Tonight, on Reporting Scotland: Calls for the Orange Order to cancel | :00:00. | :00:09.
a planned anti-independence march in Edinburgh. | :00:10. | :00:11.
A 12-year-old girl was injured when a fight broke out during | :00:12. | :00:13.
People heading to T in the Park are warned against taking | :00:14. | :00:19.
A Viking longship docks in Lerwick harbour for repairs | :00:20. | :00:23.
after her mast is snapped in strong winds and heavy seas. | :00:24. | :00:26.
Bringing the baton to Barra: We're with the Commonwealth relay | :00:27. | :00:30.
as it makes a flying visit to the Hebrides. | :00:31. | :00:33.
And fashion forward or a tartan throwback? | :00:34. | :00:37.
We'll assess those Commonwealth Games outfits. | :00:38. | :00:56.
A leading member of the anti-independence campaign | :00:57. | :00:58.
Better Together says an Orange Order march called "British Together" | :00:59. | :01:00.
Labour MP Jim Murphy's comments come after a 12-year-old girl was | :01:01. | :01:05.
injured in a fight during an Orange parade in Glasgow at the weekend. | :01:06. | :01:08.
The order's "British Together" event is set to take place in Edinburgh | :01:09. | :01:11.
just five days before Scotland votes in the independence referendum. | :01:12. | :01:14.
This girl was injured as she watched Saturday's parade on Glasgow Green. | :01:15. | :01:30.
The 12-year-old was hit by a bottle. She was treated for a head injury | :01:31. | :01:36.
and later released. The first Saturday of July sees thousands of | :01:37. | :01:39.
members take part in the county grand Orange Order parade in | :01:40. | :01:45.
Glasgow. This year, 4500 people participated, 4000 watched, and they | :01:46. | :01:50.
were 18 arrests. The grand Orange Lodge of Scotland has signed up to | :01:51. | :01:53.
campaign for a no vote in the independence campaign, but it is | :01:54. | :01:59.
not, and says it never has been part of Better Together. They plan to | :02:00. | :02:02.
hold a British Together rally in Edinburgh in September, but the | :02:03. | :02:05.
Better Together campaign say they don't want anything to do with the | :02:06. | :02:09.
Orange Order. I want nothing to do with them, Better Together wants | :02:10. | :02:13.
nothing to do with them, and in the referendum, I think we want people | :02:14. | :02:16.
to have passionate and peaceful debate and disagreement. That's what | :02:17. | :02:22.
Scots often do, and the elements that have attached themselves onto | :02:23. | :02:24.
the edge of an Orange Order demonstration at the weekend before | :02:25. | :02:29.
the big referendum, I think they are pretty unsavoury. Members of the | :02:30. | :02:32.
Orange Order say they are deeply shocked about what happened to the | :02:33. | :02:35.
girl at the weekend, but they are confident that the event in | :02:36. | :02:40.
September will go well. The Orange Order has got very strong Unionist | :02:41. | :02:43.
connections. It is No surprise that they take to the streets. That is | :02:44. | :02:48.
what we do, public demonstration, and of course, demonstration is a | :02:49. | :02:51.
perfectly legal and democratic way of expressing your views. So there | :02:52. | :02:56.
is also nothing new about this particular rally. It has been two | :02:57. | :02:59.
years in the planning, so that is the reason we are holding it. Today, | :03:00. | :03:05.
Better Together and Yes Scotland were campaigning side-by-side. A | :03:06. | :03:09.
spokesperson for Yes Scotland said: A feature of this campaign has been | :03:10. | :03:13.
as peaceful, entirely constitutional and largely respectful nature, | :03:14. | :03:18.
something they are sure will continue. Police are appealing for | :03:19. | :03:22.
anyone who has any information about what happened to be 12-year-old girl | :03:23. | :03:25.
here at Glasgow Green and Saturday to come forward. They say No one has | :03:26. | :03:30.
been arrested in connection with this so far, and enquiries are | :03:31. | :03:42.
ongoing. I am joined now by our political editor. The Orange Order | :03:43. | :03:46.
has a long history of involvement in Scottish constitutional politics. | :03:47. | :03:51.
Yes, and in politics more generally. Their origins traced back to support | :03:52. | :03:55.
for the Protestant faith and the union within the wider | :03:56. | :03:57.
constitutional settlement that is the UK, and it is perhaps more to do | :03:58. | :04:01.
with the union of 1800 between Great Britain and Ireland, and as a | :04:02. | :04:06.
consequence, in Northern Ireland, the Orange Order has had and still | :04:07. | :04:10.
has political significance. In Scotland, their political | :04:11. | :04:13.
significance in terms of party links and so on is considerably less, but | :04:14. | :04:18.
they insist that they have a right, and they would probably say a duty, | :04:19. | :04:23.
to campaign on behalf of the 1707 union between England and Scotland | :04:24. | :04:27.
as well. There is renewed controversy over campaign pressure, | :04:28. | :04:30.
with both sides levelling allegations against each other. Yes, | :04:31. | :04:35.
there has been an exchange of letters between the First Minister | :04:36. | :04:39.
and Bertie Armstrong, who has the Scottish fishermen's federation, and | :04:40. | :04:43.
he does not like the tone of the letter he got from Mr Salmond. He | :04:44. | :04:48.
felt that Mr Armstrong has swallowed a Tory line, but he called that a | :04:49. | :04:52.
ridiculous interpretation. He says his comments are entirely fair and | :04:53. | :04:56.
reasonable. Secondly, Professor Patrick Dunleavy from the LSE, who | :04:57. | :05:01.
was talking about the start-up costs of independence, is reportedly | :05:02. | :05:04.
saying the way that was turned round amounts to a dodgy dossier. | :05:05. | :05:08.
Thirdly, Gavin Hewitt, former boss of the Scotch Whisky Association, | :05:09. | :05:13.
who suggests pressure was applied to him by the SNP to stay neutral. The | :05:14. | :05:18.
SNP resolutely denies that. The overall picture is, our politicians | :05:19. | :05:23.
allowed to press their views on business leaders? When it would go | :05:24. | :05:28.
to far would be if there was intimidation of any kind, aggressive | :05:29. | :05:32.
behaviour, or undue pressure, suggesting that there was a link | :05:33. | :05:38.
between the views of the business organisation and some dealings they | :05:39. | :05:41.
might be having with government with politics. On both sides, Yes | :05:42. | :05:44.
Scotland and Better Together are adamant there has been No such undue | :05:45. | :05:48.
pressure applied. Thank you very much. | :05:49. | :05:49.
A 43-year-old man has appeared in court charged with | :05:50. | :05:51.
the attempted murder of a police officer in Edinburgh city centre. | :05:52. | :05:54.
Steven Hendry was arrested following an incident on Friday in which | :05:55. | :05:57.
The alleged attack took place on Princes Street at the foot | :05:58. | :06:00.
Mr Hendry made no plea at Edinburgh Sheriff Court | :06:01. | :06:04.
You're watching Reporting Scotland from the BBC. | :06:05. | :06:09.
Still to come on tonight's programme: | :06:10. | :06:11.
Why prisoners at Dumfries Jail are being getting joined by coaches | :06:12. | :06:14.
And in sport, Europe's Ryder Cup captain has a message for Scottish | :06:15. | :06:28.
golfers in the run-up to the showdown with US golfers at | :06:29. | :06:30.
Gleneagles. And not the Tour de France: Find out what I have been up | :06:31. | :06:42.
to and why. The Commonwealth battle and headed | :06:43. | :06:45.
to the beach at Barrow this afternoon. Local people were ready | :06:46. | :06:50.
and waiting to take over the relay. This is the world-famous beach | :06:51. | :06:53.
runway on Barra. The only place in the northern hemisphere where the | :06:54. | :06:59.
tide dictate the schedule. The plane has just landed, and on-board, as | :07:00. | :07:03.
you can see, is the Queen's baton, and carrying it is a very special | :07:04. | :07:07.
but on Barra. Our younger viewers might know this young lady. Perhaps | :07:08. | :07:13.
you can tell us who you are? My name is cherry, but I play Katie Morag. | :07:14. | :07:21.
Explain who Katie Morag is? She lives on an island and tells you | :07:22. | :07:26.
about the island, and tells you about what she does. And it is an | :07:27. | :07:30.
island like this one that inspired the books. Yes. What was like | :07:31. | :07:35.
carrying the bat on today? It was exciting. It has been all over the | :07:36. | :07:42.
world, everywhere, so this is its first journey to the Hebrides. Have | :07:43. | :07:48.
you been told that that is a message from the Queen inside? Yeah. Did you | :07:49. | :07:54.
try and read it? Kind of! Thank you very much. Be careful with that now. | :07:55. | :07:58.
So the battle has just arrived on Barra. It will continue to the Outer | :07:59. | :08:02.
Hebrides and later this week, it will go as far as Orkney. | :08:03. | :08:04.
The organisers of T in the Park say anyone caught with | :08:05. | :08:07.
legal highs at the festival will have them confiscated. | :08:08. | :08:09.
It comes after so called 'herbal highs' were implicated | :08:10. | :08:11.
Our reporter Julie Peacock joins me now. | :08:12. | :08:18.
Julie, presumably because these are labelled as legal, it does not mean | :08:19. | :08:23.
they are safety macro is that why the organisers are taking this | :08:24. | :08:28.
step? That is exactly right. The organisers are saying they do not | :08:29. | :08:32.
want any of these substances to be on the grounds. They say it is | :08:33. | :08:36.
because they are extremely harmful substances that can be especially | :08:37. | :08:41.
dangerous and do a lot of harm they are mixed with alcohol. They say | :08:42. | :08:45.
that the term legal high or herbal high, as they are sometimes known, | :08:46. | :08:49.
is also very misleading, as some of these substances are not meant to be | :08:50. | :08:54.
fit for human consumption, and can kill. In 2012, there were 52 deaths | :08:55. | :09:00.
in Scotland which were related to legal highs. These are substances | :09:01. | :09:04.
which give a similar effect to ecstasy, but very often, they are | :09:05. | :09:08.
sold as Bath salts or plant food as a way of getting around the law. But | :09:09. | :09:14.
they are far from safe. In a recent UN study, doctors said they are | :09:15. | :09:17.
actually powerless to treat people when they fall ill from taking legal | :09:18. | :09:20.
highs because they simply don't know what they have taken. Isn't this a | :09:21. | :09:26.
bit of a change in stance? Didn't there used to be stalls selling this | :09:27. | :09:31.
stuff at T In The Park and other festivals? Yes, and T in the park | :09:32. | :09:35.
has banned the sale of these substances for two years now. But | :09:36. | :09:39.
before that, it was not uncommon to see stalls selling this kind of | :09:40. | :09:42.
thing, not just at sea in the park, but that many other festivals. What | :09:43. | :09:47.
is seen as a real increasing awareness of the danger these | :09:48. | :09:51.
substances can cause, the Scottish Government is looking at the best | :09:52. | :09:53.
way currently are trying to tackle it, with one new substance being | :09:54. | :09:57.
discovered in Europe almost every week, really, the law is finding it | :09:58. | :10:02.
difficult to catch up with these legal highs quickly enough. Many | :10:03. | :10:12.
thanks. A date has been set for the Prime | :10:13. | :10:16.
Minister's former aide Andy Coulson to face criminal proceedings in | :10:17. | :10:20.
Scotland. This could be next month. The announcement follows" Asian of | :10:21. | :10:24.
the phone hacking trial in London, in which the ex-News of the World | :10:25. | :10:25.
editor was convicted. Now, a look at other stories | :10:26. | :10:27.
from the across the country: Firefighters have welcomed an eight | :10:28. | :10:29.
and a half year sentence handed down to a man who deliberately started | :10:30. | :10:32.
a blaze at a tenement in Dundee. Brian Martin was sentenced | :10:33. | :10:35.
at the High Court in Edinburgh after he was found guilty of wilfully | :10:36. | :10:38.
starting the fire in April 2012. Lawyers acting for victims | :10:39. | :10:41.
of a fatal outbreak of Legionnaires? disease in | :10:42. | :10:44.
Edinburgh are going to court in a bid to secure documents they believe | :10:45. | :10:47.
will help identify the source. Four people died during the | :10:48. | :10:51.
outbreak that began in May 2012. An investigation by the Health | :10:52. | :10:55.
and Safety Executive is ongoing but the families' lawyers will ask | :10:56. | :10:58.
the Court of Session to release information that could determine | :10:59. | :11:02.
whether they pursue a civil action. Police have confirmed that | :11:03. | :11:06.
a body recovered from Loch Tay is 29-year-old Darren Gilpin from | :11:07. | :11:11.
Edinburgh was canoeing with a friend in the Killin area when their boat | :11:12. | :11:17.
overturned on Saturday afternoon. Mr Gilpin's companion made it | :11:18. | :11:21.
ashore and raised the alarm. More than 100 residents who were | :11:22. | :11:24.
evacuated from a high rise block of flats in Motherwell last Thursday | :11:25. | :11:29.
have returned to their homes. North Lanarkshire Council provided | :11:30. | :11:32.
emergency accommodation for them after Scottish Power electricians | :11:33. | :11:36.
disturbed asbestos at Anderson Tower Specialist contractors worked | :11:37. | :11:40.
through the weekend to fix The Glasgow Science Centre tower, | :11:41. | :11:45.
which has been closed for four years, | :11:46. | :11:49.
is to reopen a week on Saturday. The 127-metre high rotating tower | :11:50. | :11:52.
which has been plagued with problems since it opened in 2001 has | :11:53. | :11:57.
undergone a ?1.8 million revamp. A damaged replica Viking longship is | :11:58. | :12:06.
spending another night in Lerwick harbour before setting off | :12:07. | :12:10.
for Liverpool tomorrow. It limped into Shetland at | :12:11. | :12:13.
the weekend after her mast snapped John Johnston has been to meet | :12:14. | :12:17.
the latter-day Vikings on board. And sees, this group takes shelter | :12:18. | :12:33.
in Lerwick harbour. They set off on their adventure across the North Sea | :12:34. | :12:36.
from Norway on Wednesday. We had some wind in some waves, and quite a | :12:37. | :12:41.
few people were seasick. But it was good tailing. We made quite good | :12:42. | :12:46.
speed, and it was fun. The Viking longship is 114 feet long. It has a | :12:47. | :12:52.
huge sale made a pure red silk, and when that is raised, it can reach | :12:53. | :12:58.
speeds of 40 mph. The international crew of 30 are tracing the steps of | :12:59. | :13:02.
the ancient warrior Harold, the first King of Norway, back in the | :13:03. | :13:07.
ninth century. He often raided Scotland. We are attempting to | :13:08. | :13:12.
retrace the steps of the Vikings and test the characteristics of this | :13:13. | :13:16.
kind of ship under sail. Days into their journey, the boat was suddenly | :13:17. | :13:20.
hit by a big wave on Friday, causing the mast to snap. The big waves | :13:21. | :13:27.
became a little too much of our mast, so it broke, and it fell | :13:28. | :13:36.
overboard. Although the replica longship is built along traditional | :13:37. | :13:40.
lines, it does have two engines. Just as well. They are now planning | :13:41. | :13:44.
to wait until they reach Liverpool in two weeks before getting a new | :13:45. | :13:45.
mast. It's thought to be | :13:46. | :13:48.
a unique collaboration between a Scottish prison | :13:49. | :13:50.
and a professional football club. Coaches from Annan Athletic FC are | :13:51. | :13:52.
working with prisoners at Dumfries Jail to give them a | :13:53. | :13:54.
qualification in sports leadership. It's teaching the men life skills | :13:55. | :13:57.
which, it's hoped, can help them Prisoners let off steam on the | :13:58. | :14:11.
soccer field at Dumfries Jail. This is football, trying to show them | :14:12. | :14:17.
another way. Helped each other, respect each other. The project is | :14:18. | :14:23.
called More Chances, More Choices. It is funded by the lottery and | :14:24. | :14:27.
fronted by Annan Athletic. The key thing is to insure these guys get a | :14:28. | :14:31.
bit of their confidence back, and that they can use different types of | :14:32. | :14:35.
communication. It just shows that there is actually potential there, | :14:36. | :14:38.
there is good abilities, and all the guys have good attributes. It is | :14:39. | :14:43.
just something to help bring that to the poor. Today, it is this man's | :14:44. | :14:49.
turn to lead. Gym by his side coaches and encourages. It is the | :14:50. | :14:54.
first time some of these men have been aware of time and money being | :14:55. | :14:58.
focused on them as individuals, being treated as equals. The boys of | :14:59. | :15:01.
never had anything like this project. This is the first time I've | :15:02. | :15:08.
ever seen such programmes like this been on. Jim has been fantastic | :15:09. | :15:13.
since he came in with us. It is a big encouragement for us. We're | :15:14. | :15:16.
getting the encouragement to show that we are not all bad people, and | :15:17. | :15:19.
that we are not reoffending, we can do other things. You must give it to | :15:20. | :15:26.
somebody else! Football leadership skills course is only one of several | :15:27. | :15:32.
collaborations with outside organisations going on inside | :15:33. | :15:35.
Dumfries prison. We need to find out how to engage with each and every | :15:36. | :15:38.
one of these guys, and we will do anything to get to that level, | :15:39. | :15:42.
whether it is cookery skills, learning to be a good neighbour, or | :15:43. | :15:46.
arts projects, everyone has something they will be interested | :15:47. | :15:50.
in, and we will use that as a vehicle for change. The prisoners | :15:51. | :15:53.
here are learning all about teamwork, self-discipline, | :15:54. | :15:56.
decision-making, how to make better choices, said that the prisoners | :15:57. | :15:58.
here are learning all about teamwork, self-discipline, | :15:59. | :16:00.
decision-making, how to make better choices, Sepp Blatter goals in life. | :16:01. | :16:02.
-- Sepp Blatter goals in life. Scottish boxer Joe Ham has the next | :16:03. | :16:06.
couple of years all planned out. He wants to win Gold in | :16:07. | :16:09.
his home Commonwealth Games, turn professional and become the next big | :16:10. | :16:12.
boxing name to come out of Scotland. The 23-year-old is a Glasgow boy, | :16:13. | :16:15.
growing up and still living And as our Games reporter Jane Lewis | :16:16. | :16:17.
found out, I love the Gorbals. I love Glasgow. | :16:18. | :16:30.
Everybody always says, I want to move out, but getting a gold medal | :16:31. | :16:37.
is the only thing I am thinking about and training board. Whatever | :16:38. | :16:41.
happens, a metal is something for your future. So this is the Gorbals, | :16:42. | :16:48.
Joe. A place you know very well. When I first grew up here, I was | :16:49. | :16:52.
just a little fat guy. If you ask anybody in the Gorbals my name, they | :16:53. | :16:55.
would just prefer to me as a wee chubby guy. That was me. And when | :16:56. | :17:00.
you were running about, where their kids everywhere? Yes, it has died | :17:01. | :17:07.
down a bit now. It has got so much nicer. And primary school was just | :17:08. | :17:13.
down the? Yes. What were you like to teach? I wasn't so bad behaviour | :17:14. | :17:20.
wise. I just thought I knew best! Over the last few years, the Gorbals | :17:21. | :17:23.
area has gone through a massive trans-formation. | :17:24. | :17:30.
The flats Jo grew up in were finally demolished last summer. This is | :17:31. | :17:41.
where the old flat used to be, Jo. Now just an empty space of land. | :17:42. | :17:45.
What do you remember this? This used to be too high rise flats, 23 | :17:46. | :17:51.
stories high. One flat was here, the one I lived in, number 11. That's | :17:52. | :17:56.
where I grew up till I was 14. It's quite appropriate we were standing | :17:57. | :17:59.
here where you used to live. Talk me through your dreams and hopes up to | :18:00. | :18:02.
the Commonwealth Games and after. I'm just looking forward to getting | :18:03. | :18:05.
into the ring, getting the first year out of the way, going for six | :18:06. | :18:09.
bytes in a few days and getting a gold medal. That is the only thing | :18:10. | :18:12.
I'm thinking about and training for, a gold medal. | :18:13. | :18:17.
Now over to David Currie for the day's sports news. | :18:18. | :18:19.
European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley says Paul Lawrie | :18:20. | :18:21.
and his fellow Scots still have a chance to play themselves into his | :18:22. | :18:24.
The two Pauls were in exhibition mode in Aberdeen today ahead of this | :18:25. | :18:28.
week's Scottish Open, but of course, talk of the Ryder Cup was never far | :18:29. | :18:32.
Behold, a good old-fashioned golfing courtship, as Paul Lawrie welcomes | :18:33. | :18:47.
Paul McGinley on a date with one thing on his mind. I'm not here to | :18:48. | :18:53.
relax! I'm here to win, sure as Paul is. But it will be good fun, and we | :18:54. | :18:57.
have known each other a long time. All lorry is well down the Ryder Cup | :18:58. | :19:02.
rankings, but McGinley says he wants to be wooed. With his pedigree, you | :19:03. | :19:06.
would love to see him back in the ring again. Being Scottish as well, | :19:07. | :19:08.
and with the Ryder Cup being in Scotland, he may bloom late. We will | :19:09. | :19:15.
have to see. Today's nine hole exhibition may not be the start of | :19:16. | :19:19.
that run, but Paul Lawrie was keen to impress. McGinley will be keeping | :19:20. | :19:23.
a close eye on this week's Scottish Open, and he is once again laying | :19:24. | :19:26.
down the challenge for the home players. Now and the next kind of | :19:27. | :19:31.
five or six weeks is really going to be the time I am honing in on what | :19:32. | :19:36.
that for me is, who is playing well, and he was making a late run. In the | :19:37. | :19:40.
end, Laurie's day ended a little flat, as McGinley secured a three | :19:41. | :19:45.
stroke victory. Paul McGinley is the winner here. The question is this: | :19:46. | :19:50.
Has the host done enough to impress his guest? He's got more to do, lots | :19:51. | :19:59.
more left to do. Time, however, is running out. For all the Scots, they | :20:00. | :20:04.
may culminate in Aberdeen this week. One of football's all-time greats | :20:05. | :20:09.
Alfredo Di Stefano has died aged 88. The Argentine-born player has | :20:10. | :20:11.
a special place in Scottish football history for | :20:12. | :20:14.
the part he played in Real Madrid's European Cup win over Eintracht | :20:15. | :20:16.
Frankfurt at Hampden in 1960. Now, a look at what else is | :20:17. | :20:21.
happening across Scottish sport. Scotland international striker David | :20:22. | :20:34.
Goode Willie poses in the colours of his new club Aberdeen. He has signed | :20:35. | :20:38.
a one-year deal, and let the talking to his new manager. I think he | :20:39. | :20:42.
brings a level of ability that will help us score more goals. I think | :20:43. | :20:46.
all season, we fell short on that. Andy Murray's down to 10th in the | :20:47. | :20:52.
tennis world rankings, his lowest position for six years. It follows | :20:53. | :20:55.
his exit in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. | :20:56. | :20:58.
Diamond league athletics comes to Glasgow this weekend as a Scottish | :20:59. | :21:05.
record for the 100 metres could be broken in the new Hampden track. The | :21:06. | :21:08.
fastest time run in Scotland is 1007, so I am pretty sure it is an | :21:09. | :21:13.
exciting prospect that that could get diminished as well. Read all | :21:14. | :21:17.
about David Goode Willie and much more on the BBC sport Scotland | :21:18. | :21:22.
website. And I have some more for you now, | :21:23. | :21:25.
because injury will force one of the cycling world's biggest names to | :21:26. | :21:30.
miss the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Mark Cavendish crashed in | :21:31. | :21:32.
the early stages of the Tour de France at the weekend. The shoulder | :21:33. | :21:36.
damage he sustained means he will miss the rest of the tour and | :21:37. | :21:41.
Glasgow 2014. Staying with cycling, what do I have in common with | :21:42. | :21:45.
Scotland's elite endurance cyclists? Not much, but I did | :21:46. | :21:48.
volunteer to undertake some of the testing they have been doing ahead | :21:49. | :21:52.
of the Glasgow 2014 games. If you have not had your dinner, you may | :21:53. | :21:54.
want to look away. So, the purpose of the test today is | :21:55. | :22:09.
to determine your VO two Macs, which is the maximum amount of oxygen that | :22:10. | :22:15.
you can take from the air and using your muscles to provide energy for | :22:16. | :22:24.
exercise. So, this should feel nice and secure. Three, two, one. | :22:25. | :22:37.
Right, I would hold that on if I were you, because you are breathing | :22:38. | :22:48.
quite nicely now. Good. Let's stop you there. That was fantastic. | :22:49. | :22:57.
Excellent. Excellent. You are roughly averaging at 42 millilitres | :22:58. | :23:05.
per kilogram per minute. Wow. That the number, that's your result. For | :23:06. | :23:08.
someone who has not been on their bike for five years, I think you can | :23:09. | :23:12.
take that. A cyclist coming in here representing Scotland would be in | :23:13. | :23:18.
the 70s. Oh, my word. So you still have a long way to go to get that | :23:19. | :23:29.
Scotland best! You are always saying to me, on your | :23:30. | :23:36.
bike! Thank you, David. Talking about pets, what do you make of | :23:37. | :23:37.
these? It's Team Scotland's Commonwealth | :23:38. | :23:40.
Games uniform of course. A turquoise, fuschia | :23:41. | :23:41.
and caramel tartan combined with Craig Anderson has been | :23:42. | :23:43.
assessing reactions. It's a design certain to stir the | :23:44. | :23:52.
blood, or maybe send your head spinning. The official Team Scotland | :23:53. | :23:58.
uniform has definite references from the past, although from a time some | :23:59. | :24:03.
would maybe possibly forget. I think it is truly shocking, absolutely | :24:04. | :24:07.
shocking. It has been described as a cross between Brigadoon and the new | :24:08. | :24:11.
seekers. I also think it looks a bit like a hospital gown or possibly | :24:12. | :24:14.
something someone would have won in Littlewoods in the 1980s or 1970s. | :24:15. | :24:20.
It is absolutely horrible. Shocking would be a word I would use. | :24:21. | :24:24.
Interesting. Interesting colour styles, and it's one of those things | :24:25. | :24:30.
where I thought, I thought I had loud tartan. But not everyone is | :24:31. | :24:35.
turned up by the commendation of the future, turquoise and caramel | :24:36. | :24:38.
tartan, twinned with light blue shirt and dresses. It's brilliant, | :24:39. | :24:43.
vibrant, colourful, contemporary, and it is fun. It is everything the | :24:44. | :24:47.
Commonwealth Games sets out to be, No sure everyone can join in the | :24:48. | :24:51.
celebrations. Social media has been awash with the rugged three | :24:52. | :24:56.
comments, although the key commentators, the team members, | :24:57. | :24:59.
reckon it is a winner. A home games in Scotland, in | :25:00. | :25:05.
Glasgow, and Team Scotland will be featuring 300 athletes plus | :25:06. | :25:07.
management wearing this. It will make a statement, and it will have | :25:08. | :25:11.
that impact from the start of the game all the way through. Scotland | :25:12. | :25:14.
is not alone. The Australian swimwear kit has been savaged for | :25:15. | :25:18.
directing the Observer's eye to the wearer's groin area. There was never | :25:19. | :25:23.
any of that in the White Heather Club. | :25:24. | :25:31.
And now, let's find out what is happening on Scotland 2014. | :25:32. | :25:38.
We are taking you on a trip to Texas, where they have abolished | :25:39. | :25:41.
local income tax. What has that got to do with us, you ask you macro | :25:42. | :25:45.
well, they are an economy largely dependent on oil and looking for | :25:46. | :25:48.
other ways to make money. They cannot control their own interest | :25:49. | :25:52.
rates, but they can control taxes. So what are the lessons for an | :25:53. | :25:56.
independent Scotland? And the rest of the country is totally about it, | :25:57. | :26:00.
so we will as well. Yes, the Commonwealth Games uniforms. And | :26:01. | :26:04.
now, the weather. Good evening. There is an east/ west | :26:05. | :26:10.
split this week, with eastern areas getting a lot of dry weather, | :26:11. | :26:16.
whereas the East sees a lot of rain later in the week. A few showers | :26:17. | :26:19.
around at the moment, but they die away very quickly. Showers to end | :26:20. | :26:24.
the day, and it looks like it could be dry overnight, and clear spells | :26:25. | :26:28.
across the mainland. A little rain in the Western Isles during the | :26:29. | :26:32.
overnight period. Some fairly extensive mist and low cloud feeds | :26:33. | :26:35.
into the Northern Isles, with the odd missed patch elsewhere. Towns | :26:36. | :26:40.
and cities holed up at around 10 Celsius, possibly as low as six in | :26:41. | :26:45.
some rural parts, so it can be quite cold in places. Tomorrow morning | :26:46. | :26:48.
start up largely dry and bright, but showers towards the south-east will | :26:49. | :26:51.
start to get going during the morning, and the air spreads in | :26:52. | :26:55.
throughout eastern Scotland. There is a yellow met up is warning out | :26:56. | :27:00.
for these heavy showers. The main focus is Aberdeenshire, and parts of | :27:01. | :27:03.
the Borders, and they will tend to set the high ground feature. Good | :27:04. | :27:09.
spells coming through in the West. South-west Scotland in the | :27:10. | :27:12.
afternoon, quite a lot of, and also warm. One or two showers around the | :27:13. | :27:19.
Glasgow area, but mostly staying dry. Showers the North Argyll. | :27:20. | :27:23.
Becoming drier towards the Outer Hebrides, one or two showers | :27:24. | :27:25.
fringing the north coast, and even though it is fairly cloudy, some | :27:26. | :27:30.
brightness pushing through at times. The main focus of any heavier | :27:31. | :27:34.
showers will tend to be the Grampian area, in towards parts of Perthshire | :27:35. | :27:38.
and also part of the western borders, or inland borders, I should | :27:39. | :27:44.
say. Through the rest of the afternoon, some showers continue in | :27:45. | :27:48.
the east, gradually dying away, and mostly dry during the overnight | :27:49. | :27:52.
period. Mist coming in across the far north. Here is what happens at | :27:53. | :27:55.
the end of the week. High pressure in the West, a lot of dry, settled | :27:56. | :28:00.
weather. This low tries to push into the East, but eventually, it starts | :28:01. | :28:08.
to dry later. And that is reporting Scotland. From | :28:09. | :28:11.
everybody here, enjoy your evening. Goodbye. | :28:12. | :28:15. |
