:00:10. > :00:11.White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer is currently

:00:12. > :00:26.A very warm welcome. We will continue listening to this press

:00:27. > :00:29.briefing. Yesterday, we were told that the president expects the FBI

:00:30. > :00:34.investigation will be wrapped up with integrity. Today the president

:00:35. > :00:39.tweeted and called it a witchhunt. How does that help wrap that

:00:40. > :00:47.investigation up with integrity? The President... He wants to know very

:00:48. > :00:53.clearly... There is two pieces of this. What was not a's involvement.

:00:54. > :00:58.The President's concerned about any entity is attempting to influence

:00:59. > :01:02.the election and the second is this false narrative that we continue to

:01:03. > :01:04.fight every day that has been debunked by intelligence

:01:05. > :01:08.individuals, members of Congress who have been briefed over and over

:01:09. > :01:11.again. That is where I think he is concerned as well as many American

:01:12. > :01:15.people who are concerned that there is this false narrative being

:01:16. > :01:23.perpetuated out there. That is the knot of this. I talked to a former

:01:24. > :01:26.FBI official today who said that the President's implicit threat to

:01:27. > :01:30.former FBI director James Comey indicates that the president is in

:01:31. > :01:37.head words out of control. I would like you to respond to that. Is he?

:01:38. > :01:41.That is frankly offensive. Two questions about the FBI's director

:01:42. > :01:45.selection process. You said the names are coming from the Justice

:01:46. > :01:51.Department right now. Is the president consulting with Democratic

:01:52. > :01:56.congressional leaders as well, or Republican congressional leaders on

:01:57. > :02:01.this, or is he just getting names? That is a good question. I know that

:02:02. > :02:04.obviously he will take input from them. I do not know what

:02:05. > :02:06.conversations he has had so I will be glad to check on who he has

:02:07. > :02:21.spoken to or maybe speaking to. So that is Sean Spicer, the White

:02:22. > :02:25.House press secretary speaking there and refusing to comment on a lot of

:02:26. > :02:29.questions that have been put to him by the press that are gathered,

:02:30. > :02:37.mainly saying that he cannot comment on these tapes that President Trump

:02:38. > :02:45.himself mentioned on Twitter. No further comment from Mr Trump on

:02:46. > :02:49.James Comey, the head of the FBI and his firing and not aware of any

:02:50. > :02:56.recordings that were made either. So here is some of what Sean Spicer had

:02:57. > :03:00.to say earlier. Did President Trump record his conversations with former

:03:01. > :03:04.FBI director James Comey? I assume you are referring to the tweet and I

:03:05. > :03:09.have spoken to the president and he has nothing further to add on that.

:03:10. > :03:12.Why did he say that and what should we interpret from that? As I said,

:03:13. > :03:18.he has nothing further to add on that. Are their recording devices in

:03:19. > :03:21.the oval office? For a third time, there is nothing further to add on

:03:22. > :03:27.that. Does he think it is appropriate to threaten someone like

:03:28. > :03:31.James Comey? I did not dig it is a direct. He has simply stated a fact.

:03:32. > :03:55.-- I do not think it is a threat. We now go to our correspondence. I

:03:56. > :03:58.think the tweet warned James Comey against linking any information

:03:59. > :04:01.because he would have hoped there were not any recordings. That sounds

:04:02. > :04:05.and read like a threat to the rest of the world so it is not clear what

:04:06. > :04:08.was meant by that and what he was intending on whether he has any

:04:09. > :04:12.tapes of these conversations and certainly the whole mention of

:04:13. > :04:17.takes, even in quotation marks in his tweet, is absolutely reminiscent

:04:18. > :04:22.of the next in Iraq, something he has been accused of emulating this

:04:23. > :04:30.week in the treatment of James Comey himself. -- emulating the Nixon era.

:04:31. > :04:33.Were shocked by the tweet saying he was thinking of cancelling the White

:04:34. > :04:37.House briefings, because up until recently we did not know this was

:04:38. > :04:42.going to happen? The tweet went out first thing on Friday morning. No, I

:04:43. > :04:48.am not shocked by that because he has an absolute love- hate

:04:49. > :04:52.relationship with the publicity machine, with the media machine. It

:04:53. > :04:55.is something he drives off of and also something that he despises as

:04:56. > :04:59.per players of fake news, as he would put it. I think was more

:05:00. > :05:05.shocking was the other tweaks this morning where he said there will --

:05:06. > :05:11.although I am an active president, you can't expect people to go one

:05:12. > :05:15.speak on my heart and to always speak with perfect accuracy. In

:05:16. > :05:22.other words, inviting people to be sceptical or doubtful about what

:05:23. > :05:25.they hear coming out of the spokesman's mouth. Now, journalists

:05:26. > :05:31.tend to be doubtful and sceptical people. That is in the nature of the

:05:32. > :05:36.job. But you do not normally you the other side saying, "Don't believe

:05:37. > :05:40.every word we say." We heard anything further about James Comey

:05:41. > :05:49.and his firing, because he is now saying that it was all his decision.

:05:50. > :05:54.James Comey has not given any interview since his firing and I

:05:55. > :05:59.would be surprised if he does any time soon. Some of his friends have

:06:00. > :06:03.been suggesting that any dinner back in January the president asked him

:06:04. > :06:08.for a pledge of loyalty, which he declined to give. That is also the

:06:09. > :06:12.dinner where the president says James Comey gave him an assurance he

:06:13. > :06:16.was not being investigated and there is lots of disagreement there but we

:06:17. > :06:21.will certainly wait with bated breath for any account that James

:06:22. > :06:25.Comey decides to give of his firing because so far we have had just a

:06:26. > :06:30.letter that he wrote to his staff saying presidents can sack FBI

:06:31. > :06:31.director is for no reason or any reason. OK, we will leave it there

:06:32. > :06:34.for now. The United States and China have

:06:35. > :06:38.announced a trade deal. The unexpected agreement gives US

:06:39. > :06:40.farmers, energy companies and financial services access

:06:41. > :06:45.to China's huge market. It also reflects the warming

:06:46. > :06:49.in relations between Our business correspondent

:06:50. > :06:53.Karishma Vaswani has more. broadly speaking it gives American

:06:54. > :07:02.credit rating agencies and credit card companies, financial services

:07:03. > :07:04.basically, access to China's all-important market,

:07:05. > :07:07.the middle-class. In particular, American beef

:07:08. > :07:10.exporters will also be able to sell their products in China

:07:11. > :07:13.after years of being banned and China will also accept shipments

:07:14. > :07:19.of US liquefied natural gas. Now, in return, China

:07:20. > :07:21.gets to sell its cooked poultry products to the US,

:07:22. > :07:24.but frankly, this isn't just a deal Now, typically the criticism

:07:25. > :07:32.from foreign investors who are doing business in China, they

:07:33. > :07:35.say that it is usually China that It is what President Trump

:07:36. > :07:42.has been saying on the campaign trail,

:07:43. > :07:44.and he has promise to make China play by

:07:45. > :07:45.the rules again and open up its markets

:07:46. > :07:51.to American businesses. This deal looks like

:07:52. > :07:57.he has gone some way to getting what he wants,

:07:58. > :07:59.but Beijing isn't one to give This weekend, China is hosting

:08:00. > :08:03.the one belt, one road Basically its coming out party

:08:04. > :08:06.to the world, if you will. And it wants global

:08:07. > :08:08.recognition for this Now, part of this trade deal

:08:09. > :08:12.includes the US sending some of its representatives to the summit,

:08:13. > :08:14.something that previous Soldiers in Ivory Coast have opened

:08:15. > :08:25.fire in at least five military They're shooting in the air

:08:26. > :08:29.in protest at a deal made with the government to scrap plans

:08:30. > :08:34.to give them back pay and bonuses. It follows a televised apology

:08:35. > :08:36.by a spokesman for the soldiers Candidates in Iran's presidential

:08:37. > :08:45.election exchanged barbs in their final debate on Friday,

:08:46. > :08:48.accusing each other of corruption The current president Hassan Rouhani

:08:49. > :08:53.is contesting the election, to be held next week,

:08:54. > :09:00.along with five other candidates. European officials are discussing

:09:01. > :09:03.with the US whether to broaden The US brought in restrictions

:09:04. > :09:08.in March forbidding passengers from carrying laptops in their hand

:09:09. > :09:11.luggage if they were travelling The UK announced

:09:12. > :09:16.a similar ban soon after. US officials have already

:09:17. > :09:18.warned that the ban Hospitals across England have

:09:19. > :09:27.been simultaneously hit Hospitals across England have

:09:28. > :09:38.been simultaneously hit A short time ago, the Incident

:09:39. > :09:42.Director of the National Health service issued a statement

:09:43. > :09:46.to reassure patients they WILL be able to access emergency services

:09:47. > :09:49.in the same way they normally A computer virus has caused IT

:09:50. > :09:53.systems to fail and has led to many of hospitals having

:09:54. > :09:55.to divert emergency patients. It appears organisations

:09:56. > :09:57.in other countries may have A major incident has been declared

:09:58. > :10:05.by NHS leaders in England and hospitals like this one

:10:06. > :10:07.in Colchester have been experiencing serious computer problems

:10:08. > :10:13.after a cyber attack. inside the door said that

:10:14. > :10:20.all the computers have gone down, and they are not sure

:10:21. > :10:26.whether the doctors can If it is x-rays,

:10:27. > :10:29.breakages, what have you, hospital trust covering

:10:30. > :10:42.North Lincolnshire, IT systems were closed for three days

:10:46. > :10:53.appointments were postponed, people were told to get to A

:10:54. > :10:56.only if it was really necessary, there were warnings that

:10:57. > :11:01.NHS IT was And today staff looking in at other

:11:02. > :11:05.hospitals found this on their screens, with a message

:11:06. > :11:07.saying, your files are encrypted, if you want to recover them,

:11:08. > :11:10.you need to pay up. Ransomware, a hidden

:11:11. > :11:11.programme used by criminal The NHS is vulnerable,

:11:12. > :11:14.because typically it has not invested enough in computer

:11:15. > :11:17.security, using old computers and systems and if they don't keep them

:11:18. > :11:19.properly patched they will keep In a statement, NHS Digital,

:11:20. > :11:43.responsible for IT, has said: One doctor at this hospital

:11:44. > :11:46.in Mansfield told us how it was a patient with severe back pain,

:11:47. > :11:52.which could potentially And we had to divert her

:11:53. > :11:56.to another hospital, Queens It is getting a bit

:11:57. > :12:09.difficult for us. It takes an awful lot of time

:12:10. > :12:14.for us to process the Some hospitals warned

:12:15. > :12:16.local people they were experiencing significant IT

:12:17. > :12:18.and telephone problems. Some GP practices have also reported

:12:19. > :12:38.significant problems. We will bring you some breaking news

:12:39. > :12:43.and it appears that Italy's highest court has upheld the 16 year jail

:12:44. > :12:51.sentence that was imposed on the captain of the shipwrecked cruise

:12:52. > :12:56.liner, the Costa Concordia. 32 people died when the vessel hit the

:12:57. > :13:02.rocks of the Italian island in January 2000 and 12. The captain was

:13:03. > :13:11.also convicted of abandoning ship before his passengers and crew were

:13:12. > :13:17.clear of the Costa Concordia itself. James Reynolds is in Rome for us.

:13:18. > :13:20.James, just tell us what took place today in court. This was the

:13:21. > :13:26.definitive ruling by Italy's highest court. It had to consider an earlier

:13:27. > :13:30.ruling by a lower court, which had convicted the captain on multiple

:13:31. > :13:33.counts of manslaughter, on causing a maritime accident and abandoning a

:13:34. > :13:37.ship before its passengers and crew were safe. Italy's highest court has

:13:38. > :13:42.decided that that sentence and verdict is sound. That comment of

:13:43. > :13:49.Italy's justice system, is that. It now means that the captain will

:13:50. > :13:52.begin to serve his 16 year sentence. Under the way that Italian law

:13:53. > :13:55.works, you did not have deserved his sentence until it was finally

:13:56. > :13:59.concluded. It has now been concluded. His lawyer says that he

:14:00. > :14:03.is on his way to hand himself in to begin serving his sentence. Have we

:14:04. > :14:08.had any reaction yet from the family of those who died? A lawyer spoke on

:14:09. > :14:13.the steps of the court, saying that this is finally justice at last.

:14:14. > :14:16.They're in mind, of course, this was more than five years ago that this

:14:17. > :14:20.happened and the captain throughout the time has suggested that he was

:14:21. > :14:24.not to blame. The families disagreed. Now, essentially, the

:14:25. > :14:28.court has sided with the families, saying that the captain's bad

:14:29. > :14:32.handling of the ship, his decision not to steal it properly, his

:14:33. > :14:37.decision to abandon the ship before everyone was safe, is an issue for

:14:38. > :14:42.which he has deserved 16 years in prison. And Italy itself, of course,

:14:43. > :14:49.I am just thinking ahead to the sort of reaction that would have been put

:14:50. > :14:52.into place in terms of safety of other cruise liners. Has there been

:14:53. > :14:58.any such reaction since the incident? There have been a lot of

:14:59. > :15:05.investigations and thoughts about how the cruise industry might try to

:15:06. > :15:10.work and that particular operator was fined 1 million euros. But by

:15:11. > :15:13.and large, this court's verdict was about the actions of one man. It was

:15:14. > :15:18.about his bad decision-making on that night and Italy's justice

:15:19. > :15:23.system has concluded that his actions caused the death of 32

:15:24. > :15:30.people. James Reynolds in Rome. Thank you for that.

:15:31. > :15:33.In Venezuela people are continuing to take to the streets

:15:34. > :15:34.in their thousands to protest against the government.

:15:35. > :15:37.The situation is becoming increasingly violent as riot police

:15:38. > :15:40.Over the past month nearly 40 people have been killed.

:15:41. > :15:42.Vladimir Hernandez has spent a day out on the streets

:15:43. > :15:53.Scenes like these in Caracas are happening almost every day.

:15:54. > :15:55.Thousands of Venezuelans are taking to the streets all around the

:15:56. > :16:00.These people are asking for a fresh election against President

:16:01. > :16:07.The inflation rate is estimated to be at over 700%, and

:16:08. > :16:20."I am angry because of the economic crisis," this man says.

:16:21. > :16:26."I want to recover the country where I grew up," this woman says.

:16:27. > :16:27.And this young student says she doesn't want

:16:28. > :16:31.more young people dying in the protests.

:16:32. > :16:38.But, like so often, it is not long before things turn nasty.

:16:39. > :16:40.And this is what protesters here in Caracas get every time

:16:41. > :16:50.The National Guard throwing tear gas at them.

:16:51. > :16:59.The Government says they are cracking

:17:00. > :17:01.down on unauthorised protests and accused the political

:17:02. > :17:06.down on unauthorised protests and accused the political

:17:56. > :18:00.political unrest here. Away from the protest, I have come to one of

:18:01. > :18:05.Caracas most deprived areas. I am here to meet a demonstrator who lost

:18:06. > :18:14.a kidney over a week ago after he says being shot at a protest. When I

:18:15. > :18:19.reached his home, we watch the video which showed the moment of death of

:18:20. > :18:27.a fellow protest. He later told me that this had been the first time he

:18:28. > :18:31.had cried in a decade. TRANSLATION: We need to keep

:18:32. > :18:34.fighting, but we need to find an alternative, because they are

:18:35. > :18:40.killing us. It is guns against rocks. Despite the rising

:18:41. > :18:45.casualties, more protests are planned for the coming days, and

:18:46. > :18:48.with the economy in such dire straits, more and more Venezuelans

:18:49. > :18:50.say they are willing to take the risk because they have nothing left

:18:51. > :18:52.to lose. South Africa has been hit by violent

:18:53. > :18:56.demonstrations this week. Protestors demanding houses and jobs

:18:57. > :19:00.have been clashing with police in several townships south

:19:01. > :19:03.of Johannesburg, putting pressure of President Jacob Zuma's government

:19:04. > :19:08.to deliver on election promises. At least 70 people have been

:19:09. > :19:12.arrested for public violence. The government has admitted

:19:13. > :19:14.that the issues behind the latest wave of protests are genuine

:19:15. > :19:17.and deserve a response. Nomsa Maseko reports

:19:18. > :19:23.from Johannesburg. A sense of calm returns

:19:24. > :19:28.following days of protests. The demonstrations were led

:19:29. > :19:33.by communities who feel marginalised and neglected,

:19:34. > :19:35.protesters up in arms over The week-long unrest,

:19:36. > :19:44.dubbed service delivery protests, Poverty and stubbornly high

:20:06. > :20:07.of Johannesburg feels unheard Some have even openly declared that

:20:08. > :20:13.life was better under white minority rule while others say

:20:14. > :20:19.the protests are justified. The government must act to build

:20:20. > :20:24.houses firstly, then the community, but take the government seriously,

:20:25. > :20:27.but if they don't start, we will not stop until our

:20:28. > :20:33.demands have been met. But our protests in South Africa

:20:34. > :20:39.is to start to build. Locate the streets, no cars pass,

:20:40. > :20:41.no-one goes to work, That is how we put this

:20:42. > :20:48.government in action. This woman has been on the housing

:20:49. > :20:51.waiting list for more than 20 years. She lives in a one-bedroom house

:20:52. > :20:56.with family members. I feel frustrated, I feel very

:20:57. > :21:02.disappointed in all of this. Now because of us young people

:21:03. > :21:05.who can't get houses, we have You vote for houses

:21:06. > :21:12.you don't get the house, you vote for jobs, you don't get

:21:13. > :21:16.a job so it hasn't helped. I don't know what to say but I'm

:21:17. > :21:20.struggling with my children. It's only my disability grant

:21:21. > :21:26.for this little money. There are concerns that

:21:27. > :21:29.criminal elements are infiltrating these protests

:21:30. > :21:34.but the grievances remain genuine. Like many communities

:21:35. > :21:37.in South Africa, most people just want a piece of land to build

:21:38. > :21:41.a house on - a simple request that successive administrations

:21:42. > :21:45.have failed to address. Corruption is often cited

:21:46. > :21:47.as the reason why the government appears unable to deliver

:21:48. > :21:49.on the many promises NASA's 200th spacewalk outside

:21:50. > :22:01.the International Space Station has been marred by problems

:22:07. > :22:14.to replace an electronics box and install equipment to fix

:22:15. > :22:19.a cooling system problem during the walk which was expected

:22:20. > :22:22.to last 6-and-a-half hours. The mission was shortened

:22:23. > :22:24.because of reduced battery NASA says the two astronaughts

:22:25. > :22:32.had to share a vital cable supplying power,

:22:33. > :22:33.oxygen, cooling water and communications, after one
