I've been singing since I was seven.

I had my first hit in 1954.

Singing is what I love to do.

They tell me I've sold nearly 70 million records,

but there's still nothing like performing for a new audience.

And although I've been doing this a long time,

I'd never played Berlin before until the show you're about to see.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Everything has changed.

I think what's dangerous, when you've been in this business

a long time, is to stand still.

You have to move, too, with the times.

It's not always an easy thing to do, but that's what one should do.

But to be honest,

it's usually the new songs I like best because they're new.

It's like a love affair.

And of course, I did Downtown in German, and one or two others.

The record is very organic.

We recorded in this tiny studio,

about the same size as this dressing room, at the bottom of a garden.

But of course, a perfect studio.

And so the atmosphere was very intimate and personal.

Organic.

I could look out of the window where I was singing, my microphone,

and I could see birds, and trees, and flowers,

and a cat chasing the birds.

All that was going on while I was singing.

This is the title song from the new album.
