0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello there, it's obviously not as cold as it was last week.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07We've seen milder air pushing northwards to many

0:00:07 > 0:00:08parts of the country

0:00:08 > 0:00:12and with some sunshine on Monday it felt much more like spring.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15But quite a contrast still across the UK, further north,

0:00:15 > 0:00:18particularly in Scotland, it's still a very wintry scene.

0:00:18 > 0:00:19We had some more snow on Monday

0:00:19 > 0:00:22and we've got some more snow falling on Tuesday,

0:00:22 > 0:00:24mainly over the hills.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26The wetter weather continues to push its way northwards to bring

0:00:26 > 0:00:28that wintry mix across Scotland.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31Southern Scotland becomes drier, Northern Ireland

0:00:31 > 0:00:33and northern England brighter.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36A little sunshine after a dull and misty start for England and Wales.

0:00:36 > 0:00:41Could trigger one or two showers 12 in the south and 3 or 4 at best

0:00:41 > 0:00:45across northern Scotland so quite a contrast across the UK.

0:00:45 > 0:00:49We've still got low pressure in charge. Everything very slow moving.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51That weather system across the north-western

0:00:51 > 0:00:54parts of Scotland continuing to bring a mixture of rain

0:00:54 > 0:00:57and snow to the Highlands and Islands.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00Away from here to the south we have some stronger

0:01:00 > 0:01:02winds across southern parts of England and Wales.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05That should help to break up the cloud a little bit more.

0:01:05 > 0:01:06But there will also be quite a few showers

0:01:06 > 0:01:09and some of these could be on the heavy side,

0:01:09 > 0:01:11temperatures 6-9 degrees.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13Not great for this time of the year.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15Better than it was last week, of course.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18Those temperatures aren't going to change much on Thursday.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21Some rain not far away running through the English Channel.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23That could move a little further north into southern counties.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25Otherwise, we've got some showers.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27That wintry mix still towards the far

0:01:27 > 0:01:30north-west of Scotland by this stage.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33Low pressure is going to be a feature of our weather over

0:01:33 > 0:01:36the week ahead. That one sitting to the north-west of Scotland keeping

0:01:36 > 0:01:37that wintry mix going.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40There's another big one coming in from the Atlantic

0:01:40 > 0:01:42and that will be steering toward the UK.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44In between a little ridge of high pressure.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47So more places will be dry on Friday

0:01:47 > 0:01:49with more sunshine after a chilly start

0:01:49 > 0:01:50and maybe a touch of frost.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52A few wintry showers in northern Scotland.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55Later in the day we see the weather system bringing the wet

0:01:55 > 0:01:57weather into the far south-west.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00Temperatures could get as high as 10 or 11 in the south.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03But it's in the south that we're going to find these active

0:02:03 > 0:02:06weather fronts driven by that big area of low pressure.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09We're going to find some heavy rain developing for the start

0:02:09 > 0:02:10of the weekend.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13But those weather systems are bringing in some mild air

0:02:13 > 0:02:15but they're moving northwards

0:02:15 > 0:02:18into much colder air we're going to keep through the week ahead.

0:02:18 > 0:02:22Whilst we've got some heavy rain across southern parts of the UK,

0:02:22 > 0:02:26as it moves northwards we may find that rain turning to snow

0:02:26 > 0:02:28particularly over the hills of northern England, north Wales

0:02:28 > 0:02:30and into Northern Ireland.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33At this stage Scotland is going to be dry throughout

0:02:33 > 0:02:37much of the day, however everything moving its way northwards

0:02:37 > 0:02:42means we will get a mixture of rain and snow into Scotland overnight

0:02:42 > 0:02:43and into Sunday morning.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46And then the main driving area of low pressure

0:02:46 > 0:02:49drifts slowly across the UK, keeping the wet weather going.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51As that pulls away

0:02:51 > 0:02:54so we draw down this more north to north-westerly airflow.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57Never a particularly warm direction.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59There are more weather systems out in the mid-Atlantic

0:02:59 > 0:03:03and if we look at the jet stream later on we're going to find

0:03:03 > 0:03:06it in this sort of position picking up areas of low pressure

0:03:06 > 0:03:08and steering them towards the UK.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11But that jet stream is still a long way south.

0:03:11 > 0:03:15Essentially it means in the outlook we're going to stay unsettled.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18Areas of low pressure still, wind and rain.

0:03:18 > 0:03:19There's still the risk of snow, mind you,

0:03:19 > 0:03:23because we never get out of that colder air with the

0:03:23 > 0:03:27jet stream that far south the milder air is more in the near continent.
