:05:34. > :05:38.day, how do you think it has gone? We are good at throwing parties and
:05:39. > :05:41.putting together infrastructure when needed. Unfortunately we are not
:05:42. > :05:46.good at pulling off infrastructure for those who need it. That's not
:05:47. > :05:50.changed with the Olympics. We have seen $20 billion spent on the games
:05:51. > :05:54.and we will be paying it off for years to come and in the meantime a
:05:55. > :05:58.lot of necessary infrastructure especially around sewage, education,
:05:59. > :06:04.health, basic needs are not being met and that's not changed.
:06:05. > :06:13.Political uncertainty and economic turmoil, this city has felt that,

:06:18. > :06:20.We will be paying it off. We have elections for a new mayor coming up

:06:41. > :06:47.for a long time, have they felt any benefit from these games? No. In
:06:48. > :06:50.general they have not felt the benefit, we had 80,000 people
:06:51. > :06:55.removed from their homes in the lead up to the games. This city took
:06:56. > :06:58.advantage of the negative stigma and reputation of these communities to
:06:59. > :07:01.upend many of them which were actually much better places to live
:07:02. > :07:08.than the public houses were people have been taken. Meanwhile the
:07:09. > :07:12.promised infrastructure has not been delivered. There was supposed to be
:07:13. > :07:16.an Olympic legacy which would have brought infrastructure up to
:07:17. > :07:22.standard by 2020 and it was completely abandoned after 2012. I
:07:23. > :07:26.know you were sceptical about any of those policies being met. As far as
:07:27. > :07:31.you can see it, what you thought was going to happen as happened, there
:07:32. > :07:37.has been no widening out of resources and the promises they
:07:38. > :07:41.made, do you think that will change? There are a few positives to come
:07:42. > :07:45.out of the Olympics, one is the international spotlight coming to
:07:46. > :07:49.Rio. So much coverage and visibility. A lot of historic
:07:50. > :07:53.condition issues in the culture here which were taken for granted are no
:07:54. > :07:57.longer so. People question the inequality much more, people are
:07:58. > :08:02.more sceptical and concerned about sewage. People just got used to a
:08:03. > :08:08.lot of those conditions and so I think now there is more pressure to
:08:09. > :08:17.change but we will see what happens. Where we are standing now we can
:08:18. > :08:20.smell this sewage, and that was one of the biggest concerns. They did it
:08:21. > :08:23.in the immediate spaces were the sporting events are taking place,
:08:24. > :08:30.but you are saying they have shunned the issue to the global audience
:08:31. > :08:35.cannot see it. Absolutely, you cannot see it on television, you
:08:36. > :08:38.cannot smell it so it's not thought of as affecting people. The
:08:39. > :08:42.infrastructure we sought getting put in was things which were visual,
:08:43. > :08:46.cable cars which are underused because that is not what the
:08:47. > :08:51.residents demanded but they look great on photographs. We need to see
:08:52. > :08:59.a change. Thank you so much for joining us, we appreciate your
:09:00. > :09:00.insight. So how does it work for these games? Let's look at the
:09:01. > :09:04.medals table. The United States is still
:09:05. > :09:07.on top - with 45 golds. Great Britain is in second place -
:09:08. > :09:19.with 27 golds. Team GB have done what no country
:09:20. > :09:25.has ever been able to do, bettering their medal tally from when they
:09:26. > :09:30.hosted the game. 67 medals in total. Look at the gold, that is what
