Tonight on Reporting Scotland: The number of homicides drops to the | :00:14. | :00:21.
lowest level since records began. Operating losses for Rangers of £14 | :00:21. | :00:25.
million but the company says it's within its five year plan. | :00:25. | :00:29.
This Fife teenager says the swine flu jab left her with a condition | :00:30. | :00:33.
which makes her fall asleep without warning. It can happen 25 to 30 | :00:33. | :00:46.
times a day off medication. And also tonight: I am at Celtic | :00:46. | :00:54.
Bach where there is a huge night ahead in the Champions League. Join | :00:54. | :01:00.
me for all the build-up before Celtic against Barcelona. -- I am at | :01:00. | :01:08.
Celtic Park. Paws off. Why rubbing one of our | :01:08. | :01:12.
best-loved statues for luck hasn't proved so fortunate for Greyfriars | :01:12. | :01:15.
Bobby. The number of home side in Scotland has fallen to its lowest | :01:15. | :01:18.
level since records began 40 years ago. In the end of the year to March | :01:18. | :01:25.
there were 62 killings, a total of eight third less than the previous | :01:25. | :01:30.
year to March. A woman's body was found in this | :01:30. | :01:35.
house in Glasgow ten days ago. A man has appeared in court. But this is | :01:35. | :01:39.
becoming a less common sight in Scotland. There were 62 homicides, | :01:39. | :01:47.
illegal killings, in the last year. The figure is the lowest since 1976 | :01:47. | :01:53.
when records began to be compiled. Police say it is largely due to a | :01:53. | :01:59.
reduction in knife carrying. The number of stop and searches that we | :01:59. | :02:02.
carry out is proportionate to where we believe there is a threat of | :02:03. | :02:07.
people carrying knives. That has been consistent with the reduction | :02:07. | :02:11.
in not just homicides but also in attempted murders and Sirius | :02:11. | :02:17.
assaults. Violence was very much in the headlines in 1976, when | :02:17. | :02:22.
statisticians first began compiling the homicide figures. It was then | :02:22. | :02:26.
that the officer was found dead. Thomas McCulloch and another man | :02:26. | :02:31.
murdered three people as they escaped from the top security state | :02:31. | :02:37.
hospital. McCulloch was finally released from jail earlier this | :02:37. | :02:42.
year. Criminologists recognised today's figures are part of a | :02:42. | :02:46.
downward trend, for which there may be a number of reasons. Part of it | :02:46. | :02:53.
is cultural. There has been a shift in our experiences and tendency to | :02:53. | :02:57.
commit violent crimes. We have certainly seen a change in the | :02:57. | :03:00.
profile of the offending population but it may also be linked to some of | :03:00. | :03:05.
our criminal justice policy developments as well. The Government | :03:05. | :03:09.
has welcomed today's figures as evidenced Scotland is getting safer | :03:09. | :03:16.
but ministers say they hide a more devastating statistic. We are aware | :03:16. | :03:20.
that 62 families have grieved the loss of a loved one and that | :03:20. | :03:27.
communities have been devastated. We want to change attitudes and the | :03:27. | :03:32.
culture in Scotland, because alcohol abuse is still prevalent amongst | :03:32. | :03:37.
those who die. Only one of last year's murders remains unsolved, | :03:37. | :03:40.
with the figures showing 77% of victims knew their killer. | :03:41. | :03:47.
Newsnight Scotland will be looking further into the reason for the drop | :03:47. | :03:51.
in homicides. That is at 11pm tonight. | :03:51. | :03:56.
Judges have begun a hearing to decide whether the man cleared of | :03:56. | :03:59.
the World's End murders in Edinburgh should face a retrial. 17-year-olds | :03:59. | :04:04.
Christine Eadie and Helen Scott were killed following a night out in the | :04:04. | :04:09.
capital in 1977. Angus Sinclair was acquitted of their murders six years | :04:09. | :04:13.
ago. Lawyers are arguing both of them is enough new evidence to retry | :04:13. | :04:19.
the 68-year-old and a Scotland's new double jeopardy legislation. | :04:19. | :04:22.
Rangers have reported operating losses of £40 million. The figures | :04:23. | :04:27.
cover the 30 months to June after the club's assets were bored out of | :04:27. | :04:37.
administration. -- the 13 months. As you would expect, lots of numbers | :04:37. | :04:42.
in majors' account. Let's look at the big ones. Turnover of just over | :04:42. | :04:48.
£19 million, but a loss of £14 million. It is no surprise the cross | :04:48. | :04:53.
has made a loss given their problems, but why so large? Income | :04:53. | :04:58.
was down, season tickets by a third, TV rights and sponsorship was | :04:58. | :05:01.
sharply lower and the club had to cut costs. The player wage bill was | :05:01. | :05:08.
down from £30 million to below £18 million. Though manager Ally McCoist | :05:08. | :05:13.
got more than £800,000. Rangers also faced one-off costs linked to | :05:13. | :05:18.
adjusting life in the lower divisions. | :05:18. | :05:23.
They are now in the third tier, with Ibrox packed last week for the 8-0 | :05:23. | :05:30.
win over Stenhousemuir. But the club raised £35 in funds by selling | :05:30. | :05:35.
shares but at the end of June with some season tickets sold there was | :05:35. | :05:42.
only £11 million in cash, raising the question, how long before they | :05:42. | :05:46.
run out? Unless something dramatically changes like in the | :05:46. | :05:51.
revenue line, it does not look like they have enough cash to see them | :05:51. | :05:56.
through to Scottish Premiership. Fans were getting used to the red | :05:56. | :06:03.
ink. You have to get used to it. It is all picking back up so he does | :06:03. | :06:09.
not really matter. If it was not for Ally McCoist we would not be doing | :06:09. | :06:15.
anywhere near as well as we are now. He is a cheeky chappie. He's lovely. | :06:15. | :06:22.
The club says these figures represent the start of its five-year | :06:22. | :06:26.
recovery time. Confirmed today, former chief executive Charles Green | :06:26. | :06:29.
is no longer a major shareholder, and current directors half dismissed | :06:29. | :06:35.
the latest proposal to replace them. It will come to a head when | :06:35. | :06:38.
shareholders, including a lot of fans, meet for the AGM on the 24th | :06:38. | :06:43.
of this month. You are watching Reporting Scotland | :06:43. | :06:47.
from the BBC. Still to come: The family of this Stornoway man missing | :06:47. | :06:48.
in Turkey for three years hope a new family of this Stornoway man missing | :06:48. | :06:53.
documentary will trigger a new search for him. | :06:53. | :06:59.
In sport, the fans are writing in anticipation. Join me at Celtic Park | :06:59. | :07:03.
for all the build-up to Celtic against Barcelona, the first of the | :07:03. | :07:07.
glamour home ties of the Champions League. And I will have a very | :07:07. | :07:10.
special guest. That is all the sport, coming soon. | :07:10. | :07:17.
A Scots woman accused of drug smuggling in Peru is making her | :07:17. | :07:20.
latest appearance before a judge in Lima this evening. Last week, | :07:20. | :07:24.
20-year-old Melissa Reid from Lenzie near Glasgow and her co-accused, | :07:24. | :07:30.
Michaela McCollum, from Ireland, pleaded guilty to the charges. But | :07:30. | :07:34.
the prosecution has asked for more information about how they became | :07:35. | :07:40.
involved in trafficking cocaine. This is the third Court hearing for | :07:40. | :07:44.
Melissa Reid and Michaela McCollum, and the second to be held inside | :07:44. | :07:49.
these men's prison. Inside he is a makeshift court room, too small to | :07:49. | :07:52.
receive the press and the public, and we are told the judge will be | :07:52. | :07:57.
hearing their testimony and cross examining them in a private hearing. | :07:57. | :08:01.
Prosecutors objected to their guilty pleas, saying they have not given | :08:01. | :08:06.
enough evidence and have not given enough detail as to why they were | :08:06. | :08:09.
pleading not guilty. We will find out at a later date if this is going | :08:09. | :08:13.
to be enough for them to be a bull to reduce the possible sentence | :08:13. | :08:18.
between eight and 15 years. The sentencing is likely to be later on | :08:18. | :08:21.
this month. Labour have called for a ministerial | :08:21. | :08:25.
statement to the Scottish Parliament after it was revealed that nearly | :08:25. | :08:29.
£30 million has been spent on the cancelled Glasgow Airport Rail Link. | :08:29. | :08:34.
The SNP Government ditched the project in 2009 but in a written | :08:34. | :08:37.
answer to a parliamentary question, they revealed that over £29 million | :08:37. | :08:41.
had been spent on land, compensation and other costs. | :08:41. | :08:45.
The Scottish Information Commissioner has criticised public | :08:45. | :08:50.
authorities for failing to respond adequately to freedom of information | :08:50. | :08:53.
requests. Rosemary Agnew says there has been a 14% rise in appeals in | :08:53. | :08:58.
the last year from people who are dissatisfied with the way the | :08:58. | :09:01.
questions have been dealt with. The commissioner says authorities should | :09:01. | :09:04.
be more effective in giving and public information, nine years after | :09:04. | :09:07.
the legislation was introduced. Comedian and actor Lee Connelly has | :09:07. | :09:12.
been given the all clear from prostate cancer after undergoing | :09:12. | :09:15.
surgery in America to treat the early stages of the disease. The | :09:15. | :09:19.
70-year-old is also being treated for Parkinson 's. | :09:19. | :09:23.
Nor can see is a condition that can make a sufferer fall asleep without | :09:23. | :09:28.
warning dozens of times a day. -- narcolepsy. Now a teenager from | :09:28. | :09:33.
Kirkaldy has told the BBC she became a sufferer after being given a swine | :09:33. | :09:42.
flu jab. Her story has been highlighted by Iwan Thomas from The | :09:42. | :09:46.
One Show. 14-year-old Chloe from five | :09:46. | :09:49.
developed narcolepsy shortly after having the swine flu jab in 2009. -- | :09:49. | :09:58.
Fife. Her condition is so severe it became too much for her. I snapped | :09:58. | :10:02.
suddenly. It was not a planned thing. I took an overdose. You felt | :10:02. | :10:10.
so desperate you thought, I need to end this? Yes, I thought to myself, | :10:10. | :10:17.
what is the point of going on when I am never really going to be able to | :10:17. | :10:22.
stay awake a full day in my life? Within minutes I discovered just how | :10:22. | :10:28.
difficult it is for Chloe to get through the day. I have just come | :10:28. | :10:35.
back and Chloe is fast asleep. Rebecca, how often does this | :10:35. | :10:40.
happen? 25 to 30 times a day off medication. This is the fourth time | :10:40. | :10:47.
she has fallen asleep today and this is on medication. This is what is | :10:47. | :10:51.
dangerous. We are in a park. If I wasn't here... This is how serious | :10:51. | :10:59.
it is. Our reporter is here now. How many other cases are there like this | :10:59. | :11:03.
across the UK? The charity narcolepsy UK believe only is among | :11:03. | :11:09.
25 children throughout agent who have developed narcolepsy after they | :11:09. | :11:13.
were given the swine flu accent. The company who produced that, | :11:13. | :11:19.
GlaxoSmithKline, say they are actively researching how narcolepsy | :11:19. | :11:28.
is involved. At the time, Chloe and others were given this fact in and | :11:28. | :11:32.
it was approved but there was other advice issued in 2011 which stopped | :11:32. | :11:36.
the vaccine being given to those under 20. But here we are, the | :11:36. | :11:42.
winter if you -- winter flu vaccination programme this year has | :11:42. | :11:47.
just got under way and patients are being assured by senior medics at | :11:47. | :11:51.
the Scottish Government that there is no need for concern about this | :11:51. | :11:56.
winter's vaccine. The vaccine that has been associated with narcolepsy | :11:57. | :12:02.
revisiting is very different to the seasonal flu vaccine. That one has | :12:02. | :12:08.
not been used since 2011. All of the current ones have no association | :12:08. | :12:11.
with narcolepsy and have axle and safety records. -- excellent safety | :12:11. | :12:18.
record. We must protect the public against this extremely serious | :12:18. | :12:25.
inflection, the flu. It will be of some interest to Chloe's family to | :12:25. | :12:29.
hear that the Department of Work and Penions have been considering | :12:29. | :12:32.
research into the narcolepsy cases and have decided that on balance of | :12:32. | :12:37.
probability, in some cases a link to this vaccine was proved, so it looks | :12:37. | :12:42.
likely compensation will be paid from the Government of the UK to | :12:42. | :12:46.
some families and a few health care workers who also think they have | :12:46. | :12:50.
been affected. They are hoping to pursue the back the's makers. Thank | :12:50. | :12:58.
you very much. Residents of a Dundee hotel had to | :12:58. | :13:06.
be evacuated this morning following a suspected chlorine gas escape. Two | :13:07. | :13:11.
chemicals were accidentally mixed together in the plant room at the | :13:11. | :13:14.
Doubletree by Hilton. No-one was injured. Nu Labour alliance has been | :13:14. | :13:21.
formed to run the Dumfries Council. It follows the collapse of the old | :13:21. | :13:25.
administration after half the Conservative group resigned. | :13:25. | :13:28.
The Queen has officially opened a new Emergency Care Centre at | :13:28. | :13:31.
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The 350-bed building brings together the | :13:31. | :13:33.
city's emergency and urgent-care facilities for the first time. | :13:33. | :13:36.
The Scottish Episcopal Church is setting up a programme in the Moray, | :13:36. | :13:40.
Ross and Caithness diocese to enable the use of Gaelic in church services | :13:40. | :13:43.
more regularly. It will involve training Gaelic speakers to give | :13:43. | :13:46.
them the confidence to lead worship in the language. The census has | :13:46. | :13:57.
indicated that there are more young people picking up Gaelic. If they | :13:57. | :14:02.
are going to end at being congregations, we need to be | :14:02. | :14:06.
conscious of providing something for them in a language which they | :14:06. | :14:09.
clearly hold dear. Four helicopter crewmen have been | :14:09. | :14:12.
recognised for their bravery in rescuing 11 people from an oil | :14:12. | :14:15.
industry supply vessel in the North Sea last December. Graham Stein, | :14:15. | :14:18.
Nick Smalley, Paul Walters and Andy Cowx have received gallantry awards | :14:18. | :14:20.
from the Shipwrecked Mariners Society. | :14:21. | :14:24.
More than 1,100 P7 pupils in Dumfries and Galloway are being | :14:24. | :14:27.
given life-skills training by the emergency services. Issues covered | :14:27. | :14:30.
include fire, electrical and water safety and new threats like cyber | :14:30. | :14:40.
bullying. They are getting to that stage in life where they are in | :14:40. | :14:43.
counting new things and freedoms they did not have before. So they | :14:43. | :14:49.
are being exposed to new dangers, and this is to prepare them for the | :14:49. | :14:52.
freedom they have. And there are more stories from your | :14:52. | :14:56.
area - and all the latest news, 24 hours a day on BBC Scotland's | :14:56. | :15:00.
website. The family of a Scottish man missing | :15:00. | :15:04.
for three years in Turkey hope a new BBC ALBA documentary about his | :15:04. | :15:07.
disappearance will trigger a fresh search for him. Donald Mackenzie, | :15:07. | :15:10.
from Stornoway, was hunting for the remains of Noah's Ark on Mount | :15:10. | :15:13.
Ararat in Turkey when he disappeared in 2010. It's feared the devout | :15:13. | :15:17.
christian died in a mountain accident, but his family haven't | :15:17. | :15:23.
given up all hope. Jackie O'Brien reports. Donald Mackenzie from | :15:23. | :15:31.
Stornoway was described as an Ireland Indiana Jones who had | :15:31. | :15:35.
visited Mount Ararat many times in search of proof of the ancient | :15:35. | :15:45.
biblical story, Noah's Ark. But he failed to return from a trip to the | :15:45. | :15:49.
mountain three years ago, leaving his family mystified. Derek McInnes | :15:49. | :16:02.
it has retraced his brother's journey in search for truth amid | :16:02. | :16:06.
stories he could have been robbed during his assent or targeted by | :16:07. | :16:12.
religious extremists. The authorities have refused to launch a | :16:12. | :16:16.
mountain search because you did not have a permit to claim it. They are | :16:16. | :16:21.
not pleased with the fact he was illegally on the mountain. This is | :16:21. | :16:26.
also something which dampens their enthusiasm with regard to looking | :16:26. | :16:31.
for Donald. His van and possessions were tracked down as well as his | :16:31. | :16:37.
friends, not the only one convinced that the 47-year-old was can -- | :16:37. | :16:43.
claimed by the mountain. Somewhere there, he was camping and the site | :16:44. | :16:54.
has been disturbed by villagers. I think I have found some truth with | :16:54. | :16:57.
regard to the demise of Donald certainly. I am glad about that. | :16:57. | :17:05.
Some believe that Donald Mackenzie's obsession with Noah's | :17:05. | :17:10.
Ark cost him his life. But back on the isle of loose there is hope this | :17:10. | :17:13.
latest search will trigger new clues. I like to think I will see | :17:13. | :17:24.
him again. Still, there is hope, isn't the? And you can see more of | :17:24. | :17:32.
that in "My Brother the Ark Raider" this Thursday night at nine o'clock | :17:32. | :17:36.
on BBC Alba. Rhona's at Celtic Park tonight ahead of their battle with | :17:36. | :17:42.
Barca - how's the atmosphere Rhona? Thank you, yes, it is the first of | :17:42. | :17:50.
the big night yet Celtic Park. The first home glamour tie in the | :17:50. | :17:53.
Champions League as the superstars of Barcelona have come to town. And | :17:53. | :17:57.
the flavour around Glasgow today has been distinctly Spanish. Our very | :17:57. | :18:02.
own Senorita of sport Jane Lewis can tell us more. Barcelona fans in good | :18:02. | :18:13.
voice in Glasgow and despite their last visit here, in confident mood. | :18:14. | :18:20.
Come on Celtic, we will enjoy this night. But come on bad guy. For sure | :18:20. | :18:33.
we are going to win. The fans were mixing well in the city and so to | :18:33. | :18:40.
where the VIPs from the club. The entertainment was courtesy of local | :18:40. | :18:50.
children. The VIPs were looking forward to another big night of | :18:50. | :18:53.
champions league football. The enters the patient is where you want | :18:53. | :18:59.
to be, not just the finances but the profile and exposure for the club. | :18:59. | :19:03.
It is the best club tournament in the world. To be part of that, | :19:03. | :19:09.
people sit up and recognise what you've done. It is truly a world | :19:09. | :19:15.
event tonight. It was almost a year ago that Celtic beat Arsenal some | :19:15. | :19:21.
honour for that famous when. -- beat Barcelona. We'll be fans be saying | :19:21. | :19:31.
tonight? I think tonight will be better. They are still the top team | :19:31. | :19:37.
in Europe but at Celtic Park with the fans behind them, they have a | :19:37. | :19:42.
great chance. So what are Celtics chances against | :19:42. | :19:45.
Barcelona? They beat them here last year - can they do it again? A short | :19:45. | :19:49.
while ago I spoke to the former Celtic defender Gary Caldwell. It is | :19:49. | :19:56.
obviously going to be a very difficult game. Barcelona are one of | :19:56. | :20:03.
the best teams which have ever been. They have to draw on experience of | :20:03. | :20:06.
last year remember what they did on that night to win the game. | :20:06. | :20:10.
Hopefully they can have the same outcome tonight. You have been in | :20:10. | :20:15.
the Celtic dressing room on big European nights like this, what will | :20:15. | :20:17.
the Celtic dressing room on big be owing on? I think the excitement | :20:17. | :20:22.
and just looking forward to the game. As a footballer you want to | :20:22. | :20:26.
play in games like this against the best players in the world. Barcelona | :20:26. | :20:31.
have some of the best players in the world so the players will be looking | :20:31. | :20:35.
forward to it. They know the challenge ahead is a big one, will | :20:35. | :20:40.
be looking forward to the game and looking forward to getting out there | :20:40. | :20:43.
and putting on a good performance and get a result. We know that | :20:43. | :20:49.
Lionel Messi is missing but could you underestimate the rest of the | :20:49. | :20:53.
squad? They have other world-class players as well but Lionel Messi is | :20:54. | :20:57.
the one who can hurt you. That should help Celtic, but they have | :20:57. | :21:01.
other players that can cause problems. They will still have to be | :21:01. | :21:08.
on their game defensively. Do you think that Barcelona will fear | :21:08. | :21:12.
Celtic going ahead, they talked about the aerial attack threat? I | :21:12. | :21:18.
think so. The stadium as well and what the fans bring to the game. | :21:18. | :21:22.
Everyone in Europe knows what I threat that is. Barcelona know that | :21:22. | :21:28.
on the night at Parkhead Celtic can when so they will be very careful | :21:28. | :21:32.
this year. And Gary is part of our Sportsound | :21:32. | :21:38.
team. The whole match live on BBC Radio Scotland 810 medium wave - the | :21:38. | :21:42.
guys are already on air. And on the website there's full coverage | :21:42. | :21:49.
including live texts. There have been mixed fortunes for | :21:49. | :21:52.
the two Scottish Daniels at the world gymnastic Championships in | :21:53. | :21:57.
Antwerp. The European pommel champion Daniel Keatings fell from | :21:57. | :22:00.
the horse to end his chances of a world medal. But better news for Dan | :22:01. | :22:07.
Purvis who qualified for Thursday's all red final in seven plays and | :22:07. | :22:10.
says that is still room for improvement. If I got another two | :22:10. | :22:16.
marks I would be in the top three and hopefully I can do that on | :22:16. | :22:23.
Thursday. Fingers crossed I will be in the final. | :22:23. | :22:33.
That's it from Celtic Park for now. Kick-off is less than an hour away | :22:33. | :22:37.
and we will have a full report on the late Reporting Scotland at half | :22:37. | :22:41.
past ten. Thank you very much. It's might be | :22:41. | :22:46.
for luck or just a sign of affection. But rubbing the nose of | :22:46. | :22:49.
Grayfriars Bobby, the statue the world famous Skye Terrier in | :22:49. | :22:52.
Edinburgh, has had an undesired effect. The action of thousands of | :22:52. | :22:59.
sightseers has given the nose a bit of a shine and now it's having to be | :22:59. | :23:02.
repaired. Morag Kinniburgh reports. It hurts to be loved so much, his | :23:02. | :23:07.
nose is eroded by fans. Restoration work has begun to prevent serious | :23:07. | :23:13.
damage. Locals say the nose rubbing must be stopped. There have been | :23:13. | :23:19.
late-night visits with black boot polish. So that tourists when the | :23:19. | :23:26.
rubber come away with slightly dirty hands. But polish is used by | :23:26. | :23:33.
professionals to bring back the colour before wax is used. It is | :23:33. | :23:39.
night -- nice to restore it but I do not get annoyed at all that M it is | :23:39. | :23:44.
so much admired as part of the Edinburgh scene. That is loved and | :23:44. | :23:50.
appreciated. It is a great asset to the city. This threat has been | :23:50. | :23:58.
robbed for years. Why have we developed such a fascination with | :23:58. | :24:05.
rubbing statues? You just want to see what it is so that you don't | :24:05. | :24:10.
miss out on something. Maybe just to see what it feels like. It is the | :24:10. | :24:17.
philosophy behind it. The story of the loyal dog which kept guard at | :24:17. | :24:23.
his grave has become world-famous. The council will be erecting | :24:23. | :24:29.
barriers to protect it. You have two approaches sensitive leg, rub it in | :24:29. | :24:36.
a gentle fashion and try not to rob layers of it off to take back to the | :24:36. | :24:41.
native states or elsewhere. The council argues nose rubbing is a bad | :24:41. | :24:46.
habit. Therefore look the weather. | :24:46. | :24:49.
Therefore look the The North was the place to be today, | :24:49. | :24:55.
scarcely a cloud in the sky. It has not been that way for everyone but | :24:55. | :24:59.
has been mainly drive. We have high pressure sitting over Scandinavia | :24:59. | :25:04.
and it is keeping these weather fronts away. Most of us will stay | :25:04. | :25:12.
dry tonight though it will be breezy with strong winds, gale force over | :25:12. | :25:16.
the Northern Isles. Some patchy drizzle over the hills tonight. More | :25:16. | :25:23.
persistent rain gets into Galloway and Western Argyle tomorrow morning. | :25:23. | :25:28.
It will be chilly in the far north. Clear skies down to six or seven | :25:28. | :25:34.
Celsius. We start out with a lot of cloud tomorrow and that rain will | :25:34. | :25:37.
affect many Western partners during morning. It will head eastwards as | :25:37. | :25:43.
the day goes on, becoming lighter and patchy as it does so. A largely | :25:43. | :25:51.
dry day in the East. By three o'clock some dry conditions for | :25:51. | :25:54.
Ayrshire and Galilee but still patchy rain for Galloway and | :25:54. | :26:02.
Perthshire and Stirlingshire. -- Yushu and Galloway. Another fine day | :26:02. | :26:11.
in the North. The North Highlands will see sunshine. Fresh to strong | :26:11. | :26:18.
southeasterly winds. They will remain throughout the afternoon and | :26:18. | :26:24.
evening. That remain -- that will remain for the evening. This weather | :26:24. | :26:30.
front will push ends on Thursday, bringing heavy spells of rain, | :26:30. | :26:34.
especially for the West Coast. That rain eases on Thursday. Temperatures | :26:34. | :26:43.
are around 17 or 18 Celsius. It will be Friday before the winds begin to | :26:43. | :26:49.
ease. It will start out wet in the west and then become drier. It will | :26:49. | :26:54.
be a more settled weekend. Now, a reminder of tonight's main | :26:54. | :26:55.
news in brief... be a more settled weekend. | :26:56. | :26:57.
Now, a reminder The number of homicides in Scotland has fallen to | :26:57. | :27:00.
its lowest level since records began nearly forty years ago. In the year | :27:00. | :27:04.
to the end of March, there were 62 killings - a fall of a third | :27:05. | :27:08.
compared with the total for the previous 12 months. | :27:08. | :27:15.
National parks and zines have closed in the US as some government | :27:15. | :27:19.
departments are shut down by the first time in 80 years. It is the | :27:19. | :27:23.
result of a bitter battle between Democrats and Republicans over the | :27:23. | :27:27.
budget. Rangers have reported operating | :27:27. | :27:32.
losses of £40 million. The figures cover the 30 months to June after | :27:32. | :27:37.
the clubs assets report out of administration. Rangers says the | :27:37. | :27:39.
results are in line with its five-year strategic plan. That's it | :27:39. | :27:41.
for now, goodbye. | :27:41. | :27:44. |
