Nurses in Scotland believe the NHS is in need of serious improvement.

That's according to a survey by the Royal College of Nursing.

It suggested nine out of 10 nurses to feel increased workload,

financial pressures and a rising number of patients were impacting

The Scottish Government said they're investing record levels of money

1000 nurses took part in the survey. One third said the health service

required serious improvement. Additional pressure, staff shortages

and a lack of time to treat elderly patients property does not properly

all taking their toll. I have spent time with nurses feeling quite

demoralising because they have been left knowing that they have not

responded quickly enough to somebody, have not been able to give

the right care or attention to a family, around issues that matter to

them. Overall, nurses tend to leave quite demoralising when they spend

but under pressure. At the start of their annual Congress, the Royal

College of Nursing said Scotland cannot risk cutting the numbers of

nurses just to balance the books. The government says it has seen

record levels of investment in the health service, whether that is

hospitals in the community or staffing levels, but the Health

Secretary acknowledges that the increase in demand means that there

has to be some change in the way the service operates. That is exactly

why we have brought forward the new national clinical strategy that lays

out ways the services will need to change. We are investing ?27 million

in growing the workforce even more, particularly in, for example, 500

more advanced nurse practitioners, recognising the need for experienced

staff. The National strategy for updating the NHS in Scotland is

expected by 2020. But the warning from nurses at the front line, it

must not come from them. Two young men have been stabbed

and seriously injured in separate attacks -

one in Edinburgh, Police are treating both

as attempted murder. Last night's assault

on a 16-year-old in Baillieston was described by officers

as "brutal", and was carried out

by another youth. Meanwhile, an 18-year-old was victim

of the early morning attack A body's been recovered

from the River Clyde in Glasgow this afternoon,

close to where a missing deaf woman, Kirsty Aitcheson,

was last seen a week ago. A large area near the Kingston

Bridge has been cordoned off The body has not been

formally identified. A bus driver's been arrested

over claims he verbally abused two 20-year-old gay men in Glasgow

and banned them from his bus. The incident is said to have taken

place in the Pollok area The bus company, McGill's says

it doesn't accept discrimination Judo star Stephanie Inglis has

thanked her supporters in a Facebook message

posted by a friend, and said she hopes to be

"up and about" soon. The 27-year-old Commonwealth Games

silver medallist was badly injured in a motorbike taxi

accident in Vietnam. Rail campaigners say small towns

on the new Borders railway have been "regenerated and reinvigorated"

by the line. It opened last year

and carried almost 700,000 people in its

first six months - The Edinburgh to Tweedbank line has

been discussed at a conference in Newtongrange, which is

It is dry and sunny pretty much across the country, although we will

start to see cloud thickening up in the west as we head through tonight.

Outbreaks of patchy rain and drizzle feeding into the west coast by

tomorrow morning. Mild in the West, temperatures, 8-9dC. A lovely area

of high pressure responsible for today's weather. It topples away and

we introduce this weather system from the Atlantic bringing wet and

windy conditions during the course of Sunday. Tomorrow starts dry and

bright, across eastern Scotland and the Northern Isles. Thicker cloud in

the West, and cloud will increase across the country through the day.

Some patchy rain and drizzle, Misty and murky conditions. That weather

system affecting the whole of the UK, bringing rain to Northern

Ireland tomorrow, and into north-west England, down towards

northern part of Wales and into the South West corner. Cloud increasing

across eastern areas, holding onto southern skies. We could see 18

degrees on the course tomorrow, so a change of fortunes here. That band
