:00:07. > :00:08.This is BBC World News Today with me, Ben Brown,

:00:09. > :00:17.Belgian prosecutors say they've identified two of the three suicide

:00:18. > :00:21.bombers who carried out Tuesday's attacks in Brussels.

:00:22. > :00:25.Two of them are said to be brothers - both Belgian nationals -

:00:26. > :00:35.police are still hunting a third man seen in these airport images.

:00:36. > :00:37.The names and nationalities of victims are starting to emerge.

:00:38. > :00:43.The first fatality to be confirmed - a Peruvian woman -

:00:44. > :00:51.In other news: Senator Ted Cruz is endorsed by Jeb Bush,

:00:52. > :00:54.in a last-ditch attempt to try to stop Donald Trump getting

:00:55. > :00:56.the Republican nomination in the US presidential election.

:00:57. > :00:59.And changing the look of the British countryside forever -

:01:00. > :01:20.fears that the Ash tree is just years away from extinction.

:01:21. > :01:23.The people of Belgium are observing three days of national mourning

:01:24. > :01:25.as the investigation into Tuesday's attacks

:01:26. > :01:36.Two of the suspected suicide bombers have been named by Belgian

:01:37. > :01:42.shown here on the left - targeted the Maelbeek metro station

:01:43. > :01:43.while Brahim el-Bakraoui struck at the airport.

:01:44. > :02:01.Meanwhile a massive manhunt is still underway for a key suspect

:02:02. > :02:12.And we crossed live to Brussels to Ben Brown. We are at Place de la

:02:13. > :02:15.Bourse. This is where people have been paying the respect of the dead

:02:16. > :02:22.and holding the Belgian flag and laying flowers and we had one

:02:23. > :02:25.minute's silence earlier. We had also chanting slogans and symbols of

:02:26. > :02:29.the finds from the Belgian people who say that life has to go on and

:02:30. > :02:34.on their words the terrorists cannot be allowed to win. A similar

:02:35. > :02:46.reaction perhaps to what we saw in Paris after the Charlie Heddle

:02:47. > :02:50.attacks. --Hebdo. There were three explosions and there were CCTV

:02:51. > :02:56.images of three suspects going into the airport before the explosions

:02:57. > :03:00.there. One of those men pictured in the CCTV image is still on the run

:03:01. > :03:06.according to the Belgian federal prosecutor and as I wanted man. They

:03:07. > :03:09.have named two of the bombers who died in the attack. They have been

:03:10. > :03:18.named as brothers, Khalid and Brahim el-Bakraoui. 31 people, it is now

:03:19. > :03:21.known, died though that death toll could rise because of the very

:03:22. > :03:24.serious nature of some of the injuries to victims who are being

:03:25. > :03:31.treated in hospitals around Brussels today. 260 injured altogether, that

:03:32. > :03:36.is the latest we're giving. The other main development of the last

:03:37. > :03:44.three hours is at midday local time here in Belgium that was a minute's

:03:45. > :03:46.silence observed here in Place de la Bourse and around the city of

:03:47. > :03:50.Brussels as people remember the dead and after the minute's salads there

:03:51. > :03:56.was a spontaneous round of applause to show that life does go on. We are

:03:57. > :04:04.beginning to get the names of some of those who died in the attacks.

:04:05. > :04:07.The first to be confirmed dead was a Peruvian woman aged 37 and the

:04:08. > :04:22.mother of young when girls, Adelma Tapia Ruiz. -- when. --Twin. As you

:04:23. > :04:25.here behind me and other spontaneous round of applause with people

:04:26. > :04:27.affirming the right to live in freedom and without fear here in the

:04:28. > :04:35.Belgian capital. But first, here's Katya Adler

:04:36. > :04:39.on the day's events. Silence spoke far louder

:04:40. > :04:59.than words in Brussels today. In sadness for the victims

:05:00. > :05:04.of yesterday's bombings. In fear that there

:05:05. > :05:16.will be a next time. And that next time,

:05:17. > :05:23.it could be them. But there is a strong sense

:05:24. > :05:32.here of defiance, too. Long live Belgium,

:05:33. > :05:36.these people shouted. And on a massive manhunt

:05:37. > :05:44.for all those linked to this, yesterday's devastating

:05:45. > :05:48.bombing at Brussels Airport Police say they are

:05:49. > :05:57.looking for this man. There is confusion about his

:05:58. > :06:09.identity, but it is believed he could have raised

:06:10. > :06:11.the casualty count even higher. TRANSLATION: The third suspect,

:06:12. > :06:13.wearing a light-coloured coat and hat is on the run,

:06:14. > :06:16.he left a large bag and departed His bag contained the biggest

:06:17. > :06:19.explosive device. Shortly after the arrival

:06:20. > :06:21.of the bomb disposal unit, the bag was detonated

:06:22. > :06:23.because of the volatility The other two men in this photo

:06:24. > :06:36.were suicide bombers. In the middle, you see Brahim

:06:37. > :06:38.el-Bakraoui, a Belgian national. Police have found a note

:06:39. > :06:41.in which he writes that he is under pressure and on the run

:06:42. > :06:43.to avoid arrest. Belgian media said he had recently

:06:44. > :06:46.been linked to the Paris This is his brother Khalid,

:06:47. > :06:53.the metro suicide bomber. Today, Belgium's Prime Minister

:06:54. > :07:02.accompanied the country's king and queen to visit some

:07:03. > :07:08.of the 260 injured yesterday. Julian Firkin was one

:07:09. > :07:10.of the lucky ones. He and his girlfriend emerged

:07:11. > :07:15.unscathed, physically at least. The second explosion happened,

:07:16. > :07:18.and at that point I jumped on top of her and grabbed her suitcase

:07:19. > :07:23.and kind of held that over the top of both of us just to protect

:07:24. > :07:27.us from the ceiling, The commotion died down a little

:07:28. > :07:34.bit, but there was lots of screaming and people running around,

:07:35. > :07:41.and then the airport staff came running and screaming and shouting

:07:42. > :07:43.at everyone to get out of the building, evacuate, evacuate,

:07:44. > :07:48.as quickly as you can. This city is still digesting

:07:49. > :07:52.the full horror of yesterday's attacks, but on the surface

:07:53. > :07:55.at least, there is a sense of life It is not that commuters here have

:07:56. > :08:03.forgotten about the attacks one day on, or that they don't care

:08:04. > :08:06.they are unaware of the warnings But this is a gritty,

:08:07. > :08:10.down-to-earth city. The attitude here it is,

:08:11. > :08:15.life has to go on. People are grateful

:08:16. > :08:20.for the extra security. Maybe it is not in Brussels,

:08:21. > :08:31.maybe it is another country. TRANSLATION: There is a risk,

:08:32. > :08:37.but keeping our jobs mean taking trains, and at least

:08:38. > :08:41.there are more police here now. More police, more soldiers,

:08:42. > :08:45.more security checks at train Most people here tell

:08:46. > :09:09.you they refuse to be scared, I want to give you a sense of the

:09:10. > :09:12.atmosphere as you rejoin as live in Place de la Bourse because it is

:09:13. > :09:16.absolutely packed with people who are singing songs and have been

:09:17. > :09:17.chanting slogans. They had a minute's silence earlier on which

:09:18. > :09:25.was very sombre, minute's silence earlier on which

:09:26. > :09:29.of young people here. You're just trying to show that they will

:09:30. > :09:34.defeated by terrorism, just as the people of Paris showed that in

:09:35. > :09:52.November. I'm joined by a couple of the people here.

:09:53. > :09:54.November. I'm joined by a couple of flowers. Just for peace and love. To

:09:55. > :10:00.show solidarity and spread some light and love in these dark and

:10:01. > :10:02.dreadful times. What happened here yesterday was a terrible event.

:10:03. > :10:08.dreadful times. What happened here has done to the of Brussels, do you

:10:09. > :10:14.think? I think it has shocked a lot of people but it is most important

:10:15. > :10:25.to simply rise and not let it crush her spirits. So you're trying to

:10:26. > :10:29.raise everybody's spirits but are you nervous that could be more

:10:30. > :10:36.attacks like the one yesterday? I do not think the next moment now. Not

:10:37. > :10:43.even Brussels. Maybe another place. -- not here in Brussels. Do you

:10:44. > :10:50.think it is important as a message against the terrorists that you hand

:10:51. > :11:05.out flowers? Yes, simply to spread a positive vibe. That is all that

:11:06. > :11:09.matters. Thank you very much. Spreading a message of light and

:11:10. > :11:15.love. During the day some of the names of the victims of the attacks

:11:16. > :11:18.yesterday began to edge and the arm from many different nationalities.

:11:19. > :11:22.The Foreign Ministry has been seeing as many of the mag as 40 different

:11:23. > :11:28.nationalities among the dead and injured and the first to be named

:11:29. > :11:32.today was a 37-year-old Peruvian woman by the name of Adelma Tapia

:11:33. > :11:41.Ruiz was tragically the mother of four-year-old twin girls. She died

:11:42. > :11:42.in the airport explosions. Lucy Williamson has been following the

:11:43. > :11:46.stories of some of the victims. Among the questions left

:11:47. > :11:48.by Tuesday's attacks is this one. What happened to British IT

:11:49. > :11:50.contractor David Dixon? After two days searching

:11:51. > :11:52.the hospitals here, his partner David left for work

:11:53. > :11:59.yesterday as usual. Maelbeek station was not

:12:00. > :12:04.far from his office. After the explosion there at 9am,

:12:05. > :12:07.Charlotte tried to reach him. 270 people from dozens of countries

:12:08. > :12:26.are now known to have been injured Inside this hospital,

:12:27. > :12:37.two British survivors lie While their relatives wait for news,

:12:38. > :12:44.in a separate part of the hospital, other families of other victims

:12:45. > :12:46.begin the grim process Among the first deaths to be

:12:47. > :12:52.confirmed was 20-year-old Leopold A law student at Saint Louis

:12:53. > :12:58.University here in Brussels. And Peruvian Adelma Tapia Ruiz

:12:59. > :13:03.who died during the airport attack. Her four-year-old twin girls

:13:04. > :13:06.survived the blast because they ran Her brother described it

:13:07. > :13:13.as incomprehensible. TRANSLATION: She had twins called

:13:14. > :13:16.Maureen and Elondra. They were in the

:13:17. > :13:19.Brussels airport too. They were connecting

:13:20. > :13:21.through to New York to meet She also planned to come

:13:22. > :13:27.back to Peru this year, Tonight in Brussels there

:13:28. > :13:35.is solidarity in Europe's anger But terrorism's toughest

:13:36. > :13:40.challenge is private. For some, these were not just

:13:41. > :13:45.attacks on their home or values but on the people

:13:46. > :14:00.they love the most. There has been a lot of criticism of

:14:01. > :14:04.the Belgian security agencies both in the aftermath of the Paris

:14:05. > :14:08.attacks and now in the aftermath of the Brussels attacks as well. A lot

:14:09. > :14:15.of claims they could have done more. We have had today claims from the

:14:16. > :14:17.Turkish president that Turkey gave warning to the Belgian authorities

:14:18. > :14:29.about one of the suicide bombers involved yesterday,

:14:30. > :14:42.Brahim el-Bakraoui who blew himself up at the airport. The president

:14:43. > :14:49.made these claims in a press conference and said that Brahim

:14:50. > :14:53.el-Bakraoui had been detained in the south of the country near the Syrian

:14:54. > :14:58.border in June of last year. He had then been deported to the

:14:59. > :15:02.Netherlands and was briefly heard in Belgium before being freed. The

:15:03. > :15:11.president said both the Dutch and Belgian authorities had been warned

:15:12. > :15:14.by Turkey but he said that Belgium had ignored that warning and he said

:15:15. > :15:18.that despite warnings that this person was a foreign terrorist

:15:19. > :15:24.fighter Belgium could not establish any links with terrorism. Belgian

:15:25. > :15:30.prosecutors have confirmed the two brothers, Khalid and Brahim

:15:31. > :15:35.el-Bakraoui did have a criminal record for armed robbery but they

:15:36. > :15:39.say that there was nothing unrelated to terrorism and Belgian authorities

:15:40. > :15:44.have not confirmed or denied and have not commented on these claims

:15:45. > :15:48.by the President of Turkey. Turkey is of course itself a country in a

:15:49. > :15:52.high state of alert at the moment after four suicide bombings in its

:15:53. > :16:00.two cities this year alone. The most recent was five days ago in Istanbul

:16:01. > :16:03.in which four people were killed. Turkish authorities have said they

:16:04. > :16:09.have detained three people on suspicion of planning a further

:16:10. > :16:12.attack in Istanbul and those arrests are based on information from both

:16:13. > :16:25.Turkish and German intelligence, they say. Thank you, Daniel. A

:16:26. > :16:29.sombre mood this evening in the heart of Brussels where you can see

:16:30. > :16:37.all the candles that have been let in memory of the 31 people who died

:16:38. > :16:43.here yesterday both in those exposed yesterday at International Airport

:16:44. > :16:47.and on the Metro at Maelbeek station. I warning from the health

:16:48. > :16:51.ministry in Belgium today that they expect this death toll to rise in

:16:52. > :16:55.the coming days because many of the tune and 60 people injured in the

:16:56. > :17:00.biggest blasts are critically well and fighting for their lives and may

:17:01. > :17:04.not survive. The injured are being treated in a number of hospitals.

:17:05. > :17:10.The overwhelming message I think for people here today -- from people

:17:11. > :17:16.here today who have paid their respects is not just one of morning

:17:17. > :17:21.but also defiance as the people of Paris after the attacks there should

:17:22. > :17:24.defiance, people in Brussels want to show defiance and they have been

:17:25. > :17:31.singing songs today and cheering and chanting slogans against Islamic

:17:32. > :17:34.State as well and the King of Belgium has said that the people

:17:35. > :17:39.here in Belgium must respond to what he called audience attacks with 40

:17:40. > :17:42.sheep, calm and dignity and I think discourtesy that he and the centre

:17:43. > :17:58.of Brussels today that is exactly what they have been doing.

:17:59. > :18:00.And of course there's more analysis and reporting on the attacks

:18:01. > :18:09.in Brussels on our website - bbc dot come forward slash news.

:18:10. > :18:13.And you can also get everything on your mobile using the BBC

:18:14. > :18:19.And all the latest developments will be on our Twitter account,

:18:20. > :18:20.The Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo has indicated

:18:21. > :18:26.that her government will not take in its share of migrants under an EU

:18:27. > :18:27.plan - because of the Brussels attacks.

:18:28. > :18:32.the Belgian Embassy in Warsaw she said that the government now had

:18:33. > :18:34.to look after the security of its citizens and could not take

:18:35. > :18:37.on any immigrants under the present circumstances.

:18:38. > :18:39.Her Conservative government had earlier agreed to welcome around

:18:40. > :18:41.7,000 refugees over the next three years.

:18:42. > :18:43.However, the EU's Commissioner for Migration said the union's

:18:44. > :18:46.member states should be taking a very different message away

:18:47. > :18:55.it is not a message it is a question. Do they really believe

:18:56. > :18:59.that by following this line they will be successful and fighting

:19:00. > :19:08.terrorism? The occurrences and the answer. -- give the answer. There is

:19:09. > :19:12.only one road to follow witches cooperate more and exchange

:19:13. > :19:20.information and develop more trust between us. Among member states.

:19:21. > :19:23.The Presidents of the United States and Argentina have said they're

:19:24. > :19:25.optimistic they can open a new chapter in relations

:19:26. > :19:28.They have promised more co-operation on trade,

:19:29. > :19:30.fighting the Zika virus and combating climate change.

:19:31. > :19:33.Barack Obama's visit is the first official trip by a US head of state

:19:34. > :19:47.That is a principal message that I have not only for Argentina but for

:19:48. > :19:55.the entire hemisphere. I have a slick came Cuba and we have put a

:19:56. > :20:00.great emphasis on making sure that some of the ideologies and disputes

:20:01. > :20:04.of the past are frankly acknowledged that there be also able to look to

:20:05. > :20:13.the future and not just behind us. Another day, another twist

:20:14. > :20:15.in the thoroughly unpredictable twist in the race to be

:20:16. > :20:19.the Republican candidate for US president - and Jeb Bush has

:20:20. > :20:21.announced he's endorsing Senator Ted Cruz -

:20:22. > :20:24.a last-ditch attempt to try and stop Donald Trump securing

:20:25. > :20:25.the nomination. Mr Bush, who's the brother of one

:20:26. > :20:28.former president and the son of another, dropped out

:20:29. > :20:30.of the race last month. He said Ted Cruz was a consistent,

:20:31. > :20:32.principled conservative who has demonstrated the ability to appeal

:20:33. > :20:35.to voters and win primary contests. That news will come as some

:20:36. > :20:37.consolation to Mr Cruz following Tuesday's

:20:38. > :20:39.presidential primary results. He lost to Donald Trump in Arizona

:20:40. > :20:42.but claimed first place in Utah. In the Democratic race,

:20:43. > :20:51.the front runner Hilary Clinton took Arizona, but lost out in two other

:20:52. > :20:59.contests to Bernie Sanders. Earlier I spoke to Anthony Zurcher

:21:00. > :21:10.our North America reporter who has Ted Cruz has been running against

:21:11. > :21:16.what it calls the Washington cartel but I do not think there is anybody

:21:17. > :21:24.who embodies the Republican party in Washington are more than shared that

:21:25. > :21:28.Bush. -- Jeb Bush. Will he add many delegates to the running total? He

:21:29. > :21:32.does not really have any delegates to speak of and they did not win a

:21:33. > :21:38.lot when he was running for president. He will not be able to

:21:39. > :21:41.shift a lot of voters towards Ted Cruz but they could direct

:21:42. > :21:45.fundraisers and the car she was able to amass and he has people in the

:21:46. > :21:49.Bush family who are very prodigious fundraisers and could help Ted Cruz

:21:50. > :21:53.and their other problem protect Cruz is not that he is lacking in money,

:21:54. > :21:57.it is that he is lacking in votes to catch Donald Trump so it may help

:21:58. > :22:03.little bit but I do not think it will be that big a deal. Is it too

:22:04. > :22:06.late for Ted Cruz or could he unite the party? He was always been quite

:22:07. > :22:11.a divisive figure in the publican party. He has been a very divisive

:22:12. > :22:17.figure and he was not really a team player when he was elected to

:22:18. > :22:23.Congress four years ago. He made a lot of waves in that he blocked the

:22:24. > :22:26.leadership within the Senate and tried to torpedo deals between the

:22:27. > :22:30.president and the congressional leadership which led to shut down of

:22:31. > :22:34.the government for a while over health care plans so if people do

:22:35. > :22:38.end up rallying behind it is only because they view Donald Champ is a

:22:39. > :22:45.much greater threat but there is a very narrow window for him, if not

:22:46. > :22:50.catch Donald Trump, keep him from getting the magic 1237 delegates. It

:22:51. > :22:56.will be an eel biter coming right down to the end. In terms of the

:22:57. > :23:01.Republican leadership, I be in full panic mode so far? I think that is a

:23:02. > :23:09.very good way to describe it. They have been hoping and wishing

:23:10. > :23:12.unbelieving that some point would see Donald Trump stumbling and he

:23:13. > :23:16.would see something and people would turn their back on him but the poll

:23:17. > :23:22.numbers showing enormous support from were enacted it, but Donald

:23:23. > :23:27.Trump has been going on a steady march towards the nomination and one

:23:28. > :23:31.will be close whether he actually gets before the convention, I do not

:23:32. > :23:32.think anybody imagined this would be the result when this all started

:23:33. > :23:37.about eight months ago. There are fears that one of the most

:23:38. > :23:40.common trees in Europe, the Ash, could be wiped out

:23:41. > :23:43.across the continent. Those fears are outlined in a study,

:23:44. > :23:46.published today in the Journal of Ecology, which says the tree

:23:47. > :23:52.faces two serious threats - one from a fungus

:23:53. > :23:57.and one from a beetle. Our environment correspondent

:23:58. > :24:01.Clare Marshall reports. This wood in Norfolk is where one

:24:02. > :24:04.of the worst fears of tree lovers Ash die-back, a devastating fungal

:24:05. > :24:07.disease, was in the wild. The leaves die first and the rest

:24:08. > :24:10.of the tree follows. Today's report adds

:24:11. > :24:12.to the bleak picture. Chalara, as it is also known,

:24:13. > :24:14.will help to wipe out Ash is the second most common tree

:24:15. > :24:26.in the UK. To lose all the trees

:24:27. > :24:31.would be devastating. This wood in Somerset just waking up

:24:32. > :24:35.from winter is filled with ash trees and, like thousands of others,
