0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello. In the depths of last week's cold spell you may have

0:00:05 > 0:00:08struggled to imagine temperatures would ever climb above freezing,

0:00:08 > 0:00:11let alone get into double digits

0:00:11 > 0:00:15but that is exactly what is going to happen as we head into the weekend.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18It's going to turn increasingly mild.

0:00:18 > 0:00:19There will be some rain at times

0:00:19 > 0:00:23and the snow is not completely done with us yet.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25This weather system running across southern

0:00:25 > 0:00:28and central areas through the first part of Thursday is likely to

0:00:28 > 0:00:31provide some snow for the hills of Wales, the north Midlands,

0:00:31 > 0:00:34northern England, but maybe even to lower levels for a time.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36It will be largely rain elsewhere

0:00:36 > 0:00:39and in any case it will have cleared to the east by lunch time.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42So the afternoon, largely dry with spells of sunshine.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44Just a scattering of showers drifting in from the west

0:00:44 > 0:00:47and those temperatures already in double digits in the south.

0:00:47 > 0:00:4910 degrees there in London.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52As we look ahead to Friday we'll see a lot of dry weather.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Spells of sunshine after any early mist patches have cleared.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58Still showers across Scotland, wintry over high ground.

0:00:58 > 0:01:01And then we look to the south, this rain pushing across the

0:01:01 > 0:01:04Channel Islands into the far south-west by the

0:01:04 > 0:01:06end of Friday afternoon.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09That will be a big feature of our weather for the start

0:01:09 > 0:01:12of the weekend. This frontal system pushing northwards during Friday

0:01:12 > 0:01:14night into Saturday, taking rain with it.

0:01:14 > 0:01:18Low pressure taking up residence down here to the south-west

0:01:18 > 0:01:20but the position of this low is crucial

0:01:20 > 0:01:25because it will start to drag up some pretty mild air from the south.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Many of us seeing a notable lift in temperatures

0:01:27 > 0:01:30but with that we'll see these outbreaks of rain splashing

0:01:30 > 0:01:33northwards across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, southern Scotland.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34Some of the rain could be heavy.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38Perhaps turning to snow over higher ground in the north for a time.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40But look at these afternoon highs.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43Down towards the south 12, 13, maybe 14.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47A long time since we've seen temperatures that high.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Into Sunday this band of wet weather will be sliding

0:01:49 > 0:01:51northwards across Scotland.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54Even here most of it rain by this stage as that mild air

0:01:54 > 0:01:56continues to progress northwards.

0:01:56 > 0:02:00Further south pretty murky, a lot of cloud, some mist and fog around.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03Some rain perhaps into the south-east and many places

0:02:03 > 0:02:06into double digits, even further north we're looking at highs of 8

0:02:06 > 0:02:08in Edinburgh.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10Low pressure still the dominant feature as we move

0:02:10 > 0:02:13out of Sunday into the start of the new working week.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16A lot of uncertainty about where these individual weather

0:02:16 > 0:02:18systems will be at this stage.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20There will be some spells of rain at times.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22Quite a lot of cloud I suspect

0:02:22 > 0:02:26but some brighter glimpses coming through here and there

0:02:26 > 0:02:29and those temperatures not quite as high as over the weekend in

0:02:29 > 0:02:34the south but 11-12, 7 there across northern and eastern Scotland.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37What's going on? It's all down to the jet stream.

0:02:37 > 0:02:42During next week it will remain largely to the south of the UK but

0:02:42 > 0:02:46notice this little dip that develops towards the end of the week.

0:02:46 > 0:02:50That could spin up a fairly deep area of low pressure,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52giving the potential for some fairly windy weather.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54Certainly the potential for some wet weather.

0:02:54 > 0:02:59And as that low drifts its way further east that could open

0:02:59 > 0:03:02the floodgates to some slightly colder air

0:03:02 > 0:03:04returning from the north by the end of the week.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07It won't be anything like as cold as it was last week

0:03:07 > 0:03:11but a different feel after those double digits over the weekend.

0:03:11 > 0:03:16So next week, rain at times, equally some sunny spells too.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18It will at times be windy.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21Just the chance that it could turn colder later

0:03:21 > 0:03:25but nothing like as cold as it was last week and before we get

0:03:25 > 0:03:29there we will get to see some pretty high temperatures.
