:00:00. > :00:07.broadcasting in the UK and around the world.

:00:08. > :00:13.The headlines: The US Vice President gives a full commitment to NATO

:00:14. > :00:19.While the Russian foreign minister - announces

:00:20. > :00:23.a new ceasefire for Ukraine - due to start on Monday.

:00:24. > :00:30.President Trump gets ready for a campaign-style rally in Florida.

:00:31. > :00:34.We'll be asking what that means A huge storm over California brings

:00:35. > :00:40.flooding and high winds, triggering some massive sinkholes.

:00:41. > :00:45.Another arrest in Malaysia in connection with the murder

:00:46. > :00:51.of Kim Jong Nam - the half-brother of North Korea's leader.

:00:52. > :00:59.Non-league Lincoln City beat Premier League team Burnley.

:01:00. > :01:19.The UN says it is a conflict that has claimed more

:01:20. > :01:26.Now, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has announced

:01:27. > :01:30.a new ceasefire between Ukraine and Russian-backed separatists.

:01:31. > :01:32.He was speaking after a meeting with his Ukrainian, German

:01:33. > :01:46.and French counterparts at the Munich Security Conference.

:01:47. > :01:54.The contact group agreed the ceasefire would start and their

:01:55. > :01:59.withdrawal of heavy military hardware will begin.

:02:00. > :02:00.But optimism might be in short supply.

:02:01. > :02:02.Earlier the Ukrainian Foreign Minister told reporters he was "not

:02:03. > :02:05.at all" happy with the outcome of the same meeting.

:02:06. > :02:08.It was the latest in a series of highly anticipated events -

:02:09. > :02:10.the day started with an assurance to Nato allies by US

:02:11. > :02:13.Vice President Mike Pence that America would be unwavering

:02:14. > :02:37.A show of strength to counter what many see as a growing

:02:38. > :02:40.Massive deployment of US military might in Europe underlines how

:02:41. > :02:43.America has been the predominant power in Nato since the end

:02:44. > :02:47.Now there is a US president who has called this alliance obsolete.

:02:48. > :02:49.So, at this Munich Forum, anticipation and anxiety

:02:50. > :02:52.about what message President Trump's deputy would bring here.

:02:53. > :02:57.What we were most looking for were the messages coming out

:02:58. > :03:00.from the leading members of President Trump's team,

:03:01. > :03:06.Everyone says they have been reassured by what he had to say

:03:07. > :03:10.about the transatlantic alliance and the belief in Nato.

:03:11. > :03:13.There is so much relief here about what you had to say,

:03:14. > :03:16.doesn't that make you worry that Europe was worried about your

:03:17. > :03:19.commitment to the transatlantic alliance and to Nato?

:03:20. > :03:24.I think President Trump has made it clear that the United States stands

:03:25. > :03:25.strongly with the North Atlantic Alliance.

:03:26. > :03:31.But the president has also made it clear that we expect our allies

:03:32. > :03:34.to keep their word, to live up to the commitments they have made

:03:35. > :03:39.There was a clear message on Ukraine, too - a call to Russia

:03:40. > :03:46.It was not what Russia's top diplomat wanted to hear in Munich.

:03:47. > :03:50.Sergei Lavrov accused the West of being stuck

:03:51. > :03:58.TRANSLATION: The historic period that can be called the post-Cold War

:03:59. > :04:03.The main result, in our view, has been the failure

:04:04. > :04:09.As leaders come and go in Munich, there seems to be greater

:04:10. > :04:11.clarity this transatlantic friendship will hold.

:04:12. > :04:21.Real proof is yet to come in what happens on the ground.

:04:22. > :04:23.Well coming up later in the programme -

:04:24. > :04:26.Lyse has been speaking to the former US Secretary of State -

:04:27. > :04:42.To get her views on the Trump administration.

:04:43. > :04:50.To Florida, where he is about to hold a campaign rally. The White

:04:51. > :04:56.House has said the president will speak directly to the American

:04:57. > :05:00.people, it is unusual for one to hold a rally so soon after coming

:05:01. > :05:06.into office. Let's speak to David Willis. What does the White House

:05:07. > :05:12.mean by campaign style rally? Well, you can read into this what you

:05:13. > :05:17.will. At face value, this is part of his campaign, would you believe, for

:05:18. > :05:22.2020, for real action. At I think more relevant late, this is a way

:05:23. > :05:29.for the Donald Trump to promote his own version of events over the last

:05:30. > :05:32.four weeks. Those four weeks having been channelled jewellers, we have

:05:33. > :05:41.seen protests, we have seen leaks, we have seen unfavourable court

:05:42. > :05:45.decisions. He insisted at a press conference the other day that

:05:46. > :05:51.everything is going swimmingly that is not the way it has been dipping

:05:52. > :05:56.it in the media, and that is why Mr Trump is taking aim at the mass

:05:57. > :06:01.media. He went on Twitter last night to say that they were the enemy of

:06:02. > :06:04.the American people, as he put it. Part of the appeal of going out on

:06:05. > :06:11.the sort of campaign rallies is that he gets buoyed up by the crowds, it

:06:12. > :06:15.energises him, and it enables him to deliver his message directly to the

:06:16. > :06:20.people who voted for him and put him in the White House. He does indeed

:06:21. > :06:25.seem to enjoy these rallies. Stay with us a moment because the

:06:26. > :06:29.American woman who was at the centre of the US Supreme Court ruling which

:06:30. > :06:36.legalised abortion in America has died. Norma McCorvey was known under

:06:37. > :06:42.the pseudonym James wrote when she took legal action to terminate

:06:43. > :06:49.pregnancy. She later waived her right to anonymity and became an

:06:50. > :06:55.anti-abortion campaigner. Norma McCorvey died at an assisted living

:06:56. > :07:05.Centre in Texas. David, how is this news being taken over there? It is

:07:06. > :07:09.very interesting because Norma McCorvey is not a name that a lot of

:07:10. > :07:13.people know here in the United States but she was part of one of

:07:14. > :07:20.the most landmark court cases in modern history. She was 22 at the

:07:21. > :07:24.time she was unmarried and unemployed and pregnant for the

:07:25. > :07:29.third time, she wanted to have an abortion, she was living in Texas

:07:30. > :07:34.and abortion was illegal in Texas at the time so she filed a court case,

:07:35. > :07:37.little knowing that this court case would work its way all the way

:07:38. > :07:42.through the appeals court system to that highest court in the land, the

:07:43. > :07:53.US Supreme Court, where she went under the pseudonym of Jane Roe.

:07:54. > :08:00.It's basically made it unconstitutional for individual

:08:01. > :08:03.states to bad abortion. Ironically, Norma McCorvey herself went from

:08:04. > :08:10.being in favour of abortion to a very staunch opponent of it after

:08:11. > :08:16.converting to Christianity. So, she died at the age of 69 in Texas

:08:17. > :08:23.assisted living place but she will have certainly seen as having made a

:08:24. > :08:28.concern will -- a considerable mark on the history of this country.

:08:29. > :08:32.In the Gambia - Adama Barrow has been publicly sworn in as president.

:08:33. > :08:35.He was first sworn in last month in neighbouring

:08:36. > :08:38.Senegal, at the height of the country's political crisis.

:08:39. > :08:41.His predecessor, Yahya Jammeh, had refused to step down

:08:42. > :08:48.after he lost the election, but was forced into exile.

:08:49. > :08:51.A Muslim cleric who was jailed for life in America for plotting

:08:52. > :08:53.terror attacks in the 1990s has died in prison.

:08:54. > :08:59.Omar Abdel-Rahman, who was blind, was seen as having inspired

:09:00. > :09:01.the 1993 bombing attack on the World Trade Center,

:09:02. > :09:08.A train has derailed in Belgium killing one person and injuring 27.

:09:09. > :09:12.The rail operator says the passenger train was travelling from Lurr-vuhn

:09:13. > :09:17.to Brussels when it left the tracks and one of the carriages toppled.

:09:18. > :09:27.Three of the injured are reported to be in a serious condition.

:09:28. > :09:29.A fourth man has been arrested in connection

:09:30. > :09:32.to the death of Kim Jong-Nam, the half brother of North Korea's

:09:33. > :09:36.There are still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding the apparent

:09:37. > :09:39.murder at Kuala Lumpur airport last week, lets take a look

:09:40. > :11:07.We strongly urge and demand the Malaysians side not to be entangled

:11:08. > :11:14.with the political plot by the hostile forces towards the PPR

:11:15. > :11:22.Khairy who want to damage the image of our Republic, and to release the

:11:23. > :12:11.body immediately without any condition.

:12:12. > :12:20.Lots more on Kim Jong-un man on our website.

:12:21. > :12:23.Stay with us on BBC World News, still to come: Sport will look

:12:24. > :12:25.at the gold news from Australia - including an unlikely

:12:26. > :13:43.This is BBC World News Today. I'm Alpa Patel.

:13:44. > :13:45.The latest headlines: The Russian foreign minister,

:13:46. > :13:47.Sergei Lavrov, says a ceasefire between Russian-backed rebels

:13:48. > :13:50.and the Ukrainian army will come into force on Monday in eastern

:13:51. > :13:54.President Trump will be holding a campaign-style rally.

:13:55. > :13:56.The White House says - the President will speak directly

:13:57. > :14:02.Now let's return to Munich - where a Security Conference

:14:03. > :14:06.Today saw the first major foreign policy address

:14:07. > :14:09.for the Trump administration, delivered by Vice

:14:10. > :14:13.Some Nato allies had questioned President Trump's warning

:14:14. > :14:15.that the US might not uphold its commitment

:14:16. > :14:30.to former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

:14:31. > :14:37.This Munich Security Forum has been described as one of the most highly

:14:38. > :14:42.anticipated and that is largely because top Appomattox wanted to

:14:43. > :14:48.hear what messages would leading members of resident from 's team

:14:49. > :14:53.bring here. They have been reassured by statements that have come out

:14:54. > :14:57.from Vice President Mike Pence that says they value the Nato alliance

:14:58. > :15:00.and their relationships with Europe but how far did those statements

:15:01. > :15:06.going reassuring European allies here and what do they make of the

:15:07. > :15:12.emergency -- emerging policies from the US administration? Former US

:15:13. > :15:17.Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is here. Welcome to the

:15:18. > :15:22.BBC. What did they say to you here? People you have known for every long

:15:23. > :15:25.time in European and American diplomacy, how worried are they

:15:26. > :15:30.about these mixed messages coming out of Washington? I think people

:15:31. > :15:34.are glad to be at this conference because it is at a time when people

:15:35. > :15:40.are try to sort out who is thinking what, a time of uncertainty. I think

:15:41. > :15:43.they were encouraged by the words of the secretary of defence and the

:15:44. > :15:46.vice president but what they are really looking for our actions and

:15:47. > :15:52.trying to figure out also the extent to which the President of the United

:15:53. > :16:01.States is really echoing some of these words. I think it is for them

:16:02. > :16:06.to verify and that is what they are talking about. It is quite

:16:07. > :16:10.extraordinary that people feel they have to mention values that should

:16:11. > :16:15.be taken for granted by now in the world in which we live, a sort of

:16:16. > :16:17.post-World War II order, what does that tell you about the anxiety in

:16:18. > :16:23.Europe about the way things are going? I think it is interesting

:16:24. > :16:26.they mention that because I have to say there has not been enough

:16:27. > :16:32.discussion of values and benighted States. I am chairman of the board

:16:33. > :16:37.of the National Democratic Alliance that is based on the really common

:16:38. > :16:41.aspect of our basic Western values so I do wish we would talk about

:16:42. > :16:47.them more. I am glad that the Americans being asked those

:16:48. > :16:51.particular questions. We have the official administration and the

:16:52. > :16:56.members of Congress here and I think those are issues that need to be

:16:57. > :16:59.brought up. You have been hearing reassuring statements here but back

:17:00. > :17:03.home in Washington where you live, there is concern about what has been

:17:04. > :17:11.described as nails in the White House, are you worried? Well, I am,

:17:12. > :17:16.having been in two White houses, President Carter and President

:17:17. > :17:20.Clinton's and the bottom line is we are a country who knows how to make

:17:21. > :17:27.decisions. I think all I'm doing is looking at what the news is coming

:17:28. > :17:29.in, St who is going to be National Security Advisor, ex-person has

:17:30. > :17:36.turned it down because he has not got the staff he wants, those are

:17:37. > :17:45.basic questions and I do find it travelling -- troubling. Madeleine

:17:46. > :17:49.Albright talking to our chief correspondents Lyse Doucet.

:17:50. > :17:51.Between one - and three-hundred thousand people have taken

:17:52. > :17:54.to the streets of Barcelona as part of a series of protests calling

:17:55. > :17:59.They want the government to allow in more people who have fled Syria

:18:00. > :18:08.Spain has so far taken in just 1100 of the 17,000

:18:09. > :18:10.refugees it promised to accept in September 2015.

:18:11. > :18:12.And in Paris there have been protests in support

:18:13. > :18:16.Two police officers were injured and 13 people

:18:17. > :18:22.The demonstrations come after a young black man

:18:23. > :18:26.was allegedly raped with a police baton earlier this month.

:18:27. > :18:29.The 22-year-old - identified publicly only by the name Theo -

:18:30. > :18:58.There's been a big shock in the FA Cup as for the first time in 103

:18:59. > :19:01.years, a non-league side has made it through to the quarter-finals.

:19:02. > :19:03.Lincoln City are have beaten Premier League Burnley to make it

:19:04. > :19:06.Lincoln play in the fifth tier of English football.

:19:07. > :19:09.Sean Raggett was the hero heading in a late goal...

:19:10. > :19:11.It's the first time the club have ever got this far

:19:12. > :19:28.I am lost for words. I didn't know what to do in the celebration. The

:19:29. > :19:30.fans were amazing. It is unheard of, it is crazy.

:19:31. > :19:34.That was by no means the only FA Cup shock of the day.

:19:35. > :19:37.League One Millwall beat Premier League champions

:19:38. > :19:41.Leicester City 1-0 to secure their place

:19:42. > :19:45.Despite being reduced to ten men for much of the second half,

:19:46. > :19:48.Shaun Cummings grabbed the dramatic late winning goal to put the Lions

:19:49. > :20:00.It was very disappointing. We played well in the first half. We played so

:20:01. > :20:07.so in the beginning of the second half. When they played ten D 11,

:20:08. > :20:11.they played better than us, with more desire, more heart, and they

:20:12. > :20:15.deserved to win. No such problems for

:20:16. > :20:21.Premier League leaders Chelsea. They easied past Championship side

:20:22. > :20:27.Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0. Pedro and Diego Costa

:20:28. > :20:29.with the goals in the 2nd half. In the days other ties Championship

:20:30. > :20:33.side Huddersfield earned a replay against Manchester City -

:20:34. > :20:36.it finished 0-0 Middlesbrough beat Oxford United 3-2

:20:37. > :20:40.but the winning goal didn't come Gareth Bale scored on his return

:20:41. > :20:45.from injury as La Liga leaders Real Madrid beat Espanyol

:20:46. > :20:48.2-0 on Saturday. Alvaro Morata's header gave Real

:20:49. > :20:51.the lead in the first half to help his side move four points

:20:52. > :20:55.clear of second-placed Barcelona, That was before Welshman Bale sealed

:20:56. > :21:01.the win, following three months out Afterwards, he said it

:21:02. > :21:11.would take him a few weeks to fully gold medallist Mo Farah has raced

:21:12. > :21:17.for the last time indoors. He won the 5000 metres

:21:18. > :21:20.at the Birmingham Grand Prix He has already said that this

:21:21. > :21:24.will be his final year on the track, he'll bow out

:21:25. > :21:27.at the World Championships in London in the summer before

:21:28. > :21:46.switching his attention Amazing support from the crowd. And

:21:47. > :21:49.everyone. I can't believe it is my last race. I have had it right to

:21:50. > :21:54.wear indoors, something must come to wear indoors, something must come to

:21:55. > :21:56.an end. It is weird thinking about it, I have had great support from

:21:57. > :22:01.everyone. It has been amazing. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is through to

:22:02. > :22:03.the final of the Rotterdam Open final after beating Tomas Berdych

:22:04. > :22:05.in straight sets. It's the Frenchman's

:22:06. > :22:07.400th career win. It was a dominant display

:22:08. > :22:09.from Tsonga who needed just one break of serve to win the opening

:22:10. > :22:12.set against the 2014 champion. An early break in the second

:22:13. > :22:15.made it a relatively Tsonga will face either

:22:16. > :22:19.Belgium's David Goffin or fellow Frenchman Pierre-Huguet Herbert

:22:20. > :22:23.on Sunday. during a so-called weather bomb -

:22:24. > :22:42.a particularly dramatic storm - which has hit the US

:22:43. > :22:44.state of California. Heavy rainfall has been

:22:45. > :22:46.accompanied by winds of more Hundreds of homes have been

:22:47. > :22:51.evacuated due to fears of mud On the line is Terry Anzur,

:22:52. > :22:55.anchor for KFI News in Los Angeles. What are conditions

:22:56. > :23:09.like at the moment? At the moment, we are getting a

:23:10. > :23:15.little bit of a break from the rain and they have lifted the evacuation

:23:16. > :23:18.orders in the neighbourhood of the burn area where the water that came

:23:19. > :23:25.down yesterday had turned the streets into Withers of mud. Rivers

:23:26. > :23:31.of mud. People can go back home but they had to walk home because a huge

:23:32. > :23:39.clean-up effort is going on. We have just had some pictures in of fire

:23:40. > :23:44.truck which fell into a sink hole, absolutely unbelievable pictures.

:23:45. > :23:50.How are emergency crews coping with all of this? It shows you that the

:23:51. > :23:54.first responders are victims of this huge storm, just as much as regular

:23:55. > :24:01.people. This fire truck was on in a state 15 yesterday responding to an

:24:02. > :24:07.accident that involved a truck, when the pavement began to crumble and

:24:08. > :24:11.your the fire engine. You can see in that video the five engine just

:24:12. > :24:14.tumbles over. Good to know that all six firefighters who were working on

:24:15. > :24:19.that engine were able to get away but now it is just sitting on its

:24:20. > :24:27.side out in love San Bernardino County officials say it, cost some

:24:28. > :24:31.$3 million to repair the highway. It is good to know nobody was hurt in

:24:32. > :24:35.that. Tell us what are the challenges emergency crews are

:24:36. > :24:39.facing. Well, of course, there are lots of power outages and that is

:24:40. > :24:44.largely because we have been in a drought for six years and now, all

:24:45. > :24:49.of this rain, all at once that we needed so badly, has caused the

:24:50. > :24:53.trees to come out of the loose soil and fall down onto power lines and

:24:54. > :24:58.onto people's home. The other problem we have, sinkholes, opening

:24:59. > :25:05.up in the pavements. People driving down the streets minding their

:25:06. > :25:09.businesses, and suddenly, there was a big hole in the road. Two cars

:25:10. > :25:14.tumbled into a sinkholes yesterday, another one has opened up in another

:25:15. > :25:20.community and police are just trying to warn people to stay away from

:25:21. > :25:26.those areas. How unusual is this for California? This is crazy. Friday

:25:27. > :25:32.night traffic come holiday weekend, it is always bad here at the front

:25:33. > :25:38.of this has hit, everybody was on the roads. We had freeways that were

:25:39. > :25:43.filled up with water. The big trucks were having trouble getting through.

:25:44. > :25:47.This is very unusual, I have been covering traffic here for very many

:25:48. > :25:53.years, and I have never seen a thing like it. Thank you for being with

:25:54. > :25:57.us. If you want to get in touch with me about that story or any other,

:25:58. > :26:09.you can get in touch with me. That is it for now. Goodbye.

:26:10. > :26:14.It has been a mild springlike day across many parts of the country. We

:26:15. > :26:16.saw sunshine across southern
