0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. The aftermath of the wintry weather

0:00:04 > 0:00:06still lingers across the British Isles,

0:00:06 > 0:00:08but the thaw is now in progress,

0:00:08 > 0:00:11and will extend further north as the days go by,

0:00:11 > 0:00:15many of us returning to average temperatures in the days ahead -

0:00:15 > 0:00:17but it will still stay unsettled,

0:00:17 > 0:00:20and there is still some snow in the forecast for Scotland.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22The reason for the change in type of our weather -

0:00:22 > 0:00:24instead of the high pressure and the Beast from the East,

0:00:24 > 0:00:27we now have a low pressure towards the south-west.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30Still pulling quite chilly air in on its northern flank,

0:00:30 > 0:00:33but that area is now being re-circulated around the low,

0:00:33 > 0:00:35pulled across warmer waters of the Atlantic, and modified,

0:00:35 > 0:00:39so, by the time it comes in to the south of the British Isles,

0:00:39 > 0:00:40it's just, oh, so much kinder.

0:00:40 > 0:00:44That cold nothing like what we had in the week just gone,

0:00:44 > 0:00:45and, in fact, as I said,

0:00:45 > 0:00:48the temperatures gradually getting close to average values.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50On Monday, though, the low will push some quite heavy rain

0:00:50 > 0:00:52into the south-west of England, Wales

0:00:52 > 0:00:53and eventually towards the Midlands.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55That could give some quite rapid thawing,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57and result in some flooding issues.

0:00:57 > 0:00:58Sunshine for many -

0:00:58 > 0:01:01still, though, some wintry showers across Scotland,

0:01:01 > 0:01:02but much milder here.

0:01:02 > 0:01:045 degrees for Edinburgh.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Then, overnight, Monday into Tuesday,

0:01:06 > 0:01:09we continue with our area of low pressure.

0:01:09 > 0:01:10Quite a flabby low -

0:01:10 > 0:01:12that means nothing too significant in the way of wind,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14and that could mean some mist and fog developing

0:01:14 > 0:01:16across the southern half of the British Isles.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19Meanwhile, it will push this front further north into Scotland,

0:01:19 > 0:01:22perhaps bringing some rain for Northern Ireland briefly on Tuesday,

0:01:22 > 0:01:23but, with a bit of intensity,

0:01:23 > 0:01:25we could again see some significant snow,

0:01:25 > 0:01:27particularly for the higher ground of Scotland.

0:01:27 > 0:01:28At lower levels,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30it should mostly be a case of rain -

0:01:30 > 0:01:32but, of course, rain landing on all of that snow,

0:01:32 > 0:01:35again, could cause an issue with the rapid melt.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38For Wednesday, quite a decent day for much of England and Wales,

0:01:38 > 0:01:41but there will be some showers developing in the forecast,

0:01:41 > 0:01:42and some of those could be pretty punchy.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44We could see some hail and thunder

0:01:44 > 0:01:46and, locally, some intense falls of rain.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Finally, though, a breather in the weather for Scotland -

0:01:49 > 0:01:52rain to the north and west, but, for many, some spells of sunshine,

0:01:52 > 0:01:56and 7 degrees is our forecast high, there, for Edinburgh.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Here we are looking at Wednesday into Thursday.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00Still that same area of low pressure -

0:02:00 > 0:02:02just cast your eye a bit further south, though.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04By Thursday, it looks like it could get something just developing

0:02:04 > 0:02:06on its tail end to the south,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09a weather front that could bring some heavier rain on Thursday

0:02:09 > 0:02:11into southernmost reaches of the British Isles.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13We could also see some showers across Northern Ireland

0:02:13 > 0:02:14and the north-west of England,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16and they could still be a little bit wintry.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18We still have that cold air close by,

0:02:18 > 0:02:21so it could, with a bit of intensity,

0:02:21 > 0:02:22turn those showers somewhat wintry.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24So, that's Thursday.

0:02:24 > 0:02:25Then, for Friday,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27it looks like the low will throw another front our way,

0:02:27 > 0:02:29with a risk of some snow across the higher ground of Wales

0:02:29 > 0:02:31and perhaps the Midlands -

0:02:31 > 0:02:34some heavy rain pushing in further south.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36By the time we get later on in the period, though,

0:02:36 > 0:02:39that's when our uncertainty starts to come into our forecast.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41It certainly looks like it will stay unsettled,

0:02:41 > 0:02:44but it's all down to the jet stream, and, later on in the week,

0:02:44 > 0:02:45it looks like we're going to get

0:02:45 > 0:02:47quite a big buckle in the jet stream.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49It looks like the axis of the jet stream, in fact,

0:02:49 > 0:02:51will push right the way across the British Isles,

0:02:51 > 0:02:52and, if it does that,

0:02:52 > 0:02:56it could actually feed some pretty mild air in to us from the south -

0:02:56 > 0:02:58but that, I'm afraid, is only one solution.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01That's possibly the more favoured one, of the two, at the moment,

0:03:01 > 0:03:04but we may just see that that dip in the jet stream

0:03:04 > 0:03:07isn't quite so extreme, so it may be that it's south-western Europe

0:03:07 > 0:03:10that benefits from the milder air later on next week.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13As I said, some uncertainty in that element of the forecast,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16so it will be worth staying tuned as we get closer to the time.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19Further ahead, though, the outlook relatively similar.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21Staying unsettled, more wind and rain to come,

0:03:21 > 0:03:24and still that risk of some snow for Scotland.

0:03:24 > 0:03:25Worth staying tuned.
