0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hello. We've had some disruptive snowfall through the weekend.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07It has been treacherous out and about

0:00:07 > 0:00:08and a real shock to the system.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11Significant snowfall as well, 10 to 15 centimetres in part.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14This was Llandrindod Wells on Sunday morning.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16We had a lot of snow in Doncaster as well.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19This picture was sent in by our weather watcher here.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21And even in low-lying southern areas, such as Bristol,

0:00:21 > 0:00:26we had a covering of snow and indeed of course there were amber warnings

0:00:26 > 0:00:30across many parts in he south, the west and Wales during Sunday.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33Now, as we get into Monday, it's still cold to start with

0:00:33 > 0:00:36because we've still got that Siberian easterly wind

0:00:36 > 0:00:39dominating in he south but the winds are starting to ease

0:00:39 > 0:00:41in he north and we're starting to see the Atlantic mild air

0:00:41 > 0:00:44get a little closer to our shores.

0:00:44 > 0:00:48So it will start cold but largely dry this week.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50However, it will be very icy first thing

0:00:50 > 0:00:53and then we've got the milder air that will gradually lift

0:00:53 > 0:00:56the temperatures coming in as we go through towards midweek.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59So Monday still has the risk of some snow flurries in he south

0:00:59 > 0:01:02but particularly he south and West, the Channel Islands as well.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05For many, though, it's a drier day, brighter, not as cold.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07I won't say warm yet.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Four or five degrees and we've still got that wind in he south,

0:01:10 > 0:01:11so there's still a wind chill here.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14It's not so noticeable in he north because in he north,

0:01:14 > 0:01:16we're closer to this area of high pressure,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18which is keeping, or maintaining, drier conditions here.

0:01:18 > 0:01:22And that slips southward, it allows a northerly wind in for Tuesday.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25Again, a northerly wind from the Arctic isn't a particularly warm

0:01:25 > 0:01:27wind direction at this time of year.

0:01:27 > 0:01:31However, we're cutting off that bitter Siberian air.

0:01:31 > 0:01:32So it won't be as cold Tuesday.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34It will start icy and there could still be a few showers

0:01:34 > 0:01:37coming into eastern areas and one or two bits of cloud

0:01:37 > 0:01:39and drizzle into the north and west.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41But with 7 to 9, temperatures are slowly recovering.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44There will be a snowmelt as well, possibly rain midweek,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46so we'll have to keep an eye on river levels.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48But by midweek we certainly are dominated

0:01:48 > 0:01:51by this south-westerly wind across most of the country.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53That high pressure sitting across he south will maintain

0:01:53 > 0:01:55a lot of dry and settled weather here.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58There could be some murkiness around in the morning.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01But again, the rain is mostly for the Highlands and the islands

0:02:01 > 0:02:03on Wednesday, temperatures elsewhere are slowly recovering.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05We're seeing double figures.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07And we should see that again through Thursday and Friday

0:02:07 > 0:02:10because you've got this wedge now of mild Atlantic air

0:02:10 > 0:02:12from those south-westerly winds,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14our prevailing wind direction dominating.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16But of course with the prevailing wind, the south-westerly,

0:02:16 > 0:02:18often we have rain and low pressure.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20And that's what we have on Thursday.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22So for more of us there'll be rain, some heavy rain,

0:02:22 > 0:02:24some stronger winds driving it eastwards

0:02:24 > 0:02:26but again it will take much of the day to reach eastern areas.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29But by then we might have 12 or 13 degrees.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31That's still with us across southern and eastern areas

0:02:31 > 0:02:34through Thursday night into Friday, clearing out of the way

0:02:34 > 0:02:36and then we've got this huge area of low pressure

0:02:36 > 0:02:37dominating western Europe.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40So you can imagine there'll be further areas of low pressure,

0:02:40 > 0:02:41weather fronts sent our way.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44So Friday looks fairly disturbed.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46There'll be some gusty winds near the showery rain

0:02:46 > 0:02:47as it moves eastwards.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50It's difficult at this stage to put the finite detail on

0:02:50 > 0:02:52but of course we'll keep you posted through the week

0:02:52 > 0:02:54and again it's still relatively mild, 8 to 11 is around average

0:02:54 > 0:02:56for the time of year.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59As that low slips away southwards, we do allow a northerly wind

0:02:59 > 0:03:01to come in for a time, so it could be an element of winteriness

0:03:01 > 0:03:04over the hills, some frost by night.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06But most of the low pressure is then towards the second half

0:03:06 > 0:03:09of the week into the weekend and early the following week

0:03:09 > 0:03:11are driven to the north by our jet stream,

0:03:11 > 0:03:15that's the fast-moving air in the upper atmosphere that drives the low

0:03:15 > 0:03:16pressures in off the Atlantic,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18driving them towards northern areas.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21So always it looks as if southern parts will see less rain

0:03:21 > 0:03:24with high pressure around but there will be some cooler interludes

0:03:24 > 0:03:27as we move through the weekend and into the beginning of next week.

0:03:27 > 0:03:28Bye-bye for now.
