:00:00. > :00:19.The Indian embassy in Washington has expressed deep concern over the

:00:20. > :00:27.killing of an Indian in Kansas in what is believed to be a racially

:00:28. > :00:30.motivated attack. As a vigil is held for victim is, his wife said they

:00:31. > :00:38.had grown anxious about racial hatred after the election of Donald

:00:39. > :00:45.Trump. I just could not sleep. I was talking and then I was like, he will

:00:46. > :00:46.be safe in this country. I am so worried.

:00:47. > :00:48.The exodus of civilians from western Mosul -

:00:49. > :00:56.as Iraqi troops push deeper into territory held by Islamic State

:00:57. > :00:59.Also coming up, the woman linked to the murder of Kim Jong-Nam -

:01:07. > :01:35.The Indian Embassy in Washington has expressed deep concern over

:01:36. > :01:37.the killing of an Indian man and the injuring of another

:01:38. > :01:42.More than a hundred people gathered for a vigil in Kansas honouring

:01:43. > :01:49.the victims of what authorities suspect was a possible hate crime.

:01:50. > :01:51.Sri-Nivas Kuchi-Bhotla died shortly after Wednesday's attack,

:01:52. > :01:55.his friend Alok Mada-Sani, also from India, and an American

:01:56. > :02:10.Adam Purin-ton, a white US Navy veteran

:02:11. > :02:15.has been charged with first degree murder

:02:16. > :02:17.Our correspondent Rajini Vaidhyanathan is outside

:02:18. > :02:22.the bar in Kansas - where this happened

:02:23. > :02:32.The two had moved from India here to Kansas and both worked for a tech

:02:33. > :02:36.company, Garmin, and it was a nice evening on Wednesday and they

:02:37. > :02:40.decided to come for a drink after work, something they often did. They

:02:41. > :02:46.have been friends a long time. Through the course of the evening,

:02:47. > :02:50.things got tens after a man approached their table and started

:02:51. > :02:56.talking to them and by the end of the evening both were victims of a

:02:57. > :03:00.gun attack in which the Indian man was killed. His friend survived the

:03:01. > :03:07.incident and he is still recovering at home. He spoke earlier.

:03:08. > :03:21.He randomly comes up and starts pointing fingers. Obviously, he

:03:22. > :03:26.started with Sri-Nivas because he was closer to his table. We knew

:03:27. > :03:30.something was wrong with the way he started the conversation and he was

:03:31. > :03:35.pointing his finger. That is not something you see everyday. What did

:03:36. > :03:37.he say? He came towards me and said, which country are you from? Are you

:03:38. > :03:46.here illegally? Police are investigating the

:03:47. > :03:50.possible motives, including the possibility that this was a hate

:03:51. > :03:56.crime. Other witnesses in the bar have reported that the attacker

:03:57. > :04:08.said, get out of my country. That is what is being investigated. The

:04:09. > :04:14.man's wife is travelling to India to perform his last rites. I also spoke

:04:15. > :04:20.to her yesterday. She told me a little bit about her fears about

:04:21. > :04:25.hate crimes in the United States. When the recent elections happened,

:04:26. > :04:35.he was watching it so closely. I was so worried. I just could not sleep.

:04:36. > :04:40.I was talking to him and I was like, he will be safe in this country. I

:04:41. > :04:47.am so worried. I think the hate crime will be more open now. Will it

:04:48. > :04:52.be safe for asked to go there? Will it be safe for us to go to the

:04:53. > :04:58.office? I am so worried, I am so worried. He held me like this and

:04:59. > :05:06.said, don't worry. We should be OK, we should be OK.

:05:07. > :05:13.Sri-Nivas loved America, a country he loved working in. His wife said

:05:14. > :05:17.he was a hard worker and would leave the office late everyday. He was

:05:18. > :05:22.dedicated to this country and his wife said when she comes back from

:05:23. > :05:25.India, she wants to come back to America, she also loves this

:05:26. > :05:32.country, despite her concerns she expressed. We are hearing that one

:05:33. > :05:38.Indian society in the US is advising national is not to speak in their

:05:39. > :05:47.local dialect. You have been in Kansas, what people you there? I

:05:48. > :05:53.went to a vigil at a local church is not too far from the bar, which has

:05:54. > :05:57.reopened, I should say. It opened at 11 o'clock on Saturday following

:05:58. > :06:04.what happened. But the mood at the Interfaith vigil, there were

:06:05. > :06:09.Americans, and Indian Americans are many said they loved this area and

:06:10. > :06:14.think it is a united community and so they are not concerned about

:06:15. > :06:18.living here, specifically, but they are devastated about what happened,

:06:19. > :06:24.because many people here the two then. Thanks.

:06:25. > :06:28.Tom Perez, a former member of President Obama's cabinet, has

:06:29. > :06:36.been elected as the new national chairman of the Democratic Party.

:06:37. > :06:38.After beating Keith Ellison a congressman from Minnesota.

:06:39. > :06:41.Mr Perez then appointed him as his deputy.

:06:42. > :06:44.The role of chairman is seen as critical with the Republicans

:06:45. > :06:46.holding majorities in both the Senate and House

:06:47. > :06:49.After his successful campaign, Mr Perez made this

:06:50. > :07:04.Someday they are going to study this era in American history and study it

:07:05. > :07:10.alongside the know nothing movement and will ask the question of all of

:07:11. > :07:15.us, where were you in 2017? When we had the worst president in the

:07:16. > :07:20.history of the United States, and we will all be able to say, whether you

:07:21. > :07:26.are sitting here, outside, or whether you are looking across

:07:27. > :07:30.America, we will be able to say, the united Democratic party led the

:07:31. > :07:36.resistance, ensured that this president was a one term president

:07:37. > :07:43.and elected Democrats across this country from the school board, to

:07:44. > :07:47.the Senate, to the state attorneys general, two secretaries of State

:07:48. > :07:54.and Senators and governors, to District six is. To New Jersey and

:07:55. > :08:03.Virginia. Next year, we are going to have a market correction in all of

:08:04. > :08:05.these states, like admiring -- like Maryland. That is what we are going

:08:06. > :08:17.to do. The new chairman of the Iraqi troops are pushing

:08:18. > :08:17.deeper into western Mosul in their offensive to drive out

:08:18. > :08:19.so-called Islamic State This area of Mosul is the last

:08:20. > :08:25.IS stronghold in Iraq. The militants are surrounded,

:08:26. > :08:27.along with an estimated three-quarters-of-a-million

:08:28. > :08:29.civilians. Our correspondent Wyre Davies

:08:30. > :08:31.is at an advanced Iraqi military base where American troops

:08:32. > :08:34.and advisers are a key part This woman is a victim of

:08:35. > :08:44.Islamic State's latest tactic in its desperate bid to avoid

:08:45. > :08:48.defeat in Mosul. The 55-year-old mother of seven

:08:49. > :08:51.from the eastern part of the "I was lying on the ground

:08:52. > :09:00.and people were pointing to the sky from where the bomb

:09:01. > :09:04.came", she told me. One of dozens of drone attack

:09:05. > :09:06.victims they've treated at This is pretty new for this

:09:07. > :09:10.conflict, but also for These mortars can be

:09:11. > :09:14.very effective and the impact on the population

:09:15. > :09:18.really, really brutal. This IS video eulogises

:09:19. > :09:21.the use of commercially available drones to drop

:09:22. > :09:25.bombs and grenades. An organisation which governs

:09:26. > :09:28.according to brutal feudal codes adapting modern

:09:29. > :09:35.technology to lethal effect. Drones are yet another threat

:09:36. > :09:39.for government troops now pursuing fighters from so-called

:09:40. > :09:41.Islamic State into the narrow After days of fierce

:09:42. > :09:46.clashes on the edge of the But from a field just to the south,

:09:47. > :09:56.big American guns are helping to sway the battle perhaps

:09:57. > :09:58.decisively in the government's This is an overwhelmingly Iraqi

:09:59. > :10:03.military operation but the role of American advisers

:10:04. > :10:06.and troops, so-called boots on the US artillery pieces

:10:07. > :10:13.pounding targets in American commanders are reluctant

:10:14. > :10:23.to divulge too many sensitive details, but say US

:10:24. > :10:25.military support will be decisive. The fight in Western Mosul

:10:26. > :10:28.would be a tough fight So the Iraqi army, the Iraqi federal

:10:29. > :10:36.police, again will face It will be a lot of

:10:37. > :10:39.house-to-house fighting. A Kurdish reporter,

:10:40. > :10:44.Shifa Gardi was killed today covering the government

:10:45. > :10:46.advance into Mosul. A handful of refugees

:10:47. > :10:48.fled in the opposite direction but there are an estimated

:10:49. > :10:50.750,000 civilians still trapped Wyre Davies, BBC

:10:51. > :11:14.News, northern Iraq. The aid agencies are preparing for a

:11:15. > :11:19.huge number of civilians from Mosul. One person told us about what they

:11:20. > :11:25.have been hearing. Our teams have seen families who have just escaped

:11:26. > :11:30.from the actual fighting will stop to the places where our teams are

:11:31. > :11:35.operating. They are talking about horrible stories of snipers shooting

:11:36. > :11:42.women and children. Those who are trying to escape. It is, and has

:11:43. > :11:47.resulted in killing and injury among them. Also some families are just

:11:48. > :11:50.separated. Everybody is running for their lives.

:11:51. > :11:55.Those people trapped in the west of the city under the control of

:11:56. > :12:00.Islamic State, what are your fears of them? First of all their safety

:12:01. > :12:04.and secondly the longer this conflict continues, there will be a

:12:05. > :12:07.danger of people running out of food and water and medicine and

:12:08. > :12:20.everything. What do you know about the geography of the area? We hear

:12:21. > :12:22.about narrow streets. What do you fear for the people trying to

:12:23. > :12:25.escape? That is our worry, especially in the old part of the

:12:26. > :12:29.city where it is estimated over 400,000 people will be living.

:12:30. > :12:35.Narrow streets and old houses. With the fighting people could be at risk

:12:36. > :12:40.whether they are staying or trying to escape. Given the numbers

:12:41. > :12:43.involved, are you worried about mass casualties? We would be worried

:12:44. > :12:50.about mass casualties but at the same time it is great to hear the

:12:51. > :12:54.Iraqi forces and government have taken civilian protection as a

:12:55. > :12:59.priority of this operation and we hope it materialises on the ground.

:13:00. > :13:05.If there are many casualties, our agencies ready for that? We are not

:13:06. > :13:09.ready. We are unable to reach into old parts of the city and we are

:13:10. > :13:14.only able to support families who are escaping from fighting.

:13:15. > :13:17.A 73-year-old man has died after being severely injured

:13:18. > :13:21.when a man drove his car into pedestrians in the

:13:22. > :13:34.Police say the driver was a German who was armed with a knife,

:13:35. > :13:41.Police say they are not sure of the motivation behind the attack.

:13:42. > :13:43.Two other people who were injured have both been

:13:44. > :13:48.The UN's peace envoy for Syria says suicide attacks on two government

:13:49. > :13:50.compounds in the city of Homs were designed to derail the current

:13:51. > :13:56.At least 30 people were killed and dozens injured.

:13:57. > :14:03.The former al-Qaeda affiliate, the Al-Nusra Front, which now calls

:14:04. > :14:05.itself Fateh al-Sham, said it carried out the attack.

:14:06. > :14:09.Our correspondent Rami Ruhayem is in Beirut and told me how

:14:10. > :14:12.the bombings could happen in a city supposedly under tight

:14:13. > :14:28.This is an infiltration, not a battle. Whoever did this probably

:14:29. > :14:33.Fateh al-Sham, the rebel group which claimed this attack, managed to get

:14:34. > :14:39.through to this well guarded, highly sensitive spot, a couple of well

:14:40. > :14:44.guarded, highly sensitive spots, to carry out this attack. This has

:14:45. > :14:50.happened before. The regime has faced attacks in area it controls

:14:51. > :14:55.before. Several of them in Homs, mostly on civilian targets. This one

:14:56. > :14:58.unlike the others was not on a civilian target but possibly on a

:14:59. > :15:10.target that matters more to the regime than other targets, because

:15:11. > :15:12.of the nature of the targets will stop intelligence headquarters and

:15:13. > :15:18.quite high profile casualties, as well. And a group believed to be

:15:19. > :15:27.behind the attack, are they involved in the putative ongoing peace talks,

:15:28. > :15:29.which are due to take place? No, this group came into existence in

:15:30. > :15:43.its current form a couple of weeks ago. It used to be called Fateh

:15:44. > :15:49.al-Sham. In the first statement by its leader, they explicitly rejected

:15:50. > :15:54.negotiations and said they are not going to lead anywhere. The only way

:15:55. > :15:58.to continue the revolution, they said, is to continue the armed

:15:59. > :16:02.struggle against the regime and this is probably one of the most

:16:03. > :16:11.successful manifestations of their strategy. Of course, this is a

:16:12. > :16:15.manifestation as well of Al-Nusra, there is fierce focus from the start

:16:16. > :16:22.of the Syrian uprising till now, on fighting the regime and rejecting

:16:23. > :16:33.all the Western backed and golf Arab backed attempts to find a way --

:16:34. > :16:41.Gulf. To find a solution to the regime. Still to come... Lavish

:16:42. > :16:42.birthday celebrations that the Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe who

:16:43. > :17:43.turned 93 this week. Benedict will in his own words be

:17:44. > :17:52.hidden from the world for the rest of his life.

:17:53. > :17:59.The latest headlines. A vigil is held for the victims of a shooting

:18:00. > :18:04.in a Kansas bar in which an Indian man was killed in what is believed

:18:05. > :18:10.to be a racially motivated attack. In an exodus of civilians from

:18:11. > :18:18.Western Mosul as Iraqi troops pushed deeper into territory held by the

:18:19. > :18:22.so-called Islamic State. Malaysian officials say the Kuala Lumpur

:18:23. > :18:27.International Airport is safe and has no radioactive or hazardous

:18:28. > :18:32.materials. The announcement came after security experts carried out a

:18:33. > :18:35.sweep for any traces of the toxic nerve agent that killed the half

:18:36. > :18:42.brother of the North Korean leader. Police said Kim Jong-nam was

:18:43. > :18:48.assassinated with a lethal dose of VX, a chemical listed by the UN as a

:18:49. > :18:52.weapon of mass destruction. Even though the search was conducted in

:18:53. > :18:58.11 days after the murder, police say not a single medical emergency was

:18:59. > :19:07.reported. The screening process was carried out at areas and locations

:19:08. > :19:12.related to this case. As a result of this screening process, we confirm

:19:13. > :19:22.number one, there is no hazardous material found. Number two, it is

:19:23. > :19:34.free from any form of contamination of hazardous material. And third, it

:19:35. > :19:40.is declared a safe zone. Indonesian diplomats have visited one of their

:19:41. > :19:44.nationals held as a suspect. The woman repeated her claim she is

:19:45. > :19:49.innocent and thought she was taking part in a prank. She told Indonesian

:19:50. > :19:53.officials that two Korean or Japanese looking men gave her a

:19:54. > :20:05.substance that looks like baby all to wipe on the face of a man and

:20:06. > :20:12.paid her $90. According to her she got 400 ringgits. There is plenty

:20:13. > :20:17.more on this story on the website including a closer look at exactly

:20:18. > :20:21.what VX nerve agent is. Go to the website.

:20:22. > :20:23.There's been a lavish birthday party for Zimbabwe's President,

:20:24. > :20:24.Robert Mugabe, who turned 93 this week.

:20:25. > :20:29.Mr Mugabe is defying calls to resign.

:20:30. > :20:32.The oldest president in the world said this week that

:20:33. > :20:35."the majority of the people feel that there is no

:20:36. > :20:49.Organisers are saying they want to throw one of the biggest parties in

:20:50. > :20:55.Africa. What does it take for such a big budget birthday? 150 cattle have

:20:56. > :20:58.been slaughtered for food and thousands of people brought in to

:20:59. > :21:03.join the celebrations and there is plenty of cake for officials, but

:21:04. > :21:08.not everybody is celebrating. Some groups said the party abused power

:21:09. > :21:14.and forced impoverished people to make donations. A protest group said

:21:15. > :21:18.the feasting should stop until the country is fixed. As we speak

:21:19. > :21:23.hospitals are in crisis, doctors have been on strike the last two

:21:24. > :21:27.weeks. The government said this is not an ordinary party, that they

:21:28. > :21:37.want to revere an African icon that is President Robert Mugabe.

:21:38. > :21:45.The latest sport. Thanks. Scotland have secured a long-awaited victory

:21:46. > :21:49.over Wales. Their first in a decade. Tommy Seymour's try put

:21:50. > :21:51.the Scots back in front after Liam Williams

:21:52. > :21:52.scored for Wales. Then Scotland secured the win

:21:53. > :21:55.with a wonderfully worked try.. A great pass from Stuart

:21:56. > :22:08.Hogg to Tim Visser. We started the championship well at

:22:09. > :22:11.home against Ireland. We were disappointed in France but we

:22:12. > :22:14.believe we can do something with this group and we are not just

:22:15. > :22:19.saying that, whether people believe us or not. Today we came from a poor

:22:20. > :22:27.first half to build an ice core and beat a very good Welsh side. We are

:22:28. > :22:29.going to England for the next game. We are a group, if we work hard, we

:22:30. > :22:34.believe we can win games. Jonnie Sexton returned from injury

:22:35. > :22:36.to guide Ireland to a 19-9 victory The fly-half kicked 11 points

:22:37. > :22:41.in what was his first match since he suffered a calf strain

:22:42. > :22:42.playing for Irish province Ireland's other scores came

:22:43. > :23:00.via Conor Murray's first-half try Claudio Ranieri returned to the

:23:01. > :23:04.Leicester training ground. He left the club one point above the

:23:05. > :23:10.relegation zone. They now sit in the bottom three after results went

:23:11. > :23:14.against them on Saturday. Tonight Leicester striker Jamie Vardy

:23:15. > :23:15.released a response to suggestions the players were responsible for his

:23:16. > :23:23.departure. He said on social media:

:23:24. > :23:25.I must have written and deleted my words

:23:26. > :23:44.to this Chelsea are 11 points clear

:23:45. > :23:46.at the top of the Premier League tonight after beating Swansea 3-1

:23:47. > :23:48.at Stamford Bridge. Cesc Fabregas scored

:23:49. > :23:53.first, Fernando Llorente level, but two late goals -

:23:54. > :24:06.from Pedro and then Diego Costa We showed great character to start

:24:07. > :24:16.the second half and create chances we had. Fabregas scored across the

:24:17. > :24:22.bar and then be scored. We deserved a lot to win the game. Now it is

:24:23. > :24:26.important to continue in this way. Winning over 29 points to be

:24:27. > :24:31.champions. It is important to know this, for me, my players and fans.

:24:32. > :24:34.To continue with the great focus and concentration.

:24:35. > :24:44.It is looking unlikely anybody will stop Chelsea. Crystal Palace beat

:24:45. > :24:48.Middlesbrough 1-0. They are out of the bottom three after the win over

:24:49. > :24:51.Middlesbrough. Patrick van Aanholt with the goal.

:24:52. > :24:58.It is a great victory and hopefully we can move on from there. I think

:24:59. > :25:01.the two-week break had a big influence on players because we

:25:02. > :25:06.could get a lot of work into the players in all aspects of their

:25:07. > :25:07.game. And today they made a lot of really good decisions. They coped

:25:08. > :25:14.with the pressure very well. Sunderland remain

:25:15. > :25:41.bottom of the table That is all the sport. Back to you.

:25:42. > :25:43.A reminder of the menus. The Indian embassy in Washington expressed deep

:25:44. > :25:49.concern over the killing of an Indian man in a shooting in Kansas.

:25:50. > :25:53.More than 100 people have gathered for a vigil honouring the victims of

:25:54. > :26:08.what authorities suspect was a hate crime. That is it from me. Goodbye.

:26:09. > :26:21.Hello, good evening. Breaking news on the weather front. The Irish Met

:26:22. > :26:22.service have named Storms Iwan. It is heading our way and
