0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello there. So, the Beast from the East has arrived.
0:00:05 > 0:00:08As we know, it's just a minibeast. This one's not going to be as nasty.
0:00:08 > 0:00:10We have seen a significant drop in temperature
0:00:10 > 0:00:12and we have seen some snow already.
0:00:12 > 0:00:16These are just two of the many Weather Watcher pictures
0:00:16 > 0:00:17we've been sent in the past 24 hours.
0:00:17 > 0:00:19Keep sending them in on Sunday,
0:00:19 > 0:00:23because there will be more wintry scenes across the UK.
0:00:23 > 0:00:26We've still got warnings out from the Met Office - some yellow ones,
0:00:26 > 0:00:29the more significant amber ones are still in place for snow
0:00:29 > 0:00:34and ice across parts of England and Wales as we head into Sunday.
0:00:34 > 0:00:37Any milder air that we had over the past few days has been
0:00:37 > 0:00:39pushed all the way down into Africa instead.
0:00:39 > 0:00:43Our air originates from Siberia, hence that cold easterly wind
0:00:43 > 0:00:47bringing some more snow overnight and into Sunday, as well.
0:00:47 > 0:00:51The main heavier snowfall towards the south-west of England and Wales
0:00:51 > 0:00:54tending to creep away through the day. Some heavy falls over hills.
0:00:54 > 0:00:57Behind it, dry, cloudy conditions for the south-east.
0:00:57 > 0:01:00More snow showers coming in off the North Sea, mind you,
0:01:00 > 0:01:01mainly for the Humber northwards,
0:01:01 > 0:01:04and temperatures, well, struggling to make one or two degrees.
0:01:04 > 0:01:07And add on the strength of that easterly wind,
0:01:07 > 0:01:09it'll feel like minus five or minus six.
0:01:09 > 0:01:13Cold winds feeding in from the east around an area of high pressure,
0:01:13 > 0:01:16but the position of the high pressure is going to change
0:01:16 > 0:01:19over the coming few days - the centre of the high towards Scotland,
0:01:19 > 0:01:21so here the winds will be lighter.
0:01:21 > 0:01:25Very frosty, still icy conditions on Monday. Stronger winds for England
0:01:25 > 0:01:28and Wales, but not as strong, so it won't feel as cold.
0:01:28 > 0:01:31The air's a bit drier, so most places will be dry.
0:01:31 > 0:01:33And there'll be some sunshine around, as well.
0:01:33 > 0:01:37Indeed, not much falling from the sky, really, on Monday at all.
0:01:37 > 0:01:41We're losing the snow, because high pressure is building in
0:01:41 > 0:01:44and it's just calming things down.
0:01:44 > 0:01:47There's the high pressure, more across the UK on Tuesday.
0:01:47 > 0:01:49Around the edge of it we get a northerly wind.
0:01:49 > 0:01:52It's cold, but it's not as cold as an easterly wind.
0:01:52 > 0:01:55It'll be mainly affecting eastern England, that wind,
0:01:55 > 0:01:57where there'll be more cloud. You might get one or two showers,
0:01:57 > 0:01:59but on the whole again it's going to be dry,
0:01:59 > 0:02:02sunshine, temperatures creeping up to seven or eight degrees.
0:02:02 > 0:02:05Still cold, but it's better. It's a trend.
0:02:05 > 0:02:09The really mild air is more towards the Atlantic, and to get that we
0:02:09 > 0:02:12need to change the wind direction, squash away the high pressure,
0:02:12 > 0:02:16around the top of it bring in the south-westerly winds,
0:02:16 > 0:02:18and that's what we start to do on Wednesday.
0:02:18 > 0:02:20It comes, of course, with a lot more cloud,
0:02:20 > 0:02:22and we get some outbreaks of rain towards the north-west of the UK,
0:02:22 > 0:02:24nothing very much.
0:02:24 > 0:02:26Towards the south-east it's probably going to be dry.
0:02:26 > 0:02:30Ten degrees in Belfast, a significant change here.
0:02:30 > 0:02:33A little rain on that weather front there pushes away, and then we get
0:02:33 > 0:02:37a more significant weather system from the Atlantic again on Thursday.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40That's going to bring thickening cloud, outbreaks of rain.
0:02:40 > 0:02:42It could be a bit heavier, this rain, in the north-west.
0:02:42 > 0:02:45Over the hills of Western Scotland, some wet weather here,
0:02:45 > 0:02:47but again not much reaching the eastern side of England.
0:02:47 > 0:02:50It's probably going to be dry and bright. A little bit of sunshine.
0:02:50 > 0:02:52We're not going to be seeing so much frost, because the air's
0:02:52 > 0:02:56a bit milder, and temperatures widely ten or 11 degrees.
0:02:56 > 0:03:00So, let's head into the outlook, and things will change again,
0:03:00 > 0:03:02because a lot of that milder air gets pushed away.
0:03:02 > 0:03:06Instead, you can see the swirl on the wind pattern in the colder air.
0:03:06 > 0:03:08With the jet stream to the south of the UK,
0:03:08 > 0:03:10we've got an area of low pressure,
0:03:10 > 0:03:14and that means it's going to be very unsettled as we head into next
0:03:14 > 0:03:17weekend. Things slowly improving beyond then.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20But what we'll find is next weekend it's going to be quite windy.
0:03:20 > 0:03:23There may well be some gales around, we'll have some rain or showers,
0:03:23 > 0:03:25not much snow around at all.
0:03:25 > 0:03:27And then, as the low clears away, we get a north-westerly
0:03:27 > 0:03:29and it will turn a little bit cooler.
