Scotland's politicians have been arguing the case for and against

the UK remaining in the EU now that the date for

The Prime Minister David Cameron has said the vote will take place

After long talks with the EU leaders, David Cameron today emerged

from Number Ten to declare that he would be campaigning for the UK to

stay in a reformed EU. And he called the date for the referendum. I will

go to Parliament and propose that the British people decide our future

in Europe through an in-out referendum on Thursday the 23rd of

June. In doing so, he fired a starting gun for the campaign ahead.

Soon after David Cameron struck his deal with European leaders

campaigning in the referendum got underway in earnest. Here in

Glasgow, and across Scotland. The campaign to stay in the EU has been

backed by the leaders of Scotland's main political parties, but nothing

is being taken for granted. I would like to think we have the majority

of Scotland behind us. People in Scotland understand what working in

Europe does Andy protections and opportunities it gives them. We had

a positive message from the First Minister about it as well, but we

are not complacent. Campaigning in Edinburgh, supporters of a vote to

leave the EU say things are far less clear-cut. I think the gap will

narrow between Scotland and England. At the end of the day, the momentum

is with us. I believe the United Kingdom and Scotland will vote to

leave. David Cameron now wants to get on with the referendum, but the

timing means a clash with the Holyrood election on May the 5th. I

think it is the wrong date, not just because of the overlap with the

Scottish parliament elections, but also because we need time to have

the big positive debate I have been talking about. But that is passed.

The date has been named, so it's time to get on with it. And that is

exactly what both sides of the campaign will be doing in the coming

weeks. Then the decision on whether Britain should remain in or leave

the EU is up to you. A 36-year-old man has been arrested

and charged with the murder Five-month-old Hayley Davidson died

in hospital on Wednesday. She had been there since Sunday,

after police were called to a house in Buckhaven following a report

of concern for a child. Mountain rescuers, a dog and a drone

have been deployed in the search for a pair of climbers

missing on Ben Nevis. Tim Newton and Rachel Slater

from Yorkshire were reported missing One year on from their Lord, the

cross-party disability campaign group One In Five have held a rally

outside the Scottish Parliament. Disabled and non-disabled political

figures from across the political spectrum came together this

afternoon outside the Scottish Parliament. One of the aims of

today's rally is to improve the representation of disabled people in

political life. To coincide with this rally, the Scottish Government

announced a new fund of ?200,000 to try and help disabled people into

politics. The One In Five campaign, who organised today's events,

welcomed the announcement of this new fund. The One In Five campaign

is delighted with the Scottish Government's announcement of the

democratic participation fund. This will smash the barriers, both

financial and non-financial, that is able to people face in entering

politics. Today's event also ensures that political parties are putting

disabled people's writes in their manifestos. It is not just about

money, it is also about making sometimes very practical changes. It

is not rocket science, let's do something about making sure meetings

are held in accessible places, that communication methods are

accessible. Disabled people represent 20% of the electorate, and

it is time their rights were put front and centre of what happens in

Scotland. I encourage every disabled person to use their vote in May. 20%

of Scotland's population has a disability, but only 5% of them are

in politics. One thing that this campaign hopes to change.

It has been a fairly blustery day, with frequent showers across the

country for some. The snow risk continues across the north-west,

with some ice as well. There is a Met Office yellow warning in force.

For most, the showers this evening will be offering, driven by strong

westerly winds. On the high roads, some difficult conditions with that

snow. By tomorrow, still wet in the West. Drier for the East towards

parts of the Lothians and Aberdeenshire. But further west, a

pretty wet start, with heavy snow across the higher roads here.
