0:00:02 > 0:00:06Hello. Our weather fortunes are about to take a significant dip.
0:00:06 > 0:00:10Forget about spring, we are heading for a shot of winter,
0:00:10 > 0:00:11make no mistake about that.
0:00:11 > 0:00:15Across central and southern parts of the British Isles,
0:00:15 > 0:00:16we've enjoyed a burst of spring.
0:00:16 > 0:00:20That comes very much to an end as we get on into Saturday.
0:00:20 > 0:00:25The reason for the change is that an area of low pressure which has
0:00:25 > 0:00:28fed in relatively mild air from the south-east
0:00:28 > 0:00:29has been elbowed aside.
0:00:29 > 0:00:31It's all about an area of high pressure,
0:00:31 > 0:00:34feeding in this bitter easterly wind
0:00:34 > 0:00:36to all parts of the British Isles as we start the weekend.
0:00:36 > 0:00:40Continuous snow for a time across southern England and Wales.
0:00:40 > 0:00:42Further north, wintry showers abound,
0:00:42 > 0:00:46particularly but not exclusively on the central and eastern sides
0:00:46 > 0:00:47of the heart of England there.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50And the temperatures, when you add in the strength
0:00:50 > 0:00:54of that wind, we're talking about 50-60 miles an hour gusts,
0:00:54 > 0:00:57it's down to -7 or -8 and there are Amber warnings
0:00:57 > 0:01:00already for snow and ice from the Met Office.
0:01:00 > 0:01:05They run from about tea-time on Saturday through
0:01:05 > 0:01:09the course of the night and on into the first part of Sunday.
0:01:09 > 0:01:12That high pressure very much the dominant feature, though.
0:01:12 > 0:01:16Could well be that period of snowfall there
0:01:16 > 0:01:19across southern parts for a time on Sunday.
0:01:19 > 0:01:22As that eases away towards the west, things begin to quieten down.
0:01:22 > 0:01:24Fewer showers.
0:01:24 > 0:01:28The latter part of Sunday, what you've got to cope with
0:01:28 > 0:01:32is pretty much what has happened through Saturday and Saturday night.
0:01:32 > 0:01:34The day, though, for the absence of the showers,
0:01:34 > 0:01:37no warmer by any means at all.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40Any signs of a recovery in those temperatures? Yes.
0:01:40 > 0:01:42High pressure begins to drift away from Scandinavia
0:01:42 > 0:01:46and cuts off the coal supply of air from the northern parts,
0:01:46 > 0:01:51from Siberia, and we're beginning to pick up a maritime track.
0:01:51 > 0:01:54Still quite a breeze across the south-eastern quarter
0:01:54 > 0:01:56and from that we will still see some wintry showers,
0:01:56 > 0:01:59he North York Moors, perhaps, the Wolds of Lincolnshire.
0:01:59 > 0:02:02Elsewhere, a dry start to the week.
0:02:02 > 0:02:05But no real warmth in sight.
0:02:05 > 0:02:09Still we look, as we move into Tuesday, Wednesday,
0:02:09 > 0:02:12this area of high pressure still the dominant feature,
0:02:12 > 0:02:14still a lot of dry weather.
0:02:14 > 0:02:17Temperatures slowly beginning to recover from that
0:02:17 > 0:02:22cold snap that all of us will endure during the course of the weekend.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25Quite a bit of sunshine around, quite a bit of dry weather
0:02:25 > 0:02:26and here, by Tuesday,
0:02:26 > 0:02:29not quite double figures but not nought,
0:02:29 > 0:02:31one, two, or three degrees.
0:02:31 > 0:02:33As we move through towards the middle of the week,
0:02:33 > 0:02:37the high-pressure begins its journey slowly away down towards
0:02:37 > 0:02:40the south-western approaches.
0:02:40 > 0:02:43Tending to open up the door for at Atlantic weather systems,
0:02:43 > 0:02:46gradually they work their way through to northern
0:02:46 > 0:02:50and western parts of Scotland, maybe flirting with Northern Ireland, too.
0:02:50 > 0:02:53At least with that mild Atlantic flow,
0:02:53 > 0:02:56beginning to dominate across the British Isles, those temperatures
0:02:56 > 0:03:01in one or two spots beginning to get back towards double figures.
0:03:01 > 0:03:05That is the trend that we see as we move into the second half
0:03:05 > 0:03:09of the forthcoming week. It comes at a price.
0:03:09 > 0:03:13There is no doubt about it, as we look towards the Atlantic,
0:03:13 > 0:03:15we will introduce low-pressure systems
0:03:15 > 0:03:17for the second half of the week.
0:03:17 > 0:03:19Something akin to that, perhaps,
0:03:19 > 0:03:21with wet and windy spells of weather.
0:03:21 > 0:03:24So, slowly, things will turn less cold
0:03:24 > 0:03:28but they will turn more unsettled and very wet and windy at times.
0:03:28 > 0:03:29Goodnight.
