:00:00. > :00:07.This is BBC World News Today, broadcasting in the UK

:00:08. > :00:14.Here are the headlines: Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump

:00:15. > :00:17.prepare for a TV debate which could make or break their chances

:00:18. > :00:24.The stage is set for an almighty battle, as Donald Trump's camp

:00:25. > :00:27.promises to come out fighting, despite the outcry from his obscene

:00:28. > :00:38.An anti-Saudi protest in the Yemeni capital after airstrikes kill 140

:00:39. > :00:44.Safety fears for Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 after its

:00:45. > :00:51.And why do hundreds wait for a free mystery tattoo by putting their arm

:00:52. > :01:16.There are now just five hours to go until round two of the big

:01:17. > :01:18.Trump versus Clinton televised debate in St Louis,

:01:19. > :01:21.And it seems the furore surrounding a videotape

:01:22. > :01:23.showing Donald Trump making crude remarks

:01:24. > :01:31.As Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton prepare to face each other,

:01:32. > :01:34.debate moderators have altered the format so that the initial

:01:35. > :01:39.questions will deal directly with the leaked video.

:01:40. > :01:41.And for Donald Trump, his advisor, Rudy Giuliani,

:01:42. > :01:44.has said that Mr Trump may raise the sexual history of the former

:01:45. > :01:49.Let's go to our correspondent, Laura Bicker who is

:01:50. > :02:03.This has the potential to get very ugly? It does, we have Donald Trump

:02:04. > :02:07.going through his run through inside and what he will probably say in his

:02:08. > :02:10.opening remarks but we've already got an idea of the tone he's going

:02:11. > :02:16.to use from his early-morning Twitter storm. He has denounced

:02:17. > :02:20.Republicans who have abandoned his candidacy as hypocrites. This is a

:02:21. > :02:22.Donald on the attack. Donald Trump's supporters

:02:23. > :02:28.are as defiant as the man himself. As they gathered for this brief

:02:29. > :02:37.glimpse outside Trump Towers, it was clear he is still their

:02:38. > :02:39.choice to be president. As ever, Mr Trump used Twitter

:02:40. > :02:56.to reinforce his message. Later, he tried to turn the tables

:02:57. > :03:02.on the Clinton campaign. He published a link to an interview

:03:03. > :03:04.with a woman who made a historic rape allegation

:03:05. > :03:06.against Bill Clinton. The accusation has never

:03:07. > :03:17.been tested in court. 16 Republican senators have

:03:18. > :03:21.withdrawn support for their party's candidate since this

:03:22. > :03:22.video was published. He brags about kissing

:03:23. > :03:27.and groping women. Hours before the debate,

:03:28. > :03:30.his campaign team is trying He is ashamed of himself

:03:31. > :03:37.and embarrassed. He is the father of two daughters

:03:38. > :03:46.and he has eight grandchildren, He would not want them

:03:47. > :03:51.to hear or see that. Donald Trump has proved to be

:03:52. > :03:57.a polarising figure. And his sexual boasts are not

:03:58. > :04:00.putting off all his voters. Everybody has flaws and things

:04:01. > :04:02.they do that are inappropriate. It does not mean he

:04:03. > :04:07.cannot be president. I compare him to JFK

:04:08. > :04:11.and Bill Clinton, every politician have loved women and women

:04:12. > :04:14.are attracted to power. It will not just be Donald Trump

:04:15. > :04:21.facing tough questions, Hillary Clinton may be

:04:22. > :04:23.asked about e-mails Never has the pressure been greater

:04:24. > :04:27.than on a Donald Trump and if he fails this

:04:28. > :04:38.test it could be a fatal The debate format to night is

:04:39. > :04:41.different from before. There are 100 members of the audience, undecided

:04:42. > :04:45.voters who get to ask half the questions and the moderators ask the

:04:46. > :04:50.other half. We know that the first question is going to be about those

:04:51. > :04:54.Trump tapes. 80 million people watched the last debate and usually

:04:55. > :04:58.the second one, the viewers drop off but I think for this one it is

:04:59. > :05:02.really must watch. Thank you for joining us.

:05:03. > :05:05.Well as we were hearing from Laura, a number of High profile Republicans

:05:06. > :05:09.have been deserting Donald Trump, but what about his core base?

:05:10. > :05:12.Well we can speak to Charlotte Laws, one Trump supporter.

:05:13. > :05:18.I'm interested in what you make of this video where Donald Trump is

:05:19. > :05:24.seen making very aggressive and lewd comments about women? I think it is

:05:25. > :05:30.much ado about nothing, honestly. We have known for a year and a half,

:05:31. > :05:34.ten years, 20 years that he talks in a crude way, that he says things as

:05:35. > :05:39.he sees them, and he speaks that way. The thing about club, he does

:05:40. > :05:47.not support the double standard, like many in society. He is an equal

:05:48. > :05:53.opportunity critic, attacking men and women. Many people attacking him

:05:54. > :05:57.seem to think that women are fragile and should be treated differently to

:05:58. > :06:02.men, that they should be sequestered from bad words. He does not believe

:06:03. > :06:06.that, he treats women verbally the same way and he promotes women, he

:06:07. > :06:12.has a history of putting them in executive positions, high-powered

:06:13. > :06:16.position, even in the 80s, in the construction industry, when this

:06:17. > :06:22.wasn't done at all. He pays high salaries and he is into equality.

:06:23. > :06:26.Even so, he has called women fat pigs, dogs and slobs. I'm struggling

:06:27. > :06:31.to see what he has called men that even compares to these things. He

:06:32. > :06:38.has said many things to men. He called Rand Paul ugly, he has called

:06:39. > :06:40.men many things. You will read articles and you will see the

:06:41. > :06:50.attacks that women make against men. Megan Kelly called Chris Christie a

:06:51. > :06:54.fatso on Fox News and nobody reported it. I have seen comments

:06:55. > :06:59.about Trump about how he is orange, how he is tubby but nobody says

:07:00. > :07:04.anything, because there is a double standard and that somehow you must

:07:05. > :07:08.treat women differently from men. I don't believe that, Trump doesn't

:07:09. > :07:14.believe it. We believe in pure equality. But name-calling and other

:07:15. > :07:19.comments that Donald Trump has made, it's not very presidential, is it? I

:07:20. > :07:24.totally agree and if that is your argument, that's fine. I think he'll

:07:25. > :07:29.be an excellent president. I think he will overthrow the status quo,

:07:30. > :07:33.that he will change the way that things are done in Washington and

:07:34. > :07:36.I'm very hopeful about that and I think he will go down in history as

:07:37. > :07:40.one of the best presidents of all time, if he can get elected. But if

:07:41. > :07:46.you don't like the language, then that's a perfectly fine argument.

:07:47. > :07:52.I'm not bothered by the language. You can look at people like Winston

:07:53. > :07:56.Churchill, other people in history who used foul language and work

:07:57. > :08:01.great leaders. Can you understand why people have been incensed by

:08:02. > :08:04.this language, including Condoleezza Rice? It is largely because people

:08:05. > :08:11.are entrenched in our success society, they believe in the double

:08:12. > :08:14.standard -- sexist society. I think they aren't really looking at it in

:08:15. > :08:21.a pure way and many people have an agenda. They either want to derail

:08:22. > :08:25.his campaign, which has gone on from day one, the establishment, even the

:08:26. > :08:32.media in the United States have been trying everything to derail his

:08:33. > :08:35.campaign. Or they don't want to lose their own power, they are afraid

:08:36. > :08:42.he's going to come in and change trade deals, he is a bit of a

:08:43. > :08:46.protectionist, he isn't going to interfere and rebuild other nations,

:08:47. > :08:49.he has a different policy to what has been in Washington. The people

:08:50. > :08:52.in power are very afraid they are going to lose that power and lose

:08:53. > :09:10.their money. Thank you for joining us.

:09:11. > :09:13.There have been protests in Yemeni capital Sanaa after Saturday air

:09:14. > :09:15.strike on a funeral in Yemen, which killed more than

:09:16. > :09:16.140 people and injured hundreds more.

:09:17. > :09:19.Saudi Arabia described the attack in the capital Sanaa -

:09:20. > :09:22.as a "regrettable event" - and said its coalition was ready

:09:23. > :09:24.to begin an investigation - in coordination with the Americans.

:09:25. > :09:26.The US said it would review its support for

:09:27. > :09:28.the Saudi-led coalition, which is allied with

:09:29. > :09:32.Dense black smoke billows from what was a funeral hall

:09:33. > :09:35.Some survivors can be glimpsed trying to escape

:09:36. > :09:51.This amateur video appears to show how the funeral of one man became

:09:52. > :10:02.Here the aftermath of the carnage and the rush to find the wounded

:10:03. > :10:05.and dead, who, minutes earlier, had been warning the father

:10:06. > :10:16.TRANSLATION: We came here after the first hit happened,

:10:17. > :10:18.while we are helping survivors and get people out,

:10:19. > :10:28.The Foreign Office said the images from the scene were shocking

:10:29. > :10:32.and Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said if civilians were

:10:33. > :10:34.deliberately targeted, Britain would review its criteria

:10:35. > :10:51.The conflict in Yemen escalated in September 2014

:10:52. > :10:54.when the Houthi rebels, who are allied with Iran,

:10:55. > :10:57.In March last year, the Saudis and their allies began

:10:58. > :10:59.a controversial campaign of air strikes against the Houthis.

:11:00. > :11:01.The UN says more than 4,000 civilians have

:11:02. > :11:08.Most in air strikes by the Saudi-led coalition.

:11:09. > :11:10.Saudi Arabia has promised to investigate the latest strike,

:11:11. > :11:16.It says its troops have clear instructions not to

:11:17. > :11:28.But the White House has begun an immediate review of its support

:11:29. > :11:41.for the Saudi coalition, which has already been cut back.

:11:42. > :11:44.Let's return to our top story, the US presidential debate.

:11:45. > :11:46.Tonight it will have a slightly different format to the first

:11:47. > :11:49.one we saw last month - the two candidates will be joined

:11:50. > :11:51.by a live audience of undecided voters.

:11:52. > :11:53.They'll be putting questions to Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton

:11:54. > :11:57.who will be moderated by hosts from CNN and ABC.

:11:58. > :11:59.Let's speak to Aaron Kall, director of debate at Michigan University.

:12:00. > :12:06.Thank you for joining us. Shall we talk about the interview that we

:12:07. > :12:14.just did, I understand you have some strong views? Certainly a great job

:12:15. > :12:18.of a sorrow gut, making the best case and I think tonight that Trump

:12:19. > :12:22.is going to go back to his primary self and really attack the

:12:23. > :12:28.establishment and try and put him soft as being in the best light as

:12:29. > :12:32.being an agent of change in the election. How is Donald Trump going

:12:33. > :12:36.to handle the attacks that Hillary Clinton may make about this leaked

:12:37. > :12:39.tape? It's going to be front and centre at the beginning of the

:12:40. > :12:43.debate and I think the first thing he should do is immediately

:12:44. > :12:49.apologise, express contrition. Similar to Secretary Clinton during

:12:50. > :12:52.the first debate about her private e-mail server and he should ask the

:12:53. > :13:00.forgiveness of American voters, who are very forgiving people and if he

:13:01. > :13:04.shows genuine remorse they may be willing to forgive him. Both camps

:13:05. > :13:09.have been preparing for this for some time. What do you think the

:13:10. > :13:13.strategy for Donald club and -- Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton

:13:14. > :13:17.will be? Trump must address questions of his temperament. At the

:13:18. > :13:24.end of the last debate he did a pretty good job of stopping short of

:13:25. > :13:29.making really scandalous attacks. He ran out of steam. He started strong.

:13:30. > :13:33.This time he needs a solid 90 minutes and both candidates must

:13:34. > :13:36.show empathy towards the voters. Questions about the economy and

:13:37. > :13:40.trade and they need to connect with them and understand where they are

:13:41. > :13:43.coming from and provide common-sense solutions to the voters who are

:13:44. > :13:49.having a tough time making a decision. This contest has become

:13:50. > :13:56.very ugly indeed. Could it become uglier and what would voters make of

:13:57. > :14:02.that? There is potential for it to be really nasty and if he throws the

:14:03. > :14:09.kitchen sink and she comes back. Both of them have vulnerabilities. I

:14:10. > :14:12.think it will turn off voters. There are voters thinking about not

:14:13. > :14:16.voting, or in tracing a third-party candidate. If it gets so nasty you

:14:17. > :14:22.are going to see less turnout and a more uncertain election. If you had

:14:23. > :14:29.to call it either way, which way would you choose? Tonight? I think

:14:30. > :14:32.it's going to be a minor part of the debate, there will be a lot of

:14:33. > :14:41.hoopla. You mentioned Twitter. I think it will be a footnote. Thank

:14:42. > :14:48.you for joining us. Stay with us, still to come: the sports News

:14:49. > :14:52.including advantage Nico Rosberg as he wins the Japanese Grand Prix.

:14:53. > :14:58.Team-mate and title rival Lewis Hamilton was third.

:14:59. > :15:03.This was a celebration by people relishing their freedom. They

:15:04. > :15:07.believe everything is going to be different from now on. They think

:15:08. > :15:12.that the country will be respected in the world as it used to be before

:15:13. > :15:16.Slobodan Milosevic took power. The Dalai Lama, XO spiritual leader of

:15:17. > :15:26.Tibet, winning this year's Nobel Peace Prize. Two grenades exploded

:15:27. > :15:29.and a group of soldiers came from the parade and ran towards the

:15:30. > :15:35.President with Kalashnikov automatic rivals. After 400 years the skeletal

:15:36. > :15:39.ribs of Henry VIII's tragic warship emerged but even as divers worked on

:15:40. > :15:47.her the Mary Rose went through another heart stopping drama. I want

:15:48. > :15:52.to be the people's governor. I want to represent everybody. I believe

:15:53. > :16:04.that the -- in the people of California.

:16:05. > :16:06.Donald Trump's campaign team say he may raise sexual abuse

:16:07. > :16:09.allegations against the former US president, Bill Clinton,

:16:10. > :16:14.during his televised debate later with Hillary Clinton.

:16:15. > :16:16.Saudi Arabia says it's ready to begin an investigation

:16:17. > :16:40.into a coalition airstrike in Yemen, which killed more than 140 people

:16:41. > :16:42.The weekend's football World Cup 2018 qualifiers are continuing.

:16:43. > :16:44.Earlier there was disappointment for European championship

:16:45. > :16:48.They are ranked 10th in the world but could only draw 1-1

:16:49. > :16:55.Real Madrid star Gareth Bale gave Wales the lead early in the first

:16:56. > :16:56.half but an unmarked Okriashvili nodded

:16:57. > :17:01.Wales remain top of their group but could be overtaken depending

:17:02. > :17:20.Teams in the same group as Wales, Moldova and the Republic of Ireland,

:17:21. > :17:28.currently 2-1 to the Republic and Serbia against Austria where it is

:17:29. > :17:32.currently 2-2. Spain, 2-0 up against Albania who have never qualified for

:17:33. > :17:35.the World Cup before. Italy losing 2-1 against Macedonia, a bit of a

:17:36. > :17:45.shock if it stays that way. suffered a second blow in a week,

:17:46. > :17:49.as he finished third in the Japanese Grand Prix,

:17:50. > :17:51.won by Mercedes team-mate Nico Red Bull's Max

:17:52. > :17:54.Verstappen was second. World champion Hamilton

:17:55. > :17:55.made a poor start and initially dropped to eighth,

:17:56. > :17:58.which comes after an engine failure the German with only 100 available

:17:59. > :18:03.in the remaining four races. The result means Mercedes have

:18:04. > :18:05.won the constructors World number two Andy Murray has won

:18:06. > :18:15.the China Open and edged closer The Briton beat Grigor

:18:16. > :18:19.Dimitrov in straight sets in Beijing, and didn't drop a single

:18:20. > :18:22.set the entire tournament. The victory is Murray's fifth

:18:23. > :18:25.singles title of the year, as he eyes overtaking world

:18:26. > :18:33.number Novak Djokovic. three Agnieszka Radwanska eased past

:18:34. > :18:36.Britain's Johanna Konta Her run to the final has seen Konta

:18:37. > :18:43.reach the world's top 10 for the first time in her career,

:18:44. > :18:45.but she was outclassed American media reports say that

:18:46. > :19:01.a replacement Samsung Galaxy Note 7 device has caught fire,

:19:02. > :19:03.the second such incident that has On Wednesday one of the phones

:19:04. > :19:09.caught fire on a plane in the US, The company had claimed

:19:10. > :19:13.the problem with the Note 7 With me is Rhiannon

:19:14. > :19:30.Williams, the technology How much of a crisis is this for

:19:31. > :19:37.Saint-Sa ns? It couldn't come worse, it has come at a difficult time in

:19:38. > :19:40.the smartphone market and for Samsung to have their premium

:19:41. > :19:44.handset taken off the market is very bad news for them indeed. This is

:19:45. > :19:50.the second replacement. What is going wrong for the company? In mid

:19:51. > :19:58.August when Samsung started selling the Note seven model, reports that

:19:59. > :20:08.the phone was overheating when being charged. Samsung took note of this

:20:09. > :20:13.and issued a global recall, which is unheard of, not many technology

:20:14. > :20:17.companies would go to such lengths. Samsung said that they would issue

:20:18. > :20:20.people with replacements but now feed the placements are catching

:20:21. > :20:27.fire with the same issue. Is it going to hurt them long-term?

:20:28. > :20:31.Initially it was extremely bad news for the handsets to be exploding but

:20:32. > :20:34.the fact that the recall is experiencing the same problems is

:20:35. > :20:39.extremely damaging. Very difficult to come back from that and restore

:20:40. > :20:45.consumer confidence in Samsung even though it is the world's largest

:20:46. > :20:49.mobile manufacturer. People won't invest if there is a risk of harm.

:20:50. > :20:58.Is it going to play into the hands of Apple, Samsung's biggest rival?

:20:59. > :21:02.Yes, coming after the release of the iPhone seven in September. In the

:21:03. > :21:06.run-up to Christmas people are going to be looking to buy new handsets

:21:07. > :21:13.and Apple will look to capitalise. What can Samsung do to bring back

:21:14. > :21:16.confidence to the device? At this point it looks like the only thing

:21:17. > :21:25.they can do is to kill off the Mode line. People are likely to go back

:21:26. > :21:29.and purchase older models -- the Note line. They will have to focus

:21:30. > :21:35.on the Galaxy range. Thank you for joining us.

:21:36. > :21:37.Would you let someone give you a free mystery tattoo?

:21:38. > :21:40.Well in London people have been at the centre of a gallery

:21:41. > :21:43.Behind it is renowned tattoo artist Scott Campbell.

:21:44. > :21:45.He tattoos for free any arm that comes through.

:21:46. > :21:48.But there is no communication, and the person only discovers

:21:49. > :22:06.I am Scott Campbell, doing a project which is essentially a hole in the

:22:07. > :22:11.wall and I am on the other side of the wall and anyone is welcome to

:22:12. > :22:15.put their arm through. I'm going to put my arm through the wall and let

:22:16. > :22:20.the artist do its work. No communication at all. I don't know

:22:21. > :22:22.how it's going to be, it is kind of a surprise but it's going to be a

:22:23. > :22:57.good surprise! JAZZY MUSIC I don't know what it is going to be

:22:58. > :23:02.but it is big, I can say that. Part of what I enjoy about the project, I

:23:03. > :23:07.don't really worry about what's on the other side of the wall. I just

:23:08. > :23:10.get to hide in my little room and do the thing that I love to do.

:23:11. > :23:17.Sometimes you can tell the gender, sometimes it isn't clear. I tried to

:23:18. > :23:25.predict what people would get. Every time that somebody's arm comes

:23:26. > :23:33.through and I put my hands on it, "This arm needs something else. " I

:23:34. > :23:39.don't have a message. I'm doing this out of my own curiosity and learning

:23:40. > :23:47.as I go. It is an idea of what I can do with tattoos in the same way as

:23:48. > :23:53.drawing, without asking permission. Letting the artist do his work,

:23:54. > :23:55.amazing. I am profoundly appreciative of the trust it takes

:23:56. > :24:04.to participate in something like this. When people pull the arm out,

:24:05. > :24:10.I want everyone who was afraid to put their arm in to look at it and
