:00:14. > :00:26.Good evening. I am live in Paris. It comes out that the man who shot a

:00:27. > :00:35.police military four previous convictions. During a previous time

:00:36. > :00:42.of 14 years, he did not show any sign of radicalisation. Security

:00:43. > :00:46.forces have been mobilised ahead of the presidential elections. The

:00:47. > :00:52.president says everything will be done to make sure things go

:00:53. > :00:59.smoothly. Nothing will stop this fundamental democratic movement. Our

:01:00. > :01:04.other top stories. As the Prime Minister campaigns for the election

:01:05. > :01:07.in the United Kingdom, the nurse at suggestions as the possible

:01:08. > :01:13.softening of our governments promise not to increase taxes. Police

:01:14. > :01:19.investigating the attack on the Brescia Dortmund team bus last week

:01:20. > :01:28.make an arrest and see that the motive may have been financial gain.

:01:29. > :01:30.And women's football. One of the top Afghanistan woman football was

:01:31. > :01:41.forced to flee the country because she is in fear of her away.

:01:42. > :01:49.There are just a few hours of the campaign left before the election on

:01:50. > :01:55.Sunday. Events have been dominated to D-Day events in Paris last night.

:01:56. > :02:00.We have here from the prosecutor that the attacker had been laid in a

:02:01. > :02:04.out of prison all of his life. He had served sentences for theft and

:02:05. > :02:17.aggravated violence, including the attempted murder of a policeman in

:02:18. > :02:21.2001. A letter claiming his allegiance to Islamic state was

:02:22. > :02:33.found in his pocket after he was shot dead last night. Last night,

:02:34. > :02:46.alone attacker with a weapon shot policeman dead. His target was

:02:47. > :02:50.French police. This mobile phone footage shows the moment he killed a

:02:51. > :02:58.policeman and injured two others before being shot dead. The

:02:59. > :03:06.policeman he killed was identified today. Dead for doing his duty. The

:03:07. > :03:16.group calling itself Islamic State claimed responsibility. He had

:03:17. > :03:21.already served years in prison for attacking police. Officers today

:03:22. > :03:25.searched the family house. Three of those living there are no being

:03:26. > :03:33.questioned. Neighbour stalled as they did not see the family very

:03:34. > :03:38.often. One said he read in the attic and the morning paper and discovered

:03:39. > :03:43.that the attacker had been living on his street. Another neighbourhood

:03:44. > :03:47.rebranded as part of the story of France's terrorist attacks, with

:03:48. > :03:52.thousands of people in ordinary areas listed as potential threats,

:03:53. > :04:01.security forces here are stretched to breaking point. The selection was

:04:02. > :04:09.always seen as the possible point for terrorism. The parties have been

:04:10. > :04:14.promising thousands more police jobs if they are elected. We want to take

:04:15. > :04:19.back control of our borders from the European Union. We will only raise

:04:20. > :04:34.the level of protection on our borders. Pictures of hatred must be

:04:35. > :04:44.expelled. No one will be able to preach against the values of the

:04:45. > :04:48.Republic. The newcomer said that liberty and democracy would succeed.

:04:49. > :05:02.It is our liberty and democracy and freedom which is being targeted. Do

:05:03. > :05:09.not given to intimidation. They are determined that these attacks will

:05:10. > :05:19.not stop the transition of power this was an attacker who had the has

:05:20. > :05:24.any of prison sentences, but had no history of affiliation with Islamic

:05:25. > :05:30.state. He was convicted of aggravated violence in 2008 towards

:05:31. > :05:36.a police officer. He was jailed for two years in 2014 for theft and

:05:37. > :05:41.burglary. He was arrested this year on suspicion of planning to attack

:05:42. > :05:49.the police, but was released due to insufficient evidence. Police say

:05:50. > :05:53.they have recovered the gun used by the attacker. They are now trying to

:05:54. > :06:04.piece together his background. I want to clarify that either was not

:06:05. > :06:09.on the watch list. In 14 years, he had shown no sign of being

:06:10. > :06:14.radicalised trying to convert other people. The investigations are

:06:15. > :06:24.attempting to establish the exact context in which he decided to act.

:06:25. > :06:34.I am pleased to see that the author of a major book on terrorism and

:06:35. > :06:38.friends has joined me. -- France. Is it feel you're on the part of the

:06:39. > :06:50.security forces what happened last night? I do not think so. We have

:06:51. > :06:56.been subjected to potential endless terror from Islamic state but that

:06:57. > :07:00.has not happened. All these attempted attacks have been nipped

:07:01. > :07:07.in the bud by the security services because they were able to act in

:07:08. > :07:14.advance. So you think they are making improvements? Definitely. The

:07:15. > :07:22.only thing that happened unfortunately last night was this

:07:23. > :07:32.attack. But I do not think that will change the election. Islamic state

:07:33. > :07:37.is interested in boosting the extreme right. They want to see a

:07:38. > :07:44.fracturing between France and other liberal democracies within Europe.

:07:45. > :07:57.The only way to survive as Muslims, they would say, was to join under

:07:58. > :08:03.our banner. It looks as if Le Pen has had a major boost in popularity

:08:04. > :08:11.following last night 's attack? She will probably get through to the

:08:12. > :08:17.second round. But that is not so much a question of how she will do

:08:18. > :08:21.beyond fear. This is a story about a man who has been in and out of

:08:22. > :08:26.prison much of his life? We do not know, but there is a fair chance he

:08:27. > :08:32.was radicalised inside? We do not know that. Obviously, there have

:08:33. > :08:42.been people in prison who have been released, like when the policeman

:08:43. > :08:49.was stamped in June last year, he was stabbed by someone who had just

:08:50. > :08:56.come out of prison. Therefore, we have an enormous problem not only in

:08:57. > :09:01.France, but also in the likes of Italy and Germany. The lorry driver,

:09:02. > :09:12.he was someone who had already been imprisoned. My advice to the next

:09:13. > :09:20.fix French president is that we would consider the judiciary is the

:09:21. > :09:28.priority. We need to build new prisons, re-educate the prosecutors

:09:29. > :09:37.and the lawyers in order to be a weir of these threats. There are

:09:38. > :09:42.interested. They are doing their jobs, but they are not we are enough

:09:43. > :09:49.of what the issues are. This is an issue which they did not study.

:09:50. > :09:53.There is an enormous amount of information which has to be

:09:54. > :09:58.implemented, whether it is in Europe, which is known the soft

:09:59. > :10:07.underbelly of the West. That is how the extreme Islamists see it.

:10:08. > :10:13.Fascinating stuff. Thank you for talking to us.

:10:14. > :10:23.This city is on high alert. We do not want any more incidents.

:10:24. > :10:28.Security guards were brought out to protect 60,000 polling stations

:10:29. > :10:36.across the country. We are in for tents days. Back to you. Of course

:10:37. > :10:41.there is much more you can find on the website. Back to other news.

:10:42. > :10:46.Here in the UK, the Prime Minister is on day three of the campaign

:10:47. > :10:52.trail and along with the Chancellor, they have given their hint of what

:10:53. > :10:54.will and what will not be in the Conservative manifesto. She says she

:10:55. > :11:04.will keep the current spending on foreign aid. The Chancellor says he

:11:05. > :11:05.will like to end the party prize mac promise not to increase taxes. --

:11:06. > :11:22.party's promise. She looks confident enough and the

:11:23. > :11:27.message, when we have heard before and will again. What drives me in

:11:28. > :11:32.politics is to make the United Kingdom a country that works for

:11:33. > :11:37.everyone and not just the privileged few. That meant sticking to

:11:38. > :11:42.Britain's target for spending on foreign aid, some right wingers want

:11:43. > :11:46.cut. What we need to do is look how that money is spent and make sure we

:11:47. > :11:50.are able to spend that money in the most effective way. Clear enough,

:11:51. > :11:54.but what about that other costly pledge, keeping up the value of

:11:55. > :11:59.pensions? You are telling the country that you are a leader that

:12:00. > :12:10.the people can trust. Can pensioners trust you to go on raising their

:12:11. > :12:13.state pensions year by year, just as your party and your Government does

:12:14. > :12:17.now? What I would say to pensioners is like at what the Conservatives in

:12:18. > :12:22.Government have done. 1000 and year better off due to action that has

:12:23. > :12:25.been taken. We were very clear that we need to support people in their

:12:26. > :12:31.old age and that is what we have done. That was not a yes. You're in

:12:32. > :12:35.Berkshire, plenty of people like the idea of looking after pensions. They

:12:36. > :12:39.have worked all their lives and paid the national insurance. They have

:12:40. > :12:43.paid their taxes. I think they deserve it as much as anybody else.

:12:44. > :12:49.If you cannot look after the elderly, what can you do? They do

:12:50. > :12:54.not use it. A lot of them put it straight in the bank. She may be

:12:55. > :13:02.about to upset a lot of other voters. Even thinking about dropping

:13:03. > :13:06.the promise to pensioners... She is clearly protecting overseas aid

:13:07. > :13:11.spending at the same time. A big lead in the polls comes in handy if

:13:12. > :13:17.you are about to annoy millions of pensioners. A big majority in the

:13:18. > :13:23.Commons, even more so. That deserves a cardinal. Jeremy Corbyn is

:13:24. > :13:30.campaigning his way, to small clouds and big ones. -- crowds. The

:13:31. > :13:36.Corbyn's wave sounds like this. Theresa May seems incapable of

:13:37. > :13:41.answering any questions over state pensions. I give you that commitment

:13:42. > :13:47.now. Labour will maintain the triple lock. Standing by what is called the

:13:48. > :13:53.triple lock. Pensions up every year by information or average earnings

:13:54. > :13:58.or 2.5%. I am not quite sure where I am going. Nor is anyone. The

:13:59. > :14:02.campaign has just started. The Liberal Democrats look perky. They

:14:03. > :14:07.are sure this election will be better than last time. We are the

:14:08. > :14:11.only opposition to the Conservatives. Giving a clear and

:14:12. > :14:17.effective decent opposition on every level. And on the go. Pollsters and

:14:18. > :14:24.pundits may think they know how this ends but there are still 48 days

:14:25. > :14:29.until polling day. German police have arrested a man suspected of

:14:30. > :14:33.setting off a bomb against the Dortmund football team bus last

:14:34. > :14:37.week. The had been initial fears it was a terror attack but prosecutors

:14:38. > :14:42.now believe the man hope to send the club's share price plummeting, with

:14:43. > :14:48.the intention of making a profit on investments he had made before the

:14:49. > :14:53.attack. Damian McGuinness is in Berlin for us. Tell us about this

:14:54. > :14:58.latest development, please. Yes, as you say, initially police did think

:14:59. > :15:03.it was a terror attack. They were not sure whether it was Islamist

:15:04. > :15:07.terror or right-wing or left-wing extremists. It now turns out,

:15:08. > :15:12.according to prosecutors, this was in fact financial crime. So what the

:15:13. > :15:18.suspect is alleged to have done is to have bought boot options, as they

:15:19. > :15:22.are known. You can bet on the share price going down and if the share

:15:23. > :15:27.price does go down the company, in this case the football team, then he

:15:28. > :15:34.could have earned lots of money. He wanted to do this by bombing the

:15:35. > :15:39.Bath coach, the team bus, which would have led to multiple injuries

:15:40. > :15:48.amongst the players, if not fatalities. It was quite a brittle

:15:49. > :15:53.attack. -- brittle. Unfortunately, only one player was injured. There

:15:54. > :15:57.were no vitality is but that was a matter of luck. Now the judges here

:15:58. > :16:01.in Germany have issued a formal arrest. So far he has only been

:16:02. > :16:08.detained. He has been charged with attempted murder. It has shot

:16:09. > :16:15.Germany because a lot of people feel it is a terrible way of trying to

:16:16. > :16:20.make money on the stock market. Any indication from the authorities how

:16:21. > :16:25.on earth image that connection? Yes, it's interesting. It seems that

:16:26. > :16:28.there were a couple of mistakes in the sport. Even though the

:16:29. > :16:35.technicality behind this attack was sophisticated. It was all planned so

:16:36. > :16:38.that he could detonate the explosives from the hotel room while

:16:39. > :16:42.the team were in the coach going from the hotel room to the stadium.

:16:43. > :16:47.From the technical side, it was quite sophisticated, according to

:16:48. > :16:52.experts. It sounds that the suspect made some errors. According to

:16:53. > :16:57.prosecutors, he bought the stock options from an IP address in the

:16:58. > :17:02.hotel. He did not... It was quite clear to investigators there was a

:17:03. > :17:06.connection there anyway. The initial tip off came from banks because the

:17:07. > :17:13.financial sector realised that something was amiss. The suspected

:17:14. > :17:16.money-laundering. The informed the authorities and the authorities have

:17:17. > :17:21.been tracking this young man. He was then detained this morning on his

:17:22. > :17:28.way to work. He works as an elocution in the southern state. --

:17:29. > :17:32.electrician. He has been arrested and will be charged for attempted

:17:33. > :17:40.murder. Fascinating. Thank you very much. We are going to bring you some

:17:41. > :17:44.breaking news. The story that is developing. It has been reported

:17:45. > :17:48.that US military officials are saying that a close associate of the

:17:49. > :17:57.Islamic State leader has been killed in a commando raid. He was reported

:17:58. > :18:01.killed during the ground assault in Syria. He was reported to have been

:18:02. > :18:05.involved in plotting the New Year's Eve attack on the nightclub in

:18:06. > :18:14.Istanbul in Terkel, in which at least 39 people were killed. -- in

:18:15. > :18:20.Turkey. At some of the other day's stories now. US and Afghan officials

:18:21. > :18:23.say it more than 50 people have been killed or seriously injured in an

:18:24. > :18:32.attack on an army base in the northern town. Military officials

:18:33. > :18:38.say is suicide bomber blew up his bomb at the gate. The Taliban says

:18:39. > :18:42.it launched the attack. Emergency services in South Africa say at

:18:43. > :18:47.least 19 schoolchildren were killed when their minibus collided with a

:18:48. > :18:51.truck near the capital. The bus exploded into a ball of flames on

:18:52. > :18:55.impact and fell onto its side. Police say the bus driver was

:18:56. > :19:03.killed, whilst the driver of the truck survived. It is not clear what

:19:04. > :19:12.caused the crash. Arkansas's has executed its first inmate after 12

:19:13. > :19:16.years. The US Supreme Court rejected the final appeal to stop the lethal

:19:17. > :19:23.injection. He was one of eight men that Arkansas had originally planned

:19:24. > :19:28.to execute over 11 days. At least 11 people had been killed after another

:19:29. > :19:32.night of looting and violence in Venezuela. After two days of protest

:19:33. > :19:35.after the Socialist Government. Tens of thousands of people have taken to

:19:36. > :19:47.the streets over the past three weeks to call for the new

:19:48. > :19:51.presidential elections. Has computer hacking become a more widespread

:19:52. > :19:57.problem? The authorities have had to come up with new ways to protect the

:19:58. > :20:02.online communities. In the UK the average hacker is 17 years old. They

:20:03. > :20:05.are not motivated by money either. That has made the effort to stop the

:20:06. > :20:13.hackers even more focused. The internet is breeding a new kind

:20:14. > :20:16.of criminal who'd never normally They're young and tech savvy

:20:17. > :20:19.and sometimes don't even realise Investigators questioned teenagers

:20:20. > :20:26.convicted of cyber crime The report found financial

:20:27. > :20:29.gain wasn't a priority. But they did want to

:20:30. > :20:33.impress other hackers. And thought the risk

:20:34. > :20:36.of getting caught was low. The early motivations

:20:37. > :20:39.can be the challenge, can be proving to their peers online

:20:40. > :20:44.that they can complete the challenge or they can break into certain

:20:45. > :20:48.things, or find vulnerabilities. But we do see, if they are good

:20:49. > :20:51.at that and if they can build their reputations in forums

:20:52. > :20:53.and prove to their peers, we do see them then getting

:20:54. > :20:56.into this more for monetary This self-confessed hacker, now 16,

:20:57. > :21:04.claims he taught himself. I got interested, wanted to know how

:21:05. > :21:09.it worked and how this actually happens, how a website

:21:10. > :21:11.gets taken down. You learn about the Computer Misuse

:21:12. > :21:20.Act, which is something you are likely to fall

:21:21. > :21:27.foul of if you go off and do cyber security

:21:28. > :21:29.without any guidance. The NCA research also shows

:21:30. > :21:31.early intervention can Here, teenagers take part

:21:32. > :21:33.in a tech competition, learning how to hack and stay

:21:34. > :21:38.on the right side of the law. A lot of students have access

:21:39. > :21:41.to their own computers at home now and therefore they are trying things

:21:42. > :21:47.out, and rightly so, we don't want to discourage

:21:48. > :21:49.people from going out and trying new skills,

:21:50. > :21:52.learning how to do things. What we absolutely must

:21:53. > :21:53.get in there, though, is there is a line

:21:54. > :21:56.they shouldn't be crossing, It's a huge challenge

:21:57. > :21:59.for law enforcement. The average age of suspects in cyber

:22:00. > :22:17.crime investigations is now just 17. In Afghanistan, women's football has

:22:18. > :22:22.seen a revival since the fall of the Taliban. One of the founders of the

:22:23. > :22:23.team fled the country in fear of her life because of her links to

:22:24. > :22:37.football. I can't forget that moment when I

:22:38. > :22:45.thought I may longer not be alive. You only have the option to leave or

:22:46. > :22:50.shut your mouth. I am not the person who shot my voice because I know my

:22:51. > :22:57.voice can change so many things. She is the face of Afghanistan fit all,

:22:58. > :23:04.but like so many teenage girls, playing for her country was just a

:23:05. > :23:13.dream. -- football. I left the country. The culture was changed.

:23:14. > :23:18.The Taliban... During the Taliban rain, it was a tough time for women

:23:19. > :23:26.especially. She saw football as a way of empowering women. She

:23:27. > :23:33.recruited group of girls. The first game was against a team in control.

:23:34. > :23:39.The scene of so many public executions. We played in a stadium

:23:40. > :23:44.and the same stadium where women were shot. It was like a revolution.

:23:45. > :23:52.It was a huge change. The women who were killed in that stadium, in that

:23:53. > :23:57.penalty area, and it was that area where I kicked the ball. Afghanistan

:23:58. > :24:04.one but that did little to endear the players to some people. They

:24:05. > :24:07.became a target from abuse. Those girls who are playing football and

:24:08. > :24:16.doing any kind of sports, they are prostitutes. We faced the problems

:24:17. > :24:23.of violence from women against women. From man against women. Her

:24:24. > :24:27.family were threatened so she fled to India before moving to Denmark,

:24:28. > :24:31.where she now lives as a refugee. Injury cut short her career and now

:24:32. > :24:42.despite living thousands of Columba Tours, she continues to work for the

:24:43. > :24:49.football team. -- Columba Tours. There is a problem with my injury

:24:50. > :24:55.but I do participate and I do coordinate the programmes and I do

:24:56. > :25:03.help my country from far-away. That is the thing that kept me alive and

:25:04. > :25:10.kept me happy and it motivated me to work hard for my country. I love my

:25:11. > :25:11.country. Just before we go, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as you have

:25:12. > :25:16.never heard them before. Last week, Harry Styles

:25:17. > :25:19.went straight to number one with his debut single,

:25:20. > :25:21.Sign Of The Times. Or will Ed Sheeran

:25:22. > :25:24.retain that top spot? He had 13 weeks at number one

:25:25. > :25:27.with Shape Of You before Harry came along

:25:28. > :25:38.and spoiled his Easter. The royal couple made a surprise

:25:39. > :25:46.visit to BBC radio one to talk about the mental health campaign. William

:25:47. > :25:51.announced he previously texted into Radio 1 under an assumed name. What

:25:52. > :25:54.a lovely surprise. That is it from the programme. Next, the weather.

:25:55. > :26:09.Goodbye. If you have outdoor plans this

:26:10. > :26:11.weekend, the weather shouldn't
