:00:00. > :00:26.This is BBC world news. As emergency workers continue to clear the

:00:27. > :00:31.rubble, from the Calcutta flight over disaster, please take action

:00:32. > :00:34.against the construction company. In new global study reveals how a

:00:35. > :00:42.dramatic rise in obesity is weighing heavy on public health. The British

:00:43. > :00:44.man who posed for a selfie with a suspected hijacker answers his

:00:45. > :01:04.critics, he says he has no regrets. We start with a political scandal

:01:05. > :01:07.which has engulfed South Africa's president. He has promised to pay

:01:08. > :01:12.back some of the public money which he spent on a series of building

:01:13. > :01:16.products at his lavish farm project which he owns. They include AMD

:01:17. > :01:21.theatre and swimming pool, estimate of two of cost $60 million. Up until

:01:22. > :01:25.now, President Zuma has refused to pay back any of the cache but after

:01:26. > :01:31.a fiercely critical ruling from South Africa's top court, President

:01:32. > :01:36.Zuma has changed his mind. He appeared on national TV and give a

:01:37. > :01:48.public apology. I respect the judgment and will abide by it. I

:01:49. > :02:01.have consistently stated that I would pay an amount towards the

:02:02. > :02:11.upgrades, once this had been determined by the correct authority,

:02:12. > :02:22.the matter has caused a lot of frustration and confusion. For which

:02:23. > :02:28.I apologise on my behalf and on behalf of of Government. Our

:02:29. > :02:35.correspondent has been following the story from Johannesburg for us. The

:02:36. > :02:41.president addressed the nation live on television in South Africa and

:02:42. > :02:46.apologised for dragging the matter longer than it should. He also said

:02:47. > :02:51.he abides by the judgment of the Constitutional Court and said he

:02:52. > :02:58.respected it, he said he always wanted to pay the money that was

:02:59. > :03:05.used for refurbishment at a private residence using some $23 million of

:03:06. > :03:10.taxpayer's money. President Zuma was clear, he said he never knowingly or

:03:11. > :03:19.deliberately set out to violate the Constitution. So with that, lives to

:03:20. > :03:26.flight fight -- fight another day. Hopes of finding more survivors of a

:03:27. > :03:30.collapsed flyover is fading in the Indian city of Calcutta. The police

:03:31. > :03:38.are opening a case of culpable homicide.

:03:39. > :03:43.The last of the rubble is being cleared, and no more bodies are

:03:44. > :03:49.expected to be found now. There are some debris being removed and it is

:03:50. > :03:54.being ensured that there are no more bodies under the debris. As for the

:03:55. > :04:00.possibility of life is concerned, that is no more in this area. I am

:04:01. > :04:04.standing right in the middle of the crossroads where this terrible

:04:05. > :04:09.tragedy happened. Just look at the scale of the structure that came

:04:10. > :04:15.crashing down. This is one of the busiest areas in India and it

:04:16. > :04:23.happened at midday, the busiest time of the day. As more twisted steel

:04:24. > :04:26.and shatter concrete is loaded onto the trucks, there was growing anger

:04:27. > :04:34.here in Calcutta. What people want to know is why what should have been

:04:35. > :04:38.a fairly straightforward construction ended in such a

:04:39. > :04:47.disaster. It is dangerous, everybody got feared, not everybody is ready

:04:48. > :04:56.to see the area from nine, the work was going on. We don't know when it

:04:57. > :05:02.will complete. It has become a huge political issue, not just here but

:05:03. > :05:04.in India as well. People are asking why a construction company

:05:05. > :05:09.blacklisted by other Indian states was still in charge. Was the

:05:10. > :05:12.long-delayed project being rushed under pressure from local

:05:13. > :05:20.politicians? Did the company cut corners? Meanwhile, what remains of

:05:21. > :05:30.the overpass reflect the atmosphere of the city itself. Two great arms

:05:31. > :05:38.twisted and slumped as if the band into grey. -- abandoned into grey.

:05:39. > :05:44.There are now more adults classified as obese then underway, according to

:05:45. > :05:49.a new study. It looked at nearly 20 million adults from 1975 to 2014. He

:05:50. > :05:52.founded the in men has tripled and in men more than doubled and the

:05:53. > :06:02.problem is only predicted to get worse. Here is our health editor

:06:03. > :06:05.Hugh Pym. This could be one part of winning the battle of the bulge and

:06:06. > :06:10.he struggled to control weight and improve health. The writer is a

:06:11. > :06:14.personal trainer working with those who might fail inhibit it going to a

:06:15. > :06:18.gym. She had her own weight challenges and knows all about the

:06:19. > :06:24.obstacles to shedding the pounds. I'm big now, but I was much bigger.

:06:25. > :06:29.I went to a variety of classes and couldn't keep up. I injured myself,

:06:30. > :06:37.I had a poor experience. I felt uncomfortable. My classes ugly for

:06:38. > :06:43.everyone. The report the dramatic increase in global obesity. In 1975,

:06:44. > :06:51.3.2% of men Barbies, but 2014 that had more than tripled to 10.8%. 6.4%

:06:52. > :06:56.of women who were obese in 1975, nearly 15% by 2014. As for the UK,

:06:57. > :07:01.by 2025, it is to have the highest obesity levels in Europe for women

:07:02. > :07:05.and highest for Europe in men as well, level with Ireland. Exercise

:07:06. > :07:09.and personal response ability clearly have an important part to

:07:10. > :07:12.play in tackling the way issue. There is an increasing focus now on

:07:13. > :07:15.the role of food and drink companies and whether they should be doing

:07:16. > :07:21.more with what they offer to help consumers cut the calories. The

:07:22. > :07:25.Chancellor announced a sugar tax on fizzy drink in the budget and

:07:26. > :07:28.Government action to curb supermarket price promotions is

:07:29. > :07:33.expected. Some experts say that manufacturers need to be pushed in

:07:34. > :07:36.the right direction. It's what I called lazy capitalism. It is the

:07:37. > :07:40.food industry doing the easiest thing to try and make money. The

:07:41. > :07:42.industry needs to be made to work harder, we need regulation, policies

:07:43. > :07:46.and programmes that level the playing field. But some out enjoying

:07:47. > :07:52.the sunshine today said it was really down to all of us. It is very

:07:53. > :08:00.difficult, but people have to make a change themselves. You can't always

:08:01. > :08:08.blame the Government. If you got eating crisps, it is difficult to

:08:09. > :08:12.get out of the circle. While many are trying to control the way, there

:08:13. > :08:19.was more heavy -- heavy lifting needed. South Korea has said North

:08:20. > :08:26.Korea has fired another ballistic coast into the sea, just hours after

:08:27. > :08:29.US President and China's president were agreeing to cooperate against

:08:30. > :08:34.any North Korean nuclear threat. At a nuclear security Summit attended

:08:35. > :08:40.by world leaders in Washington. Earlier we spoke to North Korea's

:08:41. > :08:55.ambassador to London. It is very serious. It is under nuclear war.

:08:56. > :09:01.So, you know, as he said, I think the state of war is correct. Any

:09:02. > :09:05.time the war can break up him of that is why he categorized it as

:09:06. > :09:14.that. I think actually it is very delicate. But the problem here,

:09:15. > :09:22.United States is trying to turn the white into black, describing as if

:09:23. > :09:29.the countermeasures is a provocation, is a threat. We are not

:09:30. > :09:35.making a provocation or threat, it is not true. We are making a

:09:36. > :09:42.countermeasure to cope with the dangerous nuclear war by the United

:09:43. > :09:47.States. The British man who posed for a photo next to a plane hijacker

:09:48. > :09:52.wearing a suspected suicide belt has been explaining why he did what he

:09:53. > :09:56.did, then in this was one of the passengers and Egypt air flight that

:09:57. > :10:00.was hijacked on Wednesday. He has told the BBC he wanted to take a

:10:01. > :10:03.closer look at the belt to see if it was fake or real. He has no regrets.

:10:04. > :10:05.So the long reports. This is the image that shot

:10:06. > :10:08.Ben Innes to fame as the picture he hashtaged best selfie ever went

:10:09. > :10:14.viral on social media. Ben is on the right,

:10:15. > :10:16.beside him is Seif al-Din Mustafa, wearing what at the time

:10:17. > :10:23.was believed to be a suicide belt. Ben dozed off at the beginning

:10:24. > :10:26.of the flight and didn't believe the colleague he was travelling

:10:27. > :10:29.with when he woke and was told It hadn't seen any evidence

:10:30. > :10:48.of it happening. We hadn't been blown up,

:10:49. > :10:50.we were still going through it, so it was like, until I see

:10:51. > :10:53.something, you know, that looks like a hijacker,

:10:54. > :10:56.I am not about to sort of start The majority of those onboard had

:10:57. > :11:00.been allowed to leave by the time Six others though, were still being

:11:01. > :11:07.held hostage, prompting criticism Ben says asking for a picture

:11:08. > :11:12.was his attempt to influence I wanted to interact with this guy,

:11:13. > :11:17.I wanted him to understand I also wanted to get a closer look

:11:18. > :11:26.at this bomb, see if I could see, I have no expertise in that field,

:11:27. > :11:29.but you know, there might have been a tell-tale sign

:11:30. > :11:31.it was fake or real. I also just thought,

:11:32. > :11:34.if the worst does come to the worst, I want my family and my friends

:11:35. > :11:37.to know, you know, I died how I lived, you know, having

:11:38. > :11:40.as much fun as I can. What would you say to some security

:11:41. > :11:43.specialists who say this wasn't a sensible thing to do

:11:44. > :11:46.and you were putting other passengers who were still being held

:11:47. > :11:48.hostage on that plane at risk? I would say all these

:11:49. > :11:50.experts and specialists, I would say also to all

:11:51. > :11:55.the keyboard warriors out there who have an opinion

:11:56. > :12:00.on the matter, that was the situation I was in,

:12:01. > :12:03.and those were the actions I took, and you know, I in no

:12:04. > :12:07.way regret them. I have no blemishes on my conscience

:12:08. > :12:10.about any of the actions I took that day and, you know, I would do

:12:11. > :12:13.the same thing, exactly the same After what was a terrifying ordeal,

:12:14. > :12:22.Ben and everyone else on board the flight emerged safely,

:12:23. > :12:24.to tell the tale. He says it hasn't changed

:12:25. > :12:46.his attitude to flying Stay with us here on BBC world news,

:12:47. > :12:49.still to come... A delivery driver is found guilty of planning a terror

:12:50. > :12:59.attack against American forces in the UK. The Business Secretary Sajid

:13:00. > :13:03.Javid has told workers that the threatened Port Talbert steel plant

:13:04. > :13:06.that the industry is vital to the UK. The plant is owned by the Indian

:13:07. > :13:11.firm Tata which has announced plans to sell its lossmaking UK operations

:13:12. > :13:19.with employee nearly 15,000 people. Javed said the Government had been

:13:20. > :13:22.engaged with Tata Steel for weeks. That suggestion about tariffs

:13:23. > :13:29.couldn't be further from the truth. The reality is, the UK has been the

:13:30. > :13:34.leader in the EU in getting tariffs imposed where there is evidence of

:13:35. > :13:37.dumbing. -- dumping. Clearly, in this industry, the evidence

:13:38. > :13:41.existence as we been involved in since I have been involved, calling

:13:42. > :13:45.the first meeting of the EU Council on an emergency basis points ago, we

:13:46. > :13:51.have seen tariffs imposed them we've seen them impose much more quickly.

:13:52. > :14:00.The reality is, the UK has been the leader in getting tariffs imposed

:14:01. > :14:06.where the evidence exists. This is BBC world news today. The latest

:14:07. > :14:09.headlines. South Africa's president has apologised after a court ruled

:14:10. > :14:14.he had violated the Constitution by refusing to pay back public money

:14:15. > :14:18.spent renovating his private country residence. As emergency workers in

:14:19. > :14:22.India continued to clear rubble from the flyover collapse, police have

:14:23. > :14:31.detained several construction company officials and opened a case

:14:32. > :14:34.of culpable homicide. An Islamist extremist has been found guilty of

:14:35. > :14:39.planning an attack against American forces based in Britain. He was a

:14:40. > :14:43.delivery driver whose route took them past the Royal Air Force base

:14:44. > :14:48.and other military bases. Police said he had planned to stage a car

:14:49. > :14:49.crash and attack a soldier with a knife.

:14:50. > :14:51.The black flag of so-called Islamic State hanging on the wall

:14:52. > :14:54.behind him in his bedroom in Luton, this is Junead Khan,

:14:55. > :14:57.who was planning the first attack on US servicemen in the UK,

:14:58. > :15:00.and was being helped and advised by an IS recruiter in Syria.

:15:01. > :15:02.His intended targets, American airbases in East Anglia,

:15:03. > :15:13.His plan, to slaughter a US airman in an attack similar to the one

:15:14. > :15:16.His weapon, this knife he was trying to buy,

:15:17. > :15:24.His intention was to target a US military officer by staging

:15:25. > :15:32.He was then going to use a knife to attack that

:15:33. > :15:35.He had also researched quite extensively and got instructions

:15:36. > :15:43.As Junead Khan made his plans last summer, his friend from Luton,

:15:44. > :15:45.Abdulaziz, seen here on the left, was killed by the Americans

:15:46. > :15:51.An IS leader and planner of attacks on the West,

:15:52. > :15:58.he was in a vehicle destroyed by a drone.

:15:59. > :16:00.This seems to have increased Junead Khan's determination.

:16:01. > :16:08.When police arrested him last July, his iPhone contained key evidence

:16:09. > :16:10.of his planned attack, including an online conversation

:16:11. > :16:11.with Junaid Hussain, an infamous IS recruiter

:16:12. > :16:17.Using the encrypted social media app, Surespot,

:16:18. > :16:38.Junaid Hussain advised Junead Khan...

:16:39. > :16:42.He then sent him instructions on how to make a bomb.

:16:43. > :16:45.When Junead Khan announced his intention to target US servicemen

:16:46. > :16:48.at airbases in Britain, Junaid Hussain, in Syria,

:16:49. > :17:00.Just over a week later, Junead Khan was arrested,

:17:01. > :17:03.and six weeks after that, Junaid Hussain was killed

:17:04. > :17:05.by an American drone strike, their plot abruptly terminated.

:17:06. > :17:07.Junaid Hussain, who came from Birmingham, had been one

:17:08. > :17:09.of IS's most prolific propagandists, which is why the Americans

:17:10. > :17:17.Unlike a single fighter with an AK-47 on the

:17:18. > :17:20.He had the potential, through his cyber efforts,

:17:21. > :17:25.to reach across the sea and to motivate, radicalise

:17:26. > :17:33.and inspire violence in foreign countries around the world.

:17:34. > :17:37.With two of his IS contacts dead from American drone strikes,

:17:38. > :17:40.Junead Khan now faces a long prison sentence for his part in plotting

:17:41. > :17:42.to kill US servicemen based in Britain.

:17:43. > :17:51.Daniel Sandford, BBC News, at Kingston Crown Court.

:17:52. > :17:58.Let's get some sport for you now. Here is Lizzie, hi, Lizzie. Thank

:17:59. > :18:04.you very much. We're starting with cricket. India may not have its team

:18:05. > :18:07.in the 2020 final, but there will be 20 of eyes glued as England takes on

:18:08. > :18:12.West Indies for the trophy. Both teams are going for a second title,

:18:13. > :18:18.but they have a better head-to-head record and they've already beaten

:18:19. > :18:21.England once in this tournament. This is called kata, where any spare

:18:22. > :18:26.patch of land as an opportunity for a game of cricket. The huge flood

:18:27. > :18:30.lights behind me are for Eden Gardens, the venue for the T20

:18:31. > :18:35.final. We must remember that right now this is a city processing a

:18:36. > :18:38.tragedy. A sudden collapse of a flyover here and the loss of life

:18:39. > :18:43.has provoked understandably grief and anger. In these circumstances,

:18:44. > :18:48.the job of cricket here is often to lift the spirits. Well, India are

:18:49. > :18:55.not in the final. Last night in Mumbai, they lost to West Indies in

:18:56. > :19:01.a thrilling semifinal. It meant they chased down a huge score over 190.

:19:02. > :19:03.So the final will be between England and West Indies. You may remember

:19:04. > :19:09.right at the start of the tournament, West Indies beat England

:19:10. > :19:15.in the group stages. I think one thing we've done really well since

:19:16. > :19:19.that game is we sort of took it on the chin and every game has for the

:19:20. > :19:22.much been a funnel for us anyway, we played under pressure throughout. We

:19:23. > :19:26.kept growing as a side and a validly along the way. Guys have been

:19:27. > :19:29.gaining confidence from personal performances in other people's

:19:30. > :19:33.performances in the team and we are in a really good place now, leading

:19:34. > :19:35.up to the final. How are you keeping up-to-date with

:19:36. > :19:38.that all? I think you're flying during the

:19:39. > :19:45.match. There were about five or six of us watching it, so we got on the

:19:46. > :19:50.flight and as we landed we managed to catch the last five or six balls.

:19:51. > :19:53.Mainly down to the high that package afterwards. It looked like a

:19:54. > :19:57.fantastic game and we're really looking forward to a similar

:19:58. > :20:00.atmosphere here as well. England are going to wait for the floodlights to

:20:01. > :20:04.be turned off before the train air tonight, they are making the most of

:20:05. > :20:07.their extra day preparation. Mind you, right now they look like a

:20:08. > :20:12.group of players who know exactly what they're doing.

:20:13. > :20:20.Chelsea's Diego Costa will be serving an extra one match than

:20:21. > :20:24.following his behaviour last month. He clashed with another player and

:20:25. > :20:27.motion to bite her, although the effort in midfielder said no contact

:20:28. > :20:33.was made. Costa was originally given aid to match ban, but now will miss

:20:34. > :20:39.three games. And time for a Formula 1 update. For Sunday par rain's

:20:40. > :20:47.grump rate, the results are not exactly a surprise. Nico Rosberg and

:20:48. > :20:51.Lewis Hamilton by far the fastest. The German, Rosberg, who won last

:20:52. > :20:55.week's opening race just edged the world champion of both sessions.

:20:56. > :20:59.There was a surprise in third place, best of the rest was Jenson Button.

:21:00. > :21:02.McLaren were played last season with problems because of the Honda

:21:03. > :21:05.engines but the Briton was closest to the Mercedes today, although he

:21:06. > :21:09.was still more than one second adrift. That is all the sport.

:21:10. > :21:17.Thank you very much. Autism affects around 1% of us around the world,

:21:18. > :21:20.but although many people have heard of the condition, it appears that

:21:21. > :21:24.few of us really understand it. Here in the UK, a new film is being made

:21:25. > :21:28.that hopes to do something about that. Our disability news

:21:29. > :21:38.correspondent has been to meet its young stars.

:21:39. > :21:41.I'm not naughty. I'm autistic. This ten-year-old is in the

:21:42. > :21:46.voiceover drips adding the finishing touches to a film he stars in.

:21:47. > :21:51.Ready! The last shot is the one of you having a meltdown.

:21:52. > :21:56.It is all about understanding autism and who best to play the part? For

:21:57. > :22:05.him, the experience in this film are very real. One of the main things is

:22:06. > :22:12.able just brushing past year. I know that seems very silly and I know

:22:13. > :22:17.that seems, busy crowd, busy things, people rushed past you, but that is

:22:18. > :22:23.hard. It's hard to cope with. It's something tiny like that will affect

:22:24. > :22:28.my day for a very long time. Take my hand. During the film, there's one

:22:29. > :22:32.character that walks and gives a specific look, a mixture of contempt

:22:33. > :22:42.and discussed and it is devastating when you get it. It upsets us quite

:22:43. > :22:46.a lot, really. It is shocking that 15% of autistic people and family

:22:47. > :22:49.say they are sometimes are often unable to leave the house not

:22:50. > :22:52.because of a lack of support that because the wake the public respond

:22:53. > :22:56.to them when they are out. We want people to take time, make space and

:22:57. > :23:00.just imagine what it's like to feel overloaded and what you would need

:23:01. > :23:04.in that situation. One city with ambitions to make life

:23:05. > :23:09.easier for people like Alex and his family is Liverpool. Here, I

:23:10. > :23:11.would've its largest museums, changes have been made to improve

:23:12. > :23:16.the experiences of people with autism.

:23:17. > :23:20.If you'd like to give him a little stroke.

:23:21. > :23:23.Alex are learning all about starfish in this nice quiet space and that's

:23:24. > :23:28.what's different. Normally this area would be chaotic, but it's not. That

:23:29. > :23:33.suits many people with autism. Amazing. It's not crowded, it was

:23:34. > :23:38.extraordinary. It's taken away the bad things and left the good things.

:23:39. > :23:43.Hopefully that elaborated it for you. You have elaborated that

:23:44. > :23:48.perfectly, a lot better than most people! Good. The film will be shown

:23:49. > :23:51.in cinemas across the UK and the message is simple. The smallest of

:23:52. > :23:55.changes for someone like Alex and his family will make a world of

:23:56. > :24:02.difference. When people watch the film, I really hope that it will

:24:03. > :24:09.make people aware and make autism have a lot of respect and that's

:24:10. > :24:13.very important, as much as anything. Nicky Fox, BBC news.

:24:14. > :24:19.Some very good advice. A sick turtle who can't dive is undergoing

:24:20. > :24:23.pioneering treatment in Virginia. Normally used on humid divers

:24:24. > :24:27.suffering from decompression sickness, the aim is to allow Tucker

:24:28. > :24:33.the turtle to return to the wild. Simon Jones has the story.

:24:34. > :24:37.An unusual arrival. Tucker was found washed up on the beach Thomas he was

:24:38. > :24:42.rescued by an aquarium, but they found he's got buoyancy issues.

:24:43. > :24:46.Bubbles in his body are preventing him from diving, which he needs to

:24:47. > :24:52.do to find food and avoid predators. So they called in the experts at the

:24:53. > :24:58.Virginia medical centre, once more used to dealing with humans. It's

:24:59. > :25:01.new and exciting. We are so appreciative that they are allowing

:25:02. > :25:04.us to do this and we hope that it helps Tucker. We don't know for sure

:25:05. > :25:08.that it well, but we are giving it our best chance.

:25:09. > :25:12.So Tucker is taken to the hyperbaric chamber, normally reserved for it

:25:13. > :25:16.divers suffering from decompression sickness, where he can breathe pure

:25:17. > :25:20.oxygen. We do treat divers, about 40 divers

:25:21. > :25:23.a year, with gas bubble disease, which is some variance of what he

:25:24. > :25:28.has, they go into the chamber to compress the bubbles in their

:25:29. > :25:32.bloodstream or other places. This is not unheard of, it has been reported

:25:33. > :25:36.in Turtles something very similar to this, so we are using the protocols

:25:37. > :25:39.that we would use for divers. He will be closely monitored in the

:25:40. > :25:43.days to come to see if the treatment is working, but it is hoped that

:25:44. > :25:48.Tucker will eventually be able to take the disease again. Simon Jones,

:25:49. > :25:51.BBC News. Tucker the turtle ending our

:25:52. > :25:53.programme. That's it from me and the team. Think you very much for being

:25:54. > :26:04.with us.
