Tonight, on Reporting Scotland - Alastair Carmichael will remain

:00:00.:00:08.

in Parliament after surviving a legal challenge against his

:00:09.:00:11.

But views about the outcome in his Northern Isles constituency

:00:12.:00:19.

I still think what he did was wrong, and I still feel he should have

:00:20.:00:29.

stepped down. I think to leave him be now. Better the devil you know.

:00:30.:00:32.

Donald Trump finds himself on the receiving end of that famous

:00:33.:00:41.

catchphrase, losing an honorary degree and a place on a group

:00:42.:00:43.

promoting Scottish business in one afternoon following his

:00:44.:00:45.

As Celtic fly out to Istanbul for their final European match

:00:46.:00:51.

of the season, John Collins says it's one game the team could do

:00:52.:00:54.

And we'll explain why these giant pink bunnies are proving

:00:55.:01:01.

the antidote to the Granite City gloaming.

:01:02.:01:17.

The Liberal Democrat MP for Orkney and Shetland,

:01:18.:01:22.

Alistair Carmichael, has survived a legal challenge

:01:23.:01:24.

He lied about the leaking of a memo during the general election

:01:25.:01:33.

campaign, and four of his constituents had argued that meant

:01:34.:01:35.

But two judges have ruled his behaviour was not in breach

:01:36.:01:41.

Here's our Political Editor Brian Taylor.

:01:42.:01:49.

As the member of Parliament... Elected in May, Alistair Carmichael

:01:50.:01:57.

now continues as MP for Orkney and Shetland. With customary pomp, the

:01:58.:02:01.

news was relate to the House of Commons by Speaker John Bercow. The

:02:02.:02:05.

judges have determined that the petition be dismissed. Here's where

:02:06.:02:11.

we started, a report in the Telegraph in April, a month out from

:02:12.:02:16.

the UK general election. Alistair Carmichael eventually admitted

:02:17.:02:19.

leaking an internal memo suggesting Nicola Sturgeon had indicated at a

:02:20.:02:22.

meeting with the French ambassador she wanted to see David Cameron

:02:23.:02:27.

returned as Prime Minister. But first Alistair Carmichael denied all

:02:28.:02:32.

knowledge in a Channel 4 interview. This is already on public record,

:02:33.:02:35.

the first time I knew this was when I received a phone call on Friday

:02:36.:02:38.

afternoon from a journalist making me aware of it. Nicola Sturgeon

:02:39.:02:43.

strenuously denied the claims and diplomats stressed they were wrong.

:02:44.:02:48.

Petitioners from Mr Carmichael's constituency said his election was

:02:49.:02:52.

based on a lie and took the case to an election court who heard the case

:02:53.:02:57.

from both sides. Today the judges provided a verdict on three points.

:02:58.:03:02.

They said firstly missed, core's comments constituted a false

:03:03.:03:06.

statement of fact, in other words a lie. Secondly, they noted the

:03:07.:03:10.

intention of his conduct was to further his own electoral interests.

:03:11.:03:14.

They said election law did not apply to lies in general. It applies only

:03:15.:03:21.

to lies in relation to the personal character or conduct of a candidate.

:03:22.:03:26.

On the third and final test, the judges were not satisfied beyond

:03:27.:03:29.

reasonable doubt. The case was dismissed. It has been a very

:03:30.:03:34.

difficult, stressful and expensive few months for me and the rest of my

:03:35.:03:39.

family. I have been cleared today of the breach of representation of the

:03:40.:03:43.

people act which was put against me by nationalists. They brought what

:03:44.:03:46.

has been a highly politically motivated case. What a lot of

:03:47.:03:52.

nonsense. The only politically inspired acts in all of this, as

:03:53.:03:56.

admitted by Mr Carmichael himself, was leaking a memo he knew to be

:03:57.:04:01.

false in order to somehow try to attack the Scottish National party.

:04:02.:04:08.

In Kirkwall this afternoon, the petitioners voiced disappointment

:04:09.:04:11.

but claimed a moral victory. No matter what political party a person

:04:12.:04:17.

belongs to, they should be honest. They are representing us. Our

:04:18.:04:20.

democracy is a very fragile thing. If we allow people to represent us

:04:21.:04:29.

in a dishonest manner, then I think the democracy will fall. The full

:04:30.:04:35.

court ruling also considers the MP's dealings with the Cabinet Office

:04:36.:04:41.

enquiry. At this he says he was at best disingenuous and at worst

:04:42.:04:49.

evasive. This afternoon he was back at work in the Commons and says he

:04:50.:04:54.

will devote his efforts to serving his constituents.

:04:55.:04:56.

Our reporter Craig Anderson is in Kirkwall.

:04:57.:04:58.

Our reporter Craig Anderson is in Kirkwall for us.

:04:59.:05:01.

What are Mr Carmichael's constituents making of all this?

:05:02.:05:07.

You have to look at the political context here. The generations,

:05:08.:05:13.

Orkney and Shetland have been among the strongest heartlands for the

:05:14.:05:16.

Liberal Democrats and liberals in the whole of the UK. Alistair

:05:17.:05:21.

Carmichael, in the footsteps of people like Joe Grimond and Jim

:05:22.:05:27.

Wallace. He had a fairly comfortable majority until the election in May

:05:28.:05:31.

when it was slashed to just over 800 with the SNP snapping at his heels.

:05:32.:05:36.

He lost 20% of his vote, they put 27% on theirs. Some of the language

:05:37.:05:42.

since this action was launched against him has ranged from the

:05:43.:05:46.

fairly intemperate to the unbelievable vitriolic. In small

:05:47.:05:52.

communities like there are up and down the Northern Isles, I think

:05:53.:05:55.

some of these divisions will take time to heal. Because of that,

:05:56.:06:03.

there's little wonder that on the streets both here in Orkney and

:06:04.:06:08.

Shetland today, the differences were clear to see and hear.

:06:09.:06:10.

I still think what he did was wrong, and I still feel like he should have

:06:11.:06:17.

stepped down. He's a good politician, but he made a mistake. A

:06:18.:06:20.

lot have done a lot worse and got away with it. It's nonsense. The man

:06:21.:06:26.

is a proven liar, he admitted it. Now he has permission to carry on

:06:27.:06:30.

line until the next general election. He did some unwise stuff,

:06:31.:06:36.

but over the years he has been a good MP. Any grievance I have had,

:06:37.:06:40.

he's done what an MP should do. I trust him. You have been hearing

:06:41.:06:48.

from the people who brought the court case, will the legal fight

:06:49.:06:53.

continue? I don't think it will, actually. They say this is the end

:06:54.:06:59.

of the road legally for them. They are not going to seek a judicial

:07:00.:07:03.

review of this very unusual election court hearing. They are looking at

:07:04.:07:09.

the finances as well. It has cost them over ?200,000 so far, most of

:07:10.:07:13.

that raised through crowdfunding. They have most of the money, but if

:07:14.:07:19.

costs are awarded against them, and that hearing still has to be held,

:07:20.:07:23.

then they would have to pay for Alistair Carmichael's legal expenses

:07:24.:07:27.

as well. They say they will not be pursuing any more legal action, but

:07:28.:07:31.

that might not be the end of the whole affair. As they point out,

:07:32.:07:36.

some of the comments that the judges made will now be going, in the whole

:07:37.:07:46.

of this judgment, to the Parliamentary standards Commissioner

:07:47.:07:49.

down at Westminster. That Commissioner might have something to

:07:50.:07:52.

say about Alistair Carmichael's future as an MP.

:07:53.:07:56.

Well our correspondent David Porter is at Westminster.

:07:57.:08:01.

David, a sigh of relief no doubt, from Alistair Carmichael,

:08:02.:08:03.

but this isn't the end of the matter for him.

:08:04.:08:10.

Alistair Carmichael has spoken of his relief at the court findings,

:08:11.:08:18.

and has been key to be portrayed as a picture of business as usual. He

:08:19.:08:22.

was betrayed in the House of Commons taking part in debate this

:08:23.:08:26.

afternoon. The challenge is not over, now it's the turn of the

:08:27.:08:29.

Parliamentary Commissioner for standards. As far as she is

:08:30.:08:35.

concerned there is an ongoing enquiry against Alistair Carmichael.

:08:36.:08:38.

Katherine Hudson can come to three conclusions. She could decide there

:08:39.:08:42.

is no case to answer. Or there has been a technical breach in which

:08:43.:08:46.

case an apology would do. Or if she believes its serious enough, she

:08:47.:08:50.

could refer it to MPs and they can decide what, if any action, to take

:08:51.:08:55.

against Mr Carmichael. You talk to the commission, and they say the

:08:56.:08:59.

enquiry is ongoing. They will not give a commentary. When asked how

:09:00.:09:03.

long it will take, they say, it will take as long as it takes.

:09:04.:09:06.

And Shelly Joffre will have more reaction and analysis

:09:07.:09:08.

of the Carmichael judgement, on Scotland 2015 tonight,

:09:09.:09:10.

Donald Trump has been dropped as a Scottish business ambassador

:09:11.:09:21.

by the Scottish Government, and stripped of his honorary degree

:09:22.:09:24.

Mr Trump, a presidential candidate in the United States,

:09:25.:09:28.

has called for Muslims to be banned from entering the USA.

:09:29.:09:40.

Here's our political correspondent Andrew Kerr

:09:41.:09:41.

on the First Minister's action against him.

:09:42.:09:44.

Donald Champ made the comments after a multiple shooting in California.

:09:45.:09:53.

Are you a bigot? Not at all. Probably believes that anyone you've

:09:54.:10:01.

met. Donald Trump has been moved as a global Scott, since their business

:10:02.:10:04.

ambassador for the country. I think we've seen in terms of the reactions

:10:05.:10:08.

to the comments he has made this week, just how rightly offended

:10:09.:10:11.

people are. My judgment is that he's not the kind of person who is

:10:12.:10:17.

suitable to represent dockland in the way global Scots do. That's why

:10:18.:10:23.

I've taken this decision. He has extensive business links in

:10:24.:10:30.

Scotland, including a golf links in Aberdeenshire, and the Turnberry

:10:31.:10:33.

resort, as well as aviation in Prestwick airport. No word from him

:10:34.:10:38.

tonight, but the First Minister's opponents say he she should have

:10:39.:10:46.

taken action more quickly. Donald Trump has been saying these things

:10:47.:10:49.

for months now. For example, saying things about Mexicans coming to

:10:50.:10:52.

America, and I did not see the First Minister saying things then. He's

:10:53.:10:59.

upset Muslim leaders here as well. His comments are just as extreme as

:11:00.:11:03.

Isis. Isis are very much like, let's kill anyone who doesn't, with us,

:11:04.:11:10.

goes against us, and is not part of our ideology. Which is nothing to do

:11:11.:11:18.

with Islam. And in Westminster, a call from an SNP MP to have the

:11:19.:11:22.

presidential hopeful banned from entering the UK. He's certainly been

:11:23.:11:28.

a frequent visitor since 2006. Politicians from all parties like to

:11:29.:11:32.

court big business, but sometimes big business can come back and bite

:11:33.:11:36.

you. That's why the First Minister has taken firm action today.

:11:37.:11:41.

And in the last hour we've heard that Robert Gordon University has

:11:42.:11:44.

decided to revoke the honorary degree they awarded to Mr Trump

:11:45.:11:46.

Our reporter John McManus is there for us tonight.

:11:47.:11:49.

John, they've been under a lot of pressure, haven't they?

:11:50.:11:59.

Yes, this drama has played out over the last three days pretty quickly.

:12:00.:12:06.

He made his comments about Muslims on Monday. On Tuesday he was roundly

:12:07.:12:10.

condemned on both sides of the Atlantic, and a petition asking

:12:11.:12:14.

Robert Gordon University to revoke his degree was started. This time

:12:15.:12:18.

yesterday we were told the principle was still considering the issue, but

:12:19.:12:22.

in the last hour and a half they have confirmed they are terminating

:12:23.:12:25.

their relationship with Donald Trump. They say comments in as made

:12:26.:12:30.

during the course of the US presidential election campaign, are

:12:31.:12:32.

incompatible with the ethos and values of the University. It seems

:12:33.:12:41.

that his own brand, his public image is incompatible with the university,

:12:42.:12:48.

and they are not prepared to countenance that.

:12:49.:12:51.

Scottish Labour has accused transport minister Derek MacKay

:12:52.:12:53.

of misleading parliament over maintenance works

:12:54.:12:54.

Labour claim comments Derek MacKay made on BBC Radio Scotland

:12:55.:12:58.

The row centres around whether planned repairs

:12:59.:13:02.

to the bridge five years ago would have replaced the section

:13:03.:13:04.

of the crossing which is now damaged.

:13:05.:13:07.

Tonight, Mr MacKay clarified his stance that the current fault

:13:08.:13:10.

was not in need of repair five years ago.

:13:11.:13:13.

Meanwhile Holyrood's Infrastructure Committee is planning an enquiry.

:13:14.:13:20.

Up to ten councils could lose money for breaking a deal

:13:21.:13:22.

with the government on teacher numbers.

:13:23.:13:24.

The government gave councils cash so they would not

:13:25.:13:27.

But according to official statistics out today,

:13:28.:13:33.

ten of them are still employing fewer teachers than last year.

:13:34.:13:36.

Our education correspondent Jamie McIvor is here,

:13:37.:13:38.

The number of teachers has been falling for several years.

:13:39.:13:44.

And the Scottish Government wanted this to stop.

:13:45.:13:46.

But they don't employ teachers, councils do.

:13:47.:13:50.

So this year councils were told they would get ?51 million

:13:51.:13:53.

between them specifically to maintain teacher numbers.

:13:54.:13:57.

Despite this, in ten council areas, the number of teachers still fell

:13:58.:14:00.

and, in some cases, this could now lead to financial penalties.

:14:01.:14:08.

Trying to maintain teacher numbers is a tricky challenge. Even giving

:14:09.:14:16.

councils money to do this, is no miracle cure. While most managed,

:14:17.:14:21.

ten didn't. Of course I'm disappointed that a small number of

:14:22.:14:24.

local authorities have not met their commitments. But to be in constant

:14:25.:14:29.

dialogue with partners in local government, we will be in

:14:30.:14:32.

discussions about this, and Mr Swinney will stay more about this

:14:33.:14:36.

next week during the budget. Nationally the government has got

:14:37.:14:39.

its way. Teacher numbers across Scotland were practically the same

:14:40.:14:44.

as last year. But some councils reported significant drops. In North

:14:45.:14:50.

Lanarkshire, 58 fewer teachers. In Glasgow, 45. In relatively small

:14:51.:14:56.

Argyll Bute, 31. There are big concerns there. In certain areas

:14:57.:14:58.

there are issues that need to be addressed. Areas like Glasgow, which

:14:59.:15:03.

had a significant drop, there has to be further incident investigation

:15:04.:15:08.

into why that happened. Funding always splits opinion. The body that

:15:09.:15:12.

represents most councils calls the focus on teacher numbers crazy,

:15:13.:15:14.

simplistic and ill thought through. But councils did still sign up

:15:15.:15:17.

to the budget deal on teachers, even if some felt they had

:15:18.:15:20.

no real alternative. The government is likely to be

:15:21.:15:22.

sympathetic to councils that tried hard to maintain numbers,

:15:23.:15:25.

but narrowly failed. Should any lose out on cash, though,

:15:26.:15:27.

it could provoke a huge row. How do you teach people

:15:28.:15:34.

about energy, how much we all depend on it and how to keep

:15:35.:15:37.

supplies secure? A new exhibition at Glasgow's

:15:38.:15:39.

Science Centre aims to let people experience the power and importance

:15:40.:15:41.

of energy for themselves. Our Science Correspondent

:15:42.:15:45.

Ken MacDonald has been Who is going to keep the lights on?

:15:46.:15:57.

In all polity, this generation, this is where they are learning and the

:15:58.:16:03.

fun begins. You can explore all of the primary sources of energy such

:16:04.:16:08.

as the wind, solar power, hydro, tidal, they can generate electricity

:16:09.:16:15.

by dancing on a dance floor. Essentially, understanding all of

:16:16.:16:16.

the technology behind power generation. Powering the future

:16:17.:16:23.

opens tomorrow. This lucky bunch got a special preview. Their verdict? I

:16:24.:16:27.

think it's amazing they've managed to make all of this. I really like

:16:28.:16:32.

it and I have enjoyed it and I've learned lots of new things. I think

:16:33.:16:37.

it's really cool that they are able to make such good examples of things

:16:38.:16:43.

that would happen. I think it's amazing they've just completed this

:16:44.:16:48.

and it's absolutely amazing. It's designed to be more than amazing. To

:16:49.:16:54.

LA us and inspire young people to choose careers in the energy sector.

:16:55.:16:59.

The younger we engage young people who find these things interesting

:17:00.:17:04.

than the sooner we can develop innovative solution focused young

:17:05.:17:07.

people to join the energy industry including oil and gas. With so many

:17:08.:17:13.

energy sources, some of the highly controversial, resenting a balanced

:17:14.:17:16.

picture could have been compensated. We keep it simple. We take it back

:17:17.:17:20.

to the science on the physics and then we create a level playing field

:17:21.:17:27.

where different options are compared side-by-side. The young people got

:17:28.:17:31.

to test everything apart from one thing. Nuclear power is very much

:17:32.:17:39.

apolitical hot potato. Just imagine these mousetraps and these ping-pong

:17:40.:17:46.

balls representing uranium with neutrons energy being released. If

:17:47.:17:50.

only we had a spare neutron to drop into the mix. Yes, we have.

:17:51.:17:57.

Let's get the latest sport now with David.

:17:58.:18:00.

The Celtic manager Ronny Deila has told us he'll select a young side

:18:01.:18:03.

His assistant John Collins agrees the match against Fenerbhace is one

:18:04.:18:08.

Celtic could do without, given they can't qualify

:18:09.:18:13.

for the Europa League knockout stage.

:18:14.:18:16.

But, as Chris McLaughlin reports from Turkey,

:18:17.:18:18.

Deila's dilemma is that his side needs more experience in Europe.

:18:19.:18:28.

Good evening from the stadium here in Istanbul. Celtic trailing behind

:18:29.:18:36.

me as you can see. They arrived around two hours ago and left

:18:37.:18:40.

Glasgow airport early this morning. They are well aware this game

:18:41.:18:43.

tomorrow night is pretty much meaningless, in fact, so much so,

:18:44.:18:47.

the assistant manager John Collins said it's a game they could pretty

:18:48.:18:51.

do without, so does the manager agree? I think it's a good challenge

:18:52.:18:59.

for us. We have to do use the games in Europe to get the experience we

:19:00.:19:02.

need because we have a young squad. This game is one of them, what we

:19:03.:19:07.

have to handle and hopefully we'll get into Europe next year and tried

:19:08.:19:16.

to get better. Around 1000 1200 Celtic fans are expected ahead of

:19:17.:19:20.

this game tomorrow night. I have some special advice from the Foreign

:19:21.:19:24.

Office given recent security scares, being told not to travel on the

:19:25.:19:28.

metro and also advising not to congregate in large groups with

:19:29.:19:33.

colours and flags. Plenty more build-up tomorrow across all BBC

:19:34.:19:36.

outlets head of the match. The Scotland international

:19:37.:19:38.

Steven Naismith says he could be approaching a crossroads

:19:39.:19:41.

in his career. He's been a bit-part player

:19:42.:19:42.

at English Premiership club Everton recently and may have to move

:19:43.:19:45.

in the January transfer window But he's not just concerned

:19:46.:19:47.

about his own wellbeing, Steven Naismith can't pick used of

:19:48.:20:03.

not thinking of others less fortunate than himself. The Scotland

:20:04.:20:08.

striker was in Glasgow at a Christmas lunch which he sponsors

:20:09.:20:11.

for the city 's homeless. I enjoy it, you meet a lot of great

:20:12.:20:16.

characters, who will tell you what they think about football and how

:20:17.:20:20.

good a footballer and a bad footballer you are and things like

:20:21.:20:24.

that, so it's great to go in and the afternoon. Home in footballing terms

:20:25.:20:30.

for him at Everton but having only started five matches this season,

:20:31.:20:34.

he's contemplating his future. If something comes up in January and

:20:35.:20:37.

the manager thinks it's best for me to move on, then it's something to

:20:38.:20:41.

think about but it's got to be the right thing. Everything out there in

:20:42.:20:51.

my career so far, it's felt right. I think I need to have the same

:20:52.:20:56.

feeling. Having been a first-team regular at Kilmarnock and Rangers,

:20:57.:20:59.

this is his biggest challenge of his club career. At the start of the

:21:00.:21:05.

season, one I wasn't playing, not many people would have said they

:21:06.:21:09.

would have scored a hat-trick, it shows you how quickly things can

change. He inspired those he met today and he will be chewing over

:21:14.:21:14.

his own future in the coming weeks. One of Scotland's star performers

at the recent rugby World Cup says the national team should be aiming

to win all their matches at next John Hardie feels the form Scotland

talking to our reporter Brian Just a few weeks to go before the

:21:29.:21:42.

big event, it's not Christmas, but the double-header between Glasgow

:21:43.:21:45.

and Edinburgh Rugby and the children here at the academy have been

:21:46.:21:49.

getting some expert coaching from one player who will be involved in

:21:50.:21:52.

these games. John, you must be looking forward to this event? Yes,

:21:53.:21:59.

I've heard so much about it at the rivalry and I hear it goes up a

:22:00.:22:03.

notch, so I'm looking forward to it. Catching up with a few mates in the

:22:04.:22:08.

Glasgow team, it will be a bit of fun, great. You're catapulted

:22:09.:22:13.

straight into the Scottish Rugby World Cup squad, so how do enjoy the

:22:14.:22:18.

experience? It was an awesome experience, something I'll never

:22:19.:22:24.

forget. It was awesome. I can't put other words on it, to be honest. It

:22:25.:22:29.

has a great experience. The boys played well. We are not too far away

:22:30.:22:35.

from making a semifinal which would be cool. Of course, the six Nations

:22:36.:22:40.

coming up just after the New Year. How high should Scotland be

:22:41.:22:43.

challenging in the six Nations next year? I think we'll season high

:22:44.:22:49.

standards. If I'm involved, yeah, we'll be looking to every game and

:22:50.:22:54.

that always the goal, taking one game at a time, and we know we can

:22:55.:23:00.

make sure we play with the best. We should go in there confident.

:23:01.:23:04.

Exciting times for Scotland and for Edinburgh and Glasgow Rugby in a

:23:05.:23:09.

couple of weeks' time. This weekend, European action for both clubs. Keep

:23:10.:23:13.

up-to-date on the BBC sport website. I'm sure we will, David. Thank you

:23:14.:23:15.

very much indeed. Now as Christmas approaches,

:23:16.:23:18.

we're seeing more than enough giant illuminated Santas,

:23:19.:23:21.

reindeer and snowflakes. But in Aberdeen, people are seeing

:23:22.:23:23.

a rather different festive image. Aberdonians are not over

:23:24.:23:26.

indulging in seasonal spirit. Instead, it's an art project

:23:27.:23:29.

bringing seven-metre high luminous and our reporter Fiona Stalker

:23:30.:23:31.

has been to see them. Massive lit up air filled rabbits,

:23:32.:23:48.

like something from your wildest dreams. This colony of bunnies made

union Terrace Gardens there Warren in the name of art. Making artwork I

:23:54.:23:58.

get a bit frustrated there is a barrier between people that they're

:23:59.:24:02.

not allowed to touch things but I deliberately make these things so

:24:03.:24:04.

people can gently touch them and every now and then you might see

:24:05.:24:10.

lipstick mark kisses on them. People get quite amorous with them which I

:24:11.:24:15.

really like. I like crossing over that boundary. These bunnies have

:24:16.:24:19.

lit up skies and imaginations, from Sydney to Istanbul to Boston and now

:24:20.:24:23.

they are here as part of Aberdeen's Winter Festival, only a hop away

:24:24.:24:30.

from the Christmas village. I like them. Why'd you like them? Because

:24:31.:24:35.

they are big. There are great, good use of space. Fantastic. But the

:24:36.:24:43.

rabbits have got some very twitchy. My first impression, really

:24:44.:24:46.

disappointed for some it reminds me of Easter. This is Christmas, and we

:24:47.:24:51.

have bunnies. It would be lovely to see a nativity something which

:24:52.:24:55.

reflected Christmas. We have Christmas music and Christmas lights

:24:56.:25:00.

so where is the Nativity? Organisers say it's about attracting people to

:25:01.:25:04.

the city centre. As the wind started a blowhard in Aberdeen, the bunnies

:25:05.:25:08.

face a difficult first night in the new Scottish open.

:25:09.:25:11.

And the bunnies have actually had to be deflated tonight

:25:12.:25:14.

Now just before the weather, here's a reminder of how much rain

:25:15.:25:19.

Greenkeepers at an Aberdeen golf club were called into action

:25:20.:25:22.

to rescue a salmon that had become trapped in a bunker.

:25:23.:25:25.

It happened at Peterculter Golf Club on Monday morning.

:25:26.:25:28.

The course was flooded over the weekend, after the River Dee

:25:29.:25:31.

And one of the keepers managed to grab hold of the fish and release

:25:32.:25:38.

So, will it be raining cats and dogs, and salmon?

:25:39.:25:42.

Yes, wet and windy weather still to be had, I'm afraid. It has been very

:25:43.:25:54.

wet and windy, reports of trees being blown down in the Borders.

:25:55.:25:58.

Some lorries were blown over in the Isle of Skye. Wet and windy weather,

:25:59.:26:03.

strong gusts, it's not over yet, a moody picture across the Hebrides.

:26:04.:26:07.

Yes, we have had some quite gloomy weather so far today. You can see

:26:08.:26:15.

the strongest gusts, 75 mph, in the Borders, 70 miles an hour, and the

:26:16.:26:21.

Central Belt, 50-60 mph. We will continue to see some very strong

:26:22.:26:25.

wind as we had to the evening, some weather warnings in force, yellow

:26:26.:26:29.

warnings, for wind, rain, and they will expire as we had through the

:26:30.:26:34.

night but a warning for the wind, it will continue tomorrow as well

:26:35.:26:37.

across the northern and western aisles, and for the north-west

:26:38.:26:41.

coast, too. We have seen the back of the rain continuing to edge away

:26:42.:26:45.

from us. Behind it, much colder air after what has been a mild day

:26:46.:26:49.

today, still some strong gusts to be had across the Northern Isles,

:26:50.:26:54.

perhaps storm force for a while. Temperatures dipping 21-3 and the

:26:55.:26:58.

showers falling snow up over the higher levels towards the North and

:26:59.:27:02.

even the lower level for a time with a risk of icy stretches tomorrow

:27:03.:27:06.

morning. Generally, brighter day. There will be some very blustery

:27:07.:27:12.

showers falling snow over the hills, especially towards the north but

:27:13.:27:16.

also some sunny spells as well, so a close look tomorrow afternoon, some

:27:17.:27:21.

strong gusts, feeling much colder, 5-6 and further towards the north,

:27:22.:27:24.

the showers falling snow over the higher ground and to lower levels

:27:25.:27:28.

for a time. The best of any brightness towards the East, with

:27:29.:27:32.

gusts of 60 miles an hour across the northern isles and then, by Friday,

:27:33.:27:37.

still some showers, still quite blustery, some snow over the hills

:27:38.:27:41.

and there will be some brighter spells and feeling much colder, 5-6,

:27:42.:27:45.

but the wind will tend to ease and they will tend to ease for Saturday,

:27:46.:27:49.

as well. Some rain in store for Sunday.

:27:50.:27:51.

I'll be back with the headlines at 8.00pm and the late bulletin just

:27:52.:27:58.

Until then, from everyone on the team, right across

:27:59.:28:02.

the country, have a very good evening.

:28:03.:28:14.

Christmas Day may be the highlight of the holidays...
