:01:21. > :01:24.More than 100,000 supporters of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had

:01:25. > :01:28.gathered in the northern town of Panchkula ahead of the verdict,

:01:29. > :01:31.which saw the guru found guilty of raping two female members

:01:32. > :01:36.Thousands of his devotees went on the rampage after the verdict,

:02:03. > :02:05.Violence broke out almost as soon as the guilty verdict was handed

:02:06. > :02:08.down by the court in this town in north India.

:02:09. > :02:12.More than 100,000 followers of the self-styled

:02:13. > :02:18.godman guru had flocked to demonstrate their support.

:02:19. > :02:20.They went on the rampage, burning cars and attacking the police,

:02:21. > :02:23.who responded with tear gas and water cannon.

:02:24. > :02:27.When that didn't subdue the crowd, they fired live ammunition and there

:02:28. > :02:34.This train was torched by an angry mob here

:02:35. > :02:36.in the Indian capital, Delhi.

:02:37. > :02:39.Elsewhere in the city, buses have been set on fire.

:02:40. > :02:41.The guru has an absolutely enormous following.

:02:42. > :02:50.The fear is that violence could spread in north India.

:02:51. > :02:53.Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is a charismatic figure.

:02:54. > :02:57.He calls himself the messenger of God, sports a huge beard, and has

:02:58. > :03:03.He has been dubbed the baba of bling, and starred

:03:04. > :03:07.And despite his extraordinary appearance, he is regarded

:03:08. > :03:13.as a living saint by many of his followers.

:03:14. > :03:16.This is the latest in a series of scandals here in India

:03:17. > :03:21.involving ascetics who claim exceptional spiritual powers.

:03:22. > :03:25.Guru Ram Rahim says sect is a social welfare and spiritual group,

:03:26. > :03:29.but he has been accused of involvement in murder,

:03:30. > :03:32.and it is also claimed he persuaded 400 of his acolytes to have

:03:33. > :03:36.themselves castrated in order to get closer to God.

:03:37. > :03:39.It's that kind of devotion that explains the scale and intensity

:03:40. > :03:42.of the violence here in North India, but also why the authorities

:03:43. > :04:01.Let's get more on this. With me is our correspondent. Welcome. What is

:04:02. > :04:05.the latest on at the moment because it is night-time in India the

:04:06. > :04:10.situation is under but still very tense. On the service it looks as

:04:11. > :04:14.though there is no large-scale violence but there are still small

:04:15. > :04:19.incident is being reported, large parts of north India are under

:04:20. > :04:21.lockdown so it has affected train services, bus services, people were

:04:22. > :04:26.asked to leave their offices early, even as far as in the capital in

:04:27. > :04:31.Delhi which is now, not sort of next door when all of this happened, but

:04:32. > :04:35.the tension is quite palpable still there. A lot of troops as a low

:04:36. > :04:43.security forces on the ground, more than 2000 people have been arrested.

:04:44. > :04:52.Including birds but Zabaleta is riveting order meaning people are

:04:53. > :04:55.not allowed to gather together as it could lead to violence and classes.

:04:56. > :05:01.We are waiting for the whole of the weekend and the actual sentence will

:05:02. > :05:04.be given on Monday, it could be delayed. There is still a lot the

:05:05. > :05:10.security forces to deal with given there is a massive following. He is

:05:11. > :05:14.a very popular man as we were seeing in the report. Tens of thousands,

:05:15. > :05:18.millions of followers he says around the world. Was this violence to be

:05:19. > :05:24.expected in any way? With the Government perhaps forewarned or

:05:25. > :05:29.armed with this? To be honest this was expected, most news reports

:05:30. > :05:33.start with just as expected given his huge followings are a lot of

:05:34. > :05:36.criticism that the administration was underprepared. They were not

:05:37. > :05:39.caught unaware but could they have prepared better for this? About is

:05:40. > :05:43.what is being questioned. The Prime Minister and saying he is quick to

:05:44. > :05:49.stress of that but a lot of people have said the Government should have

:05:50. > :05:52.done enough to make sure that there is another security on the ground.

:05:53. > :05:57.The Chief minister of that state has been quite heavily criticised for

:05:58. > :06:00.this. But if you look at what is opening on the streets, you look at

:06:01. > :06:04.these pictures of violence but on the other hand if you turn to social

:06:05. > :06:11.media, people are coming out and criticising massively here is a

:06:12. > :06:16.person has been convicted of rape, of two women, and this is the kind

:06:17. > :06:19.of support but India and people in India chauffeur them so that is a

:06:20. > :06:24.lot of anger and most people, what is the kind of image that it is

:06:25. > :06:27.showcasing and what is the Government is doing? 28 people have

:06:28. > :06:30.been allowed to die in this kind of perhaps preventable situation. Thank

:06:31. > :06:31.you. A court has found two white

:06:32. > :06:34.South African farmers guilty of attempted murder

:06:35. > :06:36.after they forced a black man into a coffin and threatened

:06:37. > :06:38.to burn him alive. The judge said it was clear

:06:39. > :06:41.Willem Oosthuizen and Theo Jackson had intended to kill Victor

:06:42. > :06:43.Mlotshwa. The two farmers were arrested

:06:44. > :06:45.after a video of the attack The video of the assault caused

:06:46. > :06:57.outrage here in South Africa. It once again highlighted racial

:06:58. > :07:02.tensions in farming communities. Two white farmers shoving

:07:03. > :07:04.a black man into a coffin, They accused him of

:07:05. > :07:13.trespassing on their farm. The two men were arrested

:07:14. > :07:16.after the video of the attack was widely circulated

:07:17. > :07:19.on social media. They said they only wanted

:07:20. > :07:22.to teach the victim, Victor Mlotshwa, a lesson,

:07:23. > :07:26.and that they meant him no harm. But the judge dismissed the claim,

:07:27. > :07:28.saying it was clear that their intention

:07:29. > :07:33.was to commit murder. In relation to the attempted

:07:34. > :07:37.murder of Victor Mlotshwa, In the intent to cause grievous

:07:38. > :07:42.bodily harm to Victor Mlotshwa, Shortly after the verdict

:07:43. > :07:51.was delivered here in court, the visibly emotional victim,

:07:52. > :07:55.Victor Mlotshwa, told me that he was relieved that justice

:07:56. > :08:00.has finally been served. Victor Mlotshwa's mother

:08:01. > :08:05.welcomed the ruling. TRANSLATION: All I am

:08:06. > :08:08.asking is for harsh prison The ordeal left my son deeply

:08:09. > :08:14.traumatised and I am happy that his attackers have

:08:15. > :08:18.been found guilty. Various political parties'

:08:19. > :08:21.supporters protested The convicted men will be sentenced

:08:22. > :08:28.in two months' time. Many who attended the trial

:08:29. > :08:31.are hoping the judge The United States has

:08:32. > :08:41.announced new financial sanctions against Venezuela,

:08:42. > :08:43.designed to further isolate The measure bans dealing

:08:51. > :08:52.including the state-owned Earlier this month

:08:53. > :08:56.the US imposed sanctions on President Maduro himself -

:08:57. > :09:12.and some of his closed aides - We have just had reaction from

:09:13. > :09:18.Venezuela to this latest action from the US. The Foreign Minister of

:09:19. > :09:22.their has accused Washington of trying to stoke a humanitarian

:09:23. > :09:27.crisis. He said, we don't understand it and he has said that they vowed

:09:28. > :09:32.the Government of President Nicolas Maduro would defend itself. The US

:09:33. > :09:35.ambassador to the United States Nikki Haley said Washington was

:09:36. > :09:40.determined to maintain pressure on Venezuela. It is a strong message

:09:41. > :09:45.that the people of Venezuela and it is a strong message to President

:09:46. > :09:49.Maduro. We are not going to tolerate the dictatorship years trying to

:09:50. > :09:55.create and we will not respect the Assembly. Because we are not seeing

:09:56. > :09:58.any progress towards lifting up the Venezuelan people and we see more of

:09:59. > :10:01.the power grab that President Maduro is trying to do, sanctions are

:10:02. > :10:05.another option to send him a message. The billionaire

:10:06. > :10:08.vice-chairman of Samsung has been found guilty of bribery and

:10:09. > :10:13.embezzlement and sentenced to five years in prison. He was accused of

:10:14. > :10:17.making inappropriate donations worth around $6 million to be close

:10:18. > :10:21.confidant of the country's former president in exchange for government

:10:22. > :10:28.favours. One of those accusations also helped trigger the dismissal of

:10:29. > :10:29.the president from office. From Seoul, a warning, this report

:10:30. > :10:30.contains flash photography. Jae-Yong Lee is one of the most

:10:31. > :10:33.powerful businessmen in the world. Now he's facing a jail sentence

:10:34. > :10:36.that is among the longest ever given Mr Lee, has been found

:10:37. > :10:40.guilty of paying bribes His lawyers say they will

:10:41. > :10:47.go to a higher court. TRANSLATION: As a lawyer, I cannot

:10:48. > :10:50.accept any of the legal judgment, We will make an appeal immediately

:10:51. > :10:54.and we are confident The case is part of a major

:10:55. > :11:04.corruption scandal which erupted in South Korea late last year

:11:05. > :11:08.and evoked public anger. Tens of thousands came

:11:09. > :11:12.out on the streets. And that triggered

:11:13. > :11:14.the removal of the country's she was accused of allowing her

:11:15. > :11:20.close friend to accept donations from South Korea's large

:11:21. > :11:21.conglomerates in return Outside court on Friday,

:11:22. > :11:29.anti-corruption protesters gathered once again as the verdict

:11:30. > :11:36.was being delivered. "Samsung is evil",

:11:37. > :11:38.one woman shouted. But there were others who were

:11:39. > :11:47.unhappy with the court's decision. She, and a group of Park Geun-hye

:11:48. > :11:50.supporters, think the whole verdict is part of a government plan

:11:51. > :11:53.to eventually prove that the former The verdict that come from this

:11:54. > :12:01.court room is about so much more If Mr Lee's sentence is upheld,

:12:02. > :12:05.and one of the most powerful businessmen of this country actually

:12:06. > :12:07.has to spend a significant amount of time in jail,

:12:08. > :12:12.it could be a turning point for the relationship

:12:13. > :12:16.between South Korea's big firms Large conglomerates like Samsung

:12:17. > :12:23.dominate South Korea's economy and so, even when they've been found

:12:24. > :12:26.guilty of corruption in the past, The country's new government though,

:12:27. > :12:32.has promised to take And Jae-Yong Lee's trial

:12:33. > :12:47.could be just the start. The governor of Texas has expected

:12:48. > :12:53.to hold a news conference shortly before the state is battered by an

:12:54. > :12:57.ever strengthening storm. McCain Harvey is churning off because as a

:12:58. > :13:01.category two storm and could be the worst there in years. As well as

:13:02. > :13:02.those heavy winds officials say it could also bring life-threatening

:13:03. > :13:03.flooding. Dawn Champion has been braving

:13:04. > :13:13.the winds in Corpus Christi, I think that we don't even need

:13:14. > :13:19.words to understand what is going on there to stop tell us how strong

:13:20. > :13:24.those wins art. Good evening. Within the past two hours we started to

:13:25. > :13:31.peel the tropical storm force winds move into this part of the Texas

:13:32. > :13:36.Gulf Coast. Of course that is a sign that Harvey is churning ever closer

:13:37. > :13:40.to this region. As you mentioned it is expected to be catastrophic for

:13:41. > :13:45.this part of the United States. Take a look behind me. This is the Baker

:13:46. > :13:53.in Corpus Christi. This morning the water was much lower than it is now.

:13:54. > :13:56.I chatted before coming on air and the storage -- storm surge is

:13:57. > :14:01.already up two beat and they want is starting to splash with this blog.

:14:02. > :14:04.By the end of this weekend I can guarantee that this very spot I am

:14:05. > :14:09.standing and will very likely be under several feet of water as the

:14:10. > :14:17.storm surge just inundate these coastal areas, before Harvey makes

:14:18. > :14:22.landfall. The storm is expected to strengthen even more before making

:14:23. > :14:26.landfall sometime tonight or early Saturday morning just north of where

:14:27. > :14:30.I am standing. The big danger and the big thing that officials are

:14:31. > :14:36.worried about here in this region is the flooding that is expected with

:14:37. > :14:39.the storm. More than 30 inches of rain is quite possible in parts of

:14:40. > :14:44.this region. Just to give you an idea of how much that is the city of

:14:45. > :14:48.Corpus Christi typically gets 30 inches of rain in just a year. They

:14:49. > :14:56.are going to get that amount of rain in a matter of a few days here.

:14:57. > :15:01.Actually they are very concerned and it is very serious for officials

:15:02. > :15:06.here. As you can see behind me, remarkably there are still plenty of

:15:07. > :15:10.people here who have decided to stay put and tried to ride out the storm.

:15:11. > :15:15.A lot of them coming over here to the coastal area are taking

:15:16. > :15:18.pictures, just taking in the side. Certainly this will grow ever more

:15:19. > :15:24.dangerous for these bugs who dared to do this as the day wears on here.

:15:25. > :15:29.This is something the governor here in Texas has been going on local

:15:30. > :15:32.media discussing all morning long telling these folks that time is

:15:33. > :15:36.literally running out for them to get out of this region safely. Stay

:15:37. > :15:41.safe. Thank you. It is one of the most anticipated

:15:42. > :15:44.boxing matches in history - former world champion boxer

:15:45. > :15:47.Floyd Mayweather is coming out of retirement to fight mixed martial

:15:48. > :15:49.arts champion Conor McGregor. Mayweather is undefeated

:15:50. > :15:51.in his professional career. Our BBC Sport correspondent

:15:52. > :16:05.Richard Conway is in Las Vegas. Richard, we are expecting that way

:16:06. > :16:09.in any time soon but all anyone is talking about here is the money.

:16:10. > :16:12.Hundreds of millions of dollars at stake for both fighters here. If the

:16:13. > :16:19.dollar but the money or is it really about some showmanship as well? If

:16:20. > :16:24.you talk to both Callum McGregor and Floyd Mayweather they are

:16:25. > :16:29.unapologetic about the cash. Floyd Mayweather telling me earlier this

:16:30. > :16:33.week that he wouldn't have taken any other site because it wouldn't have

:16:34. > :16:36.paid him not. This matchup offers assemblage chants he deals to make

:16:37. > :16:40.hundreds of millions of dollars. The exact figures are hard to pin down.

:16:41. > :16:45.It depends on the number of pay-per-view burgesses for TV and

:16:46. > :16:50.the details in the contract. Floyd Mayweather insisting he will be a

:16:51. > :16:55.very rich man or even richer we should say after Saturday night. So

:16:56. > :16:59.to four, McGregor. At the heart of it there is annexed in treating

:17:00. > :17:05.sporting contest here. Questioning the legitimacy of the bad given the

:17:06. > :17:13.overriding focus on the money, a lot of people, but this is a class of

:17:14. > :17:16.styles, Floyd Mayweather -- Floyd Mayweather one of the greatest

:17:17. > :17:20.boxers of his generation. The talking is nearly done. The way in

:17:21. > :17:27.will happen soon and on Saturday night both men will it in the ring

:17:28. > :17:33.to see who is the better man. All will be revealed in 24 hours' time.

:17:34. > :17:38.Thank you. It is a week since the terror attacks in Barcelona which

:17:39. > :17:41.killed 15 people. The initial unity between the Spanish government and

:17:42. > :17:44.Madrid and the autonomous government in Catalonia which ones to hold a

:17:45. > :17:48.referendum on independence in a month's time has been replaced with

:17:49. > :17:50.finger-pointing over which police force missed information about the

:17:51. > :18:01.terrorist plots. Tom Burrows reports. Still bustling. Tourists

:18:02. > :18:08.and locals paying their respects. In the town where the attackers lived,

:18:09. > :18:12.a father insisting on never saw any sign that two of his boys were

:18:13. > :18:18.planning to kill. One of his sons looking relaxed here shopping. Hours

:18:19. > :18:25.later they would attack tourists in a coastal resort. The football pitch

:18:26. > :18:30.they used to play on. Opposite the family house of the van driver. Some

:18:31. > :18:33.of those who knew the men didn't want to go on camera. This man grew

:18:34. > :18:39.up with one of the group. He was a colleague to the attacks.

:18:40. > :18:42.TRANSLATION: All of those who ended up as terrorists and their

:18:43. > :18:49.afternoons here, they seemed like normal guys. There was nothing

:18:50. > :18:55.strange. We have spoken to a group of women who have just come out of

:18:56. > :18:58.the family home, in fact the woman's own children went to the same mosque

:18:59. > :19:03.and were taught by the same preacher. They say they never heard

:19:04. > :19:08.or saw anything to suggest he was the ringleader of a terror plot. But

:19:23. > :19:29.sources suggesting the fault lies with the National Security agencies

:19:34. > :19:39.cross to sit down in front of the television and watched the police

:19:40. > :19:44.fighting between each other and doing this playground conflict. We

:19:45. > :19:47.have to be united and not show this image of lack of coordination and

:19:48. > :19:56.division, because the terrorist want this. Pro-independence Catalan flags

:19:57. > :19:59.hang in Barcelona. One month before the autonomous government here plans

:20:00. > :20:05.what Spain says will be an illegal independence referendum. A city and

:20:06. > :20:06.a country united in grief, but political divisions have revealed

:20:07. > :20:12.cracks in policing. Let's take a look at some of

:20:13. > :20:15.the other stories making the news... At least 14 people,

:20:21. > :20:23.in the south of the city, which is controlled by Houthi

:20:28. > :20:33.hours before a verdict was to be delivered in her trial

:20:34. > :20:34.for criminal negligence. She faces up to ten years in jail

:20:35. > :20:48.over a rice subsidy scheme. More than 20 people have been killed

:20:49. > :20:52.in an attack in an attack on a Shia mosque in Kabul as they gathered

:20:53. > :20:56.after impress. A suicide bomber blew himself up outside the mosque. Two

:20:57. > :21:01.gunmen stormed the building and were killed by special forces after a

:21:02. > :21:02.siege lasting several hours. A white convicted...

:21:03. > :21:04.A white supremacist convicted of racially motivated Moors three

:21:05. > :21:06.decades ago in Florida has been executed by lethal injection.

:21:07. > :21:09.Mark Asay is the first white man in state history to be executed

:21:23. > :21:26.The technology has already been tested elsewhere in Europe

:21:27. > :21:29.Supporters say it will mean cheaper fuel hills, lower emissions

:21:30. > :21:35.Our correspondent Richard Lister looks at how it will work.

:21:36. > :21:37.This could be the future, the driver in the second

:21:38. > :21:40.lorry is only steering, his speed is controlled

:21:41. > :21:44.by a computer, which is monitoring what the lead driver does.

:21:45. > :21:50.These Dutch trials suggest lorries, linked by Wi-Fi like this,

:21:51. > :21:54.can drive much closer together, and that may have benefits.

:21:55. > :21:58.That means 10% less fuel, that's money off yours

:21:59. > :22:05.It's 10% less CO2, so we're going to be really helping the planet.

:22:06. > :22:07.Congestion, if we get platooning, vehicles are running smoother

:22:08. > :22:10.together, we're not going to get the traffic jams we have

:22:11. > :22:15.We're going have robots and sensors not making mistakes hopefully that

:22:16. > :22:19.This is one of the specially equipped lorries that'll take part

:22:20. > :22:23.in the British trials - first on test tracks and then,

:22:24. > :22:27.This technology is moving fast, some cars can already

:22:28. > :22:33.The haulage industry wants to catch up.

:22:34. > :22:35.So the big question is, do sophisticated lorries

:22:36. > :22:42.Well, the short answer is, yes, most British roads are too small

:22:43. > :22:44.and too complex for mighty road trains, but vehicles

:22:45. > :22:48.like this could revolutionise long distance haulage.

:22:49. > :22:51.So Daniel, what we're going to do now, is jump into the vehicle

:22:52. > :22:55.and then we'll pull forward and start the exercise.

:22:56. > :22:59.Les is training the next generation of lorry drivers here in Slough.

:23:00. > :23:02.Daniel's almost ready to take his test, neither is keen

:23:06. > :23:08.If a driver sees something is wrong, they can deal with it,

:23:13. > :23:14.I really don't think it's a good idea.

:23:15. > :23:18.We should be fully in control of the vehicles we're driving,

:23:19. > :23:20.there's other road users and you have to account

:23:23. > :23:25.when your driving these size vehicles.

:23:26. > :23:28.The British trials will have three lorries in a platoon,

:23:29. > :23:31.but even that, say some, is too many.

:23:32. > :23:33.UK motorways are the most congested in Europe,

:23:34. > :23:38.we have more entrances and exits and if you've got a platoon

:23:39. > :23:41.of driverless lorries, it's very difficult to see road signs.

:23:42. > :23:45.It'll be difficult to exit the motorway.

:23:46. > :23:47.But with several countries now testing this technology,

:23:50. > :24:05.Planning your funeral is not the curious of topics but here is
