tonight. Give them a big wave come on. Well done to all of our fund- | :06:45. | :06:52.
raisers. Last year Children in Need spent 5 million supporting over | :06:52. | :06:57.
270 groups in Scotland. Here is how some of your donations helped one | :06:57. | :07:03.
little boy 5 his family. 18 month old Finlay struggles to keep up | :07:03. | :07:10.
with his twin brother. That is because he has cerebral palsy. His | :07:10. | :07:14.
muscles are constantly clenched. So he haslyle or no control. | :07:14. | :07:21.
muscles are loose and we can tighten as much as we want to. But | :07:21. | :07:29.
with Finlay, they stay tight all the time. Cerebral palsy is caused | :07:29. | :07:38.
by damage too the -- to the brain before, or after birth. Finlay is | :07:38. | :07:43.
likely to have suffered brain damage before birth. It is still a | :07:43. | :07:47.
shock when the doctor says this has happened and you don't know why and | :07:47. | :07:52.
you don't know what happened, why did it happen to him? Finlay is | :07:52. | :07:56.
just starting to become aware of the differences between him and his | :07:56. | :08:02.
twin brother. He can get quite frustrated that you know Fraser's | :08:02. | :08:10.
running off down the hall at 100mph and he can't catch up as quick. He | :08:10. | :08:18.
recognises that Fraser's up and away 5 he is not. You worry about | :08:18. | :08:22.
what he's going to be like. For school and as he grows up and | :08:22. | :08:27.
becomes an adult, how he will cope. Fortunately there is a place to | :08:27. | :08:37.
help Finlay. The Craig Albert Sen eer the was set up to help children | :08:37. | :08:41.
with neurological problems. It is important to start his therapy as | :08:41. | :08:46.
early as possible, to encourage him to use his right hand and leg. | :08:46. | :08:51.
Otherwise he will different ways of using his left side and he will | :08:51. | :08:56.
forget about using his right. centre also helps children with | :08:56. | :09:00.
their education. It provides them and their families with the support | :09:00. | :09:07.
they need. Alex is older than Finlay, but he has benefited from | :09:07. | :09:16.
the centre. I do like... Stretches. That help my legs. Trying to get my | :09:16. | :09:25.
feet on my walker. It's like... Stomping around the room. Finlay's | :09:25. | :09:30.
journey is just beginning and your donations can help ensure he gets | :09:30. | :09:37.
help. When I went went to the sin centre, he wasn't even sitting | :09:37. | :09:41.
unaided. He was just lying. I don't know if he would be anywhere near | :09:41. | :09:46.
as far on as he is now if he hadn't had the help from Craig Albert. | :09:46. | :09:54.
Across the nation one in 4 hundred children are born with cerebral | :09:54. | :09:57.
palsy. Your money can give these children the best chance to have | :09:57. | :10:07.
:10:07. | :10:23. | ||
the full and rich lives that they Now a special group of young people | :10:23. | :10:29.
that have come from all over Aberdeenshire. They're here | :10:29. | :10:35.
performing as our special Scottish cleeds choir. Andrew Panton is in | :10:36. | :10:41.
charge. He is the one on the right. He has transformed them into a | :10:41. | :10:45.
singing sensation. Last night they performed as part of nationwide | :10:45. | :10:51.
sing along with 2,500 children sang the classic Bridge Over Troubled | :10:51. | :11:00.
Waters by Simon and Garfunkel. Now let's look at how it started. | :11:00. | :11:05.
Children in Need would not exist the help of local communities. | :11:05. | :11:08.
Aberdeenshire is no exception. When we asked children in the north-east | :11:08. | :11:13.
to help us form a choir to sing for Children in Need, the response was | :11:13. | :11:19.
overwhelming. 123 children from 23 schools came together to sing for | :11:19. | :11:23.
Scotland as part of a nationwide sing along. In their first | :11:23. | :11:31.
rehearsal, hopes were high that the children met for the first time. | :11:31. | :11:36.
I'm excited. It is a good cause and helps so many people and it's just | :11:36. | :11:42.
a brilliant experience. I'm nervous, because I haven't done anything | :11:42. | :11:49.
like this before and I have never done its before. Andrew Panton has | :11:49. | :11:53.
the task of mouldzing the youngsters into a choir. It is | :11:53. | :11:58.
quiting, we have a lot of work to do in a short period of time. We | :11:58. | :12:02.
have three weeks to make them from different schools feel like one | :12:02. | :12:12.
:12:12. | :12:17. | ||
choir. Really good. And # Friends just can't be found... We need to | :12:17. | :12:22.
lose the Rihannas and go straightser. This is a once in a | :12:22. | :12:26.
lifetime opportunities. I am glad I got in. I think we will per form | :12:26. | :12:32.
well. It is only the first rehearsal today and it is sounding | :12:32. | :12:37.
good. Children as young as nine have helped form the choir. The | :12:37. | :12:41.
youngsters are so dedicated they have been giving up their spare | :12:41. | :12:47.
time to practice in their own schools. We have been rehearsing | :12:48. | :12:52.
every Friday and Monday. For about 20 minutes. And do some at home. | :12:52. | :12:57.
Two week on and with just days to go, there is one last push to get | :12:57. | :13:00.
everyone together again to make sure Scotland's choir is ready for | :13:01. | :13:05.
the big night. They have been work hard and have remembered all the | :13:05. | :13:09.
work we have done. But we are still in the rehearsal room. As soon as | :13:09. | :13:13.
we're on set, everything will be different. It will feel different | :13:13. | :13:17.
for them, there is light and staging and that is where we finds | :13:17. | :13:23.
if they can stay focused and produce the goods. # Like a bridge | :13:23. | :13:31.
over troubled waters... I will lay me down # There is still a Rhys | :13:31. | :13:36.
thank we're not going to be ready. -- there is still a risk that we're | :13:36. | :13:41.
not going to be ready. There are still things we need to sort out. | :13:41. | :13:45.
We all think they're going to be amazing and we had some | :13:45. | :13:50.
encouragement from a local girl, Emeli Sande. I found out that | :13:50. | :13:54.
Aberdeenshire kids have come together to form a choir tonight. I | :13:54. | :13:59.
wanted to sends a big goods luck message and just say what a great | :13:59. | :14:03.
thing you're doing. I have been hearing you have been practition | :14:03. | :14:07.
hard and you're sounding fantastic. I'm sorry I can't be there, but | :14:07. | :14:13.
have a great time, sing out and well done. How cool is that? To | :14:13. | :14:18.
hear from local lass Emeli Sande. So last night they performed with | :14:18. | :14:22.
the nationwide choir. Tonight they have the stage all to themselves. | :14:22. | :14:30.
So performing Bridge Over Troubled Water, we have welcome the Scottish | :14:30. | :14:40.
:14:40. | :15:09. | ||
# Wen you're weary, feeling small # When tears are in your eyes # I | :15:09. | :15:19.
:15:19. | :15:27. | ||
will dry them all. # I'm on your side # Oh when times get rough # | :15:27. | :15:37.
:15:37. | :15:40. | ||
And friends just can't be found # Like a bridge over troubled waters, | :15:40. | :15:50.
:15:50. | :15:53. | ||
I will lay me down. # Like a bridge over troubled waters, I will lay me | :15:53. | :16:03.
:16:03. | :16:16. | ||
down. # When you're down and out. # When you're on the street. # When | :16:16. | :16:26.
:16:26. | :16:30. | ||
evening falls so hard, I will comfort you. # Ooh I'll take your | :16:30. | :16:40.
:16:40. | :16:48. | ||
part, oh when darkness comes. # And pain is all around. # Like a bridge | :16:48. | :16:58.
:16:58. | :17:01. | ||
over troubled waters, I will lay me down. # Like a bridge over troubled | :17:01. | :17:11.

All your dreams are all on their way. # See how they shine. # Oh if | :18:02. | :18:12.
:18:12. | :18:14. | ||
you need a friend, I'm sailing right behind. # Like a bridge over | :18:14. | :18:24.

:19:33. | :19:45. | ||
can donate to Children in Need Last night sir Terry introduced so | :19:45. | :19:51.
many acts we were spoilt for choice. So we decided on a group who I | :19:51. | :19:56.
believe are popular. Have you heard of them One Direction? All doing | :19:56. | :20:06.
:20:06. | :20:13. | ||
# Hey girl I'm waiting on you # Come on and let me seek you out # | :20:13. | :20:21.
And have a celebration, a celebration, I have got the windows | :20:21. | :20:27.
down # We'll be doing what we doing # Just pretending that we're cool | :20:27. | :20:32.

that we're cool # Now Children in Need let's go crazy until we see | :20:39. | :20:45.

:23:23. | :23:26. | ||
Three and a a a through great excitement here. In life we rarely | :23:26. | :23:30.
have a crystal ball when it comes to the twists and turns and this | :23:30. | :23:34.
shows how the tragedy can strike, and how much the families affected | :23:34. | :23:43.
Natalya was like any of the ten- year-old girl until a visit to the | :23:43. | :23:47.
doctor revealed she was seriously ill, she had leukaemia. My dad | :23:47. | :23:50.
started crying and I got really confused because I had never seen | :23:50. | :23:55.
him so upset. When she was diagnosed it did feel like a kick | :23:55. | :24:01.
in the stomach. The first thing that happens to you as a parent is | :24:01. | :24:06.
the bottom falls out of your world. It is the worst feeling I have ever | :24:06. | :24:10.
had in my life. Within days of diagnosis she started a lengthy | :24:10. | :24:16.
period of chemotherapy. I lost all my hair, and I would have headaches | :24:16. | :24:20.
from the moment I were Cup to the moment I went to sleep. I had about | :24:20. | :24:25.
20 operations, at one point it was won every Wednesday. My immune | :24:25. | :24:28.
system was low so I wasn't able to go out into public places. I | :24:29. | :24:32.
couldn't go to the cinema with my friends, or go shopping, or | :24:33. | :24:37.
anything. After months of chemotherapy treatment she was at | :24:37. | :24:40.
her lowest ebb, anxious and isolated, she faced an uncertain | :24:40. | :24:47.
future. We were in a clinic, and it was a year after I had been | :24:47. | :24:51.
diagnosed and we have seen these befits. It's said laughter is the | :24:51. | :24:57.
best medicine. We thought that sounded good. Over The Wall it is a | :24:57. | :25:01.
Children In Need supported charity that runs activity camps for | :25:01. | :25:05.
children suffering serious illnesses. Staffed by medical | :25:05. | :25:08.
volunteers he they provide a safe environment for children -- where | :25:08. | :25:14.
children can do what all children should be able to do, have fun. | :25:14. | :25:16.
instantly felt welcome and looked after. All of the volunteers were | :25:16. | :25:22.
so caring and everybody was smiling. Over The Wall helps children | :25:22. | :25:26.
realise they are not defined by their illness, they are designed to | :25:26. | :25:31.
instil self-confidence and self- esteem. We do horse-riding, archery, | :25:31. | :25:38.
swimming, rock-climbing. It just showed us being children with | :25:38. | :25:42.
illnesses that we can do things that other children do. These camps | :25:42. | :25:46.
are made possible thanks to your donations and the selfless | :25:46. | :25:50.
volunteering of doctors and nurses who provide constant medical care | :25:50. | :25:55.
and entertainment. The children come back with enhanced morale and | :25:55. | :25:58.
confidence, which in turn helps them get on with the rest of their | :25:58. | :26:03.
treatment. It helped give her up the strength to complete her | :26:03. | :26:06.
chemotherapy treatment and she is now in remission and able to enjoy | :26:06. | :26:11.
a full life. Over The Wall cams are an incredible experience and they | :26:11. | :26:15.
have changed my life. It is incredible they are able to change | :26:15. | :26:21.
the lives of so many children that have been through such hard times. | :26:21. | :26:27.
It is an amazing experience, really good. What a joy to see her smiling | :26:28. | :26:31.
again. That is the way each should be. This lot have been smiling all | :26:31. | :26:36.

Children In Need. For full terms We have already seen a couple of | :32:35. | :32:37.
stories telling us how Children In Need can make a difference. So many | :32:37. | :32:40.
of you get involved and put your hearts and souls into raising money, | :32:40. | :32:44.
every year new people get involved before some people it is a | :32:44. | :32:47.
tradition, brilliant fundraisers who have dedicated so much time and | :32:47. | :32:51.
effort into organising events, inspiring people year after year. | :32:51. | :32:55.
We would like to celebrate one of those community champions, Mairi | :32:55. | :33:00.
Gowans from Hillhead High School in Glasgow. Over the last 20 years one | :33:00. | :33:04.
high school in Glasgow has raised an astonishing 94,000 for Children | :33:04. | :33:09.
In Need. And PE teacher Mairi Gowans is a driving force behind | :33:09. | :33:12.
the schools incredible generosity. It is the biggest charity them we | :33:12. | :33:17.
do at the school. The youngsters in the school are absolutely brilliant. | :33:17. | :33:20.
They grab whatever challenge they throw at them and they will get | :33:20. | :33:23.
involved. The pupils know while Children In Need can be fun, there | :33:24. | :33:28.
is a serious issue behind it. like helping others, especially | :33:28. | :33:32.
Children In Need because I am helping a child. It is such a great | :33:32. | :33:36.
cause. That is the main reason. But it is part of the school ethos, it | :33:36. | :33:42.
is tradition. That could be me in need and I would warn people to | :33:42. | :33:48.
help me. This is a special year. It was special because it would be | :33:48. | :33:51.
hour 20 if you put it so happened with the titles we have collected | :33:51. | :33:58.
over the years we are just over 5,000 short of the 1,000 target. | :33:58. | :34:02.
-- 100,000 target. She wants to break this milestone in style. | :34:02. | :34:07.
have got 40 and netball players aiming to reach 100,000 goals in a | :34:07. | :34:15.
shoot-out -- 140. That is an enormous target. With ambition like | :34:15. | :34:18.
that it is no wonder at the school has raised so much money and her | :34:18. | :34:23.
infectious enthusiasm and Sean's -- ensures her pupils are up for the | :34:23. | :34:29.
challenge. We have got 14 at netball posts and basketball rings. | :34:29. | :34:34.
38 of our noble scored a sponsored to reach 100,000. We have got some | :34:34. | :34:41.
staff and former pupils helping out to reach the total. It is such a | :34:41. | :34:47.
high target even Pudsey turned up to lend a helping hand. Over the | :34:47. | :34:53.
last 19 years we have raised over 94,000. If we can raise 5,384 | :34:53. | :34:57.
this year we will reach our 100,000 target. All of these | :34:57. | :35:01.
people are working hard to raise money for Children In Need, but | :35:01. | :35:05.
there is somebody who deserves a special mention. They Romany people | :35:05. | :35:13.
involved in this, pupils, staff, former pupils and parents and it is | :35:13. | :35:17.
all down to the leadership of Mairi Gowans. She is the powerhouse of | :35:17. | :35:21.
charity events in the school. is the backbone of it, set | :35:21. | :35:25.
everything up. She put her heart and soul into pushing this effort | :35:25. | :35:31.
forward. She uses up so much of her time to inspire us. She's a really | :35:31. | :35:37.
amazing person. I know you are a very reluctant champion because you | :35:37. | :35:41.
don't want to be a peer in the spotlight, but you obviously | :35:41. | :35:46.
inspired so many of the young people, what inspires you? They | :35:46. | :35:51.
inspire me. The fact it is children raising money for other children, | :35:51. | :35:56.
they are my inspiration. You set yourself a big target, getting | :35:56. | :36:01.
100,000 baskets which is a big one, and then break the 100,000 barrier. | :36:01. | :36:05.
How did you get on? We did well, right to the wire with the goals, | :36:05. | :36:11.
we had most of the school shooting today, but we broke the 100,000 | :36:11. | :36:21.

Time to see how donating to Children In Need makes a difference | :39:56. | :39:59.
to children in our local communities. Here is Alan Hansen | :39:59. | :40:03.
with the story which highlights an issue that faces thousands in | :40:03. | :40:07.
Scotland. One of the most important things for parents is knowing your | :40:07. | :40:11.
child as a safe place to play. Somewhere where they can enjoy | :40:11. | :40:15.
themselves without worrying about traffic and other dangers. But | :40:16. | :40:21.
sadly for many children in the UK they just don't have that option. | :40:21. | :40:31.
:40:31. | :40:34. | ||
Michael's story will be familiar to Many children dream about being a | :40:34. | :40:43.
footballer. Nine-year-old Michael is no exception. I like football | :40:43. | :40:51.
because it is time to get fit, it is fair to see how you are now that | :40:51. | :40:54.
you carry on and get better. They struggled to find a safe place to | :40:54. | :40:59.
play. Suitable places are hard to find a plane in the street brings | :40:59. | :41:05.
its own problems. The people are wary about it smashing something. | :41:05. | :41:10.
We hit people's cars but they do meanness but -- but we do minutes | :41:10. | :41:13.
but they shout at us. Once a week a local charity arrives and makes it | :41:13. | :41:17.
their mission to give these kids something special. A safe space to | :41:17. | :41:24.
play, and the chance to turn their dreams into reality. It is a mobile | :41:24. | :41:27.

bringing football to the heart of the local community. Its benefits | :42:13. | :42:18.

Crucially this is about giving kids a safe place to play. There isn't | :42:38. | :42:44.
