Welcome to Reporting Scotland. Tonight on your national news - | :00:14. | :00:17.
more fall-out from the News Of The World scandal. A day after a | :00:17. | :00:20.
dossier of alleged victims is handed to police, prosecutors ask | :00:20. | :00:23.
them to investigate specific claims of phone hacking by the paper in | :00:23. | :00:28.
Scotland. Also coming up tonight: | :00:28. | :00:31.
We're live around the country, as Scotland plays host to three big | :00:31. | :00:41.
:00:41. | :00:41. | ||
events this weekend. Join me at Balado, where the music is already | :00:41. | :00:51.
:00:51. | :01:00. | ||
underway at T In The Park. Up and Prosecutors have asked Strathclyde | :01:00. | :01:03.
Police to examine specific claims of phone hacking by the News Of The | :01:03. | :01:07.
World. It comes after a dossier was handed to the force yesterday, | :01:07. | :01:10.
containing a list of names of people in Scotland who were | :01:10. | :01:20.
:01:20. | :01:21. | ||
allegedly targeted. David Henderson reports. | :01:21. | :01:25.
For years, Andy Coulson put the rich and famous under the spotlight. | :01:25. | :01:29.
Today, it has been his turn. Detectives arrived at his house in | :01:30. | :01:33.
south London while he was under arrest over claims of corruption | :01:33. | :01:39.
and phone hacking. He gave evidence at Tommy Sheridan's trial, and in | :01:39. | :01:43.
court, said he knew nothing of payments made to corrupt police | :01:43. | :01:50.
officers. Today, that claim would be challenged by detectives. Why? | :01:50. | :01:57.
Will, in June e-mails were discovered at News International, | :01:57. | :02:03.
showing journalists requesting payments of 130,000 being made to | :02:03. | :02:07.
police the sensitive information. This was over a seven-year period, | :02:07. | :02:11.
and for most of that time, Andy Coulson was editor of the News Of | :02:11. | :02:17.
The World. Yesterday, Tommy Sheridan's lawyer and a senior MP | :02:17. | :02:20.
presented a list of names to police of people they claimed had their | :02:20. | :02:24.
phones hacked by the News Of The World. Today, the Crown Office | :02:24. | :02:30.
ordered a fresh investigation. Of The World were up to their necks | :02:30. | :02:34.
in it, and this has gone on for several years, we what a full-scale | :02:34. | :02:37.
inquiry, north and south of the border. They should be held to | :02:37. | :02:40.
account, we were told this was just an English thing, but it has been | :02:41. | :02:44.
happening in Scotland for a long time. A public inquiry will now be | :02:45. | :02:48.
held into the scandal. The Prime Minister, announcing the move in | :02:48. | :02:52.
Downing Street this morning. Everything that happened is going | :02:52. | :02:57.
to be investigated. The witnesses will be questioned by a judge under | :02:57. | :03:03.
oath. And no stone will be left unturned. But does that include | :03:03. | :03:07.
Scotland? There are concerns an inquiry by a judge in England may | :03:07. | :03:12.
focus only on the News Of The World's activities of there, and | :03:12. | :03:17.
not on what has happened here. seems like some people in Scotland | :03:17. | :03:21.
have been drawn into this, even though it was centred in London, | :03:21. | :03:25.
and therefore, it there has to be an appreciation that standards have | :03:25. | :03:30.
to apply it to the press in Scotland as well as elsewhere. | :03:30. | :03:34.
Tonight, detectives removed a computer from Andy Coulson's home, | :03:34. | :03:39.
along with bags of files and papers. A major investigation is now | :03:39. | :03:42.
gathering pace. A woman has been cleared of | :03:42. | :03:46.
murdering her lover's wife. At the High Court in Edinburgh the judge, | :03:46. | :03:48.
Lord Brailsford, ruled there wasn't enough evidence to convict Rita | :03:48. | :03:52.
Heyster of killing Carol Jarvis. The mother-of-four was found dead, | :03:52. | :03:55.
taped up in a blanket under the floor of her house in Bathgate in | :03:55. | :03:59.
West Lothian. Rita Heyster had been having an affair with Carol's | :03:59. | :04:03.
husband and lived in a hut in their garden. She still faces charges of | :04:03. | :04:09.
trying to cover up the death. Ms Heyster denies the charges. | :04:09. | :04:11.
Dozens of homes in Edinburgh have been flooded after heavy rain | :04:11. | :04:15.
caused flash floods in the capital. Motorists were also caught out by | :04:15. | :04:18.
the downpour, with up to three feet of water on some streets. Gavin | :04:18. | :04:28.
:04:28. | :04:48. | ||
A member of the public filmed the Flash floods hit across the City | :04:48. | :04:57.
and beyond. Here, Edinburgh as but the worst affected area. This is | :04:57. | :05:00.
the scene a couple of hours on. But earlier, things were much, much | :05:00. | :05:06.
worse. This is the same area a couple of hours earlier. This | :05:06. | :05:10.
picture, from a well known social network side, shows the whole area | :05:10. | :05:16.
under water. Some residents arrive home to find fire crews trying to | :05:17. | :05:21.
pump water from their homes, while other -- others simply let to stay | :05:21. | :05:26.
with friends until the waters subsided. When they do, the damage | :05:26. | :05:31.
is expected to be extensive. Many homes and businesses were inundated. | :05:31. | :05:35.
This council charity had just finished refitting its office. It | :05:35. | :05:39.
says its bill is expected to be substantial, they did know how they | :05:39. | :05:45.
can pay. We had claims come in, we had to let them in the fire exit, | :05:45. | :05:52.
we had to keep going. How do you pay for the repairs? That a very | :05:52. | :05:57.
good question! Mini parked cars were inundated, too. And even | :05:57. | :06:06.
public transport did not escape. A final total for damages to be | :06:06. | :06:12.
collected, it is expected to be substantial. -- yet to be | :06:12. | :06:22.
:06:22. | :06:24. | ||
calculated. Still to come before 7pm, it has been a mixed day of | :06:24. | :06:27.
weather, I will have the full forecast. | :06:27. | :06:30.
And in sport, before the weather rolled in, the long putts were | :06:30. | :06:34.
rolling in for the Scots at the Scottish Open. We'll be live at | :06:34. | :06:41.
Castle Stuart - lightning permitted Tens of thousands of music fans | :06:41. | :06:44.
have descended on Balado near Kinross for T in the Park, which | :06:44. | :06:52.
got underway in past hour. Catriona Shearer is there for us tonight. | :06:52. | :06:57.
Well, I hear you talking about flashlight in Edinburgh. We're so | :06:57. | :07:01.
much luckier here at Balado, the sun is shining, it is fantastic. It | :07:01. | :07:06.
is such a great atmosphere, and everybody is well and truly | :07:06. | :07:11.
exciting. -- excited. There was even a pipe band to pipe in the | :07:11. | :07:16.
thousands of people who made their way in here, and this is the 18th | :07:17. | :07:25.

and our reporter has been meeting some of the band. Turning | :07:39. | :07:45.
attempting to a home isn't any easy task, but 1000 will be just that, | :07:45. | :07:49.
turning this disused airfield temporary into the 5th biggest town | :07:49. | :07:54.
in Scotland. Every year, I say I'm not camping, but I still come back. | :07:54. | :07:59.
You can just have a nice drink and chill out. All my friends are | :07:59. | :08:05.
coming every single year. You can't get a better weekend. You get the | :08:05. | :08:08.
full experience from camping, apparently! I will tell you on | :08:08. | :08:15.
Monday! Arctic Monkeys are among the 200 Act to appear here at the | :08:15. | :08:25.
:08:25. | :08:27. | ||
weekend, alongside Coldplay and Tom And a new direction, Scottish Opera, | :08:27. | :08:30.
making their debut with a pocket- sized Rigoletto to win over pop | :08:30. | :08:35.
fans. We just take opera to places where it is not normally heard. The | :08:35. | :08:40.
idea is we reach out to the public, and it is a case of us going out to | :08:40. | :08:46.
them and showing them what opera is all about, and it is not just some | :08:46. | :08:50.
sort of ivory towers, something for posh people. It is for everyone. | :08:51. | :08:55.
The event hasn't just grown, it has been extended, with fans arriving | :08:55. | :08:59.
in the main arena this afternoon. Would this about a people in one | :08:59. | :09:03.
place, it has its own problems, with drink and drugs are | :09:03. | :09:08.
particularly. Police are concerned with a rogue batch of ecstasy | :09:08. | :09:12.
tablets which have been linked with the death of up to people so far. | :09:12. | :09:17.
Fortunately -- unfortunately, drugs are taken every day, and there are | :09:17. | :09:23.
no people will be bringing drugs to this double, those people bring the | :09:23. | :09:30.
mark by very nature unscrupulous, you don't know what their strength | :09:30. | :09:35.
is, don't know the quality, don't go near them. Fans, they say, to | :09:35. | :09:40.
play their own part in making sure Scotland's biggest musical this | :09:40. | :09:49.
double its stake as well as on. -- musical best double. Somebody who | :09:49. | :09:55.
has just come of the brain stage, I'm joined by the Boys From Big | :09:55. | :10:04.

was fantastic. What was the atmosphere like? Every year, it | :10:10. | :10:18.
gets better and better. You come as a band -- Thanh? Al, yes. It busby | :10:18. | :10:22.
said different playing at it. see my house from here, believe it | :10:22. | :10:31.
or not! You played here, of course, at the very first as double. I was | :10:31. | :10:38.
the opening act. It is amazing to see it grow. It is now so | :10:38. | :10:42.
synonymous with Scotland, just like another Scottish city on the map it | :10:42. | :10:50.
appears once. It still retains its sense of community. You have | :10:50. | :10:54.
obviously not changed much in those 18 years, but has this place? | :10:54. | :10:57.
think the organisers have kept their sense of identity, that is | :10:57. | :11:02.
what brings everyone, not just from Scotland, but from what made the | :11:02. | :11:08.
world. I could see people from all matters -- nationalities, at the | :11:08. | :11:14.
front. It is not just locals, it is global. It does attract audiences | :11:14. | :11:18.
from all over the world. But the Scottish audiences do have Arab | :11:18. | :11:24.
addition to being some of the most the separate and enthusiastic. | :11:24. | :11:31.
litter, in the old days come when we would play in Glasgow, up to | :11:31. | :11:39.
Inverness, all places would be incredible atmosphere. Thank you | :11:39. | :11:43.

can catch all the highlights on the BBC. | :11:47. | :11:51.
As thousands of us prepare to fly off on holiday, Edinburgh Airport | :11:51. | :11:54.
is attempting to speed up the process of getting through security. | :11:54. | :11:57.
The airport wants passengers to be well prepared for their trips to | :11:57. | :12:05.
cut down delays. Catriona Renton reports. | :12:05. | :12:10.
So, you're nearly ready for the off. But there are still security to go, | :12:10. | :12:13.
and if you're rude about long queues, being prepared can save | :12:13. | :12:20.
literally hours. We estimate that at I'm prepared passenger can spend | :12:20. | :12:26.
three or five minutes more than prepared passenger. When you think | :12:26. | :12:29.
about the thousands of passengers, that can add up to a long time. | :12:29. | :12:33.
What sort of things should not be wearing to get yourself rich | :12:33. | :12:41.
security more quickly? Things like this bank or, -- bangle, your phone, | :12:41. | :12:45.
coins come anything metallic. The water, we would have to dispose of | :12:45. | :12:52.
here. Things in your handbag, fake tan, you would have to leave here. | :12:52. | :12:59.
Perfume, it is too big to take three. Last year, almost come to | :12:59. | :13:03.
two tonnes of waste were confiscated at security, mainly | :13:03. | :13:08.
deodorant, alcohol and Per Kian. Is the message getting through? I know | :13:08. | :13:15.
I went to Holland in May, forgot you can only take through 50 mill, | :13:15. | :13:22.
you just forget. You put them in a plastic bag, you say about a hassle. | :13:22. | :13:27.
We thought we would take something nice and Scottish. Apparently, a | :13:27. | :13:34.
good set of the alarms. It will be interesting to see. People seem to | :13:34. | :13:40.
be getting the message, largely, but look at this. This is that the | :13:40. | :13:44.
number of sharp object that had been collected just this morning | :13:44. | :13:48.
Edinburgh airport, then we have these bottle of expensive alcohol, | :13:48. | :13:53.
it is going to be heartbreaking for people that have lost them, because | :13:53. | :13:57.
they are going to be destroyed. Better just put the things you | :13:57. | :14:03.
really want with you in your hold luggage. And other items like jam, | :14:03. | :14:10.
snow globes, and... Would you be upset if the man says you can't | :14:10. | :14:20.

take that route? Good luck with Some of the other stories across | :14:22. | :14:28.

weekend we have dozens of tall ships have been gathering this | :15:38. | :15:48.
:15:48. | :15:49. | ||
afternoon. I am on board a Russian ship. It is the largest here in | :15:49. | :15:53.
Greenock. You can have a look around at the tall Ships Festival | :15:53. | :16:03.
:16:03. | :16:05. | ||
this weekend. This is, after all, a race. It is a chance for crews from | :16:05. | :16:11.
across the world to show what they can do. The other story is on land. | :16:11. | :16:16.
The festival was last here in 1999 and it generated 15 million for | :16:17. | :16:24.
the local economy. Organisers hope for a repeat. It is described as | :16:24. | :16:28.
the greatest show on water. These Colombian's like to put on a | :16:28. | :16:33.
display. The weather may be more unpredictable than back at home for | :16:33. | :16:37.
them but they are still glad to be here. | :16:37. | :16:42.
It is the first time we have visited Scotland with our ship. It | :16:42. | :16:48.
is a great opportunity for us to find out more about your country. | :16:48. | :16:55.
But this is not just a festival. It is a race. And some are finding the | :16:55. | :16:59.
conditions around Scotland challenging. This is one of the | :16:59. | :17:04.
largest class of the tall ships. It has travelled from Waterford in | :17:04. | :17:08.
Ireland. Despite the weather they are still hoping that Greenock will | :17:08. | :17:13.
give them a very warm welcome. When the rain stops it is still a | :17:13. | :17:18.
challenge to bring all the ships into the harbour. | :17:18. | :17:23.
It is tough, I can assure you. We have container ships and all the | :17:23. | :17:29.
other usual traffic. Oil tankers, ships to Glasgow. We have to carry | :17:29. | :17:35.
on and manage all that business. It has been challenging. | :17:35. | :17:42.
But the effort has been worthwhile. If you look at the ships which | :17:42. | :17:47.
Carmen, the cruise ships, they bring in tourists, and now this, it | :17:47. | :17:53.
has put Greenock on the map. The ships are fantastic. I cannot | :17:54. | :18:00.

Everything that the Scottish Open can throw at you. But admit it all | :19:19. | :19:26.
it has been a heart-warming Caledonian Challenge. Tiger Woods | :19:26. | :19:30.
may be absent but the Celtic Tiger's are setting the heather on | :19:30. | :19:36.

the European tour and if he hit two eagles. Former champion, Graham | :19:43. | :19:49.
McDowell, of Northern Ireland, I joined him on 11 under. | :19:49. | :19:57.
It was a dream start. I played some nice golf and took a few chances. A | :19:57. | :20:05.
perfect morning for scoring. I started with a bogey again - that | :20:05. | :20:11.
must be a good omen. I made four birdies in a row straight after it. | :20:11. | :20:16.
Then a few eagles, that was a nice boost. | :20:16. | :20:20.
As the morning session drew to a close another Scot joined them at | :20:20. | :20:26.

the Open Championship. This is one of the best courses we | :20:32. | :20:37.
will play all year. It eases you end to what will be a tougher test | :20:37. | :20:42.
next week. The threat of lightning suspended | :20:42. | :20:47.
play as the afternoon wore on but organisers claim they are delighted | :20:47. | :20:52.
with the way the tournament is progressing on a new golf course. | :20:52. | :20:57.
The players' comments have been overwhelmingly positive. They're | :20:57. | :21:02.

biggest of his career so far. Good And now the weather. It has been a | :22:45. | :22:51.
mixed day of weather across the country. There is a Met Office | :22:51. | :22:55.
warming in place for continued heavy downpours throughout the | :22:55. | :23:02.
central belt and East Coast. Showers will continue this evening | :23:02. | :23:11.
particularly around the Borders and Lothian. Areas farther west are | :23:11. | :23:18.
likely to see some dry skies but with all the rain and cloud around | :23:18. | :23:24.
temperatures will still be around ten Celsius. Tomorrow, the showers | :23:24. | :23:29.
will still be with us particularly down the east coast where they will | :23:29. | :23:35.
be prolonged and heavy. There is an East/West split tomorrow. You will | :23:35. | :23:41.
note is that as we go through the day tomorrow. Around mid-afternoon | :23:41. | :23:47.
we can expect temperatures around the south-west to hit 19 Celsius. | :23:47. | :23:52.
Walking our way up towards the Western Isles it, if you encounter | :23:52. | :23:56.
the sunshine and some pleasant ones temperatures will be around 18 | :23:56. | :24:02.
Celsius. East however, here is where we are likely to see the | :24:02. | :24:12.
:24:12. | :24:12. | ||
showers. Out on the mountain's the East/West split is still in play. | :24:12. | :24:16.
The breeze is coming from the north-west. It will be wet in the | :24:16. | :24:23.
east and you could get caught in some heavy showers. Out on the | :24:23. | :24:33.
:24:33. | :24:39. | ||
water, we can expect for so three to for so for gales. -- force three | :24:39. | :24:46.
to force four. Looking at the pressure charged we can see average | :24:46. | :24:51.
of high pressure which will help later on in the weekend. We will | :24:51. | :24:59.
then see more dry and settled conditions. Showers in the north, | :25:00. | :25:04.
drier and brighter in the south. We hold on to that theme going into | :25:04. | :25:11.
next week. Showers are likely anywhere across the country however. | :25:11. | :25:17.
So, this weekend, a mixed picture for most of the country. Some of | :25:17. | :25:22.
the downpours tonight across the East Coast and central belt could | :25:22. | :25:31.
