stand firm, dismissing talk of a leadership challenge, | :00:00. | :00:00.
The Union Dividend versus the Independence Bonus - | :00:00. | :00:08.
the two competing claims about the costs and benefits | :00:09. | :00:11.
of voting Yes or No in September. Our | :00:12. | :00:15.
political editor and our economics correspondent will be analysing | :00:16. | :00:18.
the two visions for Scotland's future. Also | :00:19. | :00:23.
on the programme: After the fire - an | :00:24. | :00:25.
exclusive look look inside Glasgow's Art School, to see just how much | :00:26. | :00:29.
live with the build-up as Scotland face Nigeria. | :00:30. | :00:41.
Good instructing has some simple advice. It is simple. You have the | :00:42. | :00:55.
ball, you try to score. They have the ball, you try not to let them | :00:56. | :00:56.
score. BT spend millions to get their name | :00:57. | :01:06.
above the door at Murrayfield. In three and a half months time, you | :01:07. | :01:11.
will decide to vote for or against independence, and today, the two | :01:12. | :01:17.
sides stepped up their campaigns. The UK Government set out what | :01:18. | :01:19.
it's calling its Union Dividend. Over the next 20 years, it says, | :01:20. | :01:22.
one ?1,400 each year will be saved Meanwhile, the Scottish Government | :01:23. | :01:26.
has made its own offering Within 15 years of a Yes vote, | :01:27. | :01:31.
and with projected growth, it claims every Scot would be wealthier | :01:32. | :01:37.
to the tune of ?1,000 a year. Not only are | :01:38. | :01:41.
the scenarios complicated, but unsurprisingly, both sides | :01:42. | :01:43.
dispute the other's figures. In a moment, we'll hear more about | :01:44. | :01:47.
that so-called independence bonus, but first, here's our political | :01:48. | :01:51.
editor, Brian Taylor, on how the In advance, Danny Alexander talks | :01:52. | :02:09.
money with medical students. What is the money that will be available in | :02:10. | :02:14.
the future? I like emergency medicine but the hours are horrific. | :02:15. | :02:19.
Today at a press conference Danny Alexander said, stick with the | :02:20. | :02:25.
union. Here is how Westminster does the sums. Under independence, | :02:26. | :02:31.
Scotland would have to meet these cost alone. It is currently matched | :02:32. | :02:33.
by all revenues. The Treasury says the oil revenues | :02:34. | :02:44.
are already in decline and we have an ageing population. Total added | :02:45. | :02:57.
costs from independence... Takeaway ?389 per person for Scotland's | :02:58. | :03:01.
greater share of oil under independence. That leaves ?1400. | :03:02. | :03:06.
It is a ?1400 dividend every year for every Scot. This is the Treasury | :03:07. | :03:16.
paper but Scottish ministers say it was undermined in advance by | :03:17. | :03:23.
exaggerated estimates of the start-up costs of an independent | :03:24. | :03:26.
Scotland. They were based on academic studies and the academics | :03:27. | :03:30.
themselves have disowned the Treasury calculation is. A major | :03:31. | :03:37.
part of this has been destroyed by one of the authorities they were | :03:38. | :03:42.
claiming. So we should not believe the Treasury. | :03:43. | :03:54.
While the Treasury was making its arguments, the Scottish Government | :03:55. | :03:59.
was setting out how prosperous it thinks an independent Scotland could | :04:00. | :04:02.
be. Our correspondent has been looking at the case for the | :04:03. | :04:06.
Independence Bonus. By the time these youngsters reach | :04:07. | :04:10.
graduation age, the Scottish Government says an independent | :04:11. | :04:15.
Scotland could be enjoying a year and is in its economic fortunes. So | :04:16. | :04:21.
how would we climbed this growth ladder within 15 years? By growing | :04:22. | :04:24.
employment. 3.3%. Partly with more free childcare. By | :04:25. | :04:34.
growing the working age population. And by growing productivity. | :04:35. | :04:43.
You put of these things together and it is ?1000 per Scot, ?2000 per | :04:44. | :04:51.
Scottish family. We can make Scotland a more prosperous and just | :04:52. | :04:56.
society. The Scottish Government's latest oil forecasts are down on | :04:57. | :04:59.
last year but they said revenues should pick up as new production | :05:00. | :05:03.
comes on stream. What the Scottish Government could not specify today | :05:04. | :05:08.
is how much setting up an independent Scottish state would | :05:09. | :05:12.
cost. The First Minister said ?250 million was a reasonable estimate. | :05:13. | :05:18.
His buyout secretary said it would depend on negotiations with the rest | :05:19. | :05:24.
of the UK. Calculating Scotland's share of UK assets like this new | :05:25. | :05:29.
aircraft carrier would also require negotiation. But prounion | :05:30. | :05:33.
campaigners say independence would leave us worse off. All the | :05:34. | :05:39.
independent analysis tells us an independent Scotland would start | :05:40. | :05:41.
with a biggest fiscal deficit than the rest of the UK, and what they | :05:42. | :05:46.
would face, we would face, following a Yes vote, would be higher taxes, | :05:47. | :05:52.
cutting public spending or probably both. Bedside in the referendum want | :05:53. | :05:57.
voters to consider the balance of their economic argument before | :05:58. | :06:03.
deciding which way to jump. Let's speak now to our economics | :06:04. | :06:07.
correspondent in Glasgow and Brian Taylor, the Parliament in Edinburgh. | :06:08. | :06:14.
Both projections wildly different. Cannot be true. How do people begin | :06:15. | :06:20.
to know who to believe? Well, it is a real headache for people when they | :06:21. | :06:24.
are working out which figure is true or not, and the likelihood is that | :06:25. | :06:27.
both figures are not correct, because when you are looking at | :06:28. | :06:31.
projections 20 years ahead of time, the likelihood is so many variables | :06:32. | :06:35.
are in place that no one is able to hit the nail on the head. Also, both | :06:36. | :06:40.
sides are picking out the figures that suit their own arguments, | :06:41. | :06:47.
cherry picking. If you look at projections over one year, five | :06:48. | :06:49.
years and ten years, often you will get a very different outcome, and | :06:50. | :06:52.
that is what we have seen today. Of course, in anyone's book ?1000 is a | :06:53. | :06:56.
lot of money and nothing to be sniffed at, but you would imagine | :06:57. | :06:59.
that people value lots of different things when it comes to either an | :07:00. | :07:02.
independent Scotland, or staying as part of the UK, so it is not | :07:03. | :07:07.
necessarily just these extra bonus check one way or another that people | :07:08. | :07:11.
will be casting their votes on. Brown, how will today's events help | :07:12. | :07:16.
those people who are still undecided? They will have to go | :07:17. | :07:18.
through the figures themselves and make their minds up. It is about | :07:19. | :07:23.
status and growth. It is about where Scotland is going, particularly it | :07:24. | :07:26.
is about where Scotland is going, and that is a question of trust and | :07:27. | :07:31.
belief. Do you believe that Scotland's economy would grow more | :07:32. | :07:34.
positively and independence, or under maintaining the union? I have | :07:35. | :07:39.
never encountered a period when people are so engaged and | :07:40. | :07:42.
enthusiastic about the debate, but it does not appear to be universal | :07:43. | :07:47.
with regard to that. Cinemas are having to withdraw adverts for the | :07:48. | :07:53.
Yes and no campaigns as, as ever in politics, there is a row about who | :07:54. | :08:00.
is responsible for the campaigns. It appears people do not want to be | :08:01. | :08:04.
cajoled at the cinema. They just want to watch the movie. I'm sure | :08:05. | :08:11.
today's events will feature in BBC Scotland's new current affairs | :08:12. | :08:13.
programme. Here is what is on tonight. | :08:14. | :08:17.
On Scotland 2014 tonight we will be doing the sums, trying to work out | :08:18. | :08:21.
whether we would be better off or worse off in independent Scotland, | :08:22. | :08:25.
and I will be talking to the First Minister about the costs of setting | :08:26. | :08:30.
up a brand-new state. So join me at 10:30pm on BBC Two tonight. | :08:31. | :08:34.
In the meantime, still to come on Reporting Scotland: Drawings from | :08:35. | :08:39.
Glasgow's official First World War artist go on display in the city. | :08:40. | :08:44.
And in sport, it is a name change but is it a game changer? Selling | :08:45. | :08:50.
the naming rights to Murrayfield, we are told, could transform Scottish | :08:51. | :08:54.
rugby. And we are live as Scotland prepare | :08:55. | :09:02.
to face Nigeria. Reporting Scotland has been given a | :09:03. | :09:05.
first look inside Glasgow School of Art five days after it was | :09:06. | :09:09.
devastated by fire. Salvage work continues to rescue the contents of | :09:10. | :09:13.
the historic library and student portfolios. Although many parts | :09:14. | :09:19.
survived unscathed. We really did not know what we were | :09:20. | :09:23.
going to see and it is really testament to the work of the fire | :09:24. | :09:27.
services that we are able to stand in this space just now. And you can | :09:28. | :09:32.
still smell the smoke, but largely intact. It is incredible. I really | :09:33. | :09:36.
did not think we would have this much left, and the space is smoke | :09:37. | :09:42.
damaged but fine. The clocks may have stopped, the walls may be | :09:43. | :09:47.
blackened, but the Macintosh still stands and up to 70% of the contents | :09:48. | :09:51.
survived. What is amazing is that on the East side of the building, whole | :09:52. | :09:56.
rooms survived intact without any damage whatsoever. This is the | :09:57. | :10:00.
Macintosh room, used for meetings, and everything, including these | :10:01. | :10:05.
distinct Macintosh details, have survived. The West side of the | :10:06. | :10:09.
building is a different story. The world-famous library, only recently | :10:10. | :10:13.
restored, was completely destroyed. But it is one of the best documented | :10:14. | :10:17.
rooms in the world, and the Macintosh archive in the concrete | :10:18. | :10:21.
basement of the East Wing also survived intact. The level of | :10:22. | :10:26.
interest in Macintosh is such that our archive records are fantastic. | :10:27. | :10:30.
We have no shortage of expertise and so we are very well placed with | :10:31. | :10:34.
Glasgow School of Art to help in the reconstruction. Meantime, students, | :10:35. | :10:39.
who abandoned everything when the fire boat out, must anxiously await | :10:40. | :10:43.
the return of their work. Much depends on their medium and where in | :10:44. | :10:48.
the building their studios were, but all will return on Friday. We have | :10:49. | :10:53.
had to shut the campus town for the last five days and I have been | :10:54. | :10:56.
describing to the students that what we have done is, effectively, freeze | :10:57. | :11:02.
Glasgow School of Art. It got frozen on Friday afternoon. On Friday this | :11:03. | :11:07.
week, the school will open again and we will get on with business as | :11:08. | :11:12.
usual as much as possible. Today, it is clear how much work has to be | :11:13. | :11:19.
done, but it is also clear how much has been saved and how determined | :11:20. | :11:24.
they are to rebuild it. Meanwhile, firefighters have been | :11:25. | :11:28.
tackling a large blaze at a derelict school in Glasgow where the former | :11:29. | :11:33.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was taught. At its services | :11:34. | :11:37.
were called to Broomloan Primary school in Ibrox earlier this | :11:38. | :11:39.
afternoon. No one is believed to have been in the building. The fire | :11:40. | :11:45.
has brought down part of the roof. Progress has stalled on reducing the | :11:46. | :11:48.
number of hospital acquired infections. According to a report by | :11:49. | :11:52.
Health Protection Scotland, infections picked up in hospitals | :11:53. | :11:55.
and care homes continue to pose a significant threat to safety. A | :11:56. | :12:02.
national scheme to monitor how often medical staff wash their hands ended | :12:03. | :12:05.
last year, despite showing one in ten doctors were not complying with | :12:06. | :12:09.
hygiene rules. As a company, Serco is perhaps | :12:10. | :12:13.
better known for running prisons, so what do we make of the fact it is | :12:14. | :12:17.
set to take over the Scotland to London sleeper service? Serco says | :12:18. | :12:22.
it will transform it with investment in new carriages, complete with | :12:23. | :12:24.
ensuite cabins and gourmet food, but it comes as a -- at a cost, as we | :12:25. | :12:32.
now report. It is almost the journey's end for | :12:33. | :12:37.
these old carriages. The years and the Scottish weather have not been | :12:38. | :12:42.
kind. Now Aberdeen -based First Group is preparing to hand over to | :12:43. | :12:47.
rivals Serco, which today won the battle for the Caledonian sleeper | :12:48. | :12:50.
franchise from April. New custom-built carriages are on the | :12:51. | :12:54.
way here is a glance of the future. These drawings show how Serco plans | :12:55. | :12:59.
to drive up standards on board. That is when the new | :13:00. | :13:00.
to drive up standards on board. That is when the trains arrive in 2018. | :13:01. | :13:05.
There will be new features, ensuite facilities for the first time, sleep | :13:06. | :13:11.
pods that artfully requiring the ball -- that recline fully. There | :13:12. | :13:18.
will be a reservation system that is easier to use and we are | :13:19. | :13:21.
will be a reservation system that is easier keen to get early boarding | :13:22. | :13:26.
times for passengers. Serco already operates luxury long haul rail | :13:27. | :13:30.
services across Australia. Also the Indian Pacific... Ministers here say | :13:31. | :13:40.
there is no reason why the Caledonian sleeper shouldn't also be | :13:41. | :13:43.
counted amongst the great rail journeys of the world. If we sell it | :13:44. | :13:48.
in the right way so people see it as a real experience, the sleeper | :13:49. | :13:51.
service going on to other parts of Scotland as well, and make sure it | :13:52. | :13:55.
is a quality experience, I reckon it can be one of the best services in | :13:56. | :14:01.
the world. Creating a world-class sleeper service will not be cheap. | :14:02. | :14:07.
But what about the cost to passengers? We are told a range of | :14:08. | :14:10.
ticket deals and accommodation on-board will mean all of us can | :14:11. | :14:17.
afford to travel on the new Caledonian sleeper. | :14:18. | :14:23.
Now, a look at other stories from the across the country. | :14:24. | :14:26.
Police Scotland's rationalisation of its control and command centres | :14:27. | :14:28.
has started with the closure of the Dumfries and Galloway divisional | :14:29. | :14:31.
34 civilian jobs are being lost - although the union Unison says 14 | :14:32. | :14:36.
Other closures are scheduled in Stirling, Glenrothes, | :14:37. | :14:39.
It is a blow for the community and the control centre is being | :14:40. | :14:53.
transferred into Motherwell. It is a sad day for Dumfries and the people | :14:54. | :14:57.
who work for police Scotland. It is a sad day all round. | :14:58. | :15:02.
A series of public consultations are being held this week over | :15:03. | :15:05.
the planned new Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre. | :15:06. | :15:07.
Supporters say it's vital for the North East's economic future, but | :15:08. | :15:10.
The Royal Bank of Scotland is to close four | :15:11. | :15:15.
The sites at Dalbeattie, Whithorn, Glenluce and Lochmaben will go | :15:16. | :15:19.
RBS say it's because of falling business as more people | :15:20. | :15:22.
But local politicians say the closures will hit | :15:23. | :15:26.
The film and television company behind the Inbetweeners series has | :15:27. | :15:34.
announced it's moving its operations from London to the Isle of Skye. | :15:35. | :15:37.
YoungFilms is already working on commissions for the BBC and | :15:38. | :15:40.
Channel Four and its Gaelic drama serial Bannan airs later this year. | :15:41. | :15:43.
The company says it's to expand significantly its Skye workforce. | :15:44. | :15:51.
?2 million could be spent replacing badly corroded street lights | :15:52. | :15:54.
Stringent testing was introduced after one of the lights fell over. | :15:55. | :15:58.
94 lamp posts are so badly corroded they need to be | :15:59. | :16:01.
A huge new housing development for Aberdeen has taken a step forward. | :16:02. | :16:09.
Councillors have approved a planning application in principle | :16:10. | :16:11.
for 4,700 homes at the Granom Estate, between Danestone and Dyce. | :16:12. | :16:14.
Schools, shops and green spaces are all included in the proposal. | :16:15. | :16:25.
Let's get the sports news now from David. | :16:26. | :16:28.
There's a new name above the door of home of Scottish rugby - it's now | :16:29. | :16:32.
the BT Murrayfield stadium. The Scottish Rugby Union has sold the | :16:33. | :16:36.
naming rights in a twenty million pound sponsorship deal - a deal the | :16:37. | :16:40.
SRU says is momentous for the sport in this country. More from our rugby | :16:41. | :16:43.
We already knew it was a case of Murrayfield no more. So today was | :16:44. | :17:00.
all about the National Stadium?s new name. The BT Murrayfield Stadium. | :17:01. | :17:04.
Heralding a new age for Scottish rugby. This is a major deal. | :17:05. | :17:10.
Probably the biggest change in sports history. Everyone who kicks a | :17:11. | :17:17.
ball and plays rugby in Scotland will see BT?s influence on the game | :17:18. | :17:23.
in Scotland. The SRU is calling today?s | :17:24. | :17:26.
announcement a game changer for the sport in this country. ?20 million | :17:27. | :17:30.
is a lot of money, so what do they propose to do with that? The answer | :17:31. | :17:36.
is to grow Scottish Rugby Union. For new academies will be rolled out | :17:37. | :17:39.
across the country to nurture young talent. They will also spend money | :17:40. | :17:46.
on strengthening the domestic game. Wiping out the SRU?s debt and | :17:47. | :17:49.
funding a third professional team, that will not be happening. We have | :17:50. | :17:55.
always been open to discussing finance but our view is that this | :17:56. | :17:59.
money will primarily be building the grassroots of our game. The game | :18:00. | :18:06.
needs an injection of cash. It has been a difficult time for club rugby | :18:07. | :18:12.
in general and we hope this will boost club rugby in Scotland as well | :18:13. | :18:18.
as the academies. Did I say Murrayfield? That is now a | :18:19. | :18:20.
thing of the past. Scotland are in action tonight. Alas | :18:21. | :18:27.
though it's the opposition who're preparing for the finals in Brazil. | :18:28. | :18:31.
The match is taking place at Craven Cottage from where our senior | :18:32. | :18:35.
football reporter Alasdair Lamont joins us now. | :18:36. | :18:37.
Al, the build-up to this match hasn't been all about the football | :18:38. | :18:40.
has it? Now, it has been overshadowed to a | :18:41. | :18:47.
large extent over the last 24 hours by suspicions of match-fixing. This | :18:48. | :18:52.
is something that is taken very seriously, I can tell you, by the | :18:53. | :18:58.
authorities. I am joined by the cull manic and Scotland striker, Kris | :18:59. | :19:02.
Boyd. With regards to allegations of match-fixing, you have been in a lot | :19:03. | :19:05.
of dressing rooms over the years. Did these things affect player | :19:06. | :19:10.
preparation at all? I do not think so. They will be focusing on | :19:11. | :19:14.
finishing the season. They want to finish off and put on a good | :19:15. | :19:18.
performance and go on holiday. But match-fixing probably happens in a | :19:19. | :19:21.
lot of countries, but we're not used to it. Hopefully we will get a | :19:22. | :19:24.
positive result for the country tonight. | :19:25. | :19:27.
Let's focus on the football. The Greg Inglis, Hutton, Mulgrew, Brown, | :19:28. | :19:37.
Naismith. It's not an experimental team. We have picked up positive | :19:38. | :19:44.
results in the last few games and we will look to continue that. We're | :19:45. | :19:48.
bringing in Shaun Maloney and James Morrison to give them a chance. I am | :19:49. | :19:52.
looking forward to seeing young Andrew Robertson to see if he can | :19:53. | :19:59.
perform at an international level. Would you expect Scotland to | :20:00. | :20:02.
continue that good run? I think they can. I know other teams are | :20:03. | :20:08.
preparing for the World Cup. But if Scotland start this game right and | :20:09. | :20:13.
get in their faces, because the last thing they want to do is get injured | :20:14. | :20:19.
before a World Cup, so it's Scotland's ten ticket early doors | :20:20. | :20:22.
and get a result, that will be a positive end to the season. | :20:23. | :20:28.
A compact stadium, so it should be a good atmosphere. Yes. With the team | :20:29. | :20:37.
that we have, I expect them to cause problems. So I am looking forward to | :20:38. | :20:39.
the game. Thank you. Kris Boyd will be part of | :20:40. | :20:46.
the football coverage later on BBC One. | :20:47. | :20:49.
You can watch the match live on BBC One Scotland. Coverage starts at | :20:50. | :20:52.
five to eight. There's also live coverage on BBC radio Scotland 810 | :20:53. | :20:56.
Now, a look at what else is happening across Scottish sport. | :20:57. | :21:01.
Team GB Olympic bronze medal winner Daniel Purvis is one of ten gymnasts | :21:02. | :21:06.
named in the Scotland team for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth games. The | :21:07. | :21:09.
Liverpool based Scot fancies another team medal this year. | :21:10. | :21:16.
As long as we can stay and hit as many routines cleanly as we can, it | :21:17. | :21:22.
is looking good. Veteran judoka Euan Burton is one of | :21:23. | :21:23.
fourteen athletes in the Scotland Judo team also announced today..the | :21:24. | :21:27.
Commonwealth games a first for the It is an opportunity to compete in | :21:28. | :21:37.
Scotland, which I have never done before. I have been at the top of | :21:38. | :21:41.
the British team for over a decade but never actually represented | :21:42. | :21:42.
Scotland. Peter Kirkbride won a silver in | :21:43. | :21:43.
Dehli four years ago. The Ayrshire at Glasgow 2014 and he wants gold | :21:44. | :21:46.
this time. I only missed out by one kilo, so | :21:47. | :21:58.
that is the equivalent of lifting a bag of sugar. So I want to go one | :21:59. | :22:00.
better and not miss out this time. The man who scored the goal to | :22:01. | :22:02.
ensure a second place Premiership finish for Motherwell has agreed a | :22:03. | :22:05.
new deal. Craig Reid signing up for Aberdeen's manager Derek McInnes has | :22:06. | :22:08.
been busy he's signed defender Ash Taylor from Tranmere and goalkeeper | :22:09. | :22:13.
Scott Brown from Cheltenham. Read all about that - and more, | :22:14. | :22:17.
including the SRU's multi million Lots of football action tonight. We | :22:18. | :22:32.
have that international and also Scotland against the Netherlands, | :22:33. | :22:33.
Under-21s. Fred Farrell was a self taught | :22:34. | :22:39.
painter, who became Glasgow's official First World War artist, yet | :22:40. | :22:42.
few know much about him. His drawings and paintings are now on | :22:43. | :22:45.
display at the People's Palace, as part of the city's centenary | :22:46. | :22:48.
commemoration. The flickering images almost seem | :22:49. | :23:04.
familiar. Resolutely upbeat, marching to glory for King and | :23:05. | :23:10.
country, expecting to be home by Christmas. But now a new exhibition | :23:11. | :23:15.
tells the soldiers' story first-hand. These pictures were | :23:16. | :23:18.
captured by Fred Farrell who had served as an engineer and then back | :23:19. | :23:23.
to the trenches of the Western front to record the Highland Light | :23:24. | :23:27.
Infantry in the 51st Highland division in action. | :23:28. | :23:30.
This is a particularly startling image showing a soldier caught up in | :23:31. | :23:35.
barbed wire. A disturbing image and an unusual one. Official war artists | :23:36. | :23:41.
were not allowed to depict dead bodies. They would not have gotten | :23:42. | :23:45.
through censorship so this was probably completed at the end of the | :23:46. | :23:49.
war. The Corporation of Glasgow wanted | :23:50. | :23:53.
him to document the home front, as women called the factories to do the | :23:54. | :23:59.
jobs of the men who had gone to war. Glasgow relied heavily on women in | :24:00. | :24:05.
the workforce to produce munitions. Fred Farrell has recorded this in | :24:06. | :24:10.
incredible detail. You get a sense from the drawings that, of the scale | :24:11. | :24:19.
of the work and the scope of the work of the women. | :24:20. | :24:26.
The pictures tell a powerful story. But Fred Farrell himself remains a | :24:27. | :24:30.
mystery. Curators are hoping that the fact that the show is on could | :24:31. | :24:34.
prompt others to come forward with stories, photographs, diaries, had | :24:35. | :24:39.
even more original artworks. The exhibition runs until November. | :24:40. | :24:45.
Time for your midweek weather forecast - Judith, it seems to be | :24:46. | :24:49.
It was warming up. And that they now continue. That rain is heading every | :24:50. | :25:09.
westwards. There are two is on the radar. Elsewhere largely dry and | :25:10. | :25:19.
cloudy. Some late sunshine for the Northern Isles where it has been a | :25:20. | :25:24.
beautiful day. Overnight, the rain shifts towards the West Coast and | :25:25. | :25:28.
tends to fizzle and fade away, leaving a rather cloudy night. Not | :25:29. | :25:36.
too cold. Around eight Celsius. First gets off to a cloudy start for | :25:37. | :25:42.
pretty much all of the country except Shetland. Plenty sunshine | :25:43. | :25:46.
there. There will be some showers as we head into the afternoon but the | :25:47. | :25:50.
drier weather in the North will filter its way towards the South as | :25:51. | :25:54.
we head through the day. A bit cloudy in the south-west. Further | :25:55. | :26:01.
north, more in the way of sunshine. A beautiful day for Orkney and | :26:02. | :26:08.
Shetland. Plenty of sunshine through Murray and Aberdeenshire. Still | :26:09. | :26:17.
quite chilly on the east cost with the breeze coming in off the North | :26:18. | :26:22.
Sea. The rest of the afternoon, into the evening, some late sunshine into | :26:23. | :26:28.
the given. Some light showers around. The good news as we head | :26:29. | :26:32.
into Friday and Saturday as high pressure. That means settled | :26:33. | :26:38.
conditions. We do have a front coming early on Sunday but Friday | :26:39. | :26:42.
and Saturday are not looking too bad at all. By that I mean dry, bright | :26:43. | :26:47.
and sunny for most. Temperatures around 16 or 17 degrees. Dry and | :26:48. | :26:55.
braked to start the weekend. Temperatures could reach 19 degrees. | :26:56. | :26:56.
Sunday will see more cloud. Now, a reminder of tonight's main | :26:57. | :27:02.
news. The Liberal Democrats are facing | :27:03. | :27:04.
further controversy tonight. Lord UK ministers said people would | :27:05. | :27:18.
benefit from staying in the UK by ?1400 per year. The Lib Dems are | :27:19. | :27:26.
facing further controversy. Lord Oakeshott has quit the party seeing | :27:27. | :27:29.
it is heading for disaster under Nick Clegg. Lord Oakeshott had been | :27:30. | :27:33.
facing disciplinary action. That's Reporting Scotland. I am back just | :27:34. | :27:37.
after the Ten O'Clock News. Goodbye. | :27:38. | :27:43. |
