:00:09. > :00:18.US Republican in-fighting reaches a new level as former US

:00:19. > :00:20.presidential candidate Mitt Romney takes aim at fellow

:00:21. > :00:27.Donald Trump is a phoney, a fraud - his promises are as worthless

:00:28. > :00:36.As thousands of people are stranded in Greece,

:00:37. > :00:38.would-be migrants are warned, "Do not come to Europe."

:00:39. > :00:41.Could this be a piece of missing Malaysian airliner MH370?

:00:42. > :00:47.Debris washed up in Mozambique is sent to Australia for analysis.

:00:48. > :01:00.Coming up, Kenny's plan to get laptop computers to children in

:01:01. > :01:11.primary. -- Kenya. We hear what children think about their

:01:12. > :01:13.classrooms going digital. Hello and welcome.

:01:14. > :01:15.The Republican establishment has launched a dramatic last-ditch

:01:16. > :01:17.effort to stop Donald Trump from becoming the party's

:01:18. > :01:23.The man who ran for the Republicans four years ago, Mitt Romney,

:01:24. > :01:28.Within the last couple of hours, he's gone on TV to describe

:01:29. > :01:32.Donald Trump as a con man, a fake and a misogynist,

:01:33. > :01:37.who would bring economic recession to the US

:01:38. > :01:44.and threaten national and global security.

:01:45. > :01:51.We waiting for live reaction from Donald Trump but first let's listen

:01:52. > :01:54.to Mitt Romney as he appealed to Republican voters to vote tactically

:01:55. > :01:56.to keep Donald Trump out. His promises are as worthless

:01:57. > :02:00.as a degree from Trump University. He's playing the members

:02:01. > :02:11.of the American public for suckers - he gets a free ride

:02:12. > :02:14.to the White House, and all we get His domestic policies

:02:15. > :02:22.would lead to recession. His foreign policies would make

:02:23. > :02:28.America and the world less safe. He has neither the temperament nor

:02:29. > :02:31.the judgment to be President, and his personal qualities

:02:32. > :02:47.would mean that America would cease I am convinced America has greatness

:02:48. > :02:54.ahead and this is a time for choosing. God bless us to choose a

:02:55. > :02:56.nominee who will make that a reality.

:02:57. > :02:58.Barbara Plett-Usher was following the speech and joins

:02:59. > :03:12.Can the Republican party stop Trump? That is a good question and critics

:03:13. > :03:16.within the party have said why has it taken so long, Trump has been

:03:17. > :03:21.doing well in the polls since September and nobody has really

:03:22. > :03:27.taken him on either at the debates or within the party and even when

:03:28. > :03:30.his campaign got more extreme, the call for banning Muslims, there was

:03:31. > :03:36.pushed back against that but nobody took it on as a project to try to

:03:37. > :03:41.move against him. Now that he has shown himself to be a very serious

:03:42. > :03:44.contender after a raft of elections in various states on Tuesday he has

:03:45. > :03:49.real momentum behind him and he could pretty much keep that

:03:50. > :03:54.trajectory if he wins more elections in a couple of crucial contest this

:03:55. > :03:58.month. Now the Republican establishment is finally saying, we

:03:59. > :04:01.really have to do something, so you have this intervention by Mitt

:04:02. > :04:10.Romney, I think the most high level so far, but others are speaking like

:04:11. > :04:15.John McCain, business leaders getting together to put millions

:04:16. > :04:22.into a political action to put out attack ads against Mr Trump. The

:04:23. > :04:28.plan is to stop him getting enough votes to out rate get the nomination

:04:29. > :04:39.before the national convention in July. -- out right. If he doesn't

:04:40. > :04:48.get that there are ways to manipulate the outcome. It could be

:04:49. > :04:53.quite damaging to the Republican party and make people who voted for

:04:54. > :04:58.him furious and he is right in that he is bringing in new voters to the

:04:59. > :05:04.Republican party. It is deeply divided over this and this is one of

:05:05. > :05:07.the reasons why there has not been a push back until now. Mitt Romney

:05:08. > :05:17.went through every aspect he could think of, his Moore business, his

:05:18. > :05:21.personality, his foreign policy. He used the words phoney, fraud,

:05:22. > :05:25.greedy, dishonest, misogynistic, I am not sure how much further he

:05:26. > :05:29.could go, it was a character assassination really. In terms of

:05:30. > :05:35.the policies themselves he said economic and domestic policy would

:05:36. > :05:43.lead to recession, partly because Mr Trump wants to reduce the 35% tariff

:05:44. > :05:47.on goods coming into the country, his tax policies, he said, would

:05:48. > :05:52.also have a bad effect. He said foreign policy would damage America,

:05:53. > :06:01.make America and the world less safe. There are more than 70

:06:02. > :06:08.Republican national security wonks who said the same, that Mr Trump's

:06:09. > :06:13.statements on banning Muslims from the US, his statements on torture,

:06:14. > :06:17.immigration and trade, these were alienating America's allies and

:06:18. > :06:23.would damage the country, so they have gone after him in a big way

:06:24. > :06:28.today. Thank you very much indeed. We are keeping an eye on the podium

:06:29. > :06:30.where Donald Trump is expected to start speaking and we will go to it

:06:31. > :06:32.as soon as he begins. Don't come to Europe -

:06:33. > :06:34.don't risk your lives That's the blunt message

:06:35. > :06:37.for would-be economic migrants from the President of

:06:38. > :06:39.the European Council, His words come as more than 25,000

:06:40. > :06:51.migrants are left stranded in Greece by a tightening

:06:52. > :07:04.of border controls. His words come as more than 25,000

:07:05. > :07:07.migrants are left stranded in Greece by a tightening

:07:08. > :07:09.of border controls. The restrictions were imposed

:07:10. > :07:11.after several Balkan countries decided only to allow Syrian

:07:12. > :07:17.and Iraqi migrants across. The restrictions bar passage to

:07:18. > :07:21.thousands of people trying to get to Western Europe, including Afghans

:07:22. > :07:24.and others likely to be regarded as economic migrants.

:07:25. > :07:27.At the border camp where Greece meets Macedonia, a growing number

:07:28. > :07:33.They want to move on but can't, so today they protested.

:07:34. > :07:35.Ever since the tear-gassing incident here on Monday,

:07:36. > :07:38.it's been fairly quiet when it comes to protest but today they've flared

:07:39. > :07:43.with the migrants blocking the main railway track and calling

:07:44. > :07:48.for a greater flow of people across the border.

:07:49. > :07:51.This could go one of two ways - either it breaks up peacefully,

:07:52. > :07:53.or the police will move in and shift them.

:07:54. > :08:01.Common toilets, everything here is disgusting.

:08:02. > :08:04.Here, I don't feel like a human being here any more.

:08:05. > :08:08.Most here are Syrians and Iraqis, who say they are

:08:09. > :08:14.But these mainly Moroccan men I met at a service station are described

:08:15. > :08:21.who were told today not to waste their time and money trying

:08:22. > :08:28.This 26-year-old wanted to remain anonymous.

:08:29. > :08:31.TRANSLATION: I say for the people that would like to come here, stop.

:08:32. > :08:37.Don't lose your money, your job, your family, your time.

:08:38. > :08:45.Back at the border, the demonstration ended peacefully

:08:46. > :08:48.but the primitive living conditions here are taking their toll.

:08:49. > :08:50.Children especially are falling sick, about 40% of people

:08:51. > :08:57.This Syrian family have a nine-year-old who is diabetic

:08:58. > :08:59.and six-month-old twins, who they have been told should not

:09:00. > :09:05.A trickle of people crossing to move up the migrant trail is just

:09:06. > :09:09.But this crush developed when we were at the border

:09:10. > :09:15.gate this afternoon, with children caught up in it.

:09:16. > :09:19.Everyone wants to cross, so everyone just pushes in,

:09:20. > :09:26.Discouraging economic migrants is one thing but nearly all of these

:09:27. > :09:29.people don't fall into that category - they are Europe's problem

:09:30. > :09:39.and current plans to deal with them just aren't working.

:09:40. > :09:48.We will just take you now to America, the Republican candidate

:09:49. > :09:53.Donald Trump is due to be appearing here at this press conference in

:09:54. > :09:58.Portland in Maine, you can see all of the banners and he is just coming

:09:59. > :10:04.to the podium. Let's listen in to his response. We have just heard

:10:05. > :10:14.from Nick Romney, who issued a damning attack. Thank you so much,

:10:15. > :10:24.what a turnout. What a turnout. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:10:25. > :10:28.I love tough people and he is a tough cookie and when we got his

:10:29. > :10:33.endorsement we were thrilled, he is a great guy. You know, I was doing a

:10:34. > :11:02.bit of a thing called the debate. Get him out, please. Get him out.

:11:03. > :11:10.What are they doing, right? What is the purpose? He gets a little

:11:11. > :11:14.television time, I guess. I was going to the debate, going directly

:11:15. > :11:19.in from Florida, we are campaigning in Florida, doing really well,

:11:20. > :11:24.campaigning against a guy who has the worst voting record in the

:11:25. > :11:31.history of the state of Florida, named Rubio. I call him a

:11:32. > :11:36.lightweight. The worst record in the history of Florida, so I should do

:11:37. > :11:42.well there, let's hope I do well there. I was going to Detroit and I

:11:43. > :11:51.said to my people, I have to stop in Maine. I just have to stop in Maine.

:11:52. > :11:56.I would not say it is a very direct route, instead of this way, I went

:11:57. > :12:04.this way and that way, and I am so glad. To put this incredible sold

:12:05. > :12:13.out crowd, to put this together in a period of, what, 24 hours? And this

:12:14. > :12:19.place, Maine, is one of the most beautiful places. People don't

:12:20. > :12:25.realise how large the land mass is, as large as New England. That is

:12:26. > :12:31.some piece of land, can I buy some? Can I buy some? So, you know, I have

:12:32. > :12:37.been watching with great interest as we go down the line, we have had

:12:38. > :12:41.some amazing results. New Hampshire was an amazing, incredible thing,

:12:42. > :12:43.and every time we went to New Hampshire, when I met with people,

:12:44. > :13:06.they were always said the number one problem, heroine. It comes from our

:13:07. > :13:10.southern border and we are going to build the rural and stop the drugs

:13:11. > :13:15.coming in. People are going to come into our country but they are going

:13:16. > :13:21.to come in legally. We going to solve the problem. I watch these

:13:22. > :13:26.pundits and when I first started, my wife and I came down the escalator,

:13:27. > :13:30.and it was an amazing thing. I said, we have to do something because we

:13:31. > :13:34.have people who don't know what they are doing in running our country,

:13:35. > :13:37.and I got some of that today, hearing some of these things. They

:13:38. > :13:44.don't know what they are doing. It takes guts to run them president. I

:13:45. > :13:49.am not a politician, all talk, no action, nothing gets done. I am

:13:50. > :13:54.coming down and I said to myself, there are so many things, and I

:13:55. > :14:00.watch the pundits and they say, Trump, we have some great talent

:14:01. > :14:06.running and I am trying to figure out, where, what is the talent? You

:14:07. > :14:11.come down and you start talking about trade and you see what happens

:14:12. > :14:16.with trade. Trade has been such a disaster. The pundits all said I

:14:17. > :14:22.came out at 3%. My wife said, if you run you will win, but you have to

:14:23. > :14:28.run. They won't call it, people say you won't run even if you do call

:14:29. > :14:36.it. My wife is my pollster, I pay her less but she is better than...

:14:37. > :14:39.You know what happened, I started at three, the first day something,

:14:40. > :14:48.which I wasn't thrilled about. Then it went up to six, 12, 18, it kept

:14:49. > :14:54.going up, and each time the pundits said, he has plateaued. He is always

:14:55. > :15:02.going to get six, then I went up to 12, that is a solid group, then I

:15:03. > :15:06.went up to 24. Don't forget we had 17 people, 24 with 17 people is

:15:07. > :15:13.pretty good. We went up to 24 and they said, that is the maximum. We

:15:14. > :15:22.went up to 28, 30 two. CNN just came out with a pull, Trump, 49. That is

:15:23. > :15:27.high. And I am very proud of it because this is not a plateau, this

:15:28. > :15:31.is a movement. We have a movement going, folks. Time magazine did a

:15:32. > :15:37.story a couple of weeks ago talking about what is going on and they have

:15:38. > :15:41.never seen anything like it. They say actually, and I don't think I am

:15:42. > :15:46.exaggerating this at all, but many of the great writers, of which there

:15:47. > :15:50.are many few, because the media is some of the most dishonest people I

:15:51. > :15:54.have ever known, but they said in the history of this country there

:15:55. > :15:58.has never been anything like this, what is happening. We were in

:15:59. > :16:05.Huntsville Alabama the other day, 35,000 people. We went to Arkansas,

:16:06. > :16:11.which you so we want. Is that another one? Get him out.

:16:12. > :16:26.They just don't stop. All right, get him out, thank you. Bye-bye.

:16:27. > :16:32.Terrible. Incredible. Now, you know, you can be nice, but if you are nice

:16:33. > :16:37.they will say, you were so soft. You can be vicious, get out of the! Then

:16:38. > :16:44.they say you are too harsh. So I say, all right, please get him out.

:16:45. > :16:53.It is incredible. I love you, too. I love you. And, by the way, you know,

:16:54. > :16:59.I am self funding my campaign, I am putting up all of my money. I don't

:17:00. > :17:04.want your money, I just want your vote on Saturday, get out there.

:17:05. > :17:15.Don't forget, I did that league long term, slightly long, a big turn, so

:17:16. > :17:23.you can get out to vote, OK? So... Thank you, thank you very much. So

:17:24. > :17:29.our country and our theme is make America great again, and over the

:17:30. > :17:33.last little while I have met so many people, thousands and thousands and

:17:34. > :17:38.thousands of people. We are only confined by the size of the room, it

:17:39. > :17:42.is packed but this is the size of the room. Thousands and thousands of

:17:43. > :17:47.great, great Americans and I have more confidence in this country than

:17:48. > :17:52.I have ever had before. I have seen millions of people, really, because

:17:53. > :17:58.when you get 40,000, 45,000 people for rallies, and I have the biggest

:17:59. > :18:06.rallies, Bernie is second but it is a distant second, but we have by far

:18:07. > :18:09.the biggest and by far the most people and this country have

:18:10. > :18:16.unbelievable people that love our country, just remember that. And I

:18:17. > :18:21.want to see the day in the not too distant future when Apple makes

:18:22. > :18:34.their iPhones in this country and not in China and all of these other

:18:35. > :18:42.places. I heard that Mitt Romney made a fairly long speech and I will

:18:43. > :18:52.just address it quickly. Look, Mitt Romney is I failed candidate, he

:18:53. > :19:00.failed. He failed horribly. He... He failed badly. That was a race,

:19:01. > :19:04.folks, that should have been -- being one. I don't know what

:19:05. > :19:14.happened to him, he disappeared, and I wasn't happy because I am not a

:19:15. > :19:24.fan of Barack Obama. -- not have been won. I backed Mitt Romney, he

:19:25. > :19:31.was begging for my endorsement. He was begging. He was begging me. He

:19:32. > :19:36.was saying, I am not great like him, he is the big businessman and all of

:19:37. > :19:44.that stuff, and now I am even better. Mitt Romney was thinking

:19:45. > :19:50.about running again, he ran a horrible campaign, you are running

:19:51. > :19:57.against a failed president, he came up with 47%, he demeaned 47% of the

:19:58. > :20:02.people in our country, the famous 47%. Once that was said, a lot of

:20:03. > :20:06.people thought it was over for him. In the last month and a half he

:20:07. > :20:13.disappeared. I called his people, I said, you have to do yourself a

:20:14. > :20:19.favour. Obama was on Jay Leno, he was all over the place, Mitt Romney

:20:20. > :20:23.was looking for zoning for a nine car garaged or something in

:20:24. > :20:30.California. I said, what is he doing, he is running for president!

:20:31. > :20:34.If the press goes back they will see, when I heard he was running

:20:35. > :20:43.again, and I wasn't sure I would be running, but I was very, very strong

:20:44. > :20:48.to Mitt Romney and everybody, and publicly, because he let us down. He

:20:49. > :20:56.let us down. It is one thing if you lose and you work and you work, he

:20:57. > :21:02.let us down. He was horrible in the third debate, something happened.

:21:03. > :21:09.Maybe someday they will write a book, his campaign guy was terrible,

:21:10. > :21:15.he had a terrible campaign manager, Stuart Stevens or something, he is

:21:16. > :21:20.always on TV knocking everybody. The guy ran one of the worst campaigns

:21:21. > :21:24.in the history of modern politics. Mitt Romney's campaign was probably

:21:25. > :21:29.one of the worst run the people have seen because most people thought the

:21:30. > :21:33.Republican candidate would win. When Mitt Romney started raising his head

:21:34. > :21:41.a few months ago, I was very strong, I said Mitt Romney should not run. I

:21:42. > :21:48.said it very strongly. Then Jeb Bush actually convinced Mitt Romney not

:21:49. > :21:54.to run. Can you imagine? Jeb Bush sold him. Now he is out I can say he

:21:55. > :21:58.is a good salesman, a high-energy salesman. But Mitt Romney was afraid

:21:59. > :22:03.of Jeb Bush because he was afraid that Jeb Bush would get the money,

:22:04. > :22:08.get the whatever... I wasn't afraid of Jeb Bush, I can tell you. Jeb

:22:09. > :22:13.Bush convinced Mitt Romney not to run, Mitt Romney was going to run,

:22:14. > :22:16.it was going to be a third attempt, the second being one of the great

:22:17. > :22:21.catastrophes, the first one just didn't happen, which is OK, but the

:22:22. > :22:26.second was a catastrophe. He went to see Jeb Bush and convinced him he

:22:27. > :22:30.was going to run, he had the money. The real reason he chickened out

:22:31. > :22:37.wasn't Jeb Bush, it was me. Because I said he was a joke. Mitt Romney

:22:38. > :22:41.was all set to run, and I think he still probably has a desire to get

:22:42. > :22:46.something, maybe in the convention. Hillary Clinton will destroy him in

:22:47. > :22:51.the convention, assuming she is allowed to run, assuming she is not

:22:52. > :23:00.arrested for the males. Which is so terrible. -- arrested for the

:23:01. > :23:05.e-mails. Let's assume that the Democrats are going to protect her,

:23:06. > :23:11.let's assume that I will be running against Hillary, and I would love to

:23:12. > :23:15.run against her. We have numerous polls that show me beating her

:23:16. > :23:21.easily, and I haven't even started on her yet, other than four weeks

:23:22. > :23:26.ago. She called me sexist and I hit her with her husband and I was the

:23:27. > :23:34.last time I ever heard the word sexist. They had a rough weekend,

:23:35. > :23:39.Bill was not happy. I guarantee he said, don't you ever say that to him

:23:40. > :23:45.again, say it to somebody else but not Trump. That was a rough weekend.

:23:46. > :23:50.Mitt Romney was going to run, as sure as I am standing in front of

:23:51. > :23:57.you, and I was very angry that he was going to run. I didn't even know

:23:58. > :24:04.I would be doing this. NBC came to me, they wanted to extend The

:24:05. > :24:09.Apprentice, Steve Burke came up to my office with the people from NBC,

:24:10. > :24:17.we would like you not to run, we would like you to do The Apprentice,

:24:18. > :24:21.the ratings were still fantastic, and I said, Steve, I think I am

:24:22. > :24:29.going to run for president. No, no, you are not! I think I am.

:24:30. > :24:37.Ultimately I decided to run, and by law you are not allowed to do both.

:24:38. > :24:45.They chose Arnold instead, who would be better, Arnold or Trump? Arnold?

:24:46. > :24:49.Trump? We will find out if Arnold is quick because if he isn't we will
