Good afternoon. A new satellite image has been released showing

debris in the southern Indian Ocean which could be the remains of the

Malaysian passenger plane that's been missing for two weeks. The new

picture which was taken by a Chinese satellite on Tuesday appears to show

a large object in the sea, around 75 miles from an earlier sighting of

possible debris. Our correspondent Alastair Leithead is in Kuala

Lumpur. His report contains flash photography from the start.

The search for flight MH370 has taken many twists and turns. Still

the mystery has not been solved. As the acting trance for minister took

questions, the daily routine briefing, another twist was coming.

Out of you, he was handed a note on a piece of paper. The news I

received is that the Chinese ambassador received satellite images

of floating objects in the southern corridor and they will be sending

ships to verify. The Beijing government have announced -- will

announce this in a couple of hours. It was 22m long. This was the new

satellite image. It shows a huge floating object that is hard to make

out what it is. Search teams have been scarring the southern corridor

for the past three days. Last Sunday, the first image was captured

by an Australian satellite. This latest image was recorded two days

later on Tuesday showing what might be wreckage 75 miles south-west of

the previous one. Is it the same object? What does it tell

investigators? It is highly unlikely that in two days any debris would

have moved in that direction at that speed. We are either looking at

something completely unrelated or we are looking at parts of the same

debris from something which has spread over quite a wide area. After

two weeks of searching in long-range state-of-the-art planes, there have

been many theories and false leads. But this latest find could be

useful. It will help refocus efforts on what is still nominally a search

and rescue operation in the southern Indian Ocean. But for those wanting

to resolve this mystery, it is at the very least a new lead. Families

of those on board came to wait meeting in Beijing hoping for news.

Tempers flared as Malaysian officials refuse to take questions.

We want to know what happened. They accused the Malaysian government of

concealing information, delaying. They feel they have waited too long

for answers. And families here do not want wreckage to be found. The

lack of accurate information is giving them hope. Many believe the

passengers and crew are still alive, as unlikely as that now

appears. Alastair Leithead is in Kuala

Lumpur. Tell us more about how the news emerged. It came as something

of a surprise. It did. Very much so. It was announced in the middle of a

news conference and it came from the Chinese ambassador. I do not think

he wanted the message to come out. China has wanted to try and take

control of this because two thirds of the passengers were Chinese. They

are under a lot of pressure because of the anger of the families over

delays. China is used to being able to throw its weight around in the

region. Because it is being run in Malaysia, they have not been able to

do that. Perhaps they are trying to catch up by showing me satellite

images, to try and show that they do have strong capability to be able to

lead these kind of investigations, to be involved in the way they

should be. These photographs are fascinating and will play an

important role in the research and rescue operation continues.

A veteran Republican has appeared in court in Belfast charged in

connection with the abduction and murder of a woman 40 years ago. Jean

McConville, who was a mother of ten, was one of the so-called

disappeared, people who were killed and secretly buried by the IRA. Ivor

Bell, who is 77, was denied bail. Our Ireland correspondent Chris

Buckler reports. The photograph Jean McConville's

children have of their mother is decades old. In 1972, they watched

as she was dragged out of her home by an IRA gang. When do you think

you will see your mum again? I don't know. Keep our fingers crossed and

pray hard. They would never see her alive again. She became known as one

of the disappeared. People abducted, killed and buried in secret by

republican paramilitaries. Today more than four decades later members

of Jean McConville's family went to court to see a man charged in

connection with her killing. Ivor Bell is alleged to be a former IRA

leader. Today he was accused of aiding and abetting in Jean

McConville's murder. It is claimed the evidence came from test to me he

had given. But McRae testimony. He gave interviews about the Troubles

on condition the Boston tapes would not be published until they died.

Today in Belfast there were protests from some who regard this as a

political prosecution of an elderly man who once represented Republicans

in talks with the British Government. Ivor Bell was denied

bail. In court, his lawyer indicated he would be denying all of the

charges connected to the killing of a widowed mother taken from her home

in West bar fast. Any trial has the potential to be difficult for senior

Republicans, particularly as other allegations have already emerged as

a result of the Boston tapes -- West Belfast. In an interview, the late

IRA commander claimed the Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams was involved

in Jean McConville's death, something he has always denied.

There is only one man who gave the order. That man is now the head of

Sinn Fein. It is only a decade since Jean McConville's remains were

discovered on a beach. Her family says that what ever happens the pain

of losing her will never go away. Russian troops have stormed two

military bases in Crimea in the first direct use of force by Russian

military personnel since the start of the crisis over Ukraine. On

Friday, Russian president, Vladimir Putin, signed a law formalising

Russia's takeover of Crimea from Ukraine, despite fresh sanctions

from the EU and the US. Our correspondent Ian Pannell was inside

the airbase in Belbek when it was stormed by Russian soldiers. What

happened? Pretty extraordinary scenes. There had been a tense build

up over a number of days and then we sort the Russian forces come down

the hill from parts of the base they controlled using armoured vehicles

with heavy guns mounted on top and they tried to battle their way

firstly into the gate and secondly into the outer perimeter wall which

they managed to breach in two locations. It was an incredibly

tense situation. There were a distraction grenades, loud

explosions, automatic gunfire and special forces, Russian special

forces moving in to the base itself. They forced the Ukrainian troops

into one area, forcing them effectively to disarm. Now the bases

under the control of Russian forces. Briefly, it looks like the pressure

is ramping up. Yes, it does. An extraordinary escalation of force by

Russia. There are only a handful of bases left still technically under

the charge of Kiev. Despite an attempt to try and handle both

locally, they clearly decided enough is enough and they want the rest of

these bases under their control. Tonight, they have almost achieved

that. In football, Arsene Wenger's 1,000th match didn't go quite to

plan. His team Arsenal were thrashed in a 6-0 defeat against rivals

Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Katie Gornall watched the action.

18 years since he first arrived in London, Arsene Wenger's 1000th game

Their first blow was clinical, delivered by Samuel Eto'o, Arsenal

barely had time to dust themselves off before Andre Schurrle sent them

to the canvas once more. Arsenal resorted to desperate measures. This

handball was blatant but not to the referee who sent off a bewildered

Kieran Gibbs by mistake. Despite the culprit saying, it was me. Eden

Hazard slotted home the penalty. Inevitably, more goals followed. Six

in total for Chelsea. Arsene Wenger has had many great memories at

Arsenal, but this was one to forget. Despite the vast experience I have,

when you do not turn up in a game like that, it is your

responsibility. This was Chelsea's biggest win in the Premier League

under Jose Mourinho. Come the end of the Stephen, it could even more
