:00:29. > :00:32.he is no more representative of African Americans than the shooter

:00:33. > :00:35.in Charleston was representative of white Americans. -- a demented

:00:36. > :00:37.individual. After a search of the gunman's house

:00:38. > :00:40.- police find weapons Taking cover in South Sudan's

:00:41. > :00:43.capital - where rival There are reports at least 100

:00:44. > :00:50.people have been killed. One of the two women vying to be

:00:51. > :00:53.the next British Prime Minister says she's "disgusted" that the Times

:00:54. > :00:55.newspaper quoted her saying being a mother will make

:00:56. > :01:03.her a better leader. Also coming up: It's

:01:04. > :01:05.Serena Williams - again. The top seeded American beats

:01:06. > :01:07.Angelique Kerber of Germany to take her seventh Wimbledon

:01:08. > :01:27.singles title in straight sets We start in Dallas, where the city

:01:28. > :01:30.continues to mourn the killings It happened it downtown Dallas -

:01:31. > :01:35.during a peaceful march against the separate shootings

:01:36. > :01:44.of two black men by police. Well in the last few hours -

:01:45. > :01:48.President Obama has rejected the notion that - the country

:01:49. > :01:50.has returned to some He said the main suspect -

:01:51. > :01:55.Micah Johnson - who had told police he wanted to kill white people,

:01:56. > :01:57.especially white officers - is not representative

:01:58. > :02:20.of all African-Americans. We cannot let the actions of a few

:02:21. > :02:24.define all of us. The demented individual who carried out those

:02:25. > :02:28.attacks in Dallas, he is no more representative of African Americans

:02:29. > :02:38.than the shooter in Charleston was representative of white Americans.

:02:39. > :02:47.Or the shooter in Orlando, or San Bernardino, were representative of

:02:48. > :02:50.Muslim Americans. -- nor were the shooters in Orlando, or San

:02:51. > :02:54.Bernardino, representative of Muslim Americans.

:02:55. > :02:57.Well after a search of Micah Johnson's house -

:02:58. > :02:58.police found weapons and bomb-making material.

:02:59. > :03:01.From Dallas - here's our North America correspondent - James Cook.

:03:02. > :03:03.In Texas and across the United States, the men and women

:03:04. > :03:07.The attack here in Dallas was the deadliest on

:03:08. > :03:15.Denise Saucedo's husband was an officer here for ten years.

:03:16. > :03:25.We need to start loving one another, instead of hating one another.

:03:26. > :03:36.Micah Johnson was a US reservist and served in Afghanistan.

:03:37. > :03:38.His social media postings revealed an interest

:03:39. > :03:41.He told police he wanted to kill white police officers.

:03:42. > :03:54.Gunmen turning a peaceful protest into an act of violent revenge.

:03:55. > :03:56.Police found bomb-making equipment and an arsenal of

:03:57. > :03:59.But far from coming together after the latest killings,

:04:00. > :04:03.In Atlanta and elsewhere thousands of Americans are still taking

:04:04. > :04:05.to the streets to protest against the police.

:04:06. > :04:11.In Dallas they are preparing to say goodbye to five police

:04:12. > :04:13.officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

:04:14. > :04:16.At times it feels like this has become the motif

:04:17. > :04:23.This time, the shrine is dominated by the colour blue.

:04:24. > :04:25.But the flowers, the prayers, the heartbreaking messages

:04:26. > :04:34.are the same, this, somehow, has become routine.

:04:35. > :04:42.Our correspondent David Willis is in Dallas.

:04:43. > :04:50.All their fears are where you are back there could be reprised

:04:51. > :04:56.attacks? -- that there could be. There are concerns. But the

:04:57. > :05:00.president today very much looking to dampen down any suggestions that

:05:01. > :05:07.America is fundamentally divided along racial lines. He denied

:05:08. > :05:13.suggestions that America had gone back to the bad racial relations of

:05:14. > :05:18.the 1960s. He stressed there was unity in many forms. Unity amongst

:05:19. > :05:20.Americans of all sorts of races and backgrounds in condemning the

:05:21. > :05:28.attacks which took place just behind me a few days ago. He also said that

:05:29. > :05:32.people needed to come together to support the police force, to give

:05:33. > :05:36.them the backing they needed, whilst also the country addressed these

:05:37. > :05:43.apparent disparities in the treatment of racial minorities by

:05:44. > :05:47.the police force. As far as division and are concerned, Barack Obama made

:05:48. > :05:52.no secret of the fact he believes America is polarised when it comes

:05:53. > :05:55.to this issue of gun control. He said the reason there were tensions

:05:56. > :05:59.in many communities here between the police and the public was because

:06:00. > :06:04.the police went into those communities knowing that there were

:06:05. > :06:08.a large number of guns. He is due here next week. He is cutting short

:06:09. > :06:13.a trip to Europe. He will be looking to build consensus here on the

:06:14. > :06:18.ground. This is a city which is not used the sort of things which took

:06:19. > :06:21.place on Thursday night. A lot of people, nonetheless, will be looking

:06:22. > :06:25.to the president to give them reassurance. Many are shocked and in

:06:26. > :06:29.disbelief. Thank you.

:06:30. > :06:31.The world's youngest country is facing renewed violence.

:06:32. > :06:35.Reports from South Sudan say more than a hundred people,

:06:36. > :06:37.mainly soldiers, have been killed in clashes between supporters

:06:38. > :06:39.of President Salva Kiir and his former rival,

:06:40. > :06:43.There's a heavy military presence on the streets

:06:44. > :06:47.of the capital Juba and few people are venturing out.

:06:48. > :07:00.Fierce fighting erupted outside Statehouse while president

:07:01. > :07:02.Salva Kiir and his former enemy, Riek Machar,

:07:03. > :07:05.They were giving a press conference about South Sudan's

:07:06. > :07:07.many challenges, including a failing economy and outbreaks of

:07:08. > :07:12.violence in many parts of the country.

:07:13. > :07:14.The vice President's plea for people to stop fighting appeared

:07:15. > :07:18.We are calling on all of the population,

:07:19. > :07:21.all the South Sudanese, whether they are armed or not armed,

:07:22. > :07:30.Your government is making efforts to ensure that the peace

:07:31. > :07:39.The scene outside Statehouse was one of carnage.

:07:40. > :07:42.A doctor said so many bodies were taken to the main

:07:43. > :07:50.South Sudan is supposed to be marking its fifth

:07:51. > :07:58.Instead violence has come to the heart of its capital city.

:07:59. > :08:01.The country has been ripped apart by conflict for most of its young

:08:02. > :08:09.Much of it between forces loyal to Salva Kiir and Riek Machar.

:08:10. > :08:12.Tens of thousands of people have been killed and nearly 2 million

:08:13. > :08:16.A number of peace deals have been signed, but so

:08:17. > :08:41.Talk about Britain leaving the Europe has been overshadowed by the

:08:42. > :08:46.Conservative leadership race. There has also been a row over the role of

:08:47. > :08:49.motherhood by Andrea Leadsom. She suggested to the Times newspaper she

:08:50. > :08:55.would be a better newspaper than her rival, Theresa May, because she is a

:08:56. > :08:59.mother. Andrea Leadsom fiercely criticised the newspaper's coverage

:09:00. > :09:07.but the Times newspaper stands by the story and released an -- a video

:09:08. > :09:12.of the interview. The outside in the race, the

:09:13. > :09:15.Eurosceptic energy minister who is exciting traditional Tories.

:09:16. > :09:18.But the mother of three is facing criticism for an interview

:09:19. > :09:21.in The Times in which she suggested being a parent makes her a better

:09:22. > :09:42.This morning, outside her Northamptonshire home,

:09:43. > :09:50.I was repeatedly asked about my children, and I repeatedly

:09:51. > :09:53.made it clear that I did not want this to be in any way

:09:54. > :09:57.I am disgusted at the way this has been presented.

:09:58. > :10:00.I want to be crystal clear that everyone has an equal stake

:10:01. > :10:08.in our society and in the future of our country.

:10:09. > :10:11.But being a mum was a big part of her message during

:10:12. > :10:25.I did a stint as city minister, and I am a mum.

:10:26. > :10:31.It is clear that she wasn't trying to be cruel to Theresa May, but it

:10:32. > :10:36.has shown her inexperience and, some say, her lack of judgment, crucial

:10:37. > :10:39.if you want to be Prime Minister. Her team are making an official

:10:40. > :10:45.complaint to The Times. The journalist who did the interview is

:10:46. > :10:49.standing by her story. I don't think it is gutted journalism, it is

:10:50. > :10:54.journalism. Accurate journalism. I asked a question, she answered, I

:10:55. > :10:55.reported what she said. She is trying to become Prime Minister of

:10:56. > :11:13.this country. Theresa May made a pledge

:11:14. > :11:15.for a clean campaign. No official response from her today

:11:16. > :11:19.but she reposted it on social media. Despite appeals for unity,

:11:20. > :11:20.after a fractious referendum campaign,

:11:21. > :11:21.the Conservative leadership campaign is already off

:11:22. > :11:31.to a controversial start. There is concern over the threat

:11:32. > :11:39.posed by the so-called Islamic State. And Russia's intervention in

:11:40. > :11:43.the Ukraine. Our correspondent is at the summit.

:11:44. > :11:43.The Nato alliance meets every two years.

:11:44. > :11:50.The summit was described as decisive and historic. A lot of focus was on

:11:51. > :11:55.putting the final details together of a new brigade which will stretch

:11:56. > :11:59.across the eastern flank of Nato, across three Baltic states, as well

:12:00. > :12:05.as eastern Poland. Three to 4000 troops being deployed in response to

:12:06. > :12:11.a Russian threat, Nato says that exist in response to Russia's

:12:12. > :12:14.seizure of Crimea in 2014. NU Corporation pact was also signed

:12:15. > :12:18.with the European Union which will focus on everything from maritime

:12:19. > :12:25.controls to cybercrime. But Russia was made the main topic in many of

:12:26. > :12:28.the sessions. -- a new corporation pact. I asked them why they felt it

:12:29. > :12:35.was necessary to deploy troops on the eastern borders. Because we see

:12:36. > :12:38.a more assertive Russia. A Russia that has substantially built up its

:12:39. > :12:45.military capabilities over many years. Which is training its forces

:12:46. > :12:52.in a more aggressive posture. Which has used military force against

:12:53. > :13:01.neighbours. And taken apart of another country, Crimea, and

:13:02. > :13:10.therefore Nato needs to respond. It is responding in a proportionate

:13:11. > :13:14.way. We need political dialogue, as well. A lot of emphasis on

:13:15. > :13:24.solidarity and resolve here among Nato member states. But the US

:13:25. > :13:28.president used this summit to remind the members that they had committed

:13:29. > :13:34.to spending 2% of their GDP on defence. Something not all Nato

:13:35. > :13:41.members are doing now. The majority of allies are still not hitting that

:13:42. > :13:47.2% mark. An obligation we agreed to. We had a candid conversation about

:13:48. > :13:51.this. There is a recognition, given the range of threats we face in the

:13:52. > :13:57.capabilities we need, and everybody has to step up and everybody has to

:13:58. > :14:04.do better. Barack Obama has now left this national football stadium here

:14:05. > :14:08.in Warsaw. Nato leaders will leave this summit one by one. They didn't

:14:09. > :14:11.go away without making another commitment, and that is to the

:14:12. > :14:17.mission which has long been described as a defining mission for

:14:18. > :14:22.the Nato alliance, and that is the involvement in Afghanistan. Many

:14:23. > :14:28.Nato armies pulled out their combat troops in 2013 and 2014, but the US

:14:29. > :14:33.is continuing to maintain 4500 troops. Many Nato countries are

:14:34. > :14:38.still helping with training. When I spoke to Afghanistan's Chief

:14:39. > :14:42.Executive Doctor I asked whether there was relief at a time when

:14:43. > :14:49.Taliban attacks were on the rise. That's true. -- chief Executive

:14:50. > :14:54.officer. But if you put it into context there were times when there

:14:55. > :15:01.were 100,000 troops altogether, international troops, now despite

:15:02. > :15:06.the high number of casualties that our people have suffered in

:15:07. > :15:13.sacrifices that our troops have made, the burden of responsibility,

:15:14. > :15:19.the large share of responsibility, is on the soldiers of our own

:15:20. > :15:24.forces. That is a big change since 2002. It has never been like this.

:15:25. > :15:29.So many Afghans have been asking when will this war end. 2015, the

:15:30. > :15:35.highest number of casualties since they were recorded. 15,000 last year

:15:36. > :15:40.and many more this year. That is the unfortunate suffering of our people

:15:41. > :15:49.that has continued. If the security notion has changed worldwide, there

:15:50. > :15:56.is a new phenomena called IS, and we are not immune to that. That brings

:15:57. > :16:00.to an end another Nato summit. Along with other countries who are looking

:16:01. > :16:05.to join, including Jordan and Macedonia. It was a summit where

:16:06. > :16:08.they look East to this new brigade in response to a Russian threat. But

:16:09. > :16:12.it is a threat they say they will deal with with a mixture of

:16:13. > :16:17.deterrence and dialogue. They also looked west to the consequences of

:16:18. > :16:21.Britain deciding to leave the European Union. There was some

:16:22. > :16:26.anxiety over that. But also anxiety as Nato looks south, not just to the

:16:27. > :16:29.continuing challenges in Afghanistan, but the rise of the

:16:30. > :16:34.Islamic State, the efforts to stop it in Iraq and Syria. It also brings

:16:35. > :16:39.to an end our coverage of this Warsaw summit. For me and our teams

:16:40. > :16:40.at the national football stadium in Warsaw, it is goodbye and back to

:16:41. > :16:56.you in London. She has done it again, Serena

:16:57. > :16:59.Williams wins her seventh Wimbledon title in straight sets.

:17:00. > :17:03.Angela Eagle has says she will announce a bit for the leadership of

:17:04. > :17:07.the Labour Party on Monday. After accusing Jeremy Corbyn of failing to

:17:08. > :17:13.lead an organised and effective opposition. The development comes

:17:14. > :17:17.after Tom Watson called off talks with unions aimed at resolving the

:17:18. > :17:23.stand-off. Jeremy Corbyn has said he will stay and fight any challenge

:17:24. > :17:29.and called for unity in the party. This is about solidarity. The Tory

:17:30. > :17:36.government tried to destroy it. We have a choice. Do we go together in

:17:37. > :17:43.solidarity going forward to improve the lives of everyone, or do we

:17:44. > :17:47.allow brutality to divide us? Brutality that divides us and

:17:48. > :17:52.scapegoats minorities in order to turn us in on ourselves, rather than

:17:53. > :18:00.unite against the forces that are trying to divide us.

:18:01. > :18:08.This is BBC world News. The headlines: Barack Obama says America

:18:09. > :18:13.is united in sorrow after the killing of five policemen in Dallas.

:18:14. > :18:17.And that the actions of the few cannot define a country.

:18:18. > :18:27.Reports from South Sudan saying more than 100 people, mainly soldiers,

:18:28. > :18:33.have been killed in rival faction fighting.

:18:34. > :18:36.People who knew Micah Johnson have been talking about their impressions

:18:37. > :18:41.of him. Akwete Tyehimba is the owner

:18:42. > :18:55.of a community book shop and met You met him back in May. What did

:18:56. > :19:01.you make of him? That particular day was a positive day for our

:19:02. > :19:05.community. We were having a Malcolm X community festival, celebrating

:19:06. > :19:11.the birthday of Malcolm X. There could have been 600 people there

:19:12. > :19:14.that day. He walked into the book store. Somebody introduced him to

:19:15. > :19:22.me. He seemed to be a very strong, confident young man. Very polite.

:19:23. > :19:26.Very nice. He was thrilled to be inside of a book shop like this. He

:19:27. > :19:31.said he had never seen anything like this. All of this information on

:19:32. > :19:37.history, you know, and everything like that. He seemed very confident.

:19:38. > :19:44.Did he indicate it all some of the views he has expressed towards the

:19:45. > :19:48.police, saying he wanted to shoot white people, particularly white

:19:49. > :19:54.police officers? This is in the wake of the shooting of two black men by

:19:55. > :19:58.police officers. Not at all. It was my first time meeting him, like I

:19:59. > :20:06.said, and I did not see him any time after that. No, no expressions of

:20:07. > :20:13.anger, no expressions of, you know, any type of radicalism. Just someone

:20:14. > :20:20.who seemed to be searching for a sense of self. Someone who wanted to

:20:21. > :20:30.be a part of changing humanity as a whole, I think. I just don't think I

:20:31. > :20:34.had any idea of something like this. There have been several high-profile

:20:35. > :20:38.shootings of black men by police officers in the United States.

:20:39. > :20:41.Barack Obama said this cannot justify the actions of Micah

:20:42. > :20:46.Johnson, but did he express any frustrations with the police force?

:20:47. > :20:53.He did not express any frustrations at all with the police. But I think

:20:54. > :20:58.many people here that day, as many people in America today expressed

:20:59. > :21:07.frustrations of what we saw on the videos earlier this week. Two videos

:21:08. > :21:12.showing point-blank shootings that resulted in two black men dying. I

:21:13. > :21:17.think the frustrations were pretty high this week. We were all trying

:21:18. > :21:25.to be proactive. Because we felt the tension in the air. Trying to plan

:21:26. > :21:31.meetings later this week. But, you know, unfortunately later that

:21:32. > :21:35.day... I'm interested in what you make of the shootings this week of

:21:36. > :21:40.the five officers, and the two black men who were shot dead early in the

:21:41. > :21:50.week. Of course, we are all saddened. To ask it was a very sad

:21:51. > :21:54.day -- to us it was a very sad day when the shootings happened. We just

:21:55. > :22:02.could not believe what was happening before our eyes. None of us could

:22:03. > :22:09.believe it. But... On the other hand we don't see it as an attack on

:22:10. > :22:13.police personally. It was an attack on this system of oppression that

:22:14. > :22:20.many people feel has unjustly treated them over the years. It was

:22:21. > :22:24.not an attack on police, it was an attack on an unjust system where you

:22:25. > :22:33.have seen almost 600 police shootings so far this year. We were

:22:34. > :22:36.grieving. You know, the death of these police officers, because they

:22:37. > :22:42.were just common, working people like all of us, trying to take care

:22:43. > :22:50.of their families. On the other hand we were grieving and frustrated by

:22:51. > :22:59.the shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. We were all very

:23:00. > :23:04.hurt. In tears on Monday when we saw the video. Tuesday in tears when we

:23:05. > :23:08.saw the video. And then Wednesday in tears when the shooting occurred. I

:23:09. > :23:13.appreciate your thoughts. Thank you very much.

:23:14. > :23:20.Let's get some sports now. What a performance by Serena Williams

:23:21. > :23:24.today. Amazing. She has matched Steffi

:23:25. > :23:29.Graf's record of 22 grand slam titles and a seventh at Wimbledon.

:23:30. > :23:34.She beat Angelique Kerber in straight sets.

:23:35. > :23:38.Ruthless determination has made Serena Williams and relentlessly

:23:39. > :23:44.dominant. 22 grand slam titles make this unmistakably her era of the

:23:45. > :23:48.game. Few athletes transcend their sport into superstardom. In

:23:49. > :23:52.Angelique Kerber she faced an opponent who had beaten her in the

:23:53. > :23:56.Australian Open final. But so often Williams says her best force to

:23:57. > :24:00.court. And even with so many titles to her name still she shows the

:24:01. > :24:05.aggression of a player seeking her first. Angelique Kerber was holding

:24:06. > :24:09.her own in the opening exchanges but lost her nerves in the final game of

:24:10. > :24:19.the first set. Williams taking it 7-5. To have any success against

:24:20. > :24:22.Serena Williams requires the mental resolve to respond and Angelique

:24:23. > :24:29.Kerber was determined to show off her own skills. Shot of the match.

:24:30. > :24:33.Serena Williams applauds. This was a day where Williams' power would

:24:34. > :24:38.prove too much. This, her response to Angelique Kerber's first and only

:24:39. > :24:41.break point in the match. When the American gained the second set
