The Commonwealth Games has just signed off with a closing ceremony

which featured star names, but also celebrated the people of Glasgow.

Who else would you call in to get the party started? Isn't it great to

be here tonight? The athlete like giving everything to make these game

is a surprise. Then the Commonwealth flag is lowered. Seven to one

athlete from the competing nations. -- 71 athlete. I am honoured to

receive this flag. Then the official handover, Australian speaking of the

pattern. A woman who needs no introduction. The diva of pop has a

seven song set. Kylie is on stage and the crowd are on their feet. It

really is party time. With a dash of colour from a typical Glasgow night

out. The known paper echoes. -- it is time to bring the curtain

down on this. On the last day of the competition,

Team Scotland took their medal tally to a record-breaking 53,

as Andy Burke reports. After a thrilling victory in the

badminton semifinals, Kirsty Gilmour had the chance to win Scotland's

first ever Commonwealth singles title. She could not quite find her

best form and the Canadian prevailed in 38 minutes. In squash, the host

team were looking to add one more medal to Scotland's tally, but

England proved too strong. Cycling's Road race was hit by a

dreadful weather conditions. The Glasgow public were out in force to

offer plenty of encouragement, especially to Scotland's David

Miller. He managed to finish in 11th.

Simply a brilliant atmosphere tonight, a party atmosphere as well.

When you look at what Scotland achieved, these games have been

called the greatest ever Commonwealth games. 53 medals for

Scotland, 19 of them gold. A stunning success rate. Away from the

action, Glaswegians embraced these games, the city more than coping

with the influx of people thrust onto the city and the demand that

come with that. The athletes have been letting their hair down and

going into party mode. It was a chance to say goodbye to Glasgow

2014. Gone, but certainly not forgotten, not for a very long time.

head into Monday, a fairly dull and damp start. Some light rain. Away

from the West, a bright start. It will be fairly breezy in the

Highlands. As we go through the morning and into the afternoon, it

is a slowly improving picture. Some good spells of brightness and
