0:00:02 > 0:00:04Hello. Thanks very much for joining me.
0:00:04 > 0:00:06I'm sure you know how this show works by now -
0:00:06 > 0:00:09we give you some detail about the next five days
0:00:09 > 0:00:12and then we'll take a look at some of the themes that we expect to see
0:00:12 > 0:00:14in the forthcoming week. In the short term,
0:00:14 > 0:00:17our weather very much dominated by this area of low pressure,
0:00:17 > 0:00:21the attendant front gave a wet spell of weather for Northern Ireland
0:00:21 > 0:00:22and the southwest of England.
0:00:22 > 0:00:24As we get towards lunchtime on Thursday,
0:00:24 > 0:00:26that same weather front will have
0:00:26 > 0:00:28moved up into the Borders
0:00:28 > 0:00:29of Scotland, eastern England,
0:00:29 > 0:00:31brighter skies following behind,
0:00:31 > 0:00:33but quite a raft of showers,
0:00:33 > 0:00:35and some of those quite heavy,
0:00:35 > 0:00:36maybe a rumble of thunder,
0:00:36 > 0:00:39but temperatures not that disappointing
0:00:39 > 0:00:41if you're away from the weather front.
0:00:41 > 0:00:44If you get sunshine in the southwest, 11, 12 or 13,
0:00:44 > 0:00:46underneath the front, 6, 7 or 8 degrees.
0:00:46 > 0:00:48Not a great deal changes on Friday,
0:00:48 > 0:00:50except we're pushing that front
0:00:50 > 0:00:51further north,
0:00:51 > 0:00:53and as it runs into colder air
0:00:53 > 0:00:54across the hills,
0:00:54 > 0:00:56particularly of northern Britain,
0:00:56 > 0:00:58I think we'll see a conversion
0:00:58 > 0:00:59of some of that rain into snowfall,
0:00:59 > 0:01:02but it will be a high-ground feature.
0:01:02 > 0:01:04Further south, there's sunshine to be had,
0:01:04 > 0:01:06still some spring warmth at this stage,
0:01:06 > 0:01:08but some hefty showers.
0:01:08 > 0:01:10Catch one of those, you'll know all about it.
0:01:10 > 0:01:12Moving towards the weekend,
0:01:12 > 0:01:15and there's a none-too-subtle change
0:01:15 > 0:01:19in our weather, because the low pressure will have drifted away
0:01:19 > 0:01:22towards the Atlantic, and it'll be the big Scandinavian high
0:01:22 > 0:01:24that will be providing a very noticeable
0:01:24 > 0:01:26and noticeably cold wind
0:01:26 > 0:01:29across all parts of the British Isles,
0:01:29 > 0:01:30and there is a chance in that flow
0:01:30 > 0:01:32at this stage
0:01:32 > 0:01:34of seeing some wintry showers,
0:01:34 > 0:01:36especially but not exclusively
0:01:36 > 0:01:37across eastern parts.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40Look at the difference in the temperatures.
0:01:40 > 0:01:42You're well down into single figures
0:01:42 > 0:01:45and we keep the same sort of feel to the day
0:01:45 > 0:01:48as we move from Saturday on into Sunday,
0:01:48 > 0:01:52thanks to that high pressure being very much the dominant feature
0:01:52 > 0:01:55at this stage, and there'll be some strength in that flow
0:01:55 > 0:01:58around the high pressure all the way from Siberia and Scandinavia
0:01:58 > 0:02:01right across the whole of the British Isles,
0:02:01 > 0:02:04but it's exposed eastern and southern areas that will see
0:02:04 > 0:02:06the bulk of the snowfall,
0:02:06 > 0:02:09and there is a chance there could be significant snowfall in the south.
0:02:09 > 0:02:12We've shown it here more towards the Channel. It could come
0:02:12 > 0:02:15a little further north. Remember, we are some way into the future here
0:02:15 > 0:02:17on Sunday. Look at those temperatures.
0:02:17 > 0:02:181 to 6 degrees
0:02:18 > 0:02:20just about covering it.
0:02:20 > 0:02:22So, this is how we start the new week,
0:02:22 > 0:02:24the high pressure just beginning to
0:02:24 > 0:02:25drift from Scandinavia
0:02:25 > 0:02:27out towards the northern parts
0:02:27 > 0:02:28of the British Isles,
0:02:28 > 0:02:29and therefore, we've got our own
0:02:29 > 0:02:31circulation, and we're not relying
0:02:31 > 0:02:32on a feed from a cold Siberia
0:02:32 > 0:02:34or indeed Scandinavia,
0:02:34 > 0:02:37so whilst there's going to be
0:02:37 > 0:02:40some delay in the rebound in the temperatures,
0:02:40 > 0:02:42first signs of recovery
0:02:42 > 0:02:43already on Monday.
0:02:43 > 0:02:45OK, it's relative,
0:02:45 > 0:02:47it's 4, 5, 6 degrees or so,
0:02:47 > 0:02:49and that's because, slowly but surely,
0:02:49 > 0:02:51we're going to be entraining
0:02:51 > 0:02:54somewhat milder airs from the Atlantic
0:02:54 > 0:02:56and they will come to dominate the British Isles,
0:02:56 > 0:02:58elbowing aside the cold snap
0:02:58 > 0:02:59that many of us will have endured
0:02:59 > 0:03:01during the course of the weekend.
0:03:01 > 0:03:04As we get on into the forthcoming week,
0:03:04 > 0:03:07we will very much be looking towards the Atlantic,
0:03:07 > 0:03:10here is our old friend the jet stream,
0:03:10 > 0:03:14underneath this jet stream, which is well up in the atmosphere,
0:03:14 > 0:03:17we will see a succession of low pressures,
0:03:17 > 0:03:19so, yes, it turns less cold, certainly,
0:03:19 > 0:03:23but whilst that area of jet stream is firing the low pressures
0:03:23 > 0:03:24at us, it will stay unsettled
0:03:24 > 0:03:28and it will often be wet and windy. Bye-bye.
