:00:09. > :00:20.the latest person to distance herself from remarks she describes

:00:21. > :00:23.as rude and offensive, after a recording emerges of him

:00:24. > :00:32.candidate has said there's zero chance that he'll quit the race

:00:33. > :00:34.for the White House, despite the uproar that his

:00:35. > :00:46.after a funeral ceremony is bombed in Yemen.

:00:47. > :00:48.German police launch a manhunt for a suspect

:00:49. > :00:50.believed to be planning a bomb attack.

:00:51. > :00:53.And in sport: Nico Rosberg takes pole position

:00:54. > :00:58.in the Japanese Grand Prix, putting lewis Hamilton's defence

:00:59. > :01:15.Donald Trump has caused offence before but this time,

:01:16. > :01:19.even those closest to him have been unable to defend his words.

:01:20. > :01:22.On Friday a recording was released from 2005 in which he made obscene

:01:23. > :01:27.In it Mr Trump is heard bragging

:01:28. > :01:30.to TV host Billy Bush, a nephew of former President

:01:31. > :01:33.George Bush Senior, about trying to have sex

:01:34. > :01:36.with a married woman as well as kissing and groping others.

:01:37. > :01:40."You can do anything... When you're a star", he says.

:01:41. > :01:45.In the last hour Melania Trump released a statement

:01:46. > :01:56.His running mate Mike Pence has said he was offended

:01:57. > :02:07.Mr Trump has apologised for the comments, but has said

:02:08. > :02:11.there is no chance he will stand down.

:02:12. > :02:14.Here's our North America editor Jon Sopel.

:02:15. > :02:17.2005, and Donald Trump is on a promotional bus

:02:18. > :02:58.His lewd conversation, captured on a live microphone.

:02:59. > :03:02.Social media went into meltdown, the Republican leadership

:03:03. > :03:05.variously describing his comments as sickening,

:03:06. > :03:14.For hours last night, Donald Trump was totally isolated.

:03:15. > :03:18.I've never said I am a perfect person nor pretended

:03:19. > :03:22.I have said and done things I regret, and the words released

:03:23. > :03:26.today on this more-than-a-decade-old video are one of them.

:03:27. > :03:29.Anyone who knows me knows those words do not reflect who I am.

:03:30. > :03:33.I said it, I was wrong, and I apologise.

:03:34. > :03:38.But very soon, contrition turned to defiance.

:03:39. > :03:50.Bill Clinton has actually abused women, and Hillary has bullied

:03:51. > :03:52.attacked, shamed and intimidated his victims.

:03:53. > :03:54.We will discuss this in the coming days, see

:03:55. > :03:59.But that threat to fight dirty is not what a lot of Republican

:04:00. > :04:00.senators and congressmen want to hear.

:04:01. > :04:03.They are fearful of their own political survival and are worried

:04:04. > :04:05.that Donald Trump will cost them their careers.

:04:06. > :04:07.Some are getting ready to abandon him, others crossed that

:04:08. > :04:13.It's sad, but I cannot endorse Donald Trump for president,

:04:14. > :04:16.after those comments and the way that he said them.

:04:17. > :04:20.There's no way I am voting for Hillary Clinton,

:04:21. > :04:25.but I can no longer endorse Donald Trump, I just cannot do it.

:04:26. > :04:32.Donald Trump will take to the stage tomorrow for the second debate,

:04:33. > :04:37.his ambitions, damaged and his party uneasy.

:04:38. > :04:42.Jon Sopel with that report - and Jon spoke to me a little earlier -

:04:43. > :04:47.over why these comments are causing outrage in the US.

:04:48. > :04:59.I think that they go further than what he has said before, he has

:05:00. > :05:05.called women pics and dogs, they are factored in, but what he said last

:05:06. > :05:11.night, what emerged last night seemed much more predatory, almost

:05:12. > :05:14.violent, it was lewd, it was graphic, grabbing women by their

:05:15. > :05:17.genitalia, almost a sense of entitlement that he could have sex

:05:18. > :05:21.with anyone he chose Ulster talking about this being a married woman

:05:22. > :05:26.even though Donald Trump had only recently married himself and Melania

:05:27. > :05:31.was pregnant at the time. The Republican party on high hopes that

:05:32. > :05:36.this had crossed the Rubicon and that Donald Trump had become toxic.

:05:37. > :05:39.Donald Trump has said that he won't resign but the numbers of

:05:40. > :05:45.Republicans wanted him to go seemed to grow and grow. Yeah I think if

:05:46. > :05:49.the Republican party had an easy mechanism to dump Trump, there are

:05:50. > :05:54.many in the party who would like them to use the option but it is

:05:55. > :05:56.more complicated. For a start you already have people who started

:05:57. > :06:02.voting in many states, Barack Obama for example cast his vote in

:06:03. > :06:11.Illinois. What would happen to those votes? You've seen today, the New

:06:12. > :06:16.Hampshire Senator coming out and saying that Donald Trump should step

:06:17. > :06:19.down. Reportedly some of his closest advisers are saying to him privately

:06:20. > :06:24.that he should review his position but I don't think it's going to

:06:25. > :06:27.happen. And you have Donald Trump saying that there is zero chance

:06:28. > :06:32.that he's going to leave. Where that leaves the Republican Party, it is

:06:33. > :06:34.praying that there are no more tapes and that there are no more women who

:06:35. > :06:39.are going to contradict the assertion of Donald Trump is that

:06:40. > :06:43.what you heard on that tape is not who he is and that he isn't that

:06:44. > :06:50.kind of individual. 24-hour is before the second presidential

:06:51. > :06:53.debate. Is this going to crop up? Oh, yeah! Inevitably, Donald Trump

:06:54. > :06:58.has more or less sets though, at the end of the statement he gave he said

:06:59. > :07:04.that he has things to say about Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton and that

:07:05. > :07:09.he will see us at the debate. I think it will inevitably crop up but

:07:10. > :07:14.there are no easy ways and the Republican Party is squeamish about

:07:15. > :07:18.this blitzkrieg policy where you try and fight as dirty as you possibly

:07:19. > :07:23.can. They think that won't help them and it won't help the men and women

:07:24. > :07:27.in Congress fighting to retain their seats in the Senate and the House of

:07:28. > :07:32.Representatives. Hillary Clinton is also under fire for some leaks made

:07:33. > :07:38.about private speeches that she's made in the past. What has been

:07:39. > :07:44.leaked? These are speeches that she made to Goldman Sachs where she was

:07:45. > :07:48.on the speaking circuit and was rather pro-free trade and

:07:49. > :07:53.pro-immigration reform, rather pro-some other things as well. In

:07:54. > :07:57.the great scheme of things, I suspect that the fire storm and

:07:58. > :08:02.focus is not on her, it is all around Donald Trump at the moment.

:08:03. > :08:06.This may cause Hillary Clinton a bit of inconvenience but the lens is

:08:07. > :08:09.fixed firmly on Donald Trump at the moment.

:08:10. > :08:12.Let's take a look at some other stories now.

:08:13. > :08:15.Russia has moved nuclear-capable missiles into its most westerly

:08:16. > :08:18.territory, Kaleeningrad, which borders Poland and Lithuania,

:08:19. > :08:24.The Russian defence ministry said the deployment of the Iskander

:08:25. > :08:28.missiles was part of a military exercise and has happened before.

:08:29. > :08:30.Russia backed down from plans to permanently deploy such missiles

:08:31. > :08:36.in Kaliningrad just after President Obama first took office.

:08:37. > :08:38.Authorities in Kuwait say they have detained

:08:39. > :08:40.a suspected Islamist militant - who deliberately rammed a truck

:08:41. > :08:45.loaded with explosives into car carrying five US soldiers.

:08:46. > :08:49.Officials said the Americans were unhurt in the attack,

:08:50. > :08:51.but the assailant, identified as an Egyptian national,

:08:52. > :08:59.The attempted attack is the first to target American troops

:09:00. > :09:04.The polls have just closed in Georgia's parliamentary elections.

:09:05. > :09:07.In a bitterly fought contest, the ruling Georgian Dream

:09:08. > :09:09.Party is being challenged by the United National Movement,

:09:10. > :09:11.founded by the exiled former president Mikheil Saakashvili.

:09:12. > :09:14.Georgia is a rare example of a former Soviet State which has

:09:15. > :09:28.At least 82 people have been killed and more than 500 wounded

:09:29. > :09:33.after a funeral was bombed in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

:09:34. > :09:35.The Houthi rebel movement, which controls most of the country,

:09:36. > :09:37.says warplanes of the Saudi-led coalition carried out the attack.

:09:38. > :09:40.The Houthi rebel movement, which controls most of the country,

:09:41. > :09:42.Coalition sources deny an operation took place.

:09:43. > :09:53.As the building smokes in Sanaa, bodies lie strewn in the day brief.

:09:54. > :09:58.For the emergency services, a race against time to save the weather

:09:59. > :10:02.they can. The bitter irony that a funeral held for the father of a

:10:03. > :10:06.prominent rebel cabinet minister will now result in many more

:10:07. > :10:12.funerals as the death toll continues to rise. Chaos and carnage is all

:10:13. > :10:17.around. Hundreds of mourners have suffered appalling injuries. The

:10:18. > :10:22.Houthi rebel movement that controls most of Yemen has accused the Saudi

:10:23. > :10:26.led coalition of the air strikes and deliberately targeting the funeral

:10:27. > :10:31.ceremony. But the coalition has flatly denied the claim. Sources in

:10:32. > :10:35.the alliance say it wouldn't target such a gathering. For the aid

:10:36. > :10:41.workers, the politics have been pushed to one side and now it's

:10:42. > :10:45.about saving lives. It doesn't matter who is behind it. We believe

:10:46. > :10:49.there were a couple of air strikes that hit the building but at this

:10:50. > :10:53.point we are trying to save the lives that can be saved. All

:10:54. > :11:01.organisations are pitching in to help the health authorities. We are

:11:02. > :11:07.providing body bags and supplies to a number of hospitals in the Yemeni

:11:08. > :11:10.capital. Much more is needed. The Irani backed Houthi Carroll swept

:11:11. > :11:16.into Sanaa in 2014 and advanced across much of Yemen, forcing the

:11:17. > :11:22.internationally recognised government to flee the capital. As

:11:23. > :11:23.the two sides are locked in dispute it is civilians who are finding

:11:24. > :11:27.themselves caught up in the turmoil. German police have arrested three

:11:28. > :11:29.people in connection with their search for a suspect

:11:30. > :11:32.planning a bomb attack where the suspect -

:11:33. > :11:41.believed to be a Syrian man - uncovered hundreds of

:11:42. > :11:43.grammes of explosives. Our Europe correspondent

:11:44. > :11:46.Damian Grammaticas reports. This is the man being hunted

:11:47. > :11:49.by German police, Jaber al-Bakr, he is 22 years old,

:11:50. > :11:54.from Damascus in Syria. Germany's security services say

:11:55. > :11:56.they have to assume he is dangerous. They believe he may have been

:11:57. > :12:01.planning a bomb attack. There was a tip-off from Germany's

:12:02. > :12:03.intelligence services They raided the apartment

:12:04. > :12:08.in Chemnitz, found that Jaber al-Bakr had already gone,

:12:09. > :12:14.but hidden inside they uncovered explosives, possibly evidence

:12:15. > :12:20.of a bomb being prepared. TRANSLATION: At this time

:12:21. > :12:23.we are busy with final measures here Our main focus now is the manhunt

:12:24. > :12:28.for the perpetrator, German police say the explosives

:12:29. > :12:34.are dangerous and will probably have to be destroyed where they are,

:12:35. > :12:39.so they have been They say that Jaber al-Bakr

:12:40. > :12:42.was known to the police. Soon after, three arrests were made

:12:43. > :12:45.nearby, not Jaber al-Bakr himself but three people who it

:12:46. > :12:48.is believed knew him. They have been taken into police

:12:49. > :13:03.custody whilst police Stay with us, still to come. In the

:13:04. > :13:16.wake of Hurricane Matthew, could Kolarov take hold in Haiti? We have

:13:17. > :13:47.the latest from relief workers. -- cholera.

:13:48. > :13:54.After 437 years the skeletal ribs of Henry J -- Henry VIII's warship

:13:55. > :14:02.emerged but the Mary Rose went through another heart stopping

:14:03. > :14:06.moment. I want to be the people's governor, I want to represent

:14:07. > :14:17.everybody. I believe in the people of California.

:14:18. > :14:26.headlines: herself from remarks she describes as rude

:14:27. > :14:29.Donald Trump's own wife becomes the latest person to distance

:14:30. > :14:31.herself from remarks she describes as rude and offensive.

:14:32. > :14:34.Just after Melania Trump made those remarks Donald Trump has

:14:35. > :14:44."The media and establishment want me out of the race so badly,

:14:45. > :14:48.I WILL NEVER DROP OUT OF THE RACE, WILL NEVER LET MY SUPPORTERS DOWN!"

:14:49. > :14:50.Eric Hamm is an analyst who has written a book

:14:51. > :14:54.on what the Republicans need to do to get into power.

:14:55. > :15:01.come on, then. What does Donald Trump need to do after this scandal

:15:02. > :15:06.to get into power? Donald Trump needs to get down on his knees and

:15:07. > :15:11.do a lot of begging and a lot of handholding. But I don't think

:15:12. > :15:15.that's going to work. Republicans are fleeing the nominee in droves

:15:16. > :15:19.for right now. This is on the EE of a very crucial and very important

:15:20. > :15:26.presidential debate that he needs to be able to turn the tide. -- on the

:15:27. > :15:31.eve. You have college educated women who are going to be fleeing this

:15:32. > :15:39.candidate after the revelations of this hot Mike with him. He has an

:15:40. > :15:42.effort in front of him now. How significant that his wife and

:15:43. > :15:50.running mate have also condemned his comments? That's very interesting,

:15:51. > :15:54.especially with Mike Pence. Right after the vice president or debate,

:15:55. > :16:00.many people were actually clamouring for him to be at the top of the

:16:01. > :16:06.ticket and many were seeing him as a potential candidate in 2020. Now

:16:07. > :16:13.there are calls for Mike Pence to actually become the nominee and for

:16:14. > :16:21.Trump to drop out or stop -- drop out. Mike Pence has defended Donald

:16:22. > :16:27.Trump for the last year now. Now turning his back on him, so to speak

:16:28. > :16:33.and condemning his comments, along with his wife. So he's actually

:16:34. > :16:37.taking it on all fronts now and it will be interesting to see what

:16:38. > :16:42.happens and how he responds, particularly tomorrow in the debate

:16:43. > :16:47.in Saint Louis. So what does this mean for tomorrow's debate? How is

:16:48. > :16:53.Hillary Clinton going to handle it? Well, Hillary Clinton I think is

:16:54. > :16:57.going to have to do a 180 because she wanted to continue to get under

:16:58. > :17:02.his skin, much like she did in the first debate. I think now she

:17:03. > :17:06.probably wants to take a step back because I suspect that she's going

:17:07. > :17:13.to be thinking, as many welcomer that both the moderators and the

:17:14. > :17:16.audience, who can ask questions, we'll go after Donald Trump because

:17:17. > :17:21.of these latest comments that he made regarding women. So I think

:17:22. > :17:29.what Hillary wants to do is to be prepared that Donald Trump may begin

:17:30. > :17:33.to focus on Bill Clinton. I think that could backfire on him because

:17:34. > :17:40.she can take on a more sympathetic tone, not only with the audience in

:17:41. > :17:44.the town hall debate, but with the voting electorate who are going to

:17:45. > :17:45.be watching. Make no mistake, there will be many eyes on this debate

:17:46. > :17:53.tomorrow. Thank you for joining us. As a down-graded Hurricane

:17:54. > :17:55.Matthew makes landfall in Southern Carolina,

:17:56. > :17:58.ten people are reported to have died The hurricane's destruction has been

:17:59. > :18:06.on a far greater scale in Haiti. 877 people are now known

:18:07. > :18:09.to have died there. It's the most powerful storm to hit

:18:10. > :18:12.the area in a decade, This is Jeremie, a town

:18:13. > :18:17.of 30,000 people torn apart It has been cut off from the rest

:18:18. > :18:23.of the country for several days. Only now is aid beginning

:18:24. > :18:26.to arrive by air. The closer we got to Jeremie,

:18:27. > :18:29.the further from Port-au-Prince, Anything that was not

:18:30. > :18:36.concrete was flattened. Palm trees were bent over

:18:37. > :18:38.in half or completely There were several little fishing

:18:39. > :18:44.villages that just looked desolate. People are doing their best

:18:45. > :18:47.to rebuild their homes But Haiti is one of the poorest

:18:48. > :18:52.countries in the world and people are not expecting much help

:18:53. > :18:54.from their government. Around 1 million people are said

:18:55. > :18:57.to be in urgent need of assistance. TRANSLATION: I heard a boom and then

:18:58. > :19:01.the roof came off my house The wind took the roof

:19:02. > :19:05.and it was just completely gone. As you can see, it took away

:19:06. > :19:10.everything. Our houses are destroyed,

:19:11. > :19:17.everything is gone. In the US, the hurricane hit

:19:18. > :19:20.a glancing blow along There was damage but it wasn't

:19:21. > :19:24.as bad as expected. Millions had heeded the call

:19:25. > :19:28.to leave their homes. Further north, the storm surge

:19:29. > :19:30.brought some of the highest tides on record, flooding

:19:31. > :19:33.many low-lying areas. The National Hurricane Center says

:19:34. > :19:36.the storm has now made landfall in South Carolina and serious inland

:19:37. > :19:40.flooding is expected. Dominique Fevry, who's

:19:41. > :19:50.with the Oxfam charity in Port-au-Prince, says

:19:51. > :19:52.the hurricane has made it very difficult to reach some

:19:53. > :20:03.parts of the country. For the past couple of days, since

:20:04. > :20:08.Matthew swept through the country, medication is with the officials,

:20:09. > :20:17.with anyone in the South West is extremely difficult. We know that

:20:18. > :20:21.there are several areas of the City and principalities that we haven't

:20:22. > :20:29.been able to reach. So far we have heard of ten cases of cholera but

:20:30. > :20:33.this is yet to be confirmed. The Ministry of health in Haiti is

:20:34. > :20:44.already on the site and trying to take care of the case. We already

:20:45. > :20:51.have staff that we have two help with this disease. Since the

:20:52. > :20:57.earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010, everything hasn't been rebuilt yet

:20:58. > :21:01.so that means that a lot of the structures were still fragile and

:21:02. > :21:08.this hurricane isn't helping the case at all. We've heard as well

:21:09. > :21:13.about the Hurricanes that may come our way. We are on stand-by but for

:21:14. > :21:17.now the priority is to ensure that the people who are in the South and

:21:18. > :21:22.cut off from the rest of the country have access to drinkable water,

:21:23. > :21:36.sanitary kits, as well as food and shelters.

:21:37. > :21:39.It's a busy day of international football with World Cup qualifiers

:21:40. > :21:44.Earlier today England beat Malta 2-0 at Wembley in caretaker

:21:45. > :21:46.manager Gareth Southgate's first match in charge since

:21:47. > :21:50.Germany are beating the Czech Republic 2-0 with goals

:21:51. > :21:54.Robert Lewandowski has scored a hat-trick for Poland who

:21:55. > :22:02.the Japanese grand prix, from second on the grid,

:22:03. > :22:04.and he will be hoping that history repeats itself.

:22:05. > :22:07.It was all so close in qualifying, and Hamilton was briefly quicker,

:22:08. > :22:09.than Rosberg, in the final session of qualifying at Suzuka.

:22:10. > :22:12.But the German hit back to take pole by that tiny margin.

:22:13. > :22:26.Coming into this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix it is an advantage

:22:27. > :22:30.Rosberg who has a 23 point gap over his Mercedes team-mate Lewis

:22:31. > :22:35.Hamilton. Hamilton is keen to make amends and on the evidence of

:22:36. > :22:38.today's qualifying secession -- session at Suzuka it is still an

:22:39. > :22:44.advantage Rosberg but only by 83 centimetres. In Japan they know who

:22:45. > :22:49.is number one. There's no getting away from it, Nico Rosberg is the

:22:50. > :22:54.man to beat in Formula 1 the moment. He dominated the circuit, one of the

:22:55. > :22:57.most challenging in motor racing. The championship leader topping the

:22:58. > :23:01.time sheets in all three practice sessions and going on to claim pole

:23:02. > :23:06.position but only by the tiniest of margins. All that separated him from

:23:07. > :23:11.the title rival and Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton was 100th
