and 6.30pm to bring you all the news, developments

:05:19.:05:21.

and reaction to the election. The Liam Fee murder trial has heard

:05:22.:05:26.

a police officer describe a scene of "mayhem" at the toddler's house

:05:27.:05:29.

on the night he died. PC Leanne St Aubyn told the court

:05:30.:05:33.

she had been called out after reports of a two-year-old

while watching a video of Liam's body lying on the floor

:05:41.:05:45.

of his bedroom. Lisa Summers reports from the High

:05:46.:05:49.

court in Livingston. Jury members looked visibly

:05:50.:06:00.

distressed as they watched the 12 minute long video. The film shows

the interior of the house near Glen Rhodes where Liam lived with his

the interior of the house near Glen mother, Rachel, and her partner

:06:08.:06:12.

Naomi. It was filmed hours after the toddler was pronounced dead. The

:06:13.:06:18.

young boy's body is seen on the floor, dressed in pyjamas. His left

:06:19.:06:22.

leg bent at the knee, his right leg straight. Nearby is a travel cot and

:06:23.:06:27.

a buggy, a number of family pictures on the walls. Immediately

:06:28.:06:30.

afterwards, the jury asked the judge for a break. Both accused could be

:06:31.:06:36.

seen crying. Later, APC told the court she went to the Fees' house

:06:37.:06:44.

after receiving reports of a problem in cardiac arrest. She described the

:06:45.:06:47.

scene when she arrived as mayhem. She said sometimes Rachel Fee was

:06:48.:06:55.

crying, sometimes subdued. She said paramedics were trying to

:06:56.:06:58.

resuscitate Liam. The officer said Rachel brought another young boy to

:06:59.:07:01.

him and said, tell them what you have done. PC Sam Goodwood told the

:07:02.:07:06.

court he had also attended that night. He said the young boy mumbled

:07:07.:07:11.

something like, I strangled Liam. He said he took the boy to the police

:07:12.:07:15.

station where he later said it wasn't an accident and he meant it.

:07:16.:07:19.

Under cross-examination, the prosecution agreed that Rachel Fee

:07:20.:07:26.

fell to her knees when paramedics told her they couldn't save him.

:07:27.:07:32.

Rachel Fee denied murdering Liam on March the 22nd 2014 and blaming his

:07:33.:07:35.

death on that child. The trial continues.

:07:36.:07:40.

You're watching Reporting Scotland from the BBC.

:07:41.:07:42.

Still to come on tonight's programme:

:07:43.:07:46.

The dance routine that has turned a group of Police Scotland officers

:07:47.:07:53.

into an Internet hit. In sport, could the door be open for drugs

:07:54.:07:57.

cheats, as the anti-doping agency stops funding tests in Scottish

:07:58.:08:03.

football? And a new deal for the SPFL, enhanced coverage promised,

:08:04.:08:04.

but will it keep fans happy? Around 400 mourners gathered

:08:05.:08:10.

in Dunfermline for the funeral of an Afghanistan veteran,

:08:11.:08:12.

who died after collapsing 31-year-old Captain David Seath

:08:13.:08:14.

suffered a suspected cardiac arrest while running

:08:15.:08:18.

and died later in hospital. He was described as a hero

:08:19.:08:20.

and an inspiration. A sombre moment as family, friends

:08:21.:08:39.

and colleagues of David Seath gathered to remember the man they

:08:40.:08:42.

described as the life and soul of the party. To reflect that

:08:43.:08:48.

sentiment, the family asked that it be a celebration of his life and

:08:49.:08:53.

bright clothes should be worn. The tribute read on behalf of his

:08:54.:08:57.

brother -- his brother said how proud they were that he had been an

:08:58.:09:01.

officer of 29 commando agement royal art really. Colleagues from the

:09:02.:09:08.

regiment in Arbroath where he was based paid their respects. Villa it

:09:09.:09:12.

is great sadness that we are here today to say farewell to Captain

:09:13.:09:18.

David Seath. He was an inspiration to us all and I could not have

:09:19.:09:22.

wished for a final officer. He will be sorely missed in our thoughts and

:09:23.:09:27.

prayers are with David's loved ones at this trying time. Last year he

:09:28.:09:32.

led a team of young people for the annual ten tours we can hike on

:09:33.:09:37.

Dartmoor. When we start the challenge we like to finish it.

:09:38.:09:43.

After the service, mourners lined up behind the coffin of David Seath,

:09:44.:09:47.

draped in a union flag. They followed the first as it moved

:09:48.:09:51.

slowly away from the church for a private burial. -- they followed the

:09:52.:09:56.

hearse. The congregation heard it was fitting that his final act was

:09:57.:10:00.

supporting others. Captain David Seath was running the London

:10:01.:10:04.

Marathon for the charity out the heroes. He collapsed three miles

:10:05.:10:07.

from the finish line. -- Help For Heroes. Rinse and family day they

:10:08.:10:15.

will balk at final three miles in his memory. -- friends and family

:10:16.:10:18.

say they will walk that final three miles.

A 31-year-old Bulgarian man has been jailed for life for the murder

:10:21.:10:23.

of a Perthshire jeweller, who he hit over the head

:10:24.:10:25.

Nikola Zhulev was earlier convicted of killing 49-year-old

:10:26.:10:28.

Alan Gardner at his home in Balbeggie in April last year.

:10:29.:10:31.

At the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge Lady Rae told Zhulev he had

:10:32.:10:34.

carried out a "planned, premeditated killing" of Mr Gardner,

:10:35.:10:37.

a vulnerable man whom he had "mercilessly exploited".

:10:38.:10:41.

Zhulev will serve at least 21 years in prison.

:10:42.:10:47.

A construction worker, who died after an incident

:10:48.:10:49.

on the new Queensferry Crossing, has been named.

:10:50.:10:53.

62-year-old John Grant Cousin from Northumberland was working

:10:54.:10:56.

on the bridge being built across the Firth of Forth.

:10:57.:10:59.

He is thought to have been hit by a moving boom on a crane

:11:00.:11:03.

An investigation is being carried out by Police Scotland

:11:04.:11:06.

A Renfrewshire family is calling for an independent review

:11:07.:11:12.

into the automatic early release of prisoners in England and Wales.

:11:13.:11:16.

It follows the murder of their son, Craig Hepburn, four years ago

:11:17.:11:20.

at the hands of two men, who were being supervised

:11:21.:11:23.

in the community, after serving half of their sentences imposed

:11:24.:11:26.

Our home affairs correspondent, Reevel Alderson, reports.

:11:27.:11:36.

Craig Hepburn, a member of Milngavie Pipe Band, was 19 when he

:11:37.:11:44.

was murdered near Huddersfield on a family visit enjoying an evening in

:11:45.:11:49.

a local pub. In a random act, Craig was attacked by Anthony driver and

:11:50.:11:53.

Luke Elliott, who stabbed him 11 times and kicked him as he lay

:11:54.:11:57.

bleeding in the gutter. Both were on licence, released early from prison.

:11:58.:12:02.

It has left Craig's parents wondering why the men, who each had

:12:03.:12:05.

a string of convictions for violence, were free to kill their

:12:06.:12:10.

son. The justice system, had they made them serve their full-time,

:12:11.:12:19.

there need to be tougher sentences handed out for crimes like this and

:12:20.:12:23.

they should have to serve their whole time and not be allowed out

:12:24.:12:27.

early. If they are out on licence, they should carry that through. The

:12:28.:12:32.

national offender management service carried out a review of the case

:12:33.:12:36.

last year. Concludes that Luke Elliott, convicted of murdering

:12:37.:12:40.

Craig, had been recalled to prison for breaching licence conditions but

:12:41.:12:43.

was rereleased three months before the killing. Anthony driver,

:12:44.:12:48.

convicted of manslaughter, as four previous convictions and was also on

:12:49.:12:53.

licence. The report says it wasn't sufficiently controlled within his

:12:54.:12:55.

licence after breaching it several times. For every paragraph in that

:12:56.:13:00.

report, there are lessons to be learned. We would like to see those

:13:01.:13:05.

lessons learned, but you will be certain another family in ten years

:13:06.:13:08.

from now and those same lessons will certain another family in ten years

:13:09.:13:13.

have to be learned. The national offender management service says it

:13:14.:13:15.

will carefully consider any findings offender management service says it

:13:16.:13:19.

in this case but it couldn't say whether any of its recommendations

:13:20.:13:23.

had been carried out. The Hepburns want an enquiry into an early

:13:24.:13:27.

release in England to ensure other people don't suffer like they have.

:13:28.:13:30.

A look at other stories from across the country.

We want to ensure the return of the vessel, which was built specifically

:14:45.:15:00.

for this route, which has been operating since 2003.

:15:01.:15:03.

A spoof tourist brochure for a non-existent island has

:15:04.:15:05.

appeared at a number of sites around Orkney.

:15:06.:15:07.

The publication features an island called Mama Westray and claims

:15:08.:15:09.

actress Cate Blanchett is a regular visitor.

:15:10.:15:11.

Some of the attractions include fish-eating pigs

:15:12.:15:14.

and "the world-famous Tomb of the Haddock".

:15:15.:15:17.

There is concern among some locals on the real island of PAPA

:15:18.:15:20.

Westray that the brochure could cause confusion.

:15:21.:15:27.

The public's being urged to help track the spread of "nurdles"

:15:28.:15:30.

You may not have heard of them, but nurdles are tiny plastic pellets

:15:31.:15:35.

used in the manufacture of a huge range of everyday items.

:15:36.:15:38.

And they're being washed up in their billions.

:15:39.:15:40.

Our environment correspondent, David Miller, has been on a "nurdle

:15:41.:15:42.

Scotland's coastline, it's beautiful, but discarded plastics

:15:43.:15:55.

are an ever-present threat. We have grown accustomed to scenes like

:15:56.:15:59.

these. But there's another problem washing up on our shores - nurdles.

:16:00.:16:04.

The next time you are at the beach, keep an eye out. There is a good

:16:05.:16:08.

chance you will spot some for yourself. After a few minutes of

:16:09.:16:14.

searching, I have found dozens of these tiny plastic pellets. The

:16:15.:16:18.

question is, what are they? Where do they come from? What impact are they

:16:19.:16:24.

having on our marine environment? This factory uses billions of them

:16:25.:16:29.

every week. It produces data cables. The team here works to ensure

:16:30.:16:33.

spilled pellets don't get washed down the drain and out to sea. I

:16:34.:16:37.

like to spend a lot of time outdoors, whether that be in the

:16:38.:16:41.

hills or on the beach, so for me, personally, it is a good cause, to

:16:42.:16:45.

take on board, but as a business as well, it is also very important to

:16:46.:16:51.

us. The pellets are transported by the lorry-load. They may be

:16:52.:16:55.

manufactured in Scotland, or shipped in from abroad. One lost load can

:16:56.:17:01.

cause problems for decades. Maybe even centuries. It makes me feel sad

:17:02.:17:06.

as a Scotsman, on some of these beautiful beaches that we have

:17:07.:17:09.

around our coastline, and you go along and they are spoiled. That is

:17:10.:17:13.

only 50 grammes of them. But look at that, the volume that's there. It's

:17:14.:17:19.

horrendous. Really is. But other companies may be less conscientious

:17:20.:17:28.

and scientists studying seabirds are worried. Maybe 15% of puffins will

:17:29.:17:33.

have some plastic within them. Certainly these very small plastic

:17:34.:17:36.

pellets are a bigger problem for something like a puffin than the

:17:37.:17:40.

larger plastic items that will affect some of the others species.

:17:41.:17:44.

Up there is where we would find the most nurdles. Reports from

:17:45.:17:48.

volunteers across Scotland and beyond are being used to build-up a

:17:49.:17:50.

volunteers across Scotland and detailed picture of the scale of the

:17:51.:17:55.

problem. It helps us build-up an evidence base and collect data to

:17:56.:17:58.

show industry that there is a problem on our beaches, so if you

:17:59.:18:03.

are on your beach, keep telling us about any nurdles you find and we

:18:04.:18:07.

will be interested to hear and it will help to contribute to solving

:18:08.:18:13.

the problem. The search goes on. But we have already discovered this is a

:18:14.:18:17.

problem we are handing on to future generations.

:18:18.:18:25.

Let's get all the sport now, from David.

:18:26.:18:27.

An anti-doping expert's told BBC Scotland friction between the SFA

:18:28.:18:29.

and the body that carries out drug testing could leave the door open

:18:30.:18:33.

UK Anti-doping says it'll provide no funding for tests in Scottish

:18:34.:18:39.

The SFA is unhappy but will now fund testing itself,

:18:40.:18:43.

A stark reminder that football is not immune to an issue very much in

:18:44.:19:01.

the public eye. Two months ago, BBC Scotland revealed that only eight

:19:02.:19:05.

drugs tests had taken place in Scottish football in nine months.

:19:06.:19:09.

Since then, a further 20 have taken place, all of which were funded by

:19:10.:19:15.

UK Anti-Doping, but today they have confirmed to BBC Scotland that it's

:19:16.:19:19.

withdrawing all of its funding to Scottish football for the next 12

:19:20.:19:23.

months and finance will only be provided in special circumstances.

:19:24.:19:29.

They said: There is a degree of bemusement

:19:30.:19:38.

within the SFA headquarters over that decision, particularly in light

:19:39.:19:42.

of the fact that they will continue to part-fund the anti-doping

:19:43.:19:47.

programme of the much-richer English Football Association. The Chief

:19:48.:19:52.

Executive says her organisation can only do so much.

:19:53.:20:01.

This anti-doping expert says such a frosty relationship between the two

:20:02.:20:07.

could create problems of its own. The worst case scenario is, if there

:20:08.:20:12.

is a fragmented approach, from those organisations, and then there is a

:20:13.:20:16.

lack of testing, then people who plan to dope could see the loopholes

:20:17.:20:19.

and exploit them. plan to dope could see the loopholes

:20:20.:20:29.

is deemed low-risk with Jordan McMillan the only player currently

:20:30.:20:30.

banned. The Scottish Premier Football League

critics of the BBC's Hello, good evening and welcome...

:20:42.:20:56.

It is over 40 years old and is now the only Scottish football

:20:57.:20:59.

highlights show on terrestrial television. Today's agreement means

:21:00.:21:05.

four more years of Sportscene. Neither the BBC or the SPFL will

:21:06.:21:10.

confirm how much the deal is worth. The league's Chief Executive simply

:21:11.:21:13.

says the SPFL board has been very robust and clear in its view of what

:21:14.:21:18.

we believe Scottish football coverage is worth and we are pleased

:21:19.:21:21.

this has been taken on board and reflected by an improved agreement.

:21:22.:21:25.

The new deal doesn't mean live league games on the BBC. But there

:21:26.:21:31.

is a promise match coverage will be improved. As well as the television

:21:32.:21:36.

highlights programme and our match commentaries and what we provide

:21:37.:21:40.

online, we will also be offering clips on social media, the coverage

:21:41.:21:44.

will be more extensive, there will be more cameras at all of the games

:21:45.:21:49.

rather than a select few. Supporters are already voicing their opinions

:21:50.:21:52.

and they will be disappointed at still having to wait till Sunday

:21:53.:21:56.

night to see the best of the weekend's action. If the show is to

:21:57.:22:01.

go out on a Sunday, we have to have improved HD quality television

:22:02.:22:04.

pictures, we need a decent coverage of every match, not just the ones

:22:05.:22:08.

involving Rangers and Celtic and we need content that the fans don't see

:22:09.:22:13.

at the moment, which is cutting-edge analysis, referee opinions, fan

:22:14.:22:19.

input. You will be able to judge for yourselves in the BBC's TV coverage

:22:20.:22:23.

is enhanced by the new deal. But you will have to wait till the titles

:22:24.:22:25.

roll at the start of next season. Andy Murray remains on course

:22:26.:22:28.

to defend his title He beat Gilles Simon of France to go

:22:29.:22:29.

through to the quarterfinals. A very stylish match-point

:22:30.:22:33.

here as the Scot claimed his 14th Murray will next face a quarterfinal

:22:34.:22:37.

clash with Tomas Berdych. That is all from me.

:22:38.:22:53.

How is your running man? I'm more jogging man! Come on then! Later!

:22:54.:22:56.

Thank you very much. A group of Police Scotland officers

:22:57.:22:59.

have become an Internet hit, after being challenged to show

:23:00.:23:01.

off their best dance moves Their "running man" routine

:23:02.:23:03.

was filmed in front of one of Scotland's most famous landmarks

:23:04.:23:08.

and it's been viewed hundreds If you walk down the Royal Mile...

:23:09.:23:23.

On duty at Edinburgh Castle, nothing out of the ordinary, unlike PC Mark

:23:24.:23:27.

Love's last visit. Were you in a viral video? That's him. And his

:23:28.:23:36.

colleagues about to baffle the tourists. I wanted the iconic

:23:37.:23:46.

backdrop of the castle so we had that, we hijacked a piper from the

:23:47.:23:48.

backdrop of the castle so we had Royal Mile and brought him up and

:23:49.:23:53.

thought we would include a bit of Ceilidh dancing as well. That didn't

:23:54.:23:59.

go particularly well, but the idea was it was supposed to contain this

:24:00.:24:03.

"running man" dance. How it looked compared to expectations, I will let

:24:04.:24:12.

you decide. Why? The answer lies with this fleet-footed officer in

:24:13.:24:16.

New Zealand, the star of a recruitment video aimed at showing

:24:17.:24:22.

the lighter side of policing. Then, the Internet took over. The NYPD

:24:23.:24:27.

were challenged to offer their own take on the "running man". In turn,

:24:28.:24:35.

the gauntlet was thrown down to Police Scotland. I was mortified at

:24:36.:24:40.

the time, to be honest. The reaction since has been really positive. We

:24:41.:24:43.

have had Strictly Come Dancing on the phone this morning trying to

:24:44.:24:48.

sign us up(!) Not quite Strictly viewing figures, but in 24 hours,

:24:49.:24:52.

around 500,000 people have watched online. It is now the turn of

:24:53.:24:56.

officers in London, Toronto and recruits at Scotland's police

:24:57.:25:00.

college to determine whether the "running man" challenge has got

:25:01.:25:01.

legs. Christopher will not appreciate

:25:02.:25:11.

being asked to do his "running man" dance, am I right? Possibly! You

:25:12.:25:15.

might be dancing on the desk at the end of this weather forecast! Hello.

:25:16.:25:20.

It was a lovely spring day across many parts of the country. It will

:25:21.:25:22.

feel like summer for some at the end many parts of the country. It will

:25:23.:25:25.

of the weekend and into next week. This evening, some late sunshine

:25:26.:25:29.

around. Really quite pleasant in the day. Any showers across the far

:25:30.:25:32.

north-west will fade, maybe one or two for the Northern Isles, but most

:25:33.:25:37.

will be dry overnight, light winds, temperatures in towns and cities

:25:38.:25:42.

around 7 Celsius. In the countryside, it will be cooler. So,

:25:43.:25:46.

to tomorrow. It is a dry day, it's a bright day. There will be some high

:25:47.:25:50.

cloud for central, southern and eastern parts, so a hazy look to

:25:51.:25:53.

things. It won't spoil things at all. Across the north-west, that is

:25:54.:25:56.

where the best of the prolonged sunshine will be. By mid-afternoon,

:25:57.:26:01.

16, 17 degrees in the south-west. That cloud thick enough potentially

:26:02.:26:04.

for the odd light shower, but you will be unlucky if you catch one.

:26:05.:26:08.

Always cooler towards the east coast with the breeze coming in off the

:26:09.:26:12.

North Sea. Best of the sunshine towards the west. Far better here

:26:13.:26:16.

tomorrow compared with today. Fairly pleasant for the far north and the

:26:17.:26:19.

Northern Isles. Rest of the afternoon into the evening, some

:26:20.:26:23.

late spells of sunshine to enjoy. And into the weekend, on Saturday we

:26:24.:26:26.

were talking yesterday about this area of rain pushing up from the

:26:27.:26:29.

south. It is still coming, but it is further west, which means we should

:26:30.:26:33.

stay dry. We are dragging up warmer air from the south. However, look at

:26:34.:26:40.

the sea surface temperatures, and with the breeze coming in over the

:26:41.:26:44.

east coast, it will be chilly. This is how we look on Saturday.

:26:45.:26:49.

Reasonably dry, but there will be some haar around. That will take a

:26:50.:26:52.

while to clear back. In the west, best of the sunshine around the west

:26:53.:26:56.

coast and temperatures again warmest in the south-west, coolest in the

:26:57.:26:59.

east. Sunday, some low cloud to start the day, but that should burn

:27:00.:27:04.

back. In the west, in the sunshine, 20 to 23 Celsius, always cooler on

:27:05.:27:09.

the eastern coast. Come a mile or two inland, it will improve. Monday,

:27:10.:27:14.

temperatures into the mid-20s, particularly in the west.

:27:15.:27:18.

Now, a reminder of tonight's main news:

:27:19.:27:21.

People across Scotland have been casting their votes at polling

:27:22.:27:23.

Four million of us are registered to vote in the election,

:27:24.:27:29.

which will see 129 MSPs returned to the Scottish Parliament.

:27:30.:27:33.

I'll be back with the headlines at 8.00pm and the late bulletin just

:27:34.:27:37.

Until then, from everyone on the team - right

:27:38.:27:40.

across the country - have a very good evening.

:27:41.:27:43.
