:02:10Some spells of sunshine in between and those temperatures
0:02:10 > 0:02:12up to five degrees there in Aberdeen
0:02:12 > 0:02:14and 11 in London.
0:02:14 > 0:02:16Wednesday, similar on the face of it.
0:02:16 > 0:02:19Still some areas of rain, sleet and hill snow drifting across the map.
0:02:19 > 0:02:21Very difficult to predict at this range
0:02:21 > 0:02:24exactly where the wet weather will be at any given time on Wednesday
0:02:24 > 0:02:28and still some sunny breaks in the cloud at times.
0:02:28 > 0:02:30Those temperatures again slightly less cold -
0:02:30 > 0:02:326 in Edinburgh,
0:02:32 > 0:02:347 there in Birmingham.
0:02:34 > 0:02:37So, what's going on with next week's weather?
0:02:37 > 0:02:39Well, it is, as so often, all to do with the jet stream,
0:02:39 > 0:02:44which will basically be still a very long way south from the UK.
0:02:44 > 0:02:47That leaves us in some relatively cold air,
0:02:47 > 0:02:49but we're bringing the air in for more of a south
0:02:49 > 0:02:53or south-westerly direction so it won't be as cold as it has been.
0:02:53 > 0:02:57However, as we get towards the end of the week,
0:02:57 > 0:02:59we push this area of low pressure eastwards.
0:02:59 > 0:03:01That'll take some outbreaks of rain with it
0:03:01 > 0:03:03and on the back edge of that low,
0:03:03 > 0:03:05once the low ends up to the east of the British Isles,
0:03:05 > 0:03:07well, that will allow the winds to switch round
0:03:07 > 0:03:09to something more of a northerly.
0:03:09 > 0:03:11So that is likely to bring something a little colder
0:03:11 > 0:03:14in our direction by the time we get into next weekend,
0:03:14 > 0:03:15but not as cold as it has been
0:03:15 > 0:03:17and that's the big theme next week -
0:03:17 > 0:03:19not as cold as it has been.
0:03:19 > 0:03:20Some rain at times,
0:03:20 > 0:03:21still some snow over the hills,
0:03:21 > 0:03:24perhaps turning a little colder by the weekend,
0:03:24 > 0:03:26but hopefully nothing as disruptive
0:03:26 > 0:03:29as we've had to contend with through the last week.
