In the race for the White House, pressure mounts on the FBI

:00:09.:00:14.

to explain what it knew - and when - over Hillary Clinton's e-mail

:00:15.:00:18.

Senior Democrats accuse the FBI of being partisan and even breaking

:00:19.:00:22.

the law following Friday's revelation - which they say

:00:23.:00:24.

is designed to help one political party over another.

:00:25.:00:29.

Large numbers of people in central Italy are spending the night

:00:30.:00:32.

in temporary accommodation after a strong earthquake struck

:00:33.:00:34.

the region on Sunday - the third one in a fortnight.

:00:35.:00:39.

And this story is trending on BBC.com:

:00:40.:00:44.

There's been mixed reviews to an Australian government plan

:00:45.:00:46.

to ban for life asylum seekers who arrive illegally

:00:47.:00:49.

will be introduced into parliament this week.

:00:50.:00:54.

That's all from me now. Stay with BBC News.

:00:55.:01:04.

The government is considering reforming the way people

:01:05.:01:08.

are assessed for disability benefits following claims

:01:09.:01:10.

more targeted and personalised support.

:01:11.:01:17.

Now on BBC News, all the latest business news live from Singapore.

:01:18.:01:34.

A volatile start to the trading week threatens a recent rally in Tokyo

:01:35.:01:40.

stocks, which had hit a six-month high. And a scary business. How one

:01:41.:01:46.

amusement park in Hong Kong is banking on thrills this Halloween.

:01:47.:01:54.

Welcome to Asia Business Report. Investors are waiting to see the

:01:55.:02:02.

results of earning reports due out later today from some of Japan's

:02:03.:02:08.

biggest companies. It includes an automaker and an airline, just to

:02:09.:02:12.

name a few. The numbers could indicate if Japan's economy is

:02:13.:02:16.

starting to show signs of recovery. The Japanese yen remains close to

:02:17.:02:20.

its weakest level against the US dollar in three months, which had

:02:21.:02:24.

said Tokyo stocks to a six-month high last Friday. The Nikkei had

:02:25.:02:29.

gained Sarah Coyte 6%, closing advertised level since April. --

:02:30.:02:38.

0.6%. You can see that as a huge difference, a far cry from almost a

:02:39.:02:43.

year ago. Earlier I spoke with the chief economist at Japan Micro Kerr

:02:44.:02:48.

advisers and asked him by the yen is weakening and if the trend will

:02:49.:02:52.

last. The yen weakness is more US driven. The US Federal Reserve is

:02:53.:02:59.

expecting to raise their policy rate in December. So the yen is basically

:03:00.:03:07.

we weakening because of that. Do you see this influencing corporate Japan

:03:08.:03:11.

as well? Are we seeing Japanese companies growing, singing good

:03:12.:03:15.

profits, because of growth in markets like the US. A lot of these

:03:16.:03:20.

companies are export reliant -- ceiling. Or is it entirely due to

:03:21.:03:25.

the wiki game? I would say it is entirely due to the weakening yen,

:03:26.:03:29.

but the yen weakening has helped the Japanese economy significantly. It

:03:30.:03:33.

has been one of the biggest drivers for Arboyne mix. Raising profit

:03:34.:03:40.

growth and Japanese inflation -- Abenomics. I don't think this yen

:03:41.:03:45.

weakness will continue. The bank of Japan has pretty much used up all of

:03:46.:03:50.

its policy tools to weaken the yen. I do not think the yen weakening

:03:51.:03:55.

will continue. In terms of corporate Japan, outpacing growth in markets

:03:56.:04:00.

like the US and elsewhere? Unfortunately, the Japanese

:04:01.:04:03.

exporters are actually losing market share. Despite the yen weakening.

:04:04.:04:09.

When you look at the export growers of Japanese companies in volume

:04:10.:04:13.

terms, it is actually growing less than the global trend. I don't think

:04:14.:04:18.

Japanese companies are actually expending their market share. It

:04:19.:04:22.

doesn't help as well but we have a lot of uncertainty over the next few

:04:23.:04:27.

weeks for the market. You have the US election coming up. The Federal

:04:28.:04:31.

Reserve and the bank of Japan are both meeting this week. What in fact

:04:32.:04:35.

might this have on the market? I don't think the bank of Japan will

:04:36.:04:41.

do any policy action. If they do, that will be surprising. The yen

:04:42.:04:44.

could weaken on the back of the news, but I think it is unlikely. So

:04:45.:04:53.

in terms of other news, Brexit, I don't think it is that important for

:04:54.:04:58.

Japan, but if it does to the extent that it has a negative repercussions

:04:59.:05:03.

to the global economy, it made for Japan. Overall, on balance, I think

:05:04.:05:10.

there is bad news brewing somewhere in the world that will impact

:05:11.:05:12.

Japanese growth negatively. Won Australia's third biggest bank,

:05:13.:05:24.

ANZ, is scaling back on its Asian exposure. It will offload its retail

:05:25.:05:28.

and wealth businesses in around nine Asian countries. Singapore's biggest

:05:29.:05:36.

lender, DBS, will buy the assets from ANZ, including in markets like

:05:37.:05:41.

China and Indonesia. DBS said it posted a slight increase in

:05:42.:05:46.

third-quarter net profit but bad debt charges doubled because of the

:05:47.:05:49.

bank's exposure to the troubled oil and gas sector.

:05:50.:05:53.

South Korea will provide financing to local shipping phones so they can

:05:54.:05:59.

buy new vessels to remain competitive. The government is

:06:00.:06:02.

stepping up support for local shipbuilding and the shipping

:06:03.:06:06.

industries following the collapse of a big company in August. Canada and

:06:07.:06:15.

EU have signed a landmark trade agreement that took nearly seven

:06:16.:06:19.

years to negotiate. They hope it will generate another $13 billion

:06:20.:06:20.

per year. We will find out later today if a

:06:21.:06:32.

Brexit checkup is having an impact on the world's largest advertising

:06:33.:06:35.

company when they release their most recent trading statement. Its chief

:06:36.:06:39.

executive said TV and newspapers could see a substantial hit to their

:06:40.:06:45.

bottom line. But what about digital advertising? Going viral on the

:06:46.:06:48.

Internet is considered the new holy Grail. What does it take to maximise

:06:49.:06:56.

your shares? I'm really is dedicated to analysing digital viewing habits,

:06:57.:07:01.

and we spoke to their co-founder -- Unruly. We are seeing tremendous

:07:02.:07:07.

growth in this region. In India we are seeing explosive growth with

:07:08.:07:11.

mobile usage and with mobile advertising. India is interesting

:07:12.:07:15.

because it is still early days for that market. A lot still goes into

:07:16.:07:21.

old-fashioned media such as TV, newspapers and prayed. But we are

:07:22.:07:26.

seeing a big shift. Up to $1 billion this year in digital ad spend, which

:07:27.:07:31.

will double by 2020 -- print. What does it take for a video to go viral

:07:32.:07:36.

in this world, and what numbers are we talking about? What we are

:07:37.:07:40.

booking ads when we are tracking the reality is emotional impact and

:07:41.:07:46.

social sharing. They are different emotions that trigger people in

:07:47.:07:50.

different demographics to have a strong response and share the video.

:07:51.:07:54.

A great example is the difference between baby Boomers and millennial

:07:55.:07:57.

's. Millennial is a more inspired to share is a video makes them happy,

:07:58.:08:01.

and they want to share quickly. Whereas with baby Boomers, they are

:08:02.:08:06.

much more prepared to wait it out and find a bit of content. It

:08:07.:08:10.

doesn't matter if it is a week or two old. If it has integral value in

:08:11.:08:14.

their eyes, they will share that content. Ten years ago, we were

:08:15.:08:18.

looking at a million views for a vile hate, and now it is tens of

:08:19.:08:22.

millions. Are they shared across borders? -- viral hit. The extent to

:08:23.:08:31.

which use a shared more broadly or narrowly is emotional trigger.

:08:32.:08:36.

Videos tend to struggle to cross boundaries because you might does

:08:37.:08:40.

not always cross borders well, whereas happiness is a global

:08:41.:08:45.

trigger. We see brands looking to create inspirational heartwarming

:08:46.:08:47.

content able to cross those national boundaries more easily.

:08:48.:08:51.

That was Sarah Wood from Unruly. We have covered our fair share of scary

:08:52.:08:58.

stories on this programme, but this Halloween, stock crashes and profit

:08:59.:09:02.

warnings can step aside, because it is one of the most important times

:09:03.:09:07.

of the year for theme parks. Over in Hong Kong, they are going all out

:09:08.:09:12.

with spooky events to try to attract more visitors at a time when tourist

:09:13.:09:15.

numbers have been dropping. We went to find out more.

:09:16.:09:20.

Halloween. It is a chance to dress up in costumes, and for some, an

:09:21.:09:27.

occasion for ghostly encounters. And for theme parks, it is a chance to

:09:28.:09:33.

cash in on festivities. At Hong Kong's Ocean Park, they have hired

:09:34.:09:36.

more than a dozen performers and lodged a Ghostbusters game for fans.

:09:37.:09:41.

And this is peace be keep offering for visitors looking for that extra

:09:42.:09:46.

right. -- this is the spooky offering. I think it was very scary.

:09:47.:09:53.

It was fun. Even though I knew what is going in expecting, it was still

:09:54.:09:58.

dramatic. You see one, and then the other one pops up. It gives you a

:09:59.:10:03.

fight. Ocean Park expects 1 million visitors to its Halloween event this

:10:04.:10:07.

year. There is a reason why theme parks very special event. They had

:10:08.:10:10.

to be created to attract new customers. It has not been easy for

:10:11.:10:14.

Hong Kong's tourism industry. Numbers dipped with mainland China

:10:15.:10:21.

tourists dropping by 9%. Despite the drop, Ocean Park says it is

:10:22.:10:24.

confident it can bring tourists back. We are continuing to see some

:10:25.:10:28.

softening in the tourism market in Hong Kong because of some of the

:10:29.:10:34.

social issues, also the currency and the strengthening of the Hong Kong

:10:35.:10:38.

dollar has impacted inbound tourism. Right now we are seeing a trend

:10:39.:10:41.

coming back. Groups from China are strong. We certainly hope to see

:10:42.:10:48.

that continue. We have been looking at other markets. Tourism from the

:10:49.:10:53.

Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore, and Halloween abstract that business as

:10:54.:10:57.

well. As the sun sets, more ghosts, to play. Ocean Park is to be a

:10:58.:11:03.

novelty for tourists and residents in Hong Kong. But now it faces

:11:04.:11:08.

competition from Disneyland in Hong Kong and Shanghai. And several new

:11:09.:11:12.

theme parks are set to open in Asia next year. While tourists are spoilt

:11:13.:11:17.

for choice, Ocean Park will be hoping it's scary side keeps

:11:18.:11:18.

visitors coming back for more. I can tell you, looking at the

:11:19.:11:29.

markets, they are getting screwed as well buy fresh worries over US

:11:30.:11:31.

presidential candidate's Hillary Clinton scandal a week ahead of the

:11:32.:11:38.

election. The Nikkei reversing their six-month highs we told you about at

:11:39.:11:42.

the start of the programme. The Hang Seng has also opened weaker. The

:11:43.:11:46.

only one defined that is the stallion All Ordinaries, which is

:11:47.:11:51.

currently five. That is it for this edition of Asia Business Report -- a

:11:52.:11:58.

stallion. Thank you for watching. -- Australian.

:11:59.:11:59.

The Democratic leader in the US Senate furiously denounces the head

:12:00.:12:05.

of the FBI over the investigation into Hillary Clinton's e-mails.
