The SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon is calling for "cast-iron

assurances" from the UK Government on the future

of Clyde shipbuilding after union leaders raised concerns.

The Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson

says the Defence Secretary has assured her there has been "no

change" to the orders or timetable for new warships.

Here's our political correspondent, Glenn Campbell.

review in November last year, which means all anti-submarine frigates

are coming, post the light order on top of that and the to offshore

patrol vehicles. They are coming to the Clyde as discussed last year,

but to the same timetable and number. In the defence review, the

Government reduced the number frigates it wants from 13 eight. But

it ordered an extra two offshore patrol vessels. The systems which

operate the to Glasgow shipyards say they are negotiating a production

schedule for these. The question is, whether or not at work will be

enough to tide over the Clyde yards until work on the frigates begins.

On social media, the Labour leader said the Tories must keep promises

made on shipbuilding. This prompted the SNP leader to reply that there

were Labour promises to made during the independence referendum. I was

there speaking to the unions and management last week, making the

case for why we need to make sure the offshore vessels will be

protector. It it is to my date -- deep regret they didn't win as the

Tories must fulfil their promises. In Edinburgh, multipart support for

a bike ride promoting greener transport for which the Lib Dem

leader took time out to warn against any backpedalling on shipbuilding

promises. This raised serious concerns about the future of orders

at the yard and it is important the Conservative Government gives an

absolute commitment. We need to end this feast and famine of orders for

the yards and give a commitment to maintain the workforce. Once again,

the future of Clyde shipbuilding has become an election issue.
