0:00:03 > 0:00:06Many of us in recent days asking the question, where has summer gone,

0:00:06 > 0:00:08not only in the UK, but also across Europe,

0:00:08 > 0:00:11where it's been particularly stormy as well.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14As we move towards the weekend, things quieten down.

0:00:14 > 0:00:16The Mediterranean looks consistent and promising,

0:00:16 > 0:00:17but in Central Europe,

0:00:17 > 0:00:20even the showers easing in intensity, potentially.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Still a few showers across the Ukraine and into parts of Hungary

0:00:23 > 0:00:26and the Balkans, but for the bulk of Central and Southern Italy,

0:00:26 > 0:00:28fine, settled and sunny.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31The same, too, for Corsica and Sardinia.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33Promising for the French Riviera

0:00:33 > 0:00:36and consistent, really, through Portugal and Spain.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39That's where the settled summer sunshine can still be found.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42Inland, we're seeing temperatures close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

0:00:42 > 0:00:46So, for many of our cities, perhaps, across the Mediterranean,

0:00:46 > 0:00:48it's a promising weekend, if that's what you're after.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51Settled summer sunshine on offer.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54Now, if we move out of Spain and Portugal, across the Pyrenees,

0:00:54 > 0:00:55into Western France,

0:00:55 > 0:00:59an improving picture here in comparison to earlier on in the week.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01We've lost the intense sharp thundery downpours.

0:01:01 > 0:01:05A few showers to the East of Paris, moving into the Low Countries

0:01:05 > 0:01:09and perhaps affecting parts of Holland as well.

0:01:09 > 0:01:13So, certainly for our cities here, a little more cloud

0:01:13 > 0:01:16and a fresher feel, but better than it has been in London and Paris.

0:01:16 > 0:01:17We pick up some sharper showers,

0:01:17 > 0:01:21particularly for Amsterdam and Brussels, from Sunday onwards.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23Now, we've seen some real stormy weather in recent days

0:01:23 > 0:01:26across the Eastern seaboard of North America,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28particularly for New York State,

0:01:28 > 0:01:31where we've had a month's worth of rain in one storm system.

0:01:31 > 0:01:36So, the weekend looks certainly an improvement. Dry, settled and sunny.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38In fact, there's not that much in the way of stormy weather

0:01:38 > 0:01:41generally across North America for the weekend.

0:01:41 > 0:01:45So, Saturday certainly the best day for many of our Eastern cities.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48A few showers into New York and Washington for Sunday.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51Further West, where LA still under drought conditions

0:01:51 > 0:01:52and, in some ways, desperate for rain,

0:01:52 > 0:01:54it still remains dry and settled.

0:01:54 > 0:01:59The rain easing in Dallas, with a few sharp showers in Houston, Texas.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02Now, certainly across Australia, things are starting to change

0:02:02 > 0:02:05after some significant weather in Western Australia.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07I'll come onto that in just a moment.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10Across the Northern Territory, it's fine, settled and sunny.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12East Coast not too bad.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15Cooler and showery down into that Southeastern corner.

0:02:15 > 0:02:19Temperatures in Canberra at 11 degrees. Better across Tasmania.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21The rain easing, but a coolish feel.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24It's been really disappointing and cold across New Zealand of late.

0:02:24 > 0:02:28We've got some rain into the far South of the South Island.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31But generally speaking, pleasant enough further North.

0:02:31 > 0:02:3311 to 14 degrees. Not as cold as it has been.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36And for Western Australia, where we saw 30 degrees,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38quite unusual for their winter period,

0:02:38 > 0:02:40temperatures starting to fall away.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43Now, for the UK, it's also an improving picture,

0:02:43 > 0:02:44so I am the bearer of good news.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47Fewer showers around and more in the way of sunshine and warmth.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49One of the reasons why it'll feel warmer

0:02:49 > 0:02:51is we've lost the strong breeze.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55Sunny spells, particularly along the coastline.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58A chance of a few isolated showers developing into the afternoon.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01But for holiday-makers across the West Country

0:03:01 > 0:03:04and for the bulk of Wales, it will be a lovely afternoon.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07Pleasant enough. Temperatures into the high teens.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10The risk of a few sharp showers close to the Welsh Borders,

0:03:10 > 0:03:13but you'll be able to get out across the coastline of Northern Ireland

0:03:13 > 0:03:16for a pleasant walk here, with lighter winds and some sunny spells.

0:03:16 > 0:03:20And despite a disappointing feel to the far North and West of Scotland,

0:03:20 > 0:03:2314 degrees, disappointing for the middle of August,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25nevertheless, a good deal of dry weather on offer.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28Potential for a few showers across the Lake District

0:03:28 > 0:03:29and through the Pennines.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31Worth bearing in mind if you're going to be hill walking.

0:03:31 > 0:03:35Some of those showers could even be still quite thundery as well.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38But down into the Southeast corner, a few showers for Essex and Kent,

0:03:38 > 0:03:40but largely fine and dry.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43All change again by Saturday, though.

0:03:43 > 0:03:45We see gales picking up into the far Northwest,

0:03:45 > 0:03:46certainly worth bearing in mind

0:03:46 > 0:03:49if you're on a sailing holiday, across Scotland,

0:03:49 > 0:03:51with plenty of sharp showers coming through.

0:03:51 > 0:03:55Similar story as we move into Sunday. It stays cool and breezy.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57Top temperatures in the South 21 degrees.

0:03:57 > 0:04:01So, all in all, it looks as though it stays a little unsettled.
