:08:08. > :08:12.violence will end soon and that the darkness of sectarian strife will be
:08:12. > :08:16.lifted. Let's go back to our top story. We
:08:16. > :08:21.are expecting in the next few hours the release of 26 Palestinian
:08:21. > :08:26.prisoners from a prison in Israel. This is the scene live now, where
:08:26. > :08:30.preparations are being made. We can speak to Mustafa Barghouti, a member
:08:30. > :08:33.of the Palestinian Legislative Council and leader of the
:08:33. > :08:37.Palestinian National Initiative. He joins us from Ramallah. Thank you
:08:37. > :08:42.very much for your time. We are talking about the release of 26
:08:42. > :08:46.prisoners out of 104. Compared to what was happening in the 1990s, the
:08:46. > :08:49.figures are small. But in your opinion s this the right step
:08:49. > :08:53.towards starting up those peace towards starting up those peace
:08:53. > :08:59.talks? It's a very small step and it relates to a very sensitive issue.
:08:59. > :09:03.Of course, 26 families will be happy today but 4,800 other families will
:09:03. > :09:07.not be happy because their children and their brothers and fathers are
:09:07. > :09:11.still in jail and some have been there for more than 25 years. So, it
:09:11. > :09:16.is a very, very little step in comparison to what should happen.
:09:16. > :09:20.Let me remind you that these 26 people, out of the 104 that will be
:09:20. > :09:23.released, should have been released 20 years ago when the Oslo agreement
:09:23. > :09:28.was signed and they were left in prison and they have lost 20 years
:09:28. > :09:32.of their life. What about the Israeli families who are very
:09:32. > :09:37.unhappy, they see these people as criminals, as murders, in some
:09:37. > :09:42.cases? They speak about people who fell in a fight. But you can also
:09:42. > :09:47.call so many Israeli generals and soldiers as even worse criminals
:09:47. > :09:52.because the number of people killed by their hands is even bigger than
:09:52. > :09:55.this number. But that's not the issue. The issue is if you want to
:09:55. > :09:59.make peace, you have to close down that chapter and that means the
:09:59. > :10:03.release of the prisoners but also the release of 4,800 prisoners and
:10:03. > :10:09.also not to arrest more people. The problem is, that they would release
:10:09. > :10:14.26 but the total number of people arrested in this month alone is more
:10:14. > :10:19.than 100. The other problems, of course, are the continuation of
:10:19. > :10:22.settlement expansion which is undermining the very possibility of
:10:22. > :10:26.reaching an agreement. We want to see peace and we want the
:10:26. > :10:29.negotiations that lead to an end of the conflict and not interim and
:10:29. > :10:36.small deals that lead only to partial agreement. But, are you
:10:36. > :10:40.willing to overlook those settlements and the comments now
:10:40. > :10:45.that the tenders have been issued for further settlement buildings?
:10:45. > :10:49.Are you willing to overlook that in the hope of finding peace? How could
:10:49. > :10:55.we? Peace and settlements don't meet. The whole world, including
:10:55. > :10:59.Europe and the United States, is saying that settlements Rhyl legal
:10:59. > :11:03.and contradictive to international law. -- really illegal. Everybody
:11:03. > :11:07.knows that with each expansion of settlement, the possibility of a
:11:07. > :11:12.Palestinian state is being killed and that's the whole option of
:11:12. > :11:16.two-state solution, going to be awe is as nated by the growth of these
:11:16. > :11:20.settlements. -- assassinated. It is either peace of settlements.
:11:20. > :11:23.You cannot combine both. That's why it was a mistake n my opinion, to
:11:23. > :11:27.start negotiations on this fragile base, without first guaranteeing
:11:27. > :11:32.that Israel will immediately stop and suspend all settlement
:11:32. > :11:34.activities. If this Israeli government continues to build
:11:34. > :11:38.settlements, they will be undermining the very peace process
:11:38. > :11:40.that everybody was hoping for. I hope the United States and the
:11:40. > :11:44.international community will immediately exercise pressure on
:11:44. > :11:50.Israel to stop settlement expansion, if they want to save the peace
:11:50. > :11:54.process. Otherwise we will see a repetition of what happened in Ywe
:11:54. > :11:59.River and Camp David and a repetition of what happened in the
:12:00. > :12:03.negotiations of Oslo, another peace process that fails because of the
:12:03. > :12:07.Israeli expansionist policy. What about getting Hamas back to the
:12:07. > :12:12.negotiating table? Ultimately their charter is the destruction of
:12:12. > :12:18.Israel. With those kind of beliefs, it's very difficult to see how they

:12:45. > :12:50.Unfortunately, many countries, including the United States, are
:12:50. > :12:53.opposing the possibility of unity between Palestinians. I think unity
:12:53. > :12:57.will help the progress towards peace and not the opposite. There is
:12:57. > :13:00.already an agreement, which was signed in Cairo more than two years
:13:00. > :13:05.ago, which says that Palestinians accept two-state solution. All of
:13:05. > :13:12.them, including Hamas. The issue here is how to have a unified
:13:12. > :13:15.Palestinian camp that uses democracy as an organiser of its internal

:13:19. > :13:24.think this would be conducive to peace. But unfortunately, some

:22:15. > :22:22.adopted. Often that is an important start. But it is... I suppose the
:22:22. > :22:28.vetting process four people in Boldon adoption, we would expect to
:22:28. > :22:32.have through a social worker. So adopters are prepared for all
:22:32. > :22:39.possible things that might happen along the way, before they are
:22:39. > :22:46.linked up with particular children. We saw with the two Brads, the twice
:22:46. > :22:53.had a child... The mother changed their mind. It shows how difficult
:22:53. > :22:58.the decision is. In the UK, four people who had children and mothers
:22:58. > :23:05.placing children for adoption, they cannot give consent to that adoption
:23:05. > :23:09.until six weeks after the child is born. That is a difficult time, a
:23:09. > :23:13.lot of emotions. People need to think about the long-term
:23:13. > :23:20.implications as well as the short-term ones. Thank you very much
:23:20. > :23:24.for coming in to share that. It is prom season here in the UK -
:23:24. > :23:28.the summer classical music festival at London's Royal Albert Hall. This
:23:28. > :23:34.year the world-famous violinist Nigel Kennedy has returned with
:23:34. > :23:40.Vivaldi's Four Seasons, and he is accompanied by a user artist from
:23:40. > :23:42.the Palestinian territories. Wissam Sayegh of BBC Arabic met the
:23:42. > :23:49.musicians and Nigel at one of their rehearsals.
:23:49. > :23:59.This masterpiece is known to millions around the world. But here
:23:59. > :24:00.
:24:00. > :24:10.it has been given very different musical dialogue between East and
:24:10. > :24:16.
:24:16. > :24:21.perspective on Western classical music, at the same time as still
:24:21. > :24:26.having contact with the roots from music of their forefathers which is
:24:26. > :24:31.so wonderful to hear. I am giving space for some of the kids to play
:24:31. > :24:41.their own music as well as the classical format, to show what is a

:24:51. > :24:58.call -- you to call Saul these musical -- classical music festival
:24:58. > :25:06.in the world. The aim is to give a platform to these news issues from
:25:06. > :25:08.the Palestinian territories. This is the first time the Palestinian
:25:08. > :25:13.string orchestra will perform live in front of an audience the size,
:25:13. > :25:19.not to mention the millions watching at home and online. To participate
:25:19. > :25:26.in the Proms is an amazing experience. It gives even Palestine
:25:26. > :25:35.a boost. We are showing people that we are not like what they think we
:25:35. > :25:38.are. It is an opportunity for us to perform in front of people. It
:25:38. > :25:45.builds a connection between us and it helps them to see what is
:25:45. > :25:52.happening in Palestine and what the music is that we play. This
:25:52. > :25:59.orchestra was formed two years ago. We are bringing something very
:25:59. > :26:00.positive up from Palestine. We are seeing this as Palestine, these are
:26:01. > :26:09.young Palestinians. We have something wonderful to share with
:26:09. > :26:19.you. Nigel Kennedy's unique ambition is opening up new doors for these
:26:19. > :26:27.
:26:27. > :26:34.musicians and breathing fresh life Great stuff. A reminder of our main
:26:34. > :26:38.story: Israel is set to release 26 Palestinian prisoners in the coming
:26:38. > :26:48.hours ahead of direct peace talks. Tomorrow we will continue to monitor
:26:48. > :27:04.
:27:04. > :27:09.that and all of the day's news. From of us again tonight will get a
:27:09. > :27:14.chance to catch clips of those shooting stars. An eastern parts of
:27:14. > :27:19.the UK there will be some clear spells. The clouds are increasing

:27:32. > :27:36.the course of the night and tomorrow that is how it will be as well. The
:27:37. > :27:42.East will have the best of the weather. In some areas up to 25
:27:42. > :27:47.degrees. The further west you go, the further south west you go, you
:27:47. > :27:53.get under that cloud, drips and drafts of rain, some mist around the
