0:00:03 > 0:00:06Welcome to our regular weekly look at international holiday weather.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09Whilst here we are bracing ourselves for storm Abigail

0:00:09 > 0:00:11and later in the weekend some very wet weather,

0:00:11 > 0:00:14indeed over the weekend, some potentially exceptional wet weather,

0:00:14 > 0:00:17we do have some warmth still with us further south through

0:00:17 > 0:00:19the Mediterranean islands and into southern Europe.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22The oranges indicate temperatures just into the low 20s.

0:00:22 > 0:00:2621 in Athens, plenty of sunshine here after what has been quite

0:00:26 > 0:00:29a stormy autumn. You won't be without a few showers

0:00:29 > 0:00:31but, generally through the Mediterranean islands,

0:00:31 > 0:00:35across the Balearics and into Iberia, through Portugal, lots of fine

0:00:35 > 0:00:39and dry weather, down towards the Canaries and Madeira as well.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41So a settled weekend for many here

0:00:41 > 0:00:44and indeed across southern parts of France.

0:00:44 > 0:00:45You can see Thessalonika

0:00:45 > 0:00:47seeing temperatures into the high teens here.

0:00:47 > 0:00:51And Faro up to 20 degrees. A bit more cloud come Sunday.

0:00:51 > 0:00:55Further north, we do pick up more cloud,

0:00:55 > 0:00:57a weak weather front around across northern parts of France.

0:00:57 > 0:01:01But it is that weather front which will sit across parts of the central

0:01:01 > 0:01:03areas of the UK, north Wales, northern England

0:01:03 > 0:01:06and southern Scotland which could bring some exceptional

0:01:06 > 0:01:09amounts of rainfall and clearly a concern for flooding.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12It will affect parts of the Low Countries as well.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14London stays wet,

0:01:14 > 0:01:17potentially some rain around early on Sunday as well.

0:01:17 > 0:01:21To the south of that in Paris, some drier but still cloudy weather.

0:01:21 > 0:01:22Let's head over to the States now

0:01:22 > 0:01:26because across eastern parts of the US and indeed eastern Canada -

0:01:26 > 0:01:29some snow to come here over the next few days - it is quite chilly air

0:01:29 > 0:01:31so only eight the high in New York.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34A few showers further south across southern states,

0:01:34 > 0:01:35southern parts of Florida.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38Actually, for the weekend looking pretty unsettled

0:01:38 > 0:01:40across the Pacific Northwest as well.

0:01:40 > 0:01:41You saw that rain there in Seattle.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44It warms up a little bit with some sunshine come Sunday as high pressure

0:01:44 > 0:01:47starts to build northwards both for New York and

0:01:47 > 0:01:50for Washington, whilst further west those weather fronts still coming in.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53So for Seattle, for example, some rain around and some showers

0:01:53 > 0:01:57developing as well in LA and potentially Dallas too.

0:01:57 > 0:02:01As we head to Australia, some stormy weather has been affecting parts of

0:02:01 > 0:02:04New South Wales, parts of Queensland and up into Northern Territories.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06That continues into the weekend.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08You'd expect that at this time of year.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11Starting to develop those showers across Northern Territories

0:02:11 > 0:02:14but for Queensland and New South Wales, big storms, some severe

0:02:14 > 0:02:18storms, you can see, by the brighter colours here on the rainfall chart.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20So some significant thunderstorms around.

0:02:20 > 0:02:25In comparison, on Saturday, in New Zealand it looks fine and dry.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Temperatures still getting there. You can see the low teens.

0:02:28 > 0:02:32However, come Sunday, we have got some rain marching into New Zealand.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35Still those showers in the south and east of Australia

0:02:35 > 0:02:38but warming up in Perth. 37 the high here.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40Back home, I have talked about Abigail.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43It has been packing a punch through Thursday evening.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46Gusts of 60-70mph but potentially more in the north and west through

0:02:46 > 0:02:48the night and this little area of rain

0:02:48 > 0:02:51will be accompanied by squally winds rushing across

0:02:51 > 0:02:54the southern half of the UK first thing Friday as well.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57So, yes, we could easily see 70, 80, 90mph gusts of wind

0:02:57 > 0:02:59in northern and western areas

0:02:59 > 0:03:02where we have got that amber warning from the Met Office.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05It gets much colder behind so we will see our first

0:03:05 > 0:03:07snow of the season across the Scottish mountains.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10As I say, top gusts 80mph, potentially more.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13The impacts of course are flooding, power outages and travel disruption.

0:03:13 > 0:03:14Coastal flooding, that is.

0:03:14 > 0:03:18We start Friday with some nasty weather across many parts

0:03:18 > 0:03:19but gusty winds of 60-70mph

0:03:19 > 0:03:22potentially in western parts of England and Wales

0:03:22 > 0:03:25and even 60 further east as that rain clears away.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28Then snow could penetrate those showers across Cumbria,

0:03:28 > 0:03:29into the Pennines as well.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31It may well say 7-12 on the thermometer.

0:03:31 > 0:03:33That is lower than it has been for some time

0:03:33 > 0:03:35but it will feel much colder.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38Now, back to Saturday and what I talked about earlier was

0:03:38 > 0:03:40the potential for an awful lot of rain.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43This tropical air in amongst this next area of low pressure

0:03:43 > 0:03:46through Saturday and Sunday, meandering across central areas.

0:03:46 > 0:03:50Southern Scotland, north-west England, north Wales, we think,

0:03:50 > 0:03:53could see as much as 100-150 millimetres of rain in places.

0:03:53 > 0:03:57That will cause significant impact and potentially flooding.

0:03:57 > 0:03:59Clearly, that is an exceptional amount of rain

0:03:59 > 0:04:01so please do stay tuned to the forecasts.
