0:00:02 > 0:00:03Hello, the UK's weather

0:00:03 > 0:00:05is turning much colder for the weekend,

0:00:05 > 0:00:08but that cold plunge is going to be felt

0:00:08 > 0:00:10across a large part of Europe as well.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12You can see the isobars lined up to the north

0:00:12 > 0:00:13and again, that colder air

0:00:13 > 0:00:15starting to filter its way southwards

0:00:15 > 0:00:17with bands of wet weather

0:00:17 > 0:00:19and some snow in places too.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21That snow at higher elevations

0:00:21 > 0:00:22into the Balkans and the Alps,

0:00:22 > 0:00:24but at lower levels, the risk,

0:00:24 > 0:00:25especially into the Balkans,

0:00:25 > 0:00:27see the bright colours during Saturday,

0:00:27 > 0:00:28some very heavy rain as well,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31so a particularly disturbed picture once again

0:00:31 > 0:00:33through central parts of the Mediterranean,

0:00:33 > 0:00:34What you're not seeing here -

0:00:34 > 0:00:36some very strong winds in places

0:00:36 > 0:00:38and rough seas once again.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40Still going into the start of the weekend,

0:00:40 > 0:00:42some fairly warm air across southern parts of Spain,

0:00:42 > 0:00:45but temperatures here are going to come down as well

0:00:45 > 0:00:47as that cold air begins to move southwards.

0:00:47 > 0:00:48So you can see there's going to be

0:00:48 > 0:00:50a general drop in temperature.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52Now, we move our way northwards

0:00:52 > 0:00:53and certainly into France,

0:00:53 > 0:00:56much of northern Europe, and that cold air

0:00:56 > 0:00:57is in place for the weekend

0:00:57 > 0:00:59and again, what you can't see

0:00:59 > 0:01:01is quite a strong northerly wind as well,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03so windchill is going to be a factor as well

0:01:03 > 0:01:05and some of us, not necessarily

0:01:05 > 0:01:07just into higher elevations,

0:01:07 > 0:01:08are going to be seeing

0:01:08 > 0:01:10some snow falling out of this,

0:01:10 > 0:01:12so it is going to feel very different indeed

0:01:12 > 0:01:14and that cold air hanging on

0:01:14 > 0:01:16as we look into the picture for Sunday as well.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18So single-figure temperatures

0:01:18 > 0:01:20and, remember, feeling colder in the wind.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22Quite a strong wind too with this weather system

0:01:22 > 0:01:24pushing through central parts

0:01:24 > 0:01:25of Canada and the USA,

0:01:25 > 0:01:27as we look at the picture for Saturday.

0:01:27 > 0:01:28To the east of that,

0:01:28 > 0:01:30a weather front has moved through,

0:01:30 > 0:01:32but it's still hanging around close to Florida,

0:01:32 > 0:01:34so if you have got travel plans here,

0:01:34 > 0:01:36there could be some further severe thunderstorms

0:01:36 > 0:01:37and intense downpours

0:01:37 > 0:01:39as we go through the weekend.

0:01:39 > 0:01:41The risk of showers getting to New York on Sunday

0:01:41 > 0:01:44but there will also be a fair amount of sunshine too,

0:01:44 > 0:01:45but you can see in Miami,

0:01:45 > 0:01:47that risk of thundery downpours

0:01:47 > 0:01:50certainly continues throughout the weekend.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53Look further west, though, and there is a lot of dry weather to be found

0:01:53 > 0:01:55and a fair amount of sunshine too.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58But a chill in Seattle at 7 degrees.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00Nowhere near a chill for Australia,

0:02:00 > 0:02:02because here, there is some intense heat

0:02:02 > 0:02:05across parts of the south and south-east,

0:02:05 > 0:02:06but a weather system coming in

0:02:06 > 0:02:08is going to change that.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10Darwin, a risk of showers

0:02:10 > 0:02:11at 35 Celsius for Saturday.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13Some spots in the south and south-east

0:02:13 > 0:02:15getting close - well, above 40 Celsius,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17the hotspots near 50,

0:02:17 > 0:02:19but a significant change coming in

0:02:19 > 0:02:20with this weather front

0:02:20 > 0:02:21into the south-east,

0:02:21 > 0:02:23temperatures will come down through the weekend.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25New Zealand, well, we have got here

0:02:25 > 0:02:27a band of wet weather stuck across North Island,

0:02:27 > 0:02:29another pushing through South Island,

0:02:29 > 0:02:31so there will be some wet weather

0:02:31 > 0:02:33but some drier, sunnier moments too.

0:02:33 > 0:02:34Let's get back to the UK.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37A very wintry scene this weekend.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39A significant windchill and strong northerly winds,

0:02:39 > 0:02:42some snow around, not just on hills and a more widespread frost

0:02:42 > 0:02:46on offer overnight than we have seen recently as well.

0:02:46 > 0:02:47Let's take a look at things, then,

0:02:47 > 0:02:49as we go from Friday into Saturday.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51This is Friday's picture,

0:02:51 > 0:02:52the cold air not quite in place

0:02:52 > 0:02:53as we begin the day.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Southern England, maybe South Wales,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57starting with rain, that clears away.

0:02:57 > 0:02:58Bands of showers spreading down

0:02:58 > 0:03:00across Scotland, Northern Ireland,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02northern England, turning wintry on hills.

0:03:02 > 0:03:03That is at the colder Arctic air

0:03:03 > 0:03:05starts to move in,

0:03:05 > 0:03:06so things are going to feel quite different

0:03:06 > 0:03:08by the end of the day,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10many of us down into single figures

0:03:10 > 0:03:11and colder still

0:03:11 > 0:03:13through Friday night and into Saturday.

0:03:13 > 0:03:14This system running through Scotland

0:03:14 > 0:03:15will give some snow

0:03:15 > 0:03:17even to lower levels in places

0:03:17 > 0:03:18but significant snow

0:03:18 > 0:03:20in the Highland and Grampian regions.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22Very strong winds for North Sea coasts,

0:03:22 > 0:03:2460 to 70mph, could be disruptive.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26Then we see some snowfall,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28perhaps into even parts of south-east England

0:03:28 > 0:03:29as Saturday begins.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30Not expected to settle

0:03:30 > 0:03:32but that will be a novelty.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34Very strong winds for western coasts as well,

0:03:34 > 0:03:35with showers wintry.

0:03:35 > 0:03:36Part of Scotland, Northern Ireland,

0:03:36 > 0:03:38Wales and south-west England.

0:03:38 > 0:03:39But inland on Saturday,

0:03:39 > 0:03:40you will see a lot of dry, sunny weather

0:03:40 > 0:03:42in that crisp arctic air,

0:03:42 > 0:03:44but you factor in the wind,

0:03:44 > 0:03:46it is going to feel bitterly cold

0:03:46 > 0:03:48compared with recent weather,

0:03:48 > 0:03:49at or below freezing.

0:03:49 > 0:03:50On Sunday, still that windchill,

0:03:50 > 0:03:52still that strong northerly wind.

0:03:52 > 0:03:53Coastal showers around again,

0:03:53 > 0:03:56but inland, plenty of dry weather to come.

0:03:56 > 0:03:57And that is our latest forecast

0:03:57 > 0:03:59for the UK and elsewhere.

0:03:59 > 0:04:00Good night.
