0:00:06 > 0:00:07I'm Samantha Simmonds.

0:00:07 > 0:00:17Our top stories.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20President Trump says the actions of his former top aide pleads guilty

0:00:20 > 0:00:23of lying to the FBI - tweeting that Michael Flynn's

0:00:23 > 0:00:24actions were in fact "lawful".

0:00:24 > 0:00:27But Mr Trump has also scored a big win this weekend after Republicans

0:00:27 > 0:00:29in the Senate pushed through the biggest package

0:00:29 > 0:00:30of tax cuts in decades.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33As clashes erupt again in Yemen, the country's former president -

0:00:33 > 0:00:35whose forces are fighting the Saudi-led coalition -

0:00:35 > 0:00:37says he's ready to talk.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40North Korea's nuclear tests roll on but could they be having some

0:00:40 > 0:00:41unintended consequences?

0:00:41 > 0:00:46We take a look at the environmental impact.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57Hello and welcome to BBC World News.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00President Trump says he fired his former National

0:01:00 > 0:01:03Security Advisor Michael Flynn for lying, but that

0:01:03 > 0:01:07Mr Flynn's work was "lawful".

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Mr Flynn pleaded guilty on Friday to lying to the FBI about his contacts

0:01:10 > 0:01:12with the Russian government.

0:01:12 > 0:01:16The president's comments have turned the focus back to the ongoing

0:01:16 > 0:01:17investigation just hours after what most agree

0:01:17 > 0:01:22is the first big legislative achievement of his presidency.

0:01:22 > 0:01:26His fellow Republicans in the Senate have pushed

0:01:26 > 0:01:29through a sweeping tax bill, which promises a sharp cut

0:01:29 > 0:01:31in corporate taxation, plus cuts for many including some

0:01:31 > 0:01:33the richest people in America.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37Laura Bicker reports from Washington.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40Finally Donald Trump is on course for a much-needed win.

0:01:40 > 0:01:47It looks like he will claim a victory on tax reform.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50We passed the largest tax cuts in this country's history along

0:01:50 > 0:01:52with many other things.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54The vote was close.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57The arm-twisting continued until dawn.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00There were so many last-minute changes to the bill that senators

0:02:00 > 0:02:03had to scribble them in the margins.

0:02:03 > 0:02:04Democrats say the package will benefit big business

0:02:05 > 0:02:06and the wealthy.

0:02:06 > 0:02:07Republicans believe it will slash corporation taxes and

0:02:07 > 0:02:13help the middle classes.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16For Republicans and the president, it was a welcome distraction

0:02:16 > 0:02:21from the other Washington drama.

0:02:21 > 0:02:26Donald Trump's former security adviser Michael Flynn pleading

0:02:26 > 0:02:29guilty to lying about the FBI about his meetings with Russians.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33The former three-star general played a key part in Mr Trump's

0:02:33 > 0:02:35campaign and led this chant about Hillary Clinton

0:02:35 > 0:02:42which will live in infamy.

0:02:42 > 0:02:48If I did a tenth of what she did, I would be in jail today.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51In court, Mr Flynn apologised about lying with his meetings

0:02:51 > 0:02:53with Russians but more

0:02:53 > 0:02:56worryingly for the White House, he will testify that he was told

0:02:56 > 0:03:06to contact Russia by officials.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18One of those is thought to be Donald Trump's son-in-law

0:03:18 > 0:03:19Jared Kushner.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21But the president remains defiant.

0:03:21 > 0:03:22What has been shown is no collusion.

0:03:22 > 0:03:23No collusion.

0:03:23 > 0:03:24Absolutely no collusion.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26So we are very happy.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28President Trump tweeted that he fired General Flynn

0:03:28 > 0:03:30because of his lies and said it was a shame because his

0:03:30 > 0:03:33actions were not unlawful and had nothing to hide.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35This should have been a momentous day for Mr Trump.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37The Republicans finally united behind tax reform but the spectre

0:03:37 > 0:03:39of the Russian investigation continues to loom

0:03:39 > 0:03:47over the White House.

0:03:47 > 0:03:49Natasha Bertrand joins me from New York City.

0:03:49 > 0:03:52She is the political correspondent for Business Insider, and has been

0:03:52 > 0:04:00following the Michael Flynn investigation closely.

0:04:00 > 0:04:05Please just explain where we are up to with all of this and John Potter

0:04:05 > 0:04:13are very latest tweet saying Michael Flynn was sacked because of his

0:04:13 > 0:04:18actions but it was lawful -- Donald Trump's latest tweet.This was

0:04:18 > 0:04:24remarkable. Trump says he fired the National Security adviser Michael

0:04:24 > 0:04:27Flynn because he lied to the vice president but he added something

0:04:27 > 0:04:31interesting that haven't been disclosed before because of he also

0:04:31 > 0:04:37fired him because he lied to the FBI. Legal experts said that is a

0:04:37 > 0:04:40clear indication from news that Flynn had lied to the FBI when he

0:04:40 > 0:04:44asked the former FBI director James Komi to drop the investigation into

0:04:44 > 0:04:52Michael Flynn. That signal intent on Trump's part to obstruct justice,

0:04:52 > 0:04:56this could be legally precarious as he moves forward with the

0:04:56 > 0:05:01investigation which is looking into obstruction.Just explain what

0:05:01 > 0:05:05Michael Flynn is accused or pleaded guilty to doing? He has done a deal

0:05:05 > 0:05:11hasn't he, whereby he is going to we expect get a lesser sentence. This

0:05:11 > 0:05:16will complicate all of this, so explain all of this. It's extremely

0:05:16 > 0:05:22conjugated but basically, Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI

0:05:22 > 0:05:32about talking to Russians. He said he did not disclose the full

0:05:32 > 0:05:37conversation to Russia when he had. The question is why did he lie about

0:05:37 > 0:05:41these conversations at all. People say it would have been acceptable

0:05:41 > 0:05:44for the incoming national Security adviser to discuss sanctions with

0:05:44 > 0:05:50his essentially his counterpart. It is about as major foreign policy

0:05:50 > 0:05:53changes that happened three weeks before the Trump White House was due

0:05:53 > 0:05:59to be coming in. The real question is why Flynn felt the need to live,

0:05:59 > 0:06:07who he was best acting, and who directed him to speak to the Russian

0:06:07 > 0:06:10ambassador about sanctions because those people could be vulnerable.

0:06:10 > 0:06:13Will we get answers to those questions and why does all this

0:06:13 > 0:06:18leave the Trump administration?'S Trump's son-in-law Jared Kusher is

0:06:18 > 0:06:24very bad position because he was communicating with Flynn about

0:06:24 > 0:06:28Russia, had told him from early on with communicating with Russia about

0:06:28 > 0:06:36the UN resolution on Israel. He was looped in, they met in early

0:06:36 > 0:06:39December where they talked about setting up a back channel to Moscow.

0:06:39 > 0:06:44What Flynn could do because he was charged on such a low-level crime,

0:06:44 > 0:06:48it is a federal crime to lie to the FBI but there is so much more that

0:06:48 > 0:06:51he could have gotten to involve. That is an indication that he gave

0:06:52 > 0:06:58can give Muller much bigger fish about people like the president. We

0:06:58 > 0:07:02can expect to see in the coming weeks and months, Muller really

0:07:02 > 0:07:08closing in on Trump's in a circle and potentially getting to president

0:07:08 > 0:07:15himself.Interesting times ahead, thank you. That's Tuchel a reporter

0:07:15 > 0:07:20in Washington, DC, covering Congress. He explains the

0:07:20 > 0:07:26significance of the bill passing. This is the tax bill. It got through

0:07:26 > 0:07:31through the skin of its teeth, didn't it? Explain how important

0:07:31 > 0:07:33victory this isn't how it got through because there's an awful lot

0:07:33 > 0:07:39of last-minute wrangling?It was a 51-49 votes are very slim, it just

0:07:39 > 0:07:46got past. The political ramifications are major. As Laura

0:07:46 > 0:07:49described earlier, this was a much-needed victory for the

0:07:49 > 0:07:52president and it's a first time in the 11 months or so he has been in

0:07:52 > 0:07:56office, that one of his big legislative priorities has got

0:07:56 > 0:07:59through both the house and the Senate. You remember the health care

0:07:59 > 0:08:03battle of the summer, the house passed the version but the Senate

0:08:03 > 0:08:09could not. This is a victory for the president, and the way the Senate

0:08:09 > 0:08:13Republican leadership secured this was adding these sweeteners in the

0:08:13 > 0:08:15legislation that one over certain key senators that were holding out

0:08:15 > 0:08:20up to the last minute. The Democrats are saying that these deals only

0:08:20 > 0:08:25benefit the rich and nonpartisan committee says the measures will add

0:08:25 > 0:08:29$1 trillion to the budget deficit. Republicans say it will benefit

0:08:29 > 0:08:32working families, who is right here? Who will get something out of this?

0:08:32 > 0:08:38A lot of this depends on how the economy ends up going here in the US

0:08:38 > 0:08:43in the coming years. This is a ten year plan and the joint committee on

0:08:43 > 0:08:46taxation report said was that $1 trillion will be added to the

0:08:46 > 0:08:50deficit over the next ten years. Even if you account for economic

0:08:50 > 0:08:54growth. Republicans discount that very strongly. They believe the

0:08:54 > 0:08:58economy will grow as a result of tax cuts and that will bring in more red

0:08:58 > 0:08:58killing

0:08:59 > 0:09:05the government. A lot will rely on the government growing. There were

0:09:05 > 0:09:09trying to figure out a mechanism to raise taxes or cut spending if

0:09:09 > 0:09:15growth does not meet projection. Others did not make it into the

0:09:15 > 0:09:20bill. The Senate ruled it was not allowable in terms of the Senate

0:09:20 > 0:09:23procedure.As you were saying, President Trump badly needed this

0:09:23 > 0:09:28win. But it's not over yet. He wants is enacted before Christmas, there

0:09:28 > 0:09:33could be hurdles along the way?The house and Senate bills are pretty

0:09:33 > 0:09:37different. There are some small and major differences. The major one is

0:09:37 > 0:09:41the Senate version includes a repeal of the individual mandate on

0:09:41 > 0:09:44Obamacare, the Affordable Care Act which is what requires people to pay

0:09:44 > 0:09:48a penalty if they don't buy health insurance. That will have to be

0:09:48 > 0:09:52reconciled. The house could pass the Senate bill and send it to the

0:09:52 > 0:09:56resident desk but the attention from what I'm hearing is they will go to

0:09:56 > 0:09:59a conference committee is the last that I could tell you, I was there

0:09:59 > 0:10:04till 3am at the Capitol, Republican senators were elated, Senator John

0:10:04 > 0:10:08Isaacs and smiled when I asked what have the field to pass this in light

0:10:08 > 0:10:12and does the recent sale is on health care. He said I wasn't a

0:10:12 > 0:10:17great English student but it doesn't get any better than this.

0:10:17 > 0:10:22Republicans are high on it and hope they can get it done by Christmas.

0:10:22 > 0:10:26Thank you.

0:10:26 > 0:10:33Still to come... Jose Mourinho get one over Arsene Wenger as Manchester

0:10:33 > 0:10:36United win against Arsenal in the Premier League.

0:10:44 > 0:10:47Let's take a look at some of the other stories making the news.

0:10:47 > 0:10:49There've been clashes between German police and demonstrators outside

0:10:49 > 0:10:51the far-right Alternative for Germany party conference

0:10:51 > 0:10:52in the city of Hannover.

0:10:52 > 0:10:54Police used water cannon to clear a path for delegates.

0:10:54 > 0:10:56The conference re-elected Joerg Meuthen as a co-chairman,

0:10:56 > 0:11:02a victory for the party's more pragmatic wing.

0:11:02 > 0:11:04The former Egyptian Prime Minister, Ahmed Shafik, is back in Egypt

0:11:04 > 0:11:06after allegedly being deported from the United Arab Emirates.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09His return comes a few days after he declared his intention

0:11:09 > 0:11:13to stand in Egypt's presidential election next year.

0:11:13 > 0:11:16On Thursday, Mr Shafik said he wanted to return to Egypt,

0:11:16 > 0:11:21but the UAE authorities were preventing him.

0:11:21 > 0:11:24The Argentine navy has sent an unmanned search vehicle to check

0:11:24 > 0:11:27what it describes as a deformed shape on the South Atlantic sea bed

0:11:27 > 0:11:30which might be the wreck of the San Juan submarine.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33An international search has failed to find the submarine which had 44

0:11:33 > 0:11:42crew on board when it went missing 17 days ago.

0:11:49 > 0:11:51Because BBC World News today, the latest headlines.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53President Trump has said the actions of his former

0:11:53 > 0:11:55national security advisor, Michael Flynn , who admitted

0:11:55 > 0:11:58to lying to the FBI on Friday , were lawful.

0:11:58 > 0:12:01US Republicans celebrate passing of a sweeping tax reform bill

0:12:01 > 0:12:06but Democrats complain it was a rushed job.

0:12:06 > 0:12:09The Saudi-led coalition has welcomed an offer of talks made

0:12:09 > 0:12:11by Yemen's former President, Ali Abdullah Saleh, whose forces -

0:12:11 > 0:12:14along with the Houthi rebels - have been fighting the coalition

0:12:14 > 0:12:22for more than two years.

0:12:22 > 0:12:25In the past few days, fighting has broken out

0:12:25 > 0:12:26between the former allies.

0:12:26 > 0:12:28Rhodri Davies has more.

0:12:28 > 0:12:33There are only fighters on the street of Yemen's capital. And this

0:12:33 > 0:12:38time, its allies fighting each other. Gunmen loyal to the former

0:12:38 > 0:12:42president Saleh are now trying to force Houthi fighters out of the

0:12:42 > 0:12:51city. The beauty of ancient Sanaa is scarred by bullets. Already a

0:12:51 > 0:12:57complex struggle, it has become even more so. On one side is president

0:12:57 > 0:13:00who has force is control of the land in red. He is backed by Saudi

0:13:00 > 0:13:07Arabia. As and eight other mostly Sunni Arab states. As posing them

0:13:07 > 0:13:11are sheer Houthi rebels who are backed by alarm and have built a

0:13:11 > 0:13:18alliance with Saleh which appears to be breaking down, now fighting the

0:13:18 > 0:13:21Houthis and hinting they could do a deal with Saudi Arabia. It will not

0:13:21 > 0:13:27end. It turns right now but the alliance will continue but the only

0:13:27 > 0:13:31change to happen is that Saleh is more influential, more powerful and

0:13:31 > 0:13:38has the power to announce the initiative to end the Yemen war.A

0:13:38 > 0:13:41critical humanitarian situation remains. The conflict has killed

0:13:41 > 0:13:45more than 10,000 people, displaced over two million and triggered a

0:13:45 > 0:13:50cholera epidemic. The latest violence and only further pressure.

0:13:50 > 0:13:57We are currently receiving more requests for medical supplies from

0:13:57 > 0:14:01two main hospitals that are actually supported by the International Red

0:14:01 > 0:14:10Cross in Yemen. My colleagues now are doing their utmost best in order

0:14:10 > 0:14:21to meet the needs and to help the wounded because of the clashes.

0:14:21 > 0:14:26Yemenis once the country's almost three years of water come to an end.

0:14:26 > 0:14:31But that may rose five the dominance of a man who until the Arab Spring

0:14:31 > 0:14:35spent 33 years of their president. -- as their president.

0:14:35 > 0:14:38We can now talk to Yemeni journalist Afrah Nasser -

0:14:38 > 0:14:39she joins us from Sweden.

0:14:39 > 0:14:45Thanks for joining us. Has significant is this offer to talk by

0:14:45 > 0:14:53Saleh?This is absolutely a defining moment not only on the course of

0:14:53 > 0:15:00Yemen war but also on the course of post-Yemen 2011 uprising period in

0:15:00 > 0:15:07my opinion. The Saudis are clearly not only succeeding in starving

0:15:07 > 0:15:14Yemen into negotiations but also into returning Yemen to pre-2011

0:15:14 > 0:15:19uprising political reality where we are facing the lesser of two evils

0:15:19 > 0:15:29situation. Now it is whether Saleh who is also, his hands are full of

0:15:29 > 0:15:39blood as well. He is supposed to be the rescuer for Yemen. Rescuing

0:15:39 > 0:15:42Yemen some being the world provides a humanitarian crisis over the

0:15:42 > 0:15:48course of I think the past six months, he has been ongoing on

0:15:48 > 0:15:57public speeches, really reflecting and expressing his concerns and

0:15:57 > 0:16:01worried about the humanitarian situation in the country. That is

0:16:01 > 0:16:09fully what triggered him to propose negotiations in many eyes, he is now

0:16:09 > 0:16:16a hero. What needs to happen now for this reaching out to bring an end to

0:16:16 > 0:16:23the war?In my opinion, we are seeing the death of the coalition

0:16:23 > 0:16:30and Houthis. Now there is a coalition between them and the

0:16:30 > 0:16:43Saudis. It's up to them to decide the trajectory of the coming days

0:16:43 > 0:16:46and hours. As we speak, there are major developments happening within

0:16:46 > 0:16:53a few hours. It remains to be seen but there are definitely the final

0:16:53 > 0:17:05say will be the other side, which is the Saudis and Saleh. Now do you

0:17:05 > 0:17:08feel that a man you said had blood on his hands, is becoming a

0:17:08 > 0:17:19peacemaker? -- how do you feel.I think the blood and sacrifices of

0:17:19 > 0:17:24all my generation who took to the streets in 2011, I think it has all

0:17:24 > 0:17:33gone to waste. In my opinion, I think we are going to block zero.

0:17:33 > 0:17:39There was never an uprising. It seems like Stockholm syndrome that a

0:17:39 > 0:17:47lot of people are turning blind to the violations this man has done

0:17:47 > 0:17:56over not only the past few years but the last three decades. It's a very

0:17:56 > 0:18:00confusing moment, I think in Yemen's history.94 sharing your thoughts.

0:18:02 > 0:18:08-- thank you for sharing your thoughts. Let's get this board with

0:18:08 > 0:18:15Jessica. We stuck with the ball where Manchester United have close

0:18:15 > 0:18:21the gap on Manchester City after winning 3-1 at Arsenal. They got the

0:18:21 > 0:18:26ideal start in 50 minutes, Alexandre Lacazette got a goal back before

0:18:26 > 0:18:31they secured the points. It could be one of the matches of the season. It

0:18:31 > 0:18:36wasn't all positive for United because Paul Pogba was sent off, he

0:18:36 > 0:18:38will miss the Manchester derby.

0:18:38 > 0:18:44Amazing attitude from everyone. The quality that they showed. The

0:18:44 > 0:18:49quality of many things. The show also amazing character in the

0:18:49 > 0:18:53difficult moments of the game. It gave us difficult moment. Arsenal

0:18:53 > 0:19:00gave us difficult moment. They had attacking quality and the difficult

0:19:00 > 0:19:04moment of playing with ten men for quite a lot of time. Amazing

0:19:04 > 0:19:09character by the players, I think they deserve your words that are

0:19:09 > 0:19:22similar to my work when I met them in the dressing room.

0:19:28 > 0:19:31Elsewhere in the Premier League Liverpool are into the top four

0:19:31 > 0:19:32after a 5-1 thrashing of Brighton.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35Sam Allardyce marked his first game in charge of everton with a 2-0

0:19:35 > 0:19:36win over Huddersfield.

0:19:36 > 0:19:38Swansea are bottom after their defeat against Stoke.

0:19:38 > 0:19:41Barcelona are still unbeaten at the top of La Liga

0:19:41 > 0:19:43after being held to an entertaining 2-2 draw by Celta Vigo.

0:19:43 > 0:19:46Iago Aspa put Celta ahead after Marc-Andre ter Staygun failed

0:19:46 > 0:19:47to keep hold of the ball.

0:19:47 > 0:19:50But Barca levelled moments later as Lionel Messi converted Paulinho's

0:19:50 > 0:19:51pass for his 17th goal this season.

0:19:51 > 0:19:55Luis Suarez had a goal maybe harshly ruled offside and Messi hit a post.

0:19:55 > 0:19:56Then Suarez put Barca ahead...

0:19:56 > 0:19:59But Gomez later equalised for Celta

0:19:59 > 0:20:02To the rugby league World Cup final Where Australia beat England 6-0,

0:20:02 > 0:20:08in one of the lowest scoring

0:20:08 > 0:20:10Rugby League World Cups in history.

0:20:10 > 0:20:11Delight and jublilation for the Australian team.

0:20:11 > 0:20:14Understandably, this is their second year unbeaten as a team.

0:20:14 > 0:20:17It was Boyd Cordner who got the only try of the match and secured

0:20:17 > 0:20:19Australia's 11th World Cup title, their first on home

0:20:19 > 0:20:27soil since 1977.

0:20:27 > 0:20:31That was one of the toughest trouble games are played in my career. As

0:20:31 > 0:20:37really pleasing victory for the boys. Like I said it's been a fairly

0:20:37 > 0:20:41hard road for this one over the last two years. We want to put ourselves

0:20:41 > 0:20:46back to number one. With got back World Cup victories now and very

0:20:46 > 0:20:55happy to have the kangaroos is the best team in the world.

0:20:55 > 0:20:58Australia just have the edge after day one of the second Ashes

0:20:58 > 0:21:02cricket Test in Adelaide.

0:21:02 > 0:21:04After winning the toss and putting the Aussies into bat,

0:21:04 > 0:21:07England were gifted an early breakthrough when Cameron Bancroft

0:21:07 > 0:21:08was run-out by Chris Woakes.

0:21:08 > 0:21:10England then got the wicket of dangerman David Warner, three

0:21:10 > 0:21:11runs short of his half-century.

0:21:11 > 0:21:15But, a 50 from Usman Khawaja settled down the hosts, before he went,

0:21:15 > 0:21:17and then debutant Craig Overton took the prize wicket of

0:21:17 > 0:21:18Captain Steve Smith.

0:21:18 > 0:21:20The hosts finished on 209 for four.

0:21:20 > 0:21:27And that's all the sport for now.

0:21:27 > 0:21:29North Korea's nuclear programme has caused shock waves abroad and made

0:21:29 > 0:21:32some big cracks in the international community , but now it

0:21:32 > 0:21:34could be having an impact much closer to home.

0:21:34 > 0:21:36Let's take a look.

0:22:32 > 0:22:35Now Witness and we're heading back to 1957 when a huge Science City

0:22:35 > 0:22:37was built in the middle of Siberian forest.

0:22:37 > 0:22:40They called it Academic City.

0:22:40 > 0:22:42Dozens of research institutes were built, and top scientists

0:22:42 > 0:22:46were enticed to come to work in this harsh inhospitable region.

0:22:46 > 0:22:48Victor Varand was one of the first research chemists

0:22:48 > 0:22:49to move to Academic City.

0:22:49 > 0:22:52He told Witness what it was like to live and work

0:22:52 > 0:22:57in such an unusual place.

0:23:10 > 0:23:16A town of 25,000 inhabitants. A town where nearly everyone is a scientist

0:23:16 > 0:23:22or hoping to become one. A new town called academic city.

0:23:29 > 0:23:33TRANSLATION:My first impression was that of bewilderment, to be honest.

0:23:33 > 0:23:39Everything was different here. The houses were right in the middle of

0:23:39 > 0:23:46the forest. It was so quiet and the air seemed so fresh. What used to be

0:23:46 > 0:23:50thought of as a wasteland has turned out to beat the Soviet Union's

0:23:50 > 0:23:59greatest treasure house. A land unbelievable rich in mineral. They

0:23:59 > 0:24:03thought there was no oil here, now it's floating on it. There are

0:24:03 > 0:24:06diamond fields that could be as surge of South Africa's. And gold

0:24:06 > 0:24:14and platinum two. -- as rich as South Africa's.I worked in academic

0:24:14 > 0:24:20city for 46 years since 1962.I was a research chemist at the Institute

0:24:20 > 0:24:26of Inorganic chemistry. In 1963, I thought my beloved subject matter

0:24:26 > 0:24:33analytical chemistry at the University there. Since the times of

0:24:33 > 0:24:37the Czar, people were Axar out to Siberia, would you excel to anyone

0:24:37 > 0:24:43to a good place? That was the idea of Siberia, that Wall Street people.

0:24:45 > 0:24:55-- walls eight people. Our salary was only 10% more than others, but

0:24:55 > 0:25:00we got separate apartments. In the years, there was an acute shortage

0:25:00 > 0:25:06of housing. They didn't attract is worth housing, they attracted us

0:25:06 > 0:25:10with in accommodation and good work. No other research laboratories are

0:25:10 > 0:25:15so lavishly equipped and nowhere else other students so carefully

0:25:15 > 0:25:19selected or recently examined. This is what is called a colliding beam

0:25:19 > 0:25:22accelerator, the only one of its kind in the world. Designed to hurl

0:25:22 > 0:25:30particles of matter and particles of antimatter. Our Institute of nuclear

0:25:30 > 0:25:34physics is a globally recognised research Centre. Its scientists have

0:25:34 > 0:25:38collaborated in the construction of the Large Hadron Collider in

0:25:38 > 0:25:44Switzerland. But many of the inventions in breakthroughs happened

0:25:44 > 0:25:50in secret research projects for the Ministry of Defence.

0:25:53 > 0:25:57Of course, the creation of academic city was a great achievement. A new

0:25:57 > 0:26:01generation of scientists has been nurtured here. Most people who

0:26:01 > 0:26:06worked there and now an graduate of our university, and what does Russia

0:26:06 > 0:26:10live on today? Gas and oil, of course Karanka found and explored

0:26:10 > 0:26:14those resources? Our Siberian scientists.

0:26:14 > 0:26:17That's it for me for now. Goodbye.

0:26:20 > 0:26:25Good evening. It's been gradually turning milder the

0:26:25 > 0:26:26Good evening. It's been gradually turning milder the past 24 hours or

0:26:26 > 0:26:31less cold. But there's been a lot of cloud with that change. We had a

0:26:31 > 0:26:35lovely sunset this evening in Kent and Sunday promises more sunshine

0:26:35 > 0:26:40for many of us. Currently however, you can see whether from the week as

0:26:40 > 0:26:43they are draped across the country sinking southward. They give some

0:26:43 > 0:26:47grey and murky conditions if you are out and about travelling. There will

0:26:47 > 0:26:52be some light rain drizzling, the cloud is low enough for the hills,

0:26:52 > 0:26:57but later denied we will start to see things clearing out. We could

0:26:57 > 0:27:01just about get a touch of frost in the north-east, and early on in the

0:27:01 > 0:27:06South East. For most of us, after what has been a jolly chilly week,

0:27:06 > 0:27:10it will look lively frost free, but it probably will be got a murky

0:27:10 > 0:27:14start to the day. Especially across the southern half of the country.

0:27:14 > 0:27:17This week whether funds will move fairly quickly to for part of

0:27:17 > 0:27:22Pembrokeshire and south-west England. For most of England and

0:27:22 > 0:27:29Wales, it will be brighter and drier there. Not so cold either, to the

0:27:29 > 0:27:34starting 4-5d, for Northern Ireland that is close by. Scotland team, a

0:27:34 > 0:27:39few shallow fog partridges in the South of England but they should

0:27:39 > 0:27:47Clare. It topples back into their but it tinker for Northern Ireland.

0:27:47 > 0:27:53For most of us, it's a bright afternoon with some good spells of

0:27:53 > 0:27:55Ihsan Sacko chilly today in the north-east because we are back into

0:27:55 > 0:28:04cooler air, but better in East Anglia. Into Sunday evening and

0:28:04 > 0:28:07overnight week whether funds so cloud comes in by what we find is

0:28:07 > 0:28:10probably a little bit of forward as we go through to Monday morning rush

0:28:10 > 0:28:14hour, particularly in East Anglia and the South East, in the West we

0:28:14 > 0:28:19have some showers but a lot of dry unsettled weather will greet us on

0:28:19 > 0:28:22Monday and slightly milder weather and we had in the week just gone.

0:28:22 > 0:28:29That is because we have hired pressure, but mine conditions,

0:28:29 > 0:28:32pushing to North and west and we have to wait till mid week to see

0:28:32 > 0:28:35something more turbulent. That is Wednesday, it looks set to turn wet

0:28:35 > 0:28:37and windy about that stage. But a
