??NEWELEMENT What will renewed worries about the state of the | :00:13. | :00:20.
global economy mean for investor sentiment for the remainder of the | :00:21. | :00:27.
year? And China reveals a device with an additional option. Will this | :00:28. | :00:28.
help to get more sales? Good morning, Asia, hello world. | :00:29. | :00:41.
Glad you could join us for this Friday edition of Asia Business | :00:42. | :00:46.
Report, I am Rico Hizon. We are seeing a weak start for markets | :00:47. | :00:52.
across Asia at the end of the trading week, before the weekend, | :00:53. | :00:56.
this follows a down day on Wall Street overnight. Earlier this week | :00:57. | :01:00.
the World Bank lowered its global growth forecast and that has renewed | :01:01. | :01:04.
worries among investors. We also have a slide in oil prices | :01:05. | :01:09.
overnight, also waiting on US energy stocks. Japan's Nikkei is down by | :01:10. | :01:15.
about 74 points, that is about 0.4%. The all ordinaries also in negative | :01:16. | :01:21.
territory. So what is likely to be the tone for the markets for the | :01:22. | :01:24.
second half of the year? Let get some direction from Michael | :01:25. | :01:29.
McCarthy, joining us from Sydney. Thank you so much for joining us, | :01:30. | :01:34.
Michael. First of all, if you take a look at the Asian market indices | :01:35. | :01:39.
there is a lot of unevenness in the trends. Japan is up, Australia is | :01:40. | :01:44.
up, but Hong Kong is down. The Philippines is in positive | :01:45. | :01:47.
territory. So there is a lot of volatility in the first half. Is | :01:48. | :01:51.
this likely to continue from the second half of the year? That seems | :01:52. | :01:58.
very likely, acrid that volatility is being caused by differing | :01:59. | :02:02.
standards around the globe. -- that seems very likely, Rico. Those | :02:03. | :02:10.
crossflow is in markets mean that the volatility we saw particularly | :02:11. | :02:14.
in the first quarter of this year is likely to be repeated again as | :02:15. | :02:18.
investors and sentiment respond to those various central bank moves. | :02:19. | :02:23.
This volatility is very good for traders like yourself and your | :02:24. | :02:27.
colleagues behind you but a lot of a knees for medium and long-term | :02:28. | :02:33.
investors. That's right, Rico volatility is the traders but was | :02:34. | :02:38.
friend but it can spook investors and cause concerns. It is because of | :02:39. | :02:43.
the heightened risks which occur in volatile markets, there can be more | :02:44. | :02:47.
rewards. Those investors who can steal themselves to invest through | :02:48. | :02:50.
the volatility can do very well in markets moving as rapidly as the | :02:51. | :02:55.
markets we are seeing today -- steel themselves. Apart from global | :02:56. | :02:59.
economic growth and the potential rate hike from the US Federal | :03:00. | :03:02.
Reserve over the next few months, what other factors should investors | :03:03. | :03:09.
be watching out for the second half? Quite clearly out of Europe you have | :03:10. | :03:14.
the potential for the British to vote to leave the European Union, | :03:15. | :03:17.
and while that is not a likely scenario it is a possibility and a | :03:18. | :03:21.
risk for markets and the ongoing watch that we have in the | :03:22. | :03:24.
Asia-Pacific region is on China and its growth prospects. We will get | :03:25. | :03:28.
another read early next week on industrial production and retail | :03:29. | :03:31.
sales and the demand we saw coming through on imports in the recent | :03:32. | :03:36.
trade data gives us some reasons to be optimistic about the potential | :03:37. | :03:39.
for retail sales and possibly even industrial production to surprise on | :03:40. | :03:43.
the upside. That of course would be a real support for risk assets in | :03:44. | :03:47.
the region and around the globe. Given this current market landscape, | :03:48. | :03:51.
Michael, what are you telling investors and clients? How should | :03:52. | :03:55.
they manage their money, briefly? Stay active and use the derivatives. | :03:56. | :04:01.
The moment that tools available are important for investors who can do | :04:02. | :04:04.
the hard work, to understand how they can do well in the current | :04:05. | :04:10.
market. Michael McCarthy, joining us from the Sydney trading floor, thank | :04:11. | :04:13.
you for your views. Honda is recalling 784,000 vehicles in Japan | :04:14. | :04:18.
due to faulty airbag inflated as forefront passenger seats. -- | :04:19. | :04:30.
inflators. The faulty inflators have been responsible for at least 11 | :04:31. | :04:33.
fatalities worldwide and more than 100 injuries. Click for food. Amazon | :04:34. | :04:41.
has launched a full online supermarket service in the UK, | :04:42. | :04:45.
covering areas in central and East London. The service will be expanded | :04:46. | :04:49.
to other areas but the company has not set a specific date for the | :04:50. | :04:55.
rollout. The supermarket service has been running in the US since 2007. A | :04:56. | :05:04.
French court has imposed a $900,000 fine on the right hailing | :05:05. | :05:07.
application Uber for running an illegal taxi service, Uber POP, for | :05:08. | :05:15.
non- professional drivers. It also slapped fines on two executives. The | :05:16. | :05:19.
case is the first of its kind in Europe. A spokesman says the company | :05:20. | :05:23.
will appeal against the court ruling. Motorola has announced a new | :05:24. | :05:29.
telephone line up that lets users snap on optional hardware. The | :05:30. | :05:34.
Chinese device maker slipped to number six among the world's top | :05:35. | :05:38.
smartphone makers earlier this year but they are hoping their new model | :05:39. | :05:49.
will be boosting their sales. A senior executive explained the idea | :05:50. | :05:57.
to our technology reporter. You are from Motorola and your big | :05:58. | :06:00.
announcement has been this phone here. Yes, this is the Moto Z, 5.2 | :06:01. | :06:10.
millimetres thin, and the Moto Z Force, available in the US. The | :06:11. | :06:15.
thing we are most excited about besides these flexible phones is the | :06:16. | :06:20.
16 pins on the back which allow you to extend the capability of the | :06:21. | :06:24.
phone. Additional sensors and capabilities. What I brought here | :06:25. | :06:28.
today is a sound booster which attaches to the back like this and | :06:29. | :06:32.
snaps on, it becomes part of the device. What I was showing earlier, | :06:33. | :06:37.
you start playing music, you can hear it from the front speakers. It | :06:38. | :06:43.
is fairly quiet right now. Once you attach the speakers you can | :06:44. | :06:48.
definitely hear it. Quite a difference. It has a nice little | :06:49. | :06:54.
kickstand so you can... OK, so obviously there is plenty of | :06:55. | :06:59.
Bluetooth speakers on the market. I have one in my kitchen at home. Why | :07:00. | :07:03.
would I go to the bother of getting this phone to do that? Dust like the | :07:04. | :07:06.
best camera is one that is always with you, the best loud speakers are | :07:07. | :07:12.
the ones that are with you -- just like. Fitting in your pocket is | :07:13. | :07:17.
fantastic. Secondly we have this projector. I still have Google Play | :07:18. | :07:21.
music on here but let's start The Project. You can see it on the wall. | :07:22. | :07:27.
It is a little bright and I am projecting on a projection, but you | :07:28. | :07:31.
can see that everything we do here is high speed. And so these added | :07:32. | :07:39.
accessories, how much would someone expect to pay to get the projector | :07:40. | :07:44.
or the speakers, what is the type of price? We are not talking about | :07:45. | :07:51.
prices on the modifications yet. Well, the luxury goods market has | :07:52. | :07:54.
been through a boom but now we are seeing a slowdown in Asia and in | :07:55. | :07:58.
parts of Europe. That has not stopped many of the big names | :07:59. | :08:01.
continuing to expand their business, opening new and costly stores. The | :08:02. | :08:08.
chief executive of the company was in London to open their new | :08:09. | :08:12.
boutique. If you examine the history, we had some passage and | :08:13. | :08:23.
flowing down in 2008 and 2009, but luxury for the big houses, the big | :08:24. | :08:29.
names, have been reborn. From time to time it is flat, because you know | :08:30. | :08:34.
what happened in Paris, for instance. Then you have the problems | :08:35. | :08:39.
with Hong Kong, the Chinese market is still doing well domestically. | :08:40. | :08:48.
But tourist are paying less. -- tourists. It is not the kind of | :08:49. | :08:53.
gross we have in the last years, but I am confident with the luxury | :08:54. | :08:58.
sector in the medium and long-term. You mentioned the challenge of store | :08:59. | :09:03.
openings, during your tenure Dior has opened 200 stores globally. That | :09:04. | :09:08.
is interesting because many of your competitors these days are choosing | :09:09. | :09:12.
not to invest in the overheads related to physical stores, instead | :09:13. | :09:17.
choosing to invest in the e-commerce site of their business. Why are you | :09:18. | :09:21.
focusing on the stores themselves? When you buy perfume, when you come | :09:22. | :09:27.
ready to order, and the type of ready to order we sell, you need | :09:28. | :09:33.
advice, you need fitting. You may come with a boyfriend, it may come | :09:34. | :09:37.
with your husband, you may come with your daughter. You may come alone, | :09:38. | :09:41.
but you need to communicate. It is not just buying a jacket. It is | :09:42. | :09:49.
about continuing the dream. And that was Dior's chief executive speaking | :09:50. | :09:54.
to the BBC's Alice back staff. We are talking about the Asian markets, | :09:55. | :09:59.
being in negative territory -- Alice Baxter. China's slowing growth, the | :10:00. | :10:08.
Brexit. The markets are in broad decline in commodity and stock | :10:09. | :10:12.
prices in major world markets, lifting the Japanese yen against the | :10:13. | :10:17.
US dollar. It is always a safe haven currency during times of uncertainty | :10:18. | :10:20.
and after reaching an 11 month peak, oil prices are taking a breather as | :10:21. | :10:25.
you can see on your screens. Light crude, 50.47, Brent crude, 51.8 | :10:26. | :10:32.
five. Thank you for investing your time with us. I am Rico Hizon. | :10:33. | :10:35.
