:00:07. > :00:14.This is BBC world News today. The headlines: Oscar Pistorius learns

:00:15. > :00:20.when he is due to be sentenced over the murder of his girlfriend Reeva

:00:21. > :00:24.Steenkamp. The former Olympian removed his prosthetic limbs at his

:00:25. > :00:29.sentencing hearing, in an effort to shore his vulnerability to the

:00:30. > :00:35.court. Donald Trump suggests tighter gun laws for terror suspects in the

:00:36. > :00:38.wake of the Orlando shootings. Police in Florida say that there's

:00:39. > :00:43.now no doubt the two-year-old boy snatched by an alligator is dead and

:00:44. > :00:50.they are searching for his body. And coming up, as police fired tear gas

:00:51. > :00:54.at a crowd of football fans in Lyon, we have the latest from the Euro

:00:55. > :01:09.2016 tournament, on and off the field.

:01:10. > :01:15.Former Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius will be sentenced early

:01:16. > :01:19.next month over the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. The

:01:20. > :01:24.double amputee known as the Blade Runner faces a minimum of 15 years

:01:25. > :01:29.in prison for shooting Reeva Steenkamp at his home in 2013. Today

:01:30. > :01:35.at his sentencing hearing in Pretoria he removed his prosthetic

:01:36. > :01:39.legs and hobbled on his stumps, as his defence told the court he was of

:01:40. > :01:44.honourable man. But Terry Neill fired back saying pity will play no

:01:45. > :02:03.role in the sentence. Karen Allen reports.

:02:04. > :02:10.The defensive at present would break. In a carefully choreographed

:02:11. > :02:22.moves, Oscar Pistorius is asked to remove his perfect -- remove his

:02:23. > :02:27.prosthetic legs. As he shuffles around the court, his stumps

:02:28. > :02:31.exposed. Gasps from the public gallery. Then tears as Oscar

:02:32. > :02:36.Pistorius, his head bowed low, is positioned in front of the judge.

:02:37. > :02:43.For what seems like a gesture of Mercy. Bubba Croft -- the

:02:44. > :02:54.prosecution remained unmoved. Then came the trump card. Permission for

:02:55. > :03:03.graphic photographs of the victim after her death to be made public.

:03:04. > :03:11.It is what her father asked for, in an attempt to deter others. The

:03:12. > :03:15.athlete fired four shots through a closed door. Oscar Pistorius was

:03:16. > :03:20.found guilty of manslaughter. A year later, it was converted to murder on

:03:21. > :03:27.appeal. That carries a minimum sentence of 15 years, and less

:03:28. > :03:30.compelling circumstances can be shown. The athlete has been her

:03:31. > :03:33.trade as a trigger-happy villain whose Morse is in doubt. Or other

:03:34. > :03:42.vulnerable man, anxious and broken. It is up the judge to decide. Now

:03:43. > :03:51.the world's most famous athlete will learn of his fate on 16 July. The

:03:52. > :03:57.FBI has appealed for more information about the gunman who

:03:58. > :04:11.opened fire in a Florida nightclub at the weekend, killing 49 people.

:04:12. > :04:26.We need your help in getting a clear

:04:27. > :04:31.peak of what the shirt are and why. There is information on our website,

:04:32. > :04:36.including photographs and additional information. We want to hear from

:04:37. > :04:40.any member of the public who has had any connection or involvement with

:04:41. > :04:49.or any information about the shooting. No matter how big or small

:04:50. > :04:54.you think that information may be. We want to hear from you. You have

:04:55. > :05:01.come through for me and I appreciate that. We have received leads and

:05:02. > :05:04.tips we have been following up on. Regardless of how small it

:05:05. > :05:10.information may be, I still want to hear about it. The FBI stands ready

:05:11. > :05:15.to receive your information. Speaking at the same press

:05:16. > :05:19.conference, our US attorney said it was too early to speculate about

:05:20. > :05:23.whether any charges would be brought regarding the mass shooting. The

:05:24. > :05:26.wife of Omar Mateen has been questioned by police. She is

:05:27. > :05:34.reported to have told officers she tried to talk to her husband out of

:05:35. > :05:38.the attack. Donald Trump, the presumptive

:05:39. > :05:42.Republican nominee, says people on Terror watch lists should be

:05:43. > :05:47.prevented from buying guns in the wake of the Orlando mass shooting.

:05:48. > :05:51.On Twitter, he said he will meet the National Rifle Association about not

:05:52. > :05:55.allowing people on the terror watch list or the no-fly list to buy guns.

:05:56. > :06:01.It is a softening of his position after he told an NRA convention last

:06:02. > :06:11.month that he would protect the constitutional right to bear arms.

:06:12. > :06:20.Our correspondent is in or land for us. What did you make of that press

:06:21. > :06:24.conference that we just heard? Well, I think people have been

:06:25. > :06:29.speculating, act -- asking lots of questions about how the

:06:30. > :06:32.investigation is proceeding, whether they have uncovered any new leads.

:06:33. > :06:40.And speculation about what role did the wife of Omar Mateen play in all

:06:41. > :06:44.of this. She said she knew that he had a desire for a jihadist

:06:45. > :06:49.attention, but she didn't know what exactly he might do. All of this

:06:50. > :06:55.still being explored. The press conference is still going on in time

:06:56. > :07:01.my. The FBI have asked for more time and patience from everybody, so they

:07:02. > :07:04.can continue to carry out what they described as a methodical

:07:05. > :07:09.investigation. Earlier this week, I spoke to the Mayor of Orlando. He

:07:10. > :07:13.said at some point as part of the process of these things, they would

:07:14. > :07:19.want to try and recreate the crime scene as it happened. The crime as

:07:20. > :07:23.it played out. That gives you an idea of the fact that this will take

:07:24. > :07:26.a lot of time. That is why we didn't learn too much in terms of the

:07:27. > :07:31.investigation and we were once again asked for patience and to think of

:07:32. > :07:34.the families. The press conference also talked

:07:35. > :07:39.about incidents against the Muslim community. It sounds like a

:07:40. > :07:49.difficult time for Ms Lohan is in Orlando?

:07:50. > :07:53.-- Muslims. If you think about the initial reaction to the attack,

:07:54. > :07:59.there was a fork is about whether or not this was an act of terror linked

:08:00. > :08:05.to IDS. In the days since then, the focus has shifted slightly and has

:08:06. > :08:09.been more talk about this being a hate crime and an act against the

:08:10. > :08:15.gay community, against the Hispanic community. A lot of questions raised

:08:16. > :08:20.by this. Concerns amongst the Muslim community, but also amongst the

:08:21. > :08:31.Hispanic and gay community. It has been amazing to see at the vigils

:08:32. > :08:36.and attempt to unite. Tell us more about what we are

:08:37. > :08:40.hearing from Donald Trump on gun control. He had some interesting

:08:41. > :08:49.things to say. Perhaps a little bit different to his previous stance?

:08:50. > :08:53.It is interesting because he has the endorsement of the NRA here in

:08:54. > :09:03.America. He is coming out and saying he wants to try and push for some

:09:04. > :09:14.changes to the law. He wants people on the no-fly list to possibly not

:09:15. > :09:22.have access to guns. The Republican party here are supportive of the

:09:23. > :09:26.right to bear arms. It will be interesting to see how the rest of

:09:27. > :09:31.the Republican Party respond to Donald Trump's suggestion. He has

:09:32. > :09:40.said that he intends to meet with the NRA later this week.

:09:41. > :09:41.Thank you for your time. Two Russian gay men

:09:42. > :09:46.after trying to leave a message over the Orlando shooting

:09:47. > :09:50.The pair were held for three hours after being detained as they tried

:09:51. > :09:52.to place a handwritten banner reading "Love Wins" at a makeshift

:09:53. > :09:55.Following their release, they said police accused them

:09:56. > :09:58.Human rights activists, and Western governments,

:09:59. > :10:00.have in the past criticised the Russian authorities

:10:01. > :10:02.over their treatment of the LGBT community.

:10:03. > :10:04.Police in Florida are continuing to search for the body

:10:05. > :10:06.of a two-year-old boy, who was snatched by

:10:07. > :10:08.an alligator at a hotel near Disney World in Orlando.

:10:09. > :10:12.The child was paddling in a lagoon, when he was dragged into the water.

:10:13. > :10:23.Parts of Disney World have been sealed off.

:10:24. > :10:24.All beaches in the resort have been closed.

:10:25. > :10:26.It follows the dramatic disappearance of a two-year-old

:10:27. > :10:34.boy as his family were relaxing by a lake here.

:10:35. > :10:36.The child was in the water, about a foot in the water,

:10:37. > :10:41.Father hears what is categorised as a splash.

:10:42. > :10:44.He goes and sees what is happening and he finds that his child

:10:45. > :10:46.basically is in the mouth of an alligator.

:10:47. > :10:49.The father goes to try to grab the child but the alligator gets

:10:50. > :10:51.the child, takes the child off into the water.

:10:52. > :10:56.Search and Rescue teams have been at work both in the air

:10:57. > :11:02.Trappers have caught and killed several alligators but have so far

:11:03. > :11:25.Well, they first said they were optimistic,

:11:26. > :11:49.but police now are fearing the worst.

:11:50. > :11:51.On land and almost sea, the referendum clashes

:11:52. > :12:00.Bob Geldof taking Nigel Farage on the Thames!

:12:01. > :12:11.Crowds and campaigners shouting the odds, too.

:12:12. > :12:20.The Chancellor with the man who used to do his job for Labour,

:12:21. > :12:22.claiming if you voted to leave, a sudden deterioration

:12:23. > :12:24.in the country's bank balance would mean whopping

:12:25. > :12:29.You've got a situation today where you've got a Conservative

:12:30. > :12:36.Chancellor and a Labour Chancellor telling people there will be a big

:12:37. > :12:38.gap in the public finances, that you would have to raise

:12:39. > :12:41.taxes and cut spending, and I tell you, there's

:12:42. > :12:43.only one thing worse than passing a Budget like that,

:12:44. > :12:46.it's not passing a Budget to solve the situation and sending

:12:47. > :12:51.But there's been furious backlash from those wanting out.

:12:52. > :13:01.When you have today even the Leave campaign saying there will be

:13:02. > :13:03.an economic consequence, people need to know that before

:13:04. > :13:15.He claims he would have no choice but to deliver such bad news.

:13:16. > :13:21.Because he would have to fill a ?30 billion hole in the books.

:13:22. > :13:23.But the chances of George Osborne standing on these steps

:13:24. > :13:28.It would be almost impossible to get the support.

:13:29. > :13:31.But the message that Number 11 wants to give is that if the country

:13:32. > :13:35.votes to leave the EU, we will all pay one way or another.

:13:36. > :13:39.There are nearly 70 Tories who want out of the EU and they have

:13:40. > :13:48.One MP told me, smart guy, stupid move.

:13:49. > :13:50.The Leave campaigners haven't made their views public

:13:51. > :13:53.This is no longer just about the referendum

:13:54. > :13:59.You have a Chancellor coming out and irresponsibly trying to scare

:14:00. > :14:05.I've never seen anything like it in 24 years and he needs

:14:06. > :14:08.to think again and stop this nonsense at once.

:14:09. > :14:12.You are saying if he carried on like this, you would have to go?

:14:13. > :14:15.What is responsible is for a Chancellor to say,

:14:16. > :14:17.no matter what happens, Britain is good enough

:14:18. > :14:23.But there could be huge turbulence if we vote to leave.

:14:24. > :14:25.The Out campaign have talked about five new laws

:14:26. > :14:35.It's almost like an alternative mini manifesto.

:14:36. > :14:40.This campaign has gone way beyond the ordinary,

:14:41. > :14:42.far past the usual insults and intrigue of politics,

:14:43. > :14:44.and now with a significant chunk of Tory MPs saying

:14:45. > :14:47.if the country votes out, they would try to oust

:14:48. > :14:51.George Osborne, it feels like there's a coup in-waiting.

:14:52. > :14:54.The police even got involved as campaigners weren't just messing

:14:55. > :14:58.around on the river, but taking each other on.

:14:59. > :15:01.There's little sign of apathy as this decision approaches.

:15:02. > :15:10.Every awareness of how much it counts.

:15:11. > :15:13.Police in Germany say a number of workers have been killed

:15:14. > :15:14.after scaffolding collapsed on a motorway bridge

:15:15. > :15:17.which was under construction in the south of the country.

:15:18. > :15:20.Several people are believed to be buried under rubble.

:15:21. > :15:28.Let's get more on this from our Berlin correspondent, Jenny Hill.

:15:29. > :15:36.what more can you tell us? Well, the police have now said that

:15:37. > :15:42.at least one person has been killed and a number of others endured. Six

:15:43. > :15:47.of them seriously after this motorway bridge collapsed. It is

:15:48. > :15:52.perhaps a little difficult to imagine. This bridge was under

:15:53. > :15:57.construction, brand-new bridge designed to carry a motorway. By

:15:58. > :16:02.huge construction site. The bridge itself is 20 metres high. Something

:16:03. > :16:07.like 20 workers were actually on the construction site when a section of

:16:08. > :16:10.that bridge collapsed, taking with it the scaffolding which was

:16:11. > :16:18.attached to it, and some of the workers. The picture is emerging

:16:19. > :16:28.from the scene are quite chaotic. Tangled metal and concrete lying on

:16:29. > :16:33.the ground. About 150 emergency services workers there. It is not

:16:34. > :16:38.clear how many if any people are trapped under the rubble. Are very

:16:39. > :16:43.chaotic scene at the moment. There is some confusion as to how many

:16:44. > :16:49.people may have died. The police are saying at least one person. The

:16:50. > :16:55.Bavarian Interior Ministry said at least two. We expect the confusion

:16:56. > :17:00.to die down over the coming hours. But just know it emergency workers

:17:01. > :17:01.are combing the site, trying to find anyone still trapped under the

:17:02. > :17:06.rubble. An alliance of opposition forces

:17:07. > :17:09.in Syria is on the verge of taking back control of a key city

:17:10. > :17:11.from the so-called A combined force of Kurdish,

:17:12. > :17:14.Arab and Turkmen fighters, backed by US air support,

:17:15. > :17:17.have encircled Men-bij Manbij The town is a crucial staging post

:17:18. > :17:21.on the group's supply lines between the Turkish border

:17:22. > :17:23.and its headquarters in Raqqa. Our correspondent Jiyar Gol

:17:24. > :17:26.and producer Joe Inwood are the only international broadcasters to have

:17:27. > :17:54.gained access to this area. It is a difficult drive to the front

:17:55. > :17:59.line at Men-bij Manbij. Isis has retreated but left minds and deadly

:18:00. > :18:08.truck spying. We have to do drive off-road. Now is silly and

:18:09. > :18:17.democratic forces have encircled the city. Islamic State is under siege.

:18:18. > :18:21.Men-bij Manbij is mainly Arab region. Arabs are fighting alongside

:18:22. > :18:37.the Kurds. We are the gates of Men-bij Manbij.

:18:38. > :18:44.God willing we will liberate our families from them. Coalition

:18:45. > :18:53.fighters face a determined enemy, willing to die. This man was just

:18:54. > :18:59.seconds away from detonating his suicide belt. Western special forces

:19:00. > :19:09.are also on the court ground here. We caught a glimpse but were told to

:19:10. > :19:14.stop filming. Coalition air strikes are taking out key Islamic State

:19:15. > :19:22.targets. And this is what coalition air power can do. Here you can see

:19:23. > :19:31.this as one of the ISPs and is. Bodies are laid everywhere. But even

:19:32. > :19:38.behind the front lines, these people are not safe from Islamic State

:19:39. > :19:56.fighters. We are interviewing when this happens. We are hearing sniper

:19:57. > :20:00.bullets flying overhead. It seems the fight is intensifying. I can see

:20:01. > :20:05.the smoke rising from the village. I think something happened in the

:20:06. > :20:11.village. Although the militants are on the back foot, they are far from

:20:12. > :20:24.out of the fight. And this makes these men nervous. They think they

:20:25. > :20:30.are coming under attack from an ISO truck bomb. But a closer look

:20:31. > :20:36.reveals it is civilians they are firing on. They have been living

:20:37. > :20:48.under strict ISP control for two and a half years. This group has managed

:20:49. > :20:53.to flee. TRANSLATION: It is shameful. We have kids and older

:20:54. > :21:02.people. We gathered them and tried to get away. TRANSLATION: They

:21:03. > :21:08.killed as. They killed our children. They made us grow beards and told us

:21:09. > :21:16.what to wear. The woman had to be covered. God help us. The youngest

:21:17. > :21:23.to escape was one-day-old. Welcome to this world. These people may have

:21:24. > :21:31.escaped, but tens of thousands remain trapped. With IS digging in,

:21:32. > :21:39.the coalition may need to fight them street by street. The battle for

:21:40. > :21:55.Manbij is far from over. The World Anti-Doping Agency says

:21:56. > :22:00.more than 700 attempts to carry out drug testing in Russia have been

:22:01. > :22:03.obstructed. This is a damning report two days before a key decision

:22:04. > :22:09.regarding by the Russian athletes can compete at the Olympics in Rio

:22:10. > :22:15.de Janeiro. The report says testers had been intimidated by security

:22:16. > :22:20.services and packages containing samples had been tampered with. And

:22:21. > :22:26.athlete had provided false information on their whereabouts or

:22:27. > :22:27.avoided trouble -- avoided drug testers at competitions. More on

:22:28. > :22:30.this story as we get it. French police have fired tear gas

:22:31. > :22:32.at England football fans Thousands of extra police had been

:22:33. > :22:37.drafted in after clashes between Russian, English and French

:22:38. > :22:39.fans in Marseille. Russia lost 2-1 to

:22:40. > :22:41.Slovakia in Lille today. England are playing Wales in nearby

:22:42. > :22:43.Lens on Thursday. The BBC's Danny Savage

:22:44. > :23:11.is in the centre of Lille. Tear gas was fired nearby. England

:23:12. > :23:16.fans responded to reports of trouble. They try to get out of the

:23:17. > :23:20.square and up to other England fans, looking to see what happens. They

:23:21. > :23:28.have been pushed back into the corner of the square. There being

:23:29. > :23:31.noisy and boisterous. The feeling I get from talking to some of them is

:23:32. > :23:34.that some of them are looking for trouble. It doesn't bode well for

:23:35. > :23:39.the rest of the evening. It is quite tense here in Lille at the moment.

:23:40. > :23:42.After violence in the stands at the end of the football game

:23:43. > :23:44.between Russia and England game on Saturday, Uefa said it

:23:45. > :23:46.would disqualify Russia from Euro 2016 if there

:23:47. > :23:50.That's not gone down well back in Russia, where many people

:23:51. > :23:52.believe their country has been unfairly punished.

:23:53. > :23:59.Steve Rosenberg talked to football fans in Moscow.

:24:00. > :24:07.I am in a bar in Moscow premiere showing the Russia against Slovakia

:24:08. > :24:12.match. I want to know what Russian football fans back home think about

:24:13. > :24:18.the violence which has overshadowed the start of Euro 2016. What did he

:24:19. > :24:23.think of Uefa ruling their team would be disqualified if Russian

:24:24. > :25:20.fans were involved in further crowd disturbances in the stadium?

:25:21. > :25:27.Speaking to people here has got me thinking. I often get the impression

:25:28. > :25:32.that many Russians feel the whole world is against them. They feel

:25:33. > :25:37.that America is plotting revolution here or that Nato is planning an

:25:38. > :25:41.attack the West wants to stop Russia taking part in the Olympics or take

:25:42. > :25:47.away the 2018 World Cup from Russia. It is a very different picture from

:25:48. > :25:49.what we see in the West. Many Russians see themselves as the

:25:50. > :26:10.victims and not the aggressors. Another very lively day across the

:26:11. > :26:11.United Kingdom. Showers
