The former Conservative Prime Minister, Sir John Major,

who wants to keep Britain in the EU, has made a scathing attack

on the Leave campaign, branding it fundamentally dishonest.

He said it had been deceitful and that, on the issue

of immigration, it verged on being "squalid".

Boris Johnson has responded for the Leave campaign,

defending the focus on immigration, and claiming the UK's population

could rise to 80 million if not brought under control.

Here's our political correspondent, Chris Mason.

As Prime Minister he was caricatured as grey, even boring. Sir John Major

himself acknowledges he was often understated. Not this morning he

wasn't. Take a look at this. I am angry at the way the British people

are being misled. What they have done now they've begun the campaign

is to feed out to the British people a whole galaxy of inaccurate and

frankly untrue information. I think their campaign is verging on the

squalid. What they have said about leaving is fundamentally dishonest.

I think this is a deceitful campaign. And he wasn't finished.

After the Leave campaign promised the NHS an extra ?100 million a

week, Sir John said those who said that simply couldn't be trusted.

Well, Michael Gove wanted to privatise it. Boris wanted to charge

people for using it and Iain Duncan Smith wanted a social insurance

system. The NHS is about as safe with them as a pet hamster would be

with a python. The former Prime Minister suggested that claims that

Turkey would soon join the EU is misleading. Is it seriously

suggested, as they do, that all 88 million Turks would come here,

apparently for our high ermine mum wage. On the one hand they say are

depressing wages and on the other hand they are not. It is nonsense.

Boris Johnson was uncharacteristically understated

today but defended a Leave poster claiming Turkey would soon be in the

EU. If the poster said that it is Government policy that Turkey at

some stage should join the EU it would be true. Turkey is ginning the

EU, it is not true. It is policy that Turkey's membership should be

accelerated. A direct question to and answer from a fellow Out

campaigner. You would reduce immigration currently from outside

the EU and from inside the EU to tens of thousands? Yes. The stakes

are getting higher, and there's And Chris is here now. Chris, the

stakes are higher than ever now. Quite. Let's be clear. What really

hearts now is the referendum in a couple of weeks rather than ructions

in the Conservative Party. But there's just one thing that's

guaranteed in politics in the next three weeks. And that is whatever

the result, Conservatives are still in Government. Whoever is at that

top table has to deal with a tribe that's been prising itself apart

publicly for months. The expectation if the language is like this now

with two-and-a-half weeks to go, things can only get far more bitter

and that will have consequences. Chris, thank you.

The family of Muhammad Ali say people from all over the world

are invited to his funeral in the boxer's home town

Details of the service were revealed at a news conference in Arizona,

where Ali died yesterday at the age of 74.

And that funeral for Muhammad Ali will be held in an arena a few

blocks from here in the centre of Louisville. It will be led by an

Imam. Some say it is a testament to the man that even though he was a

Muslim and a funeral will be led by an Imam, there'll be prayers said
