:00:00. > :00:00.This is BBC World News Today, broadcasting in the UK

:00:00. > :00:09.and around the world. I'm Alpa Patel.

:00:10. > :00:11.The headlines: A quarter of a million Syrians under

:00:12. > :00:15.siege in rebel-held Aleppo and just six hospitals operational

:00:16. > :00:25.after the largest is hit by fresh airstrikes.

:00:26. > :00:28.A doctor films the destruction for the BBC.

:00:29. > :00:30.One international charity tells us the aim is to destroy healthcare

:00:31. > :00:35.This is actually the third attack on the hospital within a week.

:00:36. > :00:37.This is ongoing destruction of the healthcare

:00:38. > :00:41.Jamaicans stock up, stripping supermarket shelves bare,

:00:42. > :00:52.as the strongest Atlantic storm in almost a decade heads their way.

:00:53. > :00:56.The Pope celebrates mass in a largely empty stadium

:00:57. > :00:58.in Georgia after the local Orthodox Christian church urges

:00:59. > :01:05.And meet the Trumpettes, supporters of the Republican candidate,

:01:06. > :01:08.who aim is to improve his following among

:01:09. > :01:34.Good-looking guy, I have seen pictures of him when he was younger,

:01:35. > :01:36.he is wealthy. Who are women going to go for? They are going to go for

:01:37. > :02:07.him. An air raid on the rebel-held

:02:08. > :02:10.eastern part of the Syrian city of Aleppo, is reported to have hit

:02:11. > :02:13.the largest hospital in the area - which supports the hospital,

:02:14. > :02:32.said it had been struck The same facility was hit

:02:33. > :02:36.on Wednesday in a raid carried out by either the Syrian government

:02:37. > :02:38.or Russian warplanes. Once again, a place of sanctuary has

:02:39. > :02:42.been crushed by Syria's war. The largest hospital in East Aleppo

:02:43. > :02:45.was pounded this morning as Syrian regime and Russian forces closed

:02:46. > :02:47.in on the rebel-held area. These pictures, filmed for the BBC,

:02:48. > :02:50.showed the wreckage from what medics Operating rooms have been destroyed,

:02:51. > :02:54.medical equipment and stocks of drugs rendered useless

:02:55. > :02:55.by the second attack This doctor, the hospital

:02:56. > :02:59.manager, says ten people He holds up the remains of a cluster

:03:00. > :03:03.munition which he says landed A chlorine bomb was

:03:04. > :03:06.also used, he adds. He shows the camera around the ruins

:03:07. > :03:11.of the hospital on which 250,000 people living in besieged eastern

:03:12. > :03:13.Aleppo depended. Only six operational clinics

:03:14. > :03:16.are left for the whole area. Outside, the force of

:03:17. > :03:18.the bombing was clear. Parts of building reduced

:03:19. > :03:20.to rubble and concrete ripped Two people were killed

:03:21. > :03:23.beside the entrance. More lives reduced to casualty

:03:24. > :03:25.figures. In a written statement,

:03:26. > :03:26.the French Foreign Minister But the UN has proved unable to stop

:03:27. > :03:53.the bloodshed for five and a half years and still it goes on,

:03:54. > :03:56.this the latest ground offensive towards East Aleppo,

:03:57. > :03:58.as regime forces advanced The destruction mirrors the collapse

:03:59. > :04:08.of the Russian/US ceasefire here. Britain's Foreign Secretary Boris

:04:09. > :04:11.Johnson warning Russia's attacks Rebel forces say they are fighting

:04:12. > :04:23.back. Syrian state TV says

:04:24. > :04:24.opposition attacks killed 11 Syria's largest city

:04:25. > :04:27.is being annihilated the President of Syrian

:04:28. > :04:49.American Medical Society. He was born and raised in Alabama

:04:50. > :04:54.himself. Doctors there have been telling him about what happened when

:04:55. > :04:59.the hospital were hit. This is an ongoing destruction of the health

:05:00. > :05:02.care system inside Aleppo. We all agree at this time that the aim is

:05:03. > :05:08.to paralyse the health care structure and to achieve two goals,

:05:09. > :05:14.the first is to threaten, pushed civil society to collapse and

:05:15. > :05:18.displaced people out of the city of Aleppo. The second target is to

:05:19. > :05:23.punish the civilians by abandoning any access to health care at this

:05:24. > :05:28.time. Do you believe these are targeted attacks because as you say,

:05:29. > :05:33.this is the third attack on this hospital, and other was attacked

:05:34. > :05:37.early in the week as well? I think those are deliberate attacks on

:05:38. > :05:41.those hospitals. And fortunately, as you are well aware, this ongoing

:05:42. > :05:49.debate right now about who we know that they are hospitals? Were they

:05:50. > :05:52.there before 2011? Whom are they serving? Let me start by describing

:05:53. > :05:58.the landscape of what those hospitals do. On a regular day, we

:05:59. > :06:03.see more children and women more than we see former cases, and those

:06:04. > :06:08.two major hospitals that were attacked and destroyed last week.

:06:09. > :06:12.Those services right now are completely paralysed because we

:06:13. > :06:15.don't have any capacity to provide the children and women already in

:06:16. > :06:23.basis, including pregnancies and deliveries and so on. The second

:06:24. > :06:28.fact is those hospitals were registered before the year 2011.

:06:29. > :06:41.They are known medical facilities. Let's get some other

:06:42. > :06:42.stories for you. In Egypt - gunmen have killed

:06:43. > :06:45.at least five police officers The Interior Ministry

:06:46. > :06:47.said attackers sprayed their police car with bullets -

:06:48. > :06:50.as they drove through The killings came just days

:06:51. > :06:53.after three officers and their driver were shot

:06:54. > :06:55.dead in the same city. Protests have been taking place

:06:56. > :06:58.in the Polish capital, Warsaw, against government plans

:06:59. > :07:00.for a near total ban on abortion. The demo comes a week after Poland's

:07:01. > :07:03.parliament said it plans to only allow abortions -

:07:04. > :07:05.if the mother's life is at risk. The Council of Europe described

:07:06. > :07:08.the proposals as serious Months of political deadlock

:07:09. > :07:11.in Spain could be coming to an end, after the leader of the main

:07:12. > :07:14.opposition party was ousted. Pedro Sanchez, who leads

:07:15. > :07:16.to the Socialist party, has blocked attempts by the acting

:07:17. > :07:19.prime minister to form a government. Spain has had two general elections

:07:20. > :07:22.since December, but no party has gained enough support

:07:23. > :07:29.to form a government. The strongest Atlantic hurricane

:07:30. > :07:32.in almost a decade - is moving across the Caribbean Sea

:07:33. > :07:34.towards Jamaica. Hurricane Matthew had strengthened

:07:35. > :07:37.to a rare Category Five - the highest level storm -

:07:38. > :07:43.but it has now downgraded Our reporter, Nick Davis

:07:44. > :07:46.is in Kingston. He says people there are getting

:07:47. > :07:58.ready for the worst. Lots of people are going out, making

:07:59. > :08:02.sure they've got cooking gas, petrol for their vehicles, making sure they

:08:03. > :08:05.have everything they need because they know it will take a certain

:08:06. > :08:11.amount of time for the government to be able to ramp up and be able to

:08:12. > :08:15.help everybody who needs it everybody is really now aware of how

:08:16. > :08:20.serious this storm is and what devastation it could cause. Remember

:08:21. > :08:26.Ivan in 1988 was a category three, and it took years and years to get

:08:27. > :08:31.the country recovered from that. The countries in a better position now

:08:32. > :08:36.but even so, people that memory. People are saying, if this is a

:08:37. > :08:39.category four, we could be in for some very rough days.

:08:40. > :08:41.With me now is BBC weather presenter, Jay Wynne.

:08:42. > :08:51.We were hearing about the impact on people in Jamaica but where is this

:08:52. > :08:56.storm headed? It's been moving west on the south coast of America -- on

:08:57. > :09:01.the coast of South America. It is heading towards the Jamaica Channel,

:09:02. > :09:06.an area of water between Jamaica and Haiti. It looks like it will go

:09:07. > :09:09.through the Jamaica Channel, then northwards into southern Cuba, and

:09:10. > :09:16.then northwards into the Bahamas. You can see it on the satellite

:09:17. > :09:20.sequence. It is going to start turning northwards. It is a very

:09:21. > :09:25.powerful storm, category four, top end of what you can achieve.

:09:26. > :09:29.Category four or five, only a few miles of difference in the wind

:09:30. > :09:35.speed. It was the fourth class track, heading towards Jamaica,

:09:36. > :09:42.Haiti, there will be numerous multiple hazards associated with

:09:43. > :09:52.this. Gusts of wind, huge rainfall, up to two feet of wine over a very

:09:53. > :09:57.large area. -- two feet of rain. Dangerous seas with the huge storm

:09:58. > :10:05.surge. People are already taking action to get out of the worst of

:10:06. > :10:12.the conditions. This storm has grown quickly, hazards court forecasters

:10:13. > :10:15.aware? A little bit, it was a category two yesterday and this

:10:16. > :10:20.afternoon it had gone back to a category five, and now just below

:10:21. > :10:23.five. It did almost develop exclusively overnight so it was a

:10:24. > :10:28.little bit unexpected but it was always going to turn into a major

:10:29. > :10:32.storm, but I didn't think it would be a category five. What is the

:10:33. > :10:41.difference between a category five and a category for? Category five,

:10:42. > :10:44.100 60 mph, even if category four is 155 mph, there is not much

:10:45. > :10:48.difference. Pope Francis, who's on a visit

:10:49. > :10:51.to Georgia, has celebrated mass in a largely empty sports stadium

:10:52. > :10:53.after the local Orthodox Christian church advised its followers not

:10:54. > :10:56.to take part in Roman Catholic The vast majority of population

:10:57. > :10:59.in Georgia are Orthodox Christians, and some Orthodox priests have been

:11:00. > :11:02.protesting against the Papal visit. Earlier, the BBC's Rayhan Demytrie

:11:03. > :11:19.sent this report from Outside the football stadium where

:11:20. > :11:23.Pope Francis is delivering an open mass, there is a heavy police

:11:24. > :11:28.presence and a protest by Orthodox priests and their supporters. The

:11:29. > :11:34.reasons why these Orthodox priests are protesting our manyfold and data

:11:35. > :11:39.back to the 11th century split between the Orthodox and Catholic

:11:40. > :11:43.churches. But to put it simply, what they are unhappy about in particular

:11:44. > :11:56.today, they consider that the Pope here is to convert Orthodox into

:11:57. > :12:00.cost policies. -- into Catholicism. Inside the stadium, the Pope has

:12:01. > :12:06.spoken about peace and love. He delivered this open-air Mass for

:12:07. > :12:11.Georgia's small Catholic community. The vast population here are

:12:12. > :12:17.Orthodox Christians but there are also religious minorities. It is

:12:18. > :12:24.important that the Pope sees this in a small country. There is not such a

:12:25. > :12:29.big Paris. I think it is a blessing for Georgia as well to have the Pope

:12:30. > :12:33.here for the second time in 16 years. It is exciting and this mass

:12:34. > :12:34.was wonderful and now we are going to take holy Communion from the

:12:35. > :12:37.Pope. South Korea's President,

:12:38. > :12:39.Park Geun-hye, has called on North Koreans to abandon

:12:40. > :12:41.their country and defect. Speaking at an event

:12:42. > :12:43.to mark Armed Forces day, she said she was well aware

:12:44. > :12:45.of the gruesome realities of everyday life north

:12:46. > :12:48.of the border, and told North Koreans they could make

:12:49. > :12:51.a fresh start in the free South. A North Korean soldier defected

:12:52. > :12:53.by walking across the two countries' heavily fortified

:12:54. > :12:57.border on Thursday. Ms Park also warned Pyongyang

:12:58. > :12:59.about its nuclear tests, saying Stay with us on BBC

:13:00. > :13:18.World News, still to come: Rory McIlroy leads the European

:13:19. > :13:22.fightback at the Ryder Cup. We will bring you the latest from Hazeltine.

:13:23. > :13:25.One man has died after a coach taking Rangers football fans

:13:26. > :13:28.to a match at Ibrox crashed near Kilmarnock in East Ayshire.

:13:29. > :13:39.Some of the details are still a virgin about this crash. It happened

:13:40. > :13:46.at around 1:15pm this afternoon. -- still emerging. 31 people were on

:13:47. > :13:52.board, they were on their way to the Rangers and Partick Thistle match at

:13:53. > :13:56.the Ibrox. We have a statement from Scotland Fire and Rescue Service who

:13:57. > :13:59.said when they arrived on the scene, there were an umber of people still

:14:00. > :14:01.inside the coach and a number of people walking wounded. The BBC

:14:02. > :14:06.colleagues reported metal cutters were being used on the bus this

:14:07. > :14:10.afternoon. 18 people were taken to hospital, three of whom were in a

:14:11. > :14:16.serious condition. This includes seven men under the age of 20 years

:14:17. > :14:19.old, three men and three women aged between 30 and 59 and five men over

:14:20. > :14:27.the age of 60. Police collar and have also confirmed -- police

:14:28. > :14:32.Scotland have also confirmed... This is BBC World News. The latest

:14:33. > :14:36.headlines. An air raid on the rebel-held eastern part of the city

:14:37. > :14:42.of Aleppo is reported to have had the largest hospital in the area for

:14:43. > :14:46.the third time in a week. Hurricane Matthew, the strongest Atlantic

:14:47. > :14:52.storm in almost a decade is heading towards Jamaica and Cuba with winds

:14:53. > :14:58.reaching 230: that is an hour. Latest figures seen by the BBC show

:14:59. > :15:02.that at least 1000 refugees and migrants each week are still

:15:03. > :15:06.attempting to reach the EU through Serbia and the Balkans.

:15:07. > :15:08.That's despite claims by the President of the European

:15:09. > :15:11.Council Donald Tusk that migrant flows along the route had come

:15:12. > :15:14.For this special report, our Europe Correspondent Damian

:15:15. > :15:15.Grammaticas travelled to Serbia and Greece.

:15:16. > :15:18.He found that most of the refugees reaching Serbia now,

:15:19. > :15:25.are coming with the help of people smugglers.

:15:26. > :15:28.This is how they are getting into Europe now.

:15:29. > :15:30.Afghan refugees clinging to the bottom of the train,

:15:31. > :15:39.20 hours they spent there, among them this man.

:15:40. > :15:50.Caught by police, he's now in Serbia.

:15:51. > :15:53.He had spent months trapped in Greece, passing the time teaching

:15:54. > :15:56.Englsh to other refugees, determined not to go

:15:57. > :16:00.back to Afghanistan, too afraid after the Taliban

:16:01. > :16:15.The Taliban took one of my friends, they searched his pockets,

:16:16. > :16:20.they found evidence that he was a translator for the Americans.

:16:21. > :16:23.Europe's refugee crisis has not gone away.

:16:24. > :16:30.So Serbia, along with Greece, has become the new staging

:16:31. > :16:37.The army has been sent to try to secure Serbia's borders

:16:38. > :16:40.but up to 200 refugees a day are being discovered.

:16:41. > :16:44.Smuggling is now so lucrative, we were told, other forms of crime

:16:45. > :16:51.TRANSLATION: Our information is refugees pay from 800

:16:52. > :17:06.In Greece, thousands are stuck in grim conditions,

:17:07. > :17:13.Several hundred refugees had disappeared from this camp

:17:14. > :17:19.These children and their mother were from Damascus.

:17:20. > :17:22.Anyone who can afford it uses a smuggler, she says.

:17:23. > :17:25.If you have money, you go in with the Mafia.

:17:26. > :17:35.This is the route the refugees have been taking, from Greece

:17:36. > :17:38.through Macedonia, over the mountains, eventually

:17:39. > :17:44.Governments say closing the borders has stopped the flows,

:17:45. > :17:47.but it seems that refugees are still making it through,

:17:48. > :17:55.Further north in Serbia, they're starting to back up.

:17:56. > :17:59.Borders may be tightening, but the dream of Europe isn't

:18:00. > :18:15.fading, just turning into an organised, underground racket.

:18:16. > :18:19.Europe have continued their fight back on the second day

:18:20. > :18:21.of the Ryder Cup at the Hazeltine golf club in Minnesota.

:18:22. > :18:24.You'll remember that the Europeans lost the first four foursomes

:18:25. > :18:33.matches at the start of the first day but they have trimmed

:18:34. > :18:35.the United Staes lead to just one point.

:18:36. > :18:39.into the afternoon fourballs and we can go live to our reporter

:18:40. > :18:46.Nick Marshall McCormack at the Hazeltine golf club,

:18:47. > :18:55.All this for a little gold cup. It is all about national pride. There

:18:56. > :19:03.is such further out behind me. You can hear the brawls and the groans

:19:04. > :19:07.of the US crowd. They started 4-1 up and Europe has launched an almighty

:19:08. > :19:15.comeback. There is only one point in it. Rory McIlroy and Peter's are

:19:16. > :19:20.doing so well in their first match. They are full up. Danny Willett and

:19:21. > :19:27.Lee Westwood are one up against JB Holmes and Ryan Moore. USA, two reds

:19:28. > :19:31.on the ball, Mickelson and Kuchar are up. Patrick Reed and Jordan

:19:32. > :19:37.Speith, one up against Rose and Stenson. There was an enormous roar

:19:38. > :19:44.when read holding from the fairway. A brilliant shot. I've got the great

:19:45. > :19:47.map here of the pin positions. They are also tough this afternoon. They

:19:48. > :19:54.are really making the players work for every point. It has been a big

:19:55. > :20:00.turnaround so far. How did things go in the morning foursomes? The

:20:01. > :20:05.morning foursomes were level and what I wanted to bring your

:20:06. > :20:08.attention to was we bring a scorecard up from the morning

:20:09. > :20:15.sessions, the last match on your screen there, at half four Sergio

:20:16. > :20:23.Garcia and Cabrera-Bello. This was enormous void Europe because Jordan

:20:24. > :20:26.Speith and hat-trick read were 4-0 up and Cabrera-Bello and Garcia

:20:27. > :20:31.stuck together, the Spanish Armada we are calling it, they did so well

:20:32. > :20:44.to pull it back. In the early matches, Acle Roy and Thomas

:20:45. > :20:49.Pieters, what a match. Henrik Stenson and Matt Fitzpatrick went

:20:50. > :20:56.down three and two. And Justin Rose Chris Wood would also a debutante,

:20:57. > :21:06.one up against Jimmy Walker and Zach Johnson. United States could be

:21:07. > :21:16.increasing their lead. We moved to football now.

:21:17. > :21:18.The pressure has increased on the manager of Swansea City

:21:19. > :21:21.after his side lost 2-1 at home to Liverpool in the Premier

:21:22. > :21:24.Francesco Gudolin's men took the lead through Leroy Fer

:21:25. > :21:26.The pressure has increased on the manager of Swansea City

:21:27. > :21:29.after his side lost 2-1 at home to Liverpool in the Premier

:21:30. > :21:46.My position is clear for me. I work with my players. Week by week, day

:21:47. > :21:50.by day, it is not my problem. My problem is our table, it is not

:21:51. > :21:58.good. We deserve to have some points more in our table. But I think if

:21:59. > :21:59.our team play in this way, we have the possibility to turn the

:22:00. > :22:02.situation. Elsewhere Willian and Diego Costa

:22:03. > :22:04.scored as Chelsea won at Hull. Sunderland rescued a point after

:22:05. > :22:07.trailing at home to West Brom.. Dimitri Payet was on target

:22:08. > :22:10.as West Ham also came from behind to salvage a draw

:22:11. > :22:12.at home to Middlesbrough, and Watford drew 2-2

:22:13. > :22:16.at home to Bournemouth. The Formula One season

:22:17. > :22:19.continues in Malaysia and it's Lewis Hamilton,

:22:20. > :22:21.the World Champion, who will start from pole position in Sunday's race

:22:22. > :22:24.after dominating qualifying. Donald Trump is doing

:22:25. > :22:33.poorly in the polls The Trumpettes, a group of Trump

:22:34. > :22:37.supporters in Beverly Hills, The self-described "support group"

:22:38. > :22:44.for female Trump voters have spoken to the BBC about why

:22:45. > :23:04.they are voting for Trump. Lord, let us be a voice

:23:05. > :23:07.for the women of God, and women to speak forth today,

:23:08. > :23:10.and blessings be on us today in I'm Linda and I'm a Trumpette

:23:11. > :23:16.because I'm going to spread the good I say the Trumpette

:23:17. > :23:23.is the sounding of truth. I wasn't a Trumpette

:23:24. > :23:30.in the beginning, because I thought But, you know, he had that show,

:23:31. > :23:36.The Apprentice, and, with that, He had to say outlandish things

:23:37. > :23:42.to be popular. So, I think right now,

:23:43. > :23:45.we're starting to see the real Trump I think he is looking at cleaning

:23:46. > :23:55.the United States up as far as behaviour,
