:00:17. > :00:18.in the United States to President Trump's

:00:19. > :00:25.The British Prime Minister tells her ministers to raise

:00:26. > :00:26.concerns with their American counterparts about

:00:27. > :00:32.The Socialist Party in France has chosen a politician from the left

:00:33. > :00:36.to be its candidate in this year's presidential election.

:00:37. > :00:39.And a sweet moment for Roger Federer.

:00:40. > :00:44.He wins an epic five-set match to claim his 18th Grand Slam

:00:45. > :01:05.16 US state attorneys general - some of the country's

:01:06. > :01:07.chief legal advisors - have condemned an executive order

:01:08. > :01:11.from President Trump restricting immigration from seven mainly

:01:12. > :01:15.They say the move is unconstitutional,

:01:16. > :01:19.The Attorneys General said in a joint statement

:01:20. > :01:22.they were confident the order would be struck down by the courts.

:01:23. > :01:28.One federal judge has temporarily halted

:01:29. > :01:31.Meanwhile, there's been more anger and consternation around the world.

:01:32. > :01:33.The German Chancellor Angela Merkel who has said the fight

:01:34. > :01:35.against terrorism does not justify putting people from specific

:01:36. > :01:37.backgrounds or faiths under general suspicion.

:01:38. > :01:39.The Mayor of London - Sadiq Khan, has called the ban

:01:40. > :01:41.on refugees and immigrants from certain countries

:01:42. > :01:48.The right-wing populist Dutch politician Geert Wilders tweeted:

:01:49. > :01:53."No more immigration from any Islamic country is

:01:54. > :01:57.At home, the administration has has downplayed a court ruling

:01:58. > :02:01.which temporarily rules out deporting people who have already

:02:02. > :02:09.arrived, saying it only applies to a small number of people.

:02:10. > :02:17.Meanwhile, angry protests continue around the country.

:02:18. > :02:21.Protest is becoming a permanent feature of the Trump presidency.

:02:22. > :02:24.And at JFK Airport last night the demonstrations lasted deep

:02:25. > :02:32.New York has always been the great gateway into America.

:02:33. > :02:35.The protesters believe the executive order flies

:02:36. > :02:47.Demonstrations took place across the country, these are scenes

:02:48. > :02:51.in Boston as a US senator defied the US president.

:02:52. > :02:57.I knew Donald Trump would be bad but, boy, not this

:02:58. > :03:05.At this courthouse in Brooklyn came a late night legal challenge

:03:06. > :03:08.and civil liberties lawyers emerged claiming a victory.

:03:09. > :03:12.As the federal judge temporarily blocked part of the executive order.

:03:13. > :03:16.If President Trump enacts laws or executive orders

:03:17. > :03:19.that are unconstitutional, and illegal, the courts are

:03:20. > :03:24.What started as a protest outside this courthouse in Brooklyn has now

:03:25. > :03:31.At the arrivals hall at Dallas Airport outside

:03:32. > :03:41.A Muslim woman from Iraq finally making it back into the country.

:03:42. > :03:46.All of a sudden I get a call telling me they are detaining my wife

:03:47. > :03:51.who is a green card holder, legal resident in this country.

:03:52. > :03:53.But, despite the court ruling and others making it

:03:54. > :03:56.through immigration, the Department of Homeland Security

:03:57. > :04:00.said it would continue to enforce the executive order.

:04:01. > :04:02.Prior to the court ruling, President Trump expressed

:04:03. > :04:05.satisfaction about how his ban was being implemented.

:04:06. > :04:08.It's working out very nicely and we are going

:04:09. > :04:13.strict ban and extreme vetting which we should have had in this

:04:14. > :04:27.And this morning he doubled down on Twitter.

:04:28. > :04:29.These Syrians thought their US visas offered them

:04:30. > :04:34.But this Christian family of eight was refused entry at Philadelphia

:04:35. > :04:40.airport and forced to fly back to Beirut.

:04:41. > :04:43.TRANSLATION: My son has been in America three years,

:04:44. > :04:45.and they did not even let me call him.

:04:46. > :04:50.They'd spent all their money on the plane tickets

:04:51. > :04:55.and seen their American dreams eradicated with the stroke of a pen.

:04:56. > :05:16.We can go live to New York. Protesters against this executive

:05:17. > :05:20.order that was signed on Friday and we have seen a weekend of protests

:05:21. > :05:25.with increasing numbers of voices from across the political and legal

:05:26. > :05:34.spectrum coming out against these new restrictions. We can speak to

:05:35. > :05:39.our correspondent at JFK airport. Just tell us what you have seen this

:05:40. > :05:45.how people are being affected by this executive order. There is a

:05:46. > :05:50.growing number of protesters who have come here to demonstrate

:05:51. > :05:54.against what they see as President from's Muslim ban, but inside the

:05:55. > :05:59.terminal more than 20 people have been detained since this order was

:06:00. > :06:04.signed on Friday. Among them relatives of people who are active

:06:05. > :06:07.members of the US military, who have come here to protest at the

:06:08. > :06:15.treatment of their relatives. There was also someone who had worked for

:06:16. > :06:20.the United States military in Iraq who was detained and then released,

:06:21. > :06:24.a Yemeni grandmother with diabetes, an elderly Somali man who was met by

:06:25. > :06:31.his son. These are the kinds of people who have been caught up in

:06:32. > :06:35.this and there are about 40 volunteer lawyers inside terminal

:06:36. > :06:41.four, many of them work for corporate law firms but they have

:06:42. > :06:46.come here to volunteer their services to provide legal

:06:47. > :06:51.representation for those detained and as of now, there are six people

:06:52. > :06:59.detained. I don't know whether you have seen the Foreign Office

:07:00. > :07:02.statement here. It basically has clarified that the order does not

:07:03. > :07:10.necessarily affect those coming from the UK. In practical terms, we are

:07:11. > :07:13.hearing all sorts of stories of people travelling from different

:07:14. > :07:20.parts of the world, is there any sense of clarity about what

:07:21. > :07:25.officials should be following? It is completely confused. Amongst those

:07:26. > :07:29.detained are people who are legal, permanent residence of the United

:07:30. > :07:35.States, green card holders. They have mostly been Iranian Americans

:07:36. > :07:40.who have been abroad for a variety of reasons. One is a student here on

:07:41. > :07:45.Rhode Island and she returned here and was detained. The administration

:07:46. > :07:48.already on talk shows walking back and saying this is not supposed to

:07:49. > :08:02.apply to holders of green cards. In the UK, there has been a lot of

:08:03. > :08:06.reaction to the migrant ban and there is a petition on the

:08:07. > :08:10.Parliament website saying President Trump should not be allowed the

:08:11. > :08:16.privilege of a state visit when he comes to the UK because it would

:08:17. > :08:21.embarrass the Queen. In less than a date it has gained nearly 700,000

:08:22. > :08:22.signatures meaning it could be considered for a debate in

:08:23. > :08:27.Parliament. In the last hour, the latest advice

:08:28. > :08:30.from the British Foreign Office is that the US Presidential

:08:31. > :08:32.executive order only applies to individuals travelling from one

:08:33. > :08:35.of the seven named countries and not To get more clarification on this

:08:36. > :08:41.statement, we're joined by our correspondent,

:08:42. > :08:55.Richard Lister. We have had a lot of coverage today

:08:56. > :09:00.of Mo Farah and also a British MP. This clarification, does it make

:09:01. > :09:08.things clear because it seems to be contrary to what we have heard? It

:09:09. > :09:12.is certainly good news for Mo Farah, but basically the Foreign and

:09:13. > :09:15.Commonwealth Office has put on its website a statement saying the

:09:16. > :09:21.Foreign Secretary has had conversations with the US government

:09:22. > :09:26.and they can clarify that anybody who is a UK national who happens to

:09:27. > :09:32.be travelling from one of the seven countries targeted by this executive

:09:33. > :09:37.order, anybody who is doing that who is a UK national, and the order does

:09:38. > :09:42.not apply to you even if you were born in one of those countries so UK

:09:43. > :09:49.nationals seem to be given a pass. If you are a dealer citizens of one

:09:50. > :09:54.of those countries, travelling to the US from outside those countries,

:09:55. > :10:01.the order does not apply to you. Mo Farah is a dual nationality Somali

:10:02. > :10:06.citizen. He is training in Ethiopian and he was concerned he would not

:10:07. > :10:11.get back to the US which is currently his home base. His family

:10:12. > :10:16.are there but if the Foreign Office is to be believed, he will be able

:10:17. > :10:20.to do that because he is not travelling to the US from one of

:10:21. > :10:26.those countries affected. What about those who have come from one of the

:10:27. > :10:33.countries named, but if they come to London for a night, and start a

:10:34. > :10:38.fresh journey, will they not be affected? There was the case of an

:10:39. > :10:47.Iraqi family who travelled through Cairo. They were turned back. They

:10:48. > :10:51.could argue, according to this advice, that they were travelling

:10:52. > :10:55.from Cairo but their journey originated in Iraq and so therefore

:10:56. > :11:00.they were turned back. The real problem is there is not a great deal

:11:01. > :11:04.of clarity about how these rules are being interpreted around the world

:11:05. > :11:11.and even the Trump administration seems to be backtracking that it

:11:12. > :11:15.said earlier this week. Again we are seeking clarification from the White

:11:16. > :11:19.House. That will come in the next few hours hopefully. Do stay with

:11:20. > :11:32.us. More ahead. The Socialist party in France makes

:11:33. > :12:40.is choice but does he stand a chance in the presidential election?

:12:41. > :12:43.Political and legal opposition is growing in the United States

:12:44. > :12:45.to President Trump's order to prevent the entry

:12:46. > :12:56.of refugees and citizens of seven Muslim countries.

:12:57. > :13:01.And the British government has been talking about British exemptions to

:13:02. > :13:05.the travel ban. A former education minister,

:13:06. > :13:07.Benoit Hamon, has won Sunday's run-off to be

:13:08. > :13:09.the French Socialist Party's The hard left politician

:13:10. > :13:12.was comfortably beating his rival the former Prime Minister,

:13:13. > :13:14.Manuel Valls, who conceded before With 60% of votes counted,

:13:15. > :13:18.Mr Benoit had just over Philippe Marliere is a lecturer

:13:19. > :13:26.in French and European politics at University College,

:13:27. > :13:39.London. Tell us about Benoit Hamon and does

:13:40. > :13:46.he have a chance to become president? It is a mountain to climb

:13:47. > :13:50.because they are so behind in the polls of the Socialist party which

:13:51. > :13:58.reflects how popular the government has been. This victory might turn a

:13:59. > :14:02.little bit the game, but also it will vitalise the left which has

:14:03. > :14:09.been clearly nonexistent and in disarray. I think his chance is to

:14:10. > :14:14.do that, try to unify the different segments of the left. First of all,

:14:15. > :14:22.his own party, which will not be easy because the right-wing might be

:14:23. > :14:30.tempted to look to the centre with the other candidates, but also on

:14:31. > :14:37.the left of the Socialist party, there is another candidate who is

:14:38. > :14:42.ahead. A difficult task for him to unify the left, make sure it does

:14:43. > :14:49.not lose too many votes in the centre. But at least the Socialist

:14:50. > :14:55.party gives itself a chance to at least not to get a crushing defeat.

:14:56. > :15:03.The fear of all moderates is that a Le Pen victory. I don't think it

:15:04. > :15:13.will impact much on her eventual victory as you say. I think you

:15:14. > :15:19.would have to look at Phil on who is in trouble for other reasons. It is

:15:20. > :15:28.an incredible race, full of upsets and surprises. He is accused of

:15:29. > :15:31.various things to do with his wife. This antiestablishment mood that we

:15:32. > :15:37.are seeing all over the world, how does this play into having a new,

:15:38. > :15:46.very left wing leader for the Socialist, very right wing popular

:15:47. > :15:58.leader. The main party, centre left, centre right... Don't inspire

:15:59. > :16:03.confidence and are not supported. Mac ron is doing well but he is a

:16:04. > :16:08.lonely man. He does not have a proper party behind him. He tries to

:16:09. > :16:16.get votes from the centre-left but he is in the centre so he will not

:16:17. > :16:18.make it to the second round. Benoit Hamon's victory changes the

:16:19. > :16:24.situation. At least there is someone to represent the values of the left,

:16:25. > :16:31.something a number of voters, those who voted for Francois Hollande had

:16:32. > :16:33.the lowest hope in this party. I think they can come back and support

:16:34. > :16:38.this party. Thank you. A US special forces raid

:16:39. > :16:40.against Al Qaeda in Yemen, authorised by President Trump,

:16:41. > :16:43.has killed at least fourteen The raid targeted the houses

:16:44. > :16:46.of three tribal chiefs linked In Myanmar, a leading member

:16:47. > :16:56.of the governing National League for Democracy has been shot dead

:16:57. > :16:58.at Yangon airport. Ko Ni, was a prominent Muslim member

:16:59. > :17:01.of Aung San Suu Kyi's party. A suspect has been detained

:17:02. > :17:04.but there's no further information Reports say 25 Chinese

:17:05. > :17:12.nationals on board a missing Malaysian boat have

:17:13. > :17:14.been found alive. But as many as six people

:17:15. > :17:16.are still missing. Malaysian naval ships

:17:17. > :17:19.and an aircraft have been searching for the vessel in a large sea area

:17:20. > :17:36.off the coast of Borneo. Hundreds of protesters are still

:17:37. > :17:41.demonstrating against those new orders, that executive order from

:17:42. > :17:49.President Trump on trying to restrict migration. We have heard

:17:50. > :17:54.about the kind of international condemnation that this refugee ban

:17:55. > :18:06.is attracting. What will be long-term consequences be on US

:18:07. > :18:13.foreign relations? First of all, we are seeing massive opposition, the

:18:14. > :18:19.attorneys general saying this is unconstitutional. Will this

:18:20. > :18:24.policyholder? President trumpeted is determined to implement the policy

:18:25. > :18:28.unless Republican senators organise against it, there is little

:18:29. > :18:31.difference protests can make but there is clearly outraged across the

:18:32. > :18:36.country not only to this but to others in the past week. What will

:18:37. > :18:43.be the impact on foreign relations with other countries we have seen?

:18:44. > :18:51.There is immense concerned that this will backfire and radicalised

:18:52. > :18:57.opposition? This order invites violence targeting US citizens, US

:18:58. > :19:01.interests. Clearly the world is appalled at the Islamophobia that is

:19:02. > :19:06.behind this executive order and there's a real risk of a violent

:19:07. > :19:19.backlash against the United States. Why has Saudi, Qatar and other Sunni

:19:20. > :19:22.states, citizens of those countries have been involved in

:19:23. > :19:29.radicalisation, why have they not been involved? It is curious. Those

:19:30. > :19:37.happen to be countries where Trump has business interests. I wonder if

:19:38. > :19:46.there is any link. When you say this is going to have a", some will say

:19:47. > :19:50.President Trump is saying, voicing a concern that many have around the

:19:51. > :19:58.world which is about security and he is taking action that is going to be

:19:59. > :20:03.popular. It is legitimate to have security concerns, but this idea of

:20:04. > :20:08.extreme betting is not new. Prior to the executive action, the vetting

:20:09. > :20:15.process was very intense. It would take an applicant to come here under

:20:16. > :20:19.the asylum programme or as a refugee 18-24 months to be approved. It is

:20:20. > :20:25.nothing new that can be done on the betting side. What is being done

:20:26. > :20:31.here is security is being used as an excuse to justify chauvinism and

:20:32. > :20:41.Islamophobia. How do you think it will in practical terms, have

:20:42. > :20:46.impacts on big countries like Iran? Seven countries listed here. We are

:20:47. > :20:51.hearing that Canada will provide temporary shelter to people stranded

:20:52. > :20:57.as a result of the tops order but a number of countries, how will it

:20:58. > :21:01.affect direct relations with the US? These countries will take reciprocal

:21:02. > :21:12.measures. Iran has said that if nationals are not able to travel to

:21:13. > :21:21.the US, they will do similar. This is going to have a ripple effect

:21:22. > :21:29.across... Sorry, they sound just breaking up. But thank you for

:21:30. > :21:41.speaking to us. Let's move on and catch up with some of the sport now.

:21:42. > :21:46.Big day in tennis. Roger Federer says he had never thought he would

:21:47. > :21:53.make it back to a grand slam final but he has picked up his 18th title.

:21:54. > :21:55.He spent the past six months on the sidelines with injury but he

:21:56. > :22:02.overcame Rafa Nadal in a thrilling final. I don't think either one of

:22:03. > :22:07.us believed we would be in the final was when we saw each other at the

:22:08. > :22:14.Academy five, four months ago and here we stand in the finals. Tennis

:22:15. > :22:18.is a tough sport, there are no draws but if there was one, I would be

:22:19. > :22:28.happy to accept one tonight and accept it with Rafa. It could not

:22:29. > :22:37.happen here, but it can happen on clay if I am able to play like this,

:22:38. > :22:46.hold matches like this and recover well... Opponents will not get that

:22:47. > :22:51.many free points and I am playing solely from the baseline, if I make

:22:52. > :23:00.that happen, I think I can have success on hard courts.

:23:01. > :23:02.Three more shocks in the English FA Cup on Sunday.

:23:03. > :23:04.But Manchester United are through to the last 16

:23:05. > :23:09.for Jose Mourinho's side - the manager made nine

:23:10. > :23:12.Chris Smalling made it 2-0 following a cross

:23:13. > :23:14.from Anthony Martial, who set up Henrikh Mkhitaryan

:23:15. > :23:19.But the big story coming out of Old Trafford

:23:20. > :23:21.was Bastian Schweinsteiger who marked his first

:23:22. > :23:24.Manchester United start for a year with a goal and an assist

:23:25. > :23:38.We deserved to win. The first half was not very good but we managed to

:23:39. > :23:46.be won- zero in front and then at half-time we spoke about changing a

:23:47. > :23:52.few things, the boys accepted it well and the second half was much

:23:53. > :23:56.better. We deserved to win, the job was done and we are in the last 16.

:23:57. > :23:59.Championship side Fulham pulled off an upset as they thrashed Hull City

:24:00. > :24:01.at Craven Cottage to progress to the fifth round.

:24:02. > :24:03.Afterwards the Hull boss Marco Silva said Fulham

:24:04. > :24:07.deserved to win the game - we have a lot of problems to solve

:24:08. > :24:11.with our team playing a lot of games in a row.

:24:12. > :24:17.Sutton United - a non-league club - have beaten Leeds United.

:24:18. > :24:24.Watford were also beaten 1-0 away at Millwall.

:24:25. > :24:27.Ghana are through to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations...

:24:28. > :24:30.The Black Stars beat DR Congo thanks to a late penalty from Andre Ayew.

:24:31. > :24:35.Andre's brother Jordan had opened the scoring before

:24:36. > :24:47.Ghana will now face Cameroon in the semi-finals.

:24:48. > :24:55.Those semi-finals on Wednesday and Thursday next week.

:24:56. > :24:57.Leo Santa Cruz beat Carl Frampton to win the WBA

:24:58. > :25:06.It was a rematch of their bout from last year which

:25:07. > :25:24.Frampton said he was surprised by Leo's ability to box on the back

:25:25. > :25:36.foot. He won on two rounds on two of the judges scorecards. Frampton is

:25:37. > :25:40.adamant that next time round he wants to fight in Belfast because

:25:41. > :25:44.his fans have now travelled here to the USA three times in a row but the

:25:45. > :25:50.pull of the casinos and the money here in Vegas means that those

:25:51. > :25:52.negotiations for the trilogy fight might be as feverish as the contest

:25:53. > :25:58.we saw here. That is it for the programme.

:25:59. > :26:17.Goodbye. The weather was very split today.

:26:18. > :26:23.Sunshine across Scotland, heavy rain in the south. The week ahead very

:26:24. > :26:29.unsettled. Potentially turning very windy towards the end of the week.

:26:30. > :26:33.Lots of weather fronts and areas of low pressure starting to develop out

:26:34. > :26:39.on the Atlantic. The clouds are racing our way. One area of rain

:26:40. > :26:46.clears away, tonight we have another one heading in our direction and

:26:47. > :26:50.reaching Cornwall by the morning. Scotland a different story, clear
