0:00:03 > 0:00:05We may well have tamed last week's Beast from the East

0:00:05 > 0:00:08but this week looks likely to be a battle of the seasons.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11If you get the cloud breaks and some sunshine it will feel pleasant,

0:00:11 > 0:00:14dare I say it, almost spring-like. However,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16if you're sat under the cold air, which it has been for the last

0:00:16 > 0:00:19couple of days across Scotland, you're still likely to see

0:00:19 > 0:00:21the potential for some snow.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23During Wednesday it looks likely to be rain

0:00:23 > 0:00:26and sleet across the northern isles and just a scattering

0:00:26 > 0:00:29of showers across the north and west, a few into south-west England.

0:00:29 > 0:00:33And also a little bit of nuisance rain across the extreme south-east.

0:00:33 > 0:00:37Elsewhere, some sunny spells and highs likely of 6-10.

0:00:37 > 0:00:42A bit of a difference to the feel of things from a week or so ago.

0:00:42 > 0:00:46This area of low pressure not going very far very fast.

0:00:46 > 0:00:48Keeps some showers up into the north-west.

0:00:48 > 0:00:52Elsewhere the isobars open up. A quiet start to Thursday.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Maybe a touch of frost as well for one or two of us

0:00:55 > 0:00:59but there will be a good deal of dry weather in the story on Thursday.

0:00:59 > 0:01:00Just a scattering of showers.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03Perhaps a few showers across the south-east and one or

0:01:03 > 0:01:06two into the north which could turn wintry with any elevation.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08Generally speaking a quiet story.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12Still not particularly warm in Scotland, 6 or 7,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15highs of 10 in the south-east corner.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19As we move into Friday there's potential for a spell

0:01:19 > 0:01:22of more persistent rain to move in from the south-west affecting

0:01:22 > 0:01:24the south coast.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26Still under the influence of low pressure into the north.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29Still the risk of a few wintry showers wrapping around that

0:01:29 > 0:01:31low in the far north-west of Scotland.

0:01:31 > 0:01:35Highs of 6-10.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38As we move into Saturday it looks likely we will

0:01:38 > 0:01:41see this area of low pressure moving in from the south-west.

0:01:41 > 0:01:42Winds swing round to a south-westerly

0:01:42 > 0:01:45and that's going to drive in some milder air.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48The question is as it bumps into the cold air that's still

0:01:48 > 0:01:52sitting across the north we could see a spell of snow.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54There will be a great deal of uncertainty,

0:01:54 > 0:01:57just the timing of this and where it's likely to be sitting but

0:01:57 > 0:01:59maybe across the northern half of the country

0:01:59 > 0:02:01there could be some snow.

0:02:01 > 0:02:05Rain behind it as the milder air tucks in. 13 the high on Saturday.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08As that front moves through into Sunday again

0:02:08 > 0:02:12we could see more significant snow into Scotland

0:02:12 > 0:02:15but we're not too concerned about it because that milder air will

0:02:15 > 0:02:20follow in behind so if you get some snow it should thaw pretty quickly

0:02:20 > 0:02:23as the milder southerly winds take over.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26Sunday it looks likely we will see a spell of snow into central

0:02:26 > 0:02:27and northern Scotland.

0:02:27 > 0:02:31Cloudier conditions behind but certainly milder with that

0:02:31 > 0:02:32southerly wind.

0:02:32 > 0:02:37In fact we'll see double digits for many, maybe up as high as 13.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Not for long though, keep an eye on that area of

0:02:40 > 0:02:42low pressure into Scotland.

0:02:42 > 0:02:47It will revert back, move its way across the country and the winds

0:02:47 > 0:02:50revert back to a north-westerly so again a colder source.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53Not the extreme cold we had last week

0:02:53 > 0:02:56but potentially a colder source of weather.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59As that low pressure moves through we could see some

0:02:59 > 0:03:01snow into the north.

0:03:01 > 0:03:06It turns pretty unsettled from the Atlantic with milder air

0:03:06 > 0:03:08and a low pressure moving in from the south.

0:03:08 > 0:03:13The question is will we see any snow where it bumps into that colder air.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17It is a bit messy, the weather for the week ahead, but the longer

0:03:17 > 0:03:21term looks likely to stay unsettled, some spells of wind and rain.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24We need to keep a close eye on the leading edge

0:03:24 > 0:03:27up into Scotland of whether we will see some snow.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29More details from us later in the week.
