:00:00. > :00:07.This is BBC World News Today, broadcasting in the UK

:00:08. > :00:13.The headlines: Day two of Euro 2016 - in France,

:00:14. > :00:20.and day three of violence involving England fans in Marseille.

:00:21. > :00:25.Police use water cannon and tear gas, as trouble flares between rival

:00:26. > :00:28.football fans in Marseille, ahead of England's opening Euro 2016

:00:29. > :00:37.At least 12 people were killed in suicide bombing near Syria's holiest

:00:38. > :00:39.Shia shrine. This is the scene live

:00:40. > :00:43.at the fanzone in Marseilles. Police in Florida try

:00:44. > :00:45.to find a motive behind the murder of a singer -

:00:46. > :00:52.shot dead as she signed autographs. The suspects travelled to Orlando

:00:53. > :00:54.apparently to commit this crime and then had plans to travel back to

:00:55. > :00:58.where he came from. And a right royal celebration

:00:59. > :01:01.for Queen Elizabeth in London For a third day in a row,

:01:02. > :01:24.there have been violent clashes between football fans in France's

:01:25. > :01:28.second biggest city Marseille. They took place in the old port area

:01:29. > :01:32.- hours before England's opening Police used tear gas as they tried

:01:33. > :01:44.to break up fighting fans - a number of people have been

:01:45. > :01:48.arrested and several hurt. One English supporter is reported

:01:49. > :01:50.to be in a critical condition. But France's minister of sport

:01:51. > :02:08.appeared to play down Whatsapp and here is very

:02:09. > :02:13.unfortunate and damaging but it cannot overshadow the farty. --

:02:14. > :02:15.TRANSLATION: What happened here is unfortunate. National police and the

:02:16. > :02:19.police in they are looking well together.

:02:20. > :02:24.Lucy Williamson reports from Marseille.

:02:25. > :02:30.They came almost unnoticed. Handful of rival supporters looking for

:02:31. > :02:35.trouble among the English fans. It started with some chairs. A flag

:02:36. > :02:48.torn down, some unlucky targets. Tear gas spread the news of trouble

:02:49. > :02:51.to every corner of the square. Rivals turning to rioters

:02:52. > :02:53.in minutes, as people fled. They took the fight

:02:54. > :02:55.into the surrounding streets, We watched from a nearby

:02:56. > :02:58.car park is this man, thought to be an England supporter,

:02:59. > :03:01.was brutalised and left with broken The violence has been getting worse

:03:02. > :03:08.each day in the run-up All along the port area groups

:03:09. > :03:14.of England, France and Russia supporters have been clashing

:03:15. > :03:16.with each other and with the police. France has invested a lot

:03:17. > :03:20.in security around the stadium and the fan zone, but securing

:03:21. > :03:23.the city itself, with its rival groups of supporters,

:03:24. > :03:29.is proving to be the biggest Police told us there

:03:30. > :03:32.were at least five people injured in the clashes and six arrests,

:03:33. > :03:35.but the grim numbers that have graced this match won't change

:03:36. > :03:40.the score that matters on the pitch, nor lessen the risks

:03:41. > :03:46.of what might follow. Lucy Williamson, BBC News,

:03:47. > :03:52.Marseille. Let's cross to Ros

:03:53. > :04:01.Atkins is in Paris. Is the balance overshadowing the

:04:02. > :04:07.tournament so far? -- violence. I don't think so, it's important news

:04:08. > :04:10.because the violence of this type is shocking as, I should say, with the

:04:11. > :04:16.misogynistic and anti-German chance we heard from England fans. This is

:04:17. > :04:21.one part of one of the host cities, ten cities hosting games across this

:04:22. > :04:24.month of Euro 2016. As far as I'm aware of the other parts of

:04:25. > :04:27.Marseille have not had this trouble and there's been no trouble going

:04:28. > :04:33.into the stadium because it's in its second half and there is no trouble

:04:34. > :04:36.in any of the other nine cities. I am with you from the biggest fans of

:04:37. > :04:40.next rival Tara, it is a breathtaking scene as another sunny

:04:41. > :04:44.day comes to an end at the lights took -- twinkle away on the tower.

:04:45. > :04:48.There are thousands of people here supporting all manner of teams from

:04:49. > :04:53.across the six groups, I haven't even seen across word let alone a

:04:54. > :04:58.star for anything more serious and all of the exchanges with the many

:04:59. > :05:04.security personnel, all of the I've seen between fans and officials have

:05:05. > :05:08.been incredibly good-natured. Paris where you are, the target of those

:05:09. > :05:15.awful terror attacks last November. What has been the reaction from the

:05:16. > :05:20.police to this violence? The reaction of the police in Marseille

:05:21. > :05:25.is in line with how the French police tend to deal with commotions

:05:26. > :05:30.involving sporting crowds. All of the people who monitor French police

:05:31. > :05:32.behaviour said that this is relatively restrained compared with

:05:33. > :05:36.what they've done in the past, they've used tear gas as busy and

:05:37. > :05:40.riot police have been involved. If you are speaking about the border

:05:41. > :05:45.policing approach, one word would be thorough. When I came into the fans

:05:46. > :05:49.on all of our TV get was searched twice and I was patted down twice

:05:50. > :05:53.and every time I moved from one reader area into a general file area

:05:54. > :05:57.and back again a security guard carefully checked all of my

:05:58. > :06:01.accreditation details. That attention to detail goes far be

:06:02. > :06:03.anything I've seen it either international football Germans I've

:06:04. > :06:10.covered. In terms of the atmosphere, the security guards are calm. There

:06:11. > :06:15.are a lot of them, I was mentioning earlier just before the Wales game

:06:16. > :06:19.started, I went over to one gained as he was the situation was, not a

:06:20. > :06:22.single file was queueing to come in and there were 24 security

:06:23. > :06:27.personnel. We can discuss how France has approached executed per --

:06:28. > :06:28.situation but no one could accuse them of not committing enough

:06:29. > :06:31.resources. Thank you. And we'll have a full sport round up

:06:32. > :06:33.including the latest and a report on Wales' victory

:06:34. > :06:37.over Slovakia a little At least 12 people have been

:06:38. > :06:43.killed in suicide attacks on a suburb of Damascus -

:06:44. > :06:46.home to Syria's holiest Shia shrine. The so called - Islamic State group

:06:47. > :06:51.said three militants - used explosive belts and a car

:06:52. > :06:59.bomb in the attacks. In the shock and the chaos,

:07:00. > :07:05.in the smoke, in the rubble and the blood, the effort begins

:07:06. > :07:09.to save the wounded Officials say one suicide bomber

:07:10. > :07:15.was in a car packed with explosives. Another detonated

:07:16. > :07:20.a belt he was wearing. People in this suburb have been

:07:21. > :07:23.through all this before. These battered streets are not far

:07:24. > :07:28.from a religious shrine, It's of huge importance

:07:29. > :07:33.to Shia Muslim believers in Syria and far beyond,

:07:34. > :07:37.and that makes this neighbourhood a target for the Islamic State group

:07:38. > :07:43.which regards the Shia as heretics. Its bombers have struck

:07:44. > :07:45.here in the past repeatedly. And as they clear up in this place,

:07:46. > :07:48.these people know they might be hit Let's look at some of the day's

:07:49. > :08:02.other main stories. Forces aligned with the new Libyan

:08:03. > :08:04.government say they've repulsed a counter-attack by Islamic State

:08:05. > :08:09.militants in the city of Sirte. The government side captured

:08:10. > :08:10.the port overnight. According to government sources,

:08:11. > :08:15.the IS fighters are now besieged Hundreds of Hindus, Buddhists

:08:16. > :08:22.and Christians have marched through the streets of Dhaka

:08:23. > :08:25.in protest at the recent targeted killings of minorities and secular

:08:26. > :08:28.citizens in Bangladesh. The protest comes a day

:08:29. > :08:32.after a Hindu monastery worker Police say they've now made more

:08:33. > :08:36.than three thousand arrests in a nationwide hunt for the Islamic

:08:37. > :08:40.extremists who've claimed An American pop singer, who rose

:08:41. > :08:50.to fame on the US talent show - The Voice, has died

:08:51. > :08:52.after being shot at a concert Police say the man opened fire on 22

:08:53. > :08:56.year old Christina Grimmie - During a struggle with the singer's

:08:57. > :09:02.brother - he then shot himself dead. Here's Orlando's Police Chief -

:09:03. > :09:05.who gave these details The suspect in this case

:09:06. > :09:10.is not from Orlando. The suspect travelled to Orlando

:09:11. > :09:14.apparently to commit this crime and then had plans to travel back

:09:15. > :09:20.to where he came from, so what we're doing at this point,

:09:21. > :09:23.we're not identifying his name right now, but we will have that shortly

:09:24. > :09:26.for you near end of the day. What are detectives are doing right

:09:27. > :09:33.now is they are going through the suspect's cell phone

:09:34. > :09:36.and computer to see if they can find The suspects had two

:09:37. > :09:46.handguns on his person. He had two additional loaded

:09:47. > :09:48.magazines for those handguns, I've been speaking to local reporter

:09:49. > :09:52.Julie Salomone and she told me more about exactly what happened outside

:09:53. > :09:55.the music venue. She was out there signing

:09:56. > :09:57.autographs, meeting with fans. A man walks up to her, shoots her,

:09:58. > :10:01.ends up killing her, and it was her brother

:10:02. > :10:04.who ultimately attacked that suspect, took him to the ground,

:10:05. > :10:07.tackled him and that's when the suspect turned

:10:08. > :10:12.the gun on himself. What was the security like at this

:10:13. > :10:16.event that Christina Grimmie was at? Basically you walked

:10:17. > :10:19.through the door. If you had a bag they would check

:10:20. > :10:25.your bag or your purse, but there were no armed police

:10:26. > :10:29.officers, no off-duty There were security guards in polo

:10:30. > :10:34.shirts, but they were Police did point out that they've

:10:35. > :10:40.never had an issue with this venue, this concert hall in the past,

:10:41. > :10:44.which attracts young kids, It's a heavily populated area,

:10:45. > :10:53.shopping complexes around. But there were no armed police

:10:54. > :11:01.officers, no pat downs, either. Huge crowds have lined

:11:02. > :11:03.the streets of London - to mark the 90th birthday of Queen

:11:04. > :11:07.Elizabeth. After a procession along the Mall,

:11:08. > :11:09.Britain's longest-reigning monarch attended the traditional military

:11:10. > :11:12."Trooping The Colour parade". Here's Our Royal Correspondent,

:11:13. > :11:18.Nicholas Witchell. It was unmistakably her day,

:11:19. > :11:22.and she was unmissable in a hat and coat of almost Day-Glo

:11:23. > :11:29.vividness, but regardless of the fact that this

:11:30. > :11:32.was the Queen's official 90th birthday, you can guess who rather

:11:33. > :11:35.stole the show when it came to the appearance on the Palace

:11:36. > :11:37.balcony to watch an RAF Trying his hand at some aircraft

:11:38. > :11:42.spotting, encouraged by his father As the aircraft flew over London,

:11:43. > :11:47.a certain amount of squinting For the first time, George's sister

:11:48. > :11:55.Charlotte was brought Fly-pasts are a bit lost

:11:56. > :12:03.on you when you are one-year-old. They are best left to your brother,

:12:04. > :12:06.who seemed by now to be There had been lots of that -

:12:07. > :12:10.saluting, that is - earlier, when the Queen arrived

:12:11. > :12:14.on Horse Guards for her official She inspected the ranks

:12:15. > :12:22.of her foot guard regiments. The Massed Bands marched and among

:12:23. > :12:25.the military music there was a variation

:12:26. > :12:29.of an appropriate birthday melody. Being trooped this year,

:12:30. > :12:45.one of the colours of the Coldstream Guards,

:12:46. > :12:47.borne past the most experienced pair of eyes on the parade ground -

:12:48. > :12:50.the Queen first attended Trooping of the Colour

:12:51. > :12:54.as Princess Elizabeth in 1947, the first parade after

:12:55. > :12:56.the Second World War. Your Majesty, this year,

:12:57. > :12:59.on behalf of all ranks of the Household Division

:13:00. > :13:01.and the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery, may I wish

:13:02. > :13:04.you and His Royal Highness the very Your Majesty's Guards are ready

:13:05. > :13:12.to march off, Ma'am. The Queen boarded her carriage

:13:13. > :13:17.for the journey back to the palace, along a Mall

:13:18. > :13:21.crowded with spectators. 90 - she is fantastic and I wouldn't

:13:22. > :13:26.miss it for the world. Being an American we don't have

:13:27. > :13:29.this, and when the British put She is a head of state who always

:13:30. > :13:35.seems slightly surprised to encounter clearly

:13:36. > :13:39.expressed popular feelings. Today, the crowd seemed

:13:40. > :13:43.bigger than at any time since the Diamond Jubilee

:13:44. > :13:46.and from them, as from her Armed Forces, there was not merely

:13:47. > :13:50.an expression of respect for a long serving monarch, on this official

:13:51. > :13:54.90th birthday weekend a good many people seem to have come

:13:55. > :13:56.to show their affection. Nicholas Witchell, BBC

:13:57. > :14:05.News, Buckingham Palace. Stay with us on BBC

:14:06. > :14:18.World News, still to come: Here in Britain the former owner

:14:19. > :14:21.of the BHS department store chain, Sir Philip Green, has threatened

:14:22. > :14:24.to boycott a parliamentary inquiry into the collapse of the retailer,

:14:25. > :14:26.unless the chairman of the investigating Work

:14:27. > :14:31.and Pensions Committee resigns. Sir Philip says the Labour Member

:14:32. > :14:33.of Parliament, Frank Field, Our Business Correspondent,

:14:34. > :14:37.Joe Lynam says it is not the first time that the clothing tycoon has

:14:38. > :14:40.called on Frank Field to resign. I've seen quite a few angry

:14:41. > :14:42.letters from Sir Philip, but this was pretty angry and quite

:14:43. > :14:45.personal towards the Chairman In his letter he said

:14:46. > :14:49.to Frank Field, you have used your position as Chair

:14:50. > :14:52.of the Work and Pensions Committee to do your very best

:14:53. > :14:55.to destroy my reputation. I am not prepared to participate

:14:56. > :14:58.in a process which has not even the pretence

:14:59. > :15:03.of fairness and objectivity. So basically he is asking

:15:04. > :15:06.for an elected official to resign, or he may not appear before MPs

:15:07. > :15:33.conducting an enquiry into Violence has flared in Marseille

:15:34. > :15:37.between rival fans ahead of England's Euro 2016 match against

:15:38. > :15:40.Russia. At least 12 people have been killed in suicide bombings in

:15:41. > :15:44.Syria's holiest Shia shrine. Sweden's foreign minister has warned

:15:45. > :15:47.that if Britain votes to leave the European Union in a referendum

:15:48. > :15:49.later this month, it could ultimately lead

:15:50. > :15:51.to the break-up of the EU. In an interview for the BBC's

:15:52. > :15:54.This Week's World programme, the former European Commissioner,

:15:55. > :15:56.Margot Wallstrom, said Either way it's a loss for Europe,

:15:57. > :16:03.because I think that the spill-over effect will be unfortunately

:16:04. > :16:11.felt, deeply felt. It will either mean that the UK

:16:12. > :16:24.actually leaves and that will be the start of a two-year negotiation,

:16:25. > :16:30.and that might affect other EU member states as well,

:16:31. > :16:32.saying well, if they can leave, if they can leave, maybe we should

:16:33. > :16:35.also have referenda so maybe we should also leave,

:16:36. > :16:38.maybe it's better that we leave. Or if they stay, it will also mean

:16:39. > :16:41.other countries negotiate and ask and demand special treatment,

:16:42. > :16:50.so why shouldn't we? And I think it will break up,

:16:51. > :16:55.so it will be bad either way. But of course we're hoping

:16:56. > :16:58.that they will stay because that would be the worst alternative,

:16:59. > :17:03.and Swedes, 90,000 Swedes living in the UK, with so many companies

:17:04. > :17:16.investing with the UK being a trading partner to Sweden,

:17:17. > :17:19.a very important one, of course this will mean

:17:20. > :17:21.there will be big changes and they will have to negotiate

:17:22. > :17:24.different trade deals and it will be just a matter

:17:25. > :17:29.of insecurity and investors We start with Euro 2016

:17:30. > :17:37.and an historic win for Wales - who are playing in their first major

:17:38. > :17:39.tournament since 1958. They beat Slovakia in their opening

:17:40. > :17:45.game of the tournament. 2-1 the final score in Bordeaux,

:17:46. > :17:58.as Nick Parrott reports. Wales 58 year wait for major

:17:59. > :18:02.championship football finally over. They belted out their National

:18:03. > :18:06.Anthem might never before. Their hopes rest on the shoulders of

:18:07. > :18:11.Gareth Bale well Slovakia looks towards their start. Twisting and

:18:12. > :18:15.turning like an eel, there was no stopping him until Ben Davies got

:18:16. > :18:19.his way. Moments like that can set the tone and the missed opportunity

:18:20. > :18:24.was to be rude soon after by Jonathan Williams was brought down.

:18:25. > :18:30.It was perfect range for bail. And he duly said Wales on their way.

:18:31. > :18:34.Bail for Wales. It is in! He's done it again. They might have had

:18:35. > :18:38.another at half-time had Martin Skrtel been punished for this. The

:18:39. > :18:42.second half reflected the first, this time initially in Slovakia's

:18:43. > :18:46.favour. Bail was tortured and maize later there was no stopping Ondrej

:18:47. > :18:51.Duda. For a while they threatened to go on to win. Substitute Hal

:18:52. > :18:55.Robson-Kanu, currently without a club, put himself in a shop window

:18:56. > :18:58.in the best possible way, to save Wales's day.

:18:59. > :19:00.In the same group England are taking on Russia in Marseilles.

:19:01. > :19:10.In the first game of the day at Euro 2016, Switzerland beat

:19:11. > :19:15.Five of the Albanian starting eleven were born

:19:16. > :19:19.or brought up in Switzerland, while two brothers lined up

:19:20. > :19:22.against each other for the first time in the European Championship.

:19:23. > :19:35.The brothers Shia blood but not commission. Children of a time when

:19:36. > :19:40.Albanians find reference in Switzerland, making nationality

:19:41. > :19:44.decision, not a. It was an ethnic Albanian Joe Durant Shaqiri who took

:19:45. > :19:48.the corner that is Abbey share met to put Switzerland ahead. Albania's

:19:49. > :19:51.time at a major tournament had not yet passed five minutes. They

:19:52. > :19:56.settled and occasionally threatened, this was in this Sadiku's moment. It

:19:57. > :20:01.made Yann Sommer is. The game twisted away from Albania again and

:20:02. > :20:07.in desperation logs are used his hand, the decision ended his match.

:20:08. > :20:10.Reckoned yellow, red. A free kick to Switzerland that nearly settled it.

:20:11. > :20:15.To merely can hardly have gone closer. As it was, the door remained

:20:16. > :20:23.a Jaffa Albania and suddenly it yawned wide open. Gashi had time to

:20:24. > :20:25.place this but couldn't do it. Two nations with so many Thais are

:20:26. > :20:28.divided, but not by much. England's rugby union team made

:20:29. > :20:31.history as they beat Australia Owen Farrell scored 24 points

:20:32. > :20:37.as they ran out 39-28 Our Rugby Union reporter

:20:38. > :20:49.Chris Jones has more. This was an astonishing game of

:20:50. > :20:52.rugby and I historic win for England, their first victory over

:20:53. > :20:56.Australia here in Brisbane and they've taken a major step towards

:20:57. > :21:00.winning a series down under for the first time ever. After 20 minutes it

:21:01. > :21:03.looked bleak for England, Australia blitz them with two quick tries but

:21:04. > :21:09.England regrouped and dominated after the break. Some late Australia

:21:10. > :21:13.pressure, they were stitched to seal the win with a try from Jack Nowell.

:21:14. > :21:17.Eddie Jones visited his side hadn't played pretty well and said all the

:21:18. > :21:20.focus is now on next weekend in Melbourne. An England side hasn't

:21:21. > :21:24.won with such conviction in the southern hemisphere since 2003 and

:21:25. > :21:26.we know what that team achieved. New Zealand marked a 27th

:21:27. > :21:28.consecutive win over Wales, The world champions came from behind

:21:29. > :21:33.to score 21 unanswered points Ireland beat South Africa meanwhile,
