A group of Glaswegians has arrived at a migrant camp in France

to offer medical help, warm clothing and blankets.

The volunteers, on their second trip to Calais, say they've been

overwhelmed by the generosity of the Scottish public.

Boxes bound for migrants in Calais. Having been before, these volunteers

know what kind of supplies are needed, especially now the weather

has turned wintry. The conditions of the people there, absolutely bad.

People do not have shoes, blankets. They get three, four people covered

by bankers. Doctors are travelling on the trip as well, ready to treat

migrants for all kinds of injuries as well as serious medical

conditions. For people with cardiovascular diseases, problems

with the heart, blood pressure tablets, but mostly trying to help

with the basics and lots of antibiotics to combat the weather

because of the snow. Conditions are cramped and basic. The volunteers

say people are desperate for help. It is very muddy and wet. People

need blankets and warm clothes, jackets, that kind of thing. When we

went the last time we didn't have enough of those things. We had some

that was donated very kindly by the Scottish people and again, we want

to say thank you so much to them. Compared to their last visit,

volunteers say the situation in what is known as the jungle seems to have

worsened further, prompting plans for more aid trips like this one

from Scotland the to migrant camps of Calais.

Concern is being expressed about the future of

the aluminium smelter at Fort William.

Owner Rio Tinto has informed staff that it plans to review its

supporting more than 160 full time jobs.

Police are investigating an attack on a man in East Dunbartonshire.

head injuries, but has since discharged himself.

The news from Melbourne this evening is that Andy Murray is through to

the last 16 of the Chilean open, but he is more concerned tonight with

family matters. After his match he headed straight to hospital

accompanied by his mother to check on the condition of his

father-in-law, Nigel Sears. His daughter, Kim, is married to Andy

and is pregnant with their first child, he was a coach to former

world number one from Serbia, Ana Ivanovic and during her match, Mr

Sears was taken ill. He was said by Andy Murray's brother Jimmy to be

sitting up, conscious and talking and hospital this evening. On court

it was a four set win for Andy Murray against Joao Sousa. Wrapping

things up 6-2 in the fourth set. It means all being well, Andy Murray

will be back to contest the last 16 in Melbourne on Monday.

Football, and in the Premiership, Celtic won to restore

against the team above them, Kilmarnock.

In the Championship, Hibs' win puts them into second place.

They're two points behind Rangers, who have a game in hand.

Good evening. It was cloudy enter the day across the country and now,

rain arrives from the South West. Moving northwards this evening and

overnight. But staying mild. There is the rain moving up to cover most

parts of the mainland, turning lighter in nature. It is a mild

night, a second band of rain arriving around 5 in the morning,

temperatures of 8 sources for money. Tomorrow, strong winds at times. The

rain pushing up towards the Northern Isles. Behind it, some murky

conditions, particularly across the Southern uplands and the West Coast.

But temperatures of 13 or 14. Hopefully some holes in the cloud

around my first and perhaps done towards Edinburgh and East Lothian.
