:00:00. > :00:13.The headlines: Donald Trump hits out again at the intelligence community,

:00:14. > :00:17.The US Congress is briefed on the report into Russia's Jack King of

:00:18. > :00:26.the US election. -- hacking. Donald Trump hits out again

:00:27. > :00:30.at the intelligence community, blaming them for releasing

:00:31. > :00:40.allegations linking him with Russia. A baby girl stolen 18 years ago from

:00:41. > :00:44.a hospital in Florida has been found, alive. Dying from the cold:

:00:45. > :00:49.the UN warns that refugees and migrants struggling to survive in

:00:50. > :00:58.Europe's wintry weather. -- are struggling.

:00:59. > :01:00.Intelligence agencies have briefed the US House of Representatives

:01:01. > :01:02.about their investigation into Russia's alleged

:01:03. > :01:07.campaign to influence the US presidential election.

:01:08. > :01:09.Also today, the president-elect has sent out another barrage

:01:10. > :01:12.of early morning tweets, accusing his opponents of making up

:01:13. > :01:20.He's promised a report into hacking within 90 days,

:01:21. > :01:25.as our North America correspondent Nick Bryant reports.

:01:26. > :01:29.There are storylines that could easily come from a Cold War

:01:30. > :01:31.spy thriller, and plot twists involving sex allegations

:01:32. > :01:34.and potential Russian blackmail that even the TV series House Of Cards

:01:35. > :01:42.But this is reality, not a show, and the first episode of Trump

:01:43. > :01:44.the Presidency airs in just one week's time.

:01:45. > :01:46.For now, Donald Trump mainly delivers his lines on Twitter.

:01:47. > :01:54."It now turns out that the phoney allegations against me were put

:01:55. > :01:57.together by my political opponents and a failed spy

:01:58. > :02:06.Totally made-up facts, by sleazebag political operatives,

:02:07. > :02:11.Probably released by intelligence even knowing there is no

:02:12. > :02:15.My people will have a full report on hacking within 90 days."

:02:16. > :02:21.On Capitol Hill today, lawmakers received a behind closed

:02:22. > :02:29.doors briefing on the unverified dossier and Russia's

:02:30. > :02:30.alleged interference in the presidential election.

:02:31. > :02:33.And many are left demanding more answers.

:02:34. > :02:36.The American people are owed the truth, and there is a great deal

:02:37. > :02:41.of evidence to say this is an issue of high interest to the American

:02:42. > :02:46.people - the strength, the integrity of our own democracy.

:02:47. > :02:50.a senior US official confirming today there were frequent contacts

:02:51. > :02:52.between Donald Trump's top national security adviser and Russia's

:02:53. > :02:55.ambassador here in Washington, and that those contacts took place

:02:56. > :02:57.on the day that President Obama expelled dozens of Russian

:02:58. > :03:03.officials in retaliation for the alleged hacking.

:03:04. > :03:05.It again raises questions about the Trump team's

:03:06. > :03:17.All this as Barack Obama performs his final acts, and one

:03:18. > :03:19.of them took his deputy completely by surprise.

:03:20. > :03:21.I am pleased to award our nation's highest civilian honour,

:03:22. > :03:30.I can say I was part of the journey of a remarkable man, who did

:03:31. > :03:38.But Washington moves on - it's always been a city

:03:39. > :03:43.And this time next week, this capital, this country, will be under

:03:44. > :03:54.The House of Representatives has voted to start the process of

:03:55. > :03:58.repealing Obama care. The US House of Representatives,

:03:59. > :04:01.where the Republican Party has a majority, has voted to begin

:04:02. > :04:03.the process of repealing Mr Obama's landmark Affordable Care Act,

:04:04. > :04:05.known as Obamacare. Our correspondent Laura Bicker

:04:06. > :04:12.explained more about Republicans say people have lack of

:04:13. > :04:15.choice now, and they believe it is Government overreach. They

:04:16. > :04:21.campaigned, and Donald Trump made it a key pledge, to replace it and

:04:22. > :04:26.repeal it. Repealing it might be the easy part, but replacing it is far

:04:27. > :04:30.more tricky. And that is because parts of it are still popular,

:04:31. > :04:35.including that mandate, which means that people with pre-existing

:04:36. > :04:38.conditions have to have health insurance, so they get health

:04:39. > :04:42.insurance that they otherwise would not get. So there is a worry that if

:04:43. > :04:46.they pull that rug away, what will be left? So now we have even a few

:04:47. > :04:53.Republicans who are voicing their concerns. But Paul Ryan, the house

:04:54. > :04:58.speaker, and the senior elected Republican in the house, has already

:04:59. > :05:00.said that they will find a way to make a smooth transition, although

:05:01. > :05:04.we have yet to hear the details of that.

:05:05. > :05:06.A woman has died in the US with an untreatable

:05:07. > :05:08.infection that could resist all available antibiotics.

:05:09. > :05:11.The case occurred last year, and details have just been released

:05:12. > :05:18.in a report by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

:05:19. > :05:20.She was infected with Klebsiella pneumoniae -

:05:21. > :05:22.which normally lives in the gut without causing disease.

:05:23. > :05:24.Helen Branswell is a senior writer on infectious

:05:25. > :05:31.She told me health authorities will be deeply concerned about the case.

:05:32. > :05:40.Some of the details are not known, as is always the case, her name and

:05:41. > :05:47.personal details have not been released. What is known is that she

:05:48. > :05:51.was a woman who was in her 70s, resident in Reno, Nevada or that

:05:52. > :05:56.area, but had been spending quite a bit of time in India in the two

:05:57. > :06:03.years prior to her death. She had an accident of some sort, and broke her

:06:04. > :06:07.femur in the right leg, which is the big bone in your thigh. After that

:06:08. > :06:11.she developed a bone infection in that bone, and also in her hip, and

:06:12. > :06:17.over the next couple of years she was in and out of hospital a lot in

:06:18. > :06:22.India. As recently as last June, as a matter of fact. That is kind of a

:06:23. > :06:26.risk factor because India has quite a high rate of some of these

:06:27. > :06:34.superbugs that we've been hearing a lot about lately. Then she went to

:06:35. > :06:38.the United States, she was cared for in a hospital in Reno, Nevada, and

:06:39. > :06:42.was quite sick, and they try to cure her and could not.

:06:43. > :06:45.What does that mean, and how worrying is it?

:06:46. > :06:52.Well, people have been warning for quite a while that we are running

:06:53. > :06:56.out of antibiotics essentially, that the bacteria are evolving faster

:06:57. > :07:00.than we can produce new drugs. Health officials have been worried

:07:01. > :07:04.about it a lot. The reason that I was keen to write about this story

:07:05. > :07:08.though is because it sort of translates what seems sometimes like

:07:09. > :07:13.a theoretical risk into reality. I mean, this is happening. It doesn't

:07:14. > :07:17.happen daily, at least not in developed countries, but it is

:07:18. > :07:20.happening and it is going to continue to happen, and at

:07:21. > :07:26.escalating rates. Is there any concern that, you know,

:07:27. > :07:30.the bacteria could have transferred from that woman in the US hospital

:07:31. > :07:35.treatment centres that she was being cared for's sure, that would

:07:36. > :07:41.obviously always be a concern. The hospital seems to have got very

:07:42. > :07:45.quickly that she had a multidrug resistant bacteria, and they are

:07:46. > :07:51.slipped her, and health care team that worked on her used what are

:07:52. > :07:55.called contact precautions, they were wearing gowns and gloves, and

:07:56. > :08:01.they had to obviously washed their hands going out of her room. They

:08:02. > :08:05.have tested the health care workers, they have tested people who were in

:08:06. > :08:10.parts of a hospital near her, so far there is no evidence of the bug's

:08:11. > :08:13.spreading, but experts are saying it is only a matter of time before we

:08:14. > :08:20.see more of these bugs in our hospitals.

:08:21. > :08:23.A newborn girl stolen 18 years ago from a hospital in the US state

:08:24. > :08:25.of Florida has been found alive in South Carolina.

:08:26. > :08:28.Kamiyah Mobley's biological family was notified of the news after DNA

:08:29. > :08:38.A woman has been arrested in connection with the abduction.

:08:39. > :08:46.In the interest of reducing any further trial to this young woman, I

:08:47. > :08:51.am not revealing her name. Please remember this young woman was

:08:52. > :08:55.abducted as a newborn, and she will need time and assistance to process

:08:56. > :08:59.all of this, and we are respecting her privacy and I ask her to do the

:09:00. > :09:02.same. She had an inclination, beginning a couple of months ago

:09:03. > :09:07.probably, that she may have been involved in this in some way, so we

:09:08. > :09:14.were able to deliver that to her today. And again, she is taking it

:09:15. > :09:16.as well as you could imagine but she has a lot to process. She has a lot

:09:17. > :09:20.to think about is you can imagine. Peter Bowes is in

:09:21. > :09:30.Los Angeles for us. Peter, do we know how the police

:09:31. > :09:34.tracked this woman down? No, we don't. That is the key piece of

:09:35. > :09:39.information that we don't have yet, but it is an extraordinary series of

:09:40. > :09:45.events, that we are learning about, going back to 1998, July of that

:09:46. > :09:50.year, when this then Ed-year-old -- eight hour old baby was stolen from

:09:51. > :09:54.a hospital. A woman apparently posed as a nurse, and she said that the

:09:55. > :09:58.child had to be taken away for some treatment because she had a fever.

:09:59. > :10:03.She was taken out of the ward away from her mother and never seen

:10:04. > :10:06.since. There was a huge search at the time, there was extensive media

:10:07. > :10:12.coverage here in the United States, there was a quarter of $1 million

:10:13. > :10:16.award for any information leading to what has now happened, and that is a

:10:17. > :10:21.tip off that she was apparently living with a woman in South

:10:22. > :10:26.Carolina. The woman itself, who's now grown up

:10:27. > :10:32.of course, is not being named as we have there. Very understandably.

:10:33. > :10:36.That's right, she has been known today by her original name, the one

:10:37. > :10:40.that she was given by her family, but we have no other details, and as

:10:41. > :10:45.we've just heard from the police officer there, she has a lot to take

:10:46. > :10:50.in, this woman, realising that her identity was completely different,

:10:51. > :10:54.apparently something has happened, whether it's the tip of or some

:10:55. > :10:57.other information, that made her a little suspicious over the last few

:10:58. > :11:02.months, and then presumably agreed to the DNA test. And the test has

:11:03. > :11:06.just come back and it has confirmed her true identity. As far as we can

:11:07. > :11:12.gather there has been no reunion yet with her family, and that the

:11:13. > :11:16.police, because she is now an adult, say it is now off to her in terms of

:11:17. > :11:20.the circumstances precisely when that happens. How come the police

:11:21. > :11:26.are still working on this? Obviously it was a long time ago. It was, but

:11:27. > :11:33.it was an unsolved case and this is a case of a mother and a family not

:11:34. > :11:38.giving up hope. Over the years some 2000 plus Leeds, tips, were sent

:11:39. > :11:41.into the police and they were investigated, and over the years the

:11:42. > :11:45.tapes were different, and up until as loosely as a couple of years ago

:11:46. > :11:50.police were looking into new information. So this wasn't a cold

:11:51. > :11:54.case, this was still a case that was being actively investigated. Peter,

:11:55. > :12:05.we will wait to find out more. Thanks very much for now. French

:12:06. > :12:08.authorities have launched an investigation into car-maker Renault

:12:09. > :12:13.over allegations they attempted to cheat at this -- emission tests. The

:12:14. > :12:19.companies share price dipped 4% as a result. Earlier this week Volkswagen

:12:20. > :12:24.agree to pay fines for cheating similar test. Pressure is mounting

:12:25. > :12:29.on the Gambia's president to speak down. He lost the December election

:12:30. > :12:36.but has refused to relinquish power. The delegation of West African

:12:37. > :12:42.leaders has arrived to try to resolve the issue before next week's

:12:43. > :12:48.inauguration ceremony. -- Labour's former Education Secretary Tristram

:12:49. > :12:49.Hunt is standing down as an MP, but says his differences with Jeremy

:12:50. > :12:57.Corbyn are in the past. He is the second Labour MP to resign

:12:58. > :13:02.in recent weeks. Stay with us here. Much more ahead. All the sport,

:13:03. > :13:06.including the latest on Diego Costa, who has been left out of the Chelsea

:13:07. > :13:07.squad for this year -- this weekend's match after a dispute over

:13:08. > :13:27.his fitness. The industry is nervous of this

:13:28. > :13:32.report, this may tend to make people want to stop smoking cigarettes.

:13:33. > :13:36.There is not a street that is unaffected. Huge parts were simply

:13:37. > :13:40.demolished as buildings crashed into one another. This woman said she had

:13:41. > :13:45.been given no help and no advice by the authorities. She stood outside

:13:46. > :13:49.the ruins of her business. Tens of thousands of black children in South

:13:50. > :13:53.Africa have taken advantage of laws passed by the country's new

:13:54. > :13:58.multiracial Government, and enrolled at formerly white schools.

:13:59. > :14:05.Tonight sees the 9610th performance of the mousetrap. The management

:14:06. > :14:08.considered whether to cancel tonight's performance, but Agatha

:14:09. > :14:13.Christie would have been the last person to want such a thing.

:14:14. > :14:20.This is BBC World News Today. The latest headlines:

:14:21. > :14:24.Donald Trump has once again hit out at the intelligence community,

:14:25. > :14:29.blaming them for releasing allegations linking him with Russia.

:14:30. > :14:35.A woman has died in the US from an infection which ripped -- resisted

:14:36. > :14:43.all available antibiotics. Disease control experts have told -- called

:14:44. > :14:48.it and "Nightmare back bacteria." -- nightmare bacteria.

:14:49. > :14:51.More than 65 people have died as a result of icy storms

:14:52. > :14:55.Snow and strong winds have hit much of the UK; severe flood warnings

:14:56. > :14:57.are now in place on the eastern coast of England with

:14:58. > :15:00.In Scotland, heavy snowfall has caused 19 schools

:15:01. > :15:09.In France, power cuts have affected more than 237,000 homes as a storm

:15:10. > :15:11.swept across Normandy and regions north of Paris.

:15:12. > :15:14.And in Germany, wind and snow forced the airline Lufthansa to cancel 125

:15:15. > :15:17.Well, the sudden cold snap is severely affecting

:15:18. > :15:20.The United Nations refugee agency is urging governments to do more.

:15:21. > :15:22.The UNHCR said several migrants had died from cold

:15:23. > :15:25.and exhaustion in Bulgaria, and it called on Greece to move

:15:26. > :15:27.migrants from poor conditions on islands to better facilities

:15:28. > :15:36.Our correspondent Sian Grzeszczyk reports.

:15:37. > :15:38.Desperate to get out of the bitterly cold waters,

:15:39. > :15:40.these are just some of the 800 migrants and refugees

:15:41. > :15:51.that were rescued from the Mediterranean Sea yesterday.

:15:52. > :15:57.The Italian coastguard helped them out of the six rubber boats

:15:58. > :16:01.Freezing temperatures in Europe over the last week have caused the UN

:16:02. > :16:03.to call on governments to do more to help migrants.

:16:04. > :16:09.In Greece, the situation was so bad that this ship was sent

:16:10. > :16:13.to Lesbos, at the request of the Greek Prime Minister, to house

:16:14. > :16:15.migrants amidst health warnings that condition at the main camp

:16:16. > :16:23.Hundreds of others in Lesbos are being transferred to hotels.

:16:24. > :16:25.I am afraid, but I don't know where I go.

:16:26. > :16:29.At the European Parliament in Brussels, a warning about how

:16:30. > :16:35.prepared the EU is for a further increase in numbers.

:16:36. > :16:37.We are making a call for Europe to prepare

:16:38. > :16:47.It may not happen, but we need to be prepared.

:16:48. > :16:50.We are very concerned that in a number of situations,

:16:51. > :16:53.Europe does not seem to have a plan A or plan B.

:16:54. > :16:57.Conditions are also tough at this migrant camp in Serbia.

:16:58. > :17:00.More than 1,000 men from Afghanistan and Pakistan are relying on one meal

:17:01. > :17:02.a day from volunteers, and having to wash outside

:17:03. > :17:10.Concern is growing that more migrants will die, trying to survive

:17:11. > :17:21.Hugh Ferris has all the sport for us.

:17:22. > :17:29.It's the latest drama with Diego Costa, who's been left out of the

:17:30. > :17:32.Chelsea squad for the match at Leicester on Saturday, after a

:17:33. > :17:39.dispute with the club's coaching staff. He's got 14 goals so far this

:17:40. > :17:46.season, and he is thought to have been the subject of a lucrative

:17:47. > :17:51.offer from a Chinese club. It seems as though, after a period of

:17:52. > :17:56.relative calm in Diego Costa's combustible career, that the start

:17:57. > :18:00.of this week he started to have disagreements with a particular

:18:01. > :18:05.member of the Chelsea coaching staff, and that has escalated to a

:18:06. > :18:09.point where his manager has decided to leave him basically out of the

:18:10. > :18:16.squad, didn't travel to Leicester, he's not going to play at Leicester.

:18:17. > :18:20.The key point is, what is behind the issues? And some people are

:18:21. > :18:26.suggesting that big offers, big, big offers that cost -- Costa seems to

:18:27. > :18:32.be at the centre of, which are coming from China, where other

:18:33. > :18:40.players have gone, they might be at the bottom of Diego Costa's anger at

:18:41. > :18:42.the moment. Birds a different dispute

:18:43. > :18:46.threatening to overshadow the beginning of the Africa cup of

:18:47. > :18:50.Nations. The DDR Congo squad boycotted the training session on

:18:51. > :18:56.Friday before their opening match of the tournament. They -- the players

:18:57. > :18:59.explained the boycott is over bonus payments. They are saying this has

:19:00. > :19:04.been happened from -- happening for years and years, and that they

:19:05. > :19:09.always prepare well but in the end there is always a problem with

:19:10. > :19:13.bonuses. They are Congo play Morocco on Monday, the tournament starts on

:19:14. > :19:24.Saturday, the 31st Africa cup of Nations is being hosted in Gabon.

:19:25. > :19:28.Every two years, Africa's top 16 national sides battle it up to

:19:29. > :19:33.become the continent's top team. This year, the battle ground is

:19:34. > :19:36.Gabon. Five years after this small oil-rich Central African country

:19:37. > :19:41.last hosted the tournament, football is back on the fans are excited. But

:19:42. > :19:47.preparations have been slow. Just a few days ago this was the state of

:19:48. > :19:51.the entrance into the stadium. It will host group C matches and at

:19:52. > :19:58.least 1/4-final. The slow pace of work has not dampened the spirits of

:19:59. > :20:02.the people, led by President Ali Bongo. As in tournaments past, once

:20:03. > :20:06.the action starts, most of the problems tend to be forgotten.

:20:07. > :20:12.Defending champions Ivory coast are still one of the favourites to win

:20:13. > :20:15.the term and, despite being without their once talismanic captain Yaya

:20:16. > :20:22.Toure, who announced his retirement last year. They are in group C

:20:23. > :20:26.alongside Congo, Morocco and Togo. Gabon may not boast the most

:20:27. > :20:31.talented squad, but you discount Africa's most prolific striker at

:20:32. > :20:37.the moment that your own peril. They are in group A, alongside 2013

:20:38. > :20:41.finalists Burkina Faso, four time winners Cameron and newcomers

:20:42. > :20:48.Guinea-Bissau. Senegal post the continent's most expensive player;

:20:49. > :20:53.they are in group B alongside Algeria, Tunisia and Zimbabwe. Ghana

:20:54. > :20:57.are always in the running to win, despite not having lifted the trophy

:20:58. > :21:03.since 1982. A different country has won the last four nations cups.

:21:04. > :21:06.Gabon is known as the land of the storytellers, but whose legend will

:21:07. > :21:14.be the tail to be told by the end of this tournament? -- the story to be

:21:15. > :21:22.told. Always very exciting, that's all the sport for now. Here in the

:21:23. > :21:26.UK, police in Great Yarmouth and Norfolk say -- and Norfolk say

:21:27. > :21:30.thousands of people are refusing to leave their homes, despite advice to

:21:31. > :21:35.evacuate because of severe -- the threat of severe flooding. Snow and
