In the aftermath of the EU referendum, the Queen has appealed

for quiet thinking and contemplation in political life.

Her remarks were delivered as she opened the Fifth Session

But, as our political editor Brian Taylor reports,

times. Reflecting upon the EU referendum, the presiding officer

urged Scottish optimism. I have never given up hope that we can

recapture the new kind of politics from which this parliament was born.

But it takes determination to move away from the trench warfare of

party lines. It takes real purpose if we are to soften the new binary

divisions, yes or no, leave or remain. The Queen's appeals the calm

was delivered in Holyrood, but undoubtedly intended as a wider

message. One hallmark of leadership in such a fast moving world is

allowing sufficient room for quiet thinking and contemplation. Which

can enable deeper, cooler thinking and contemplation. Which

consideration on how challenges and opportunities can be best addressed.

There was some. -- there was some from Midge Ure. Poetry from Jackie

Kay, exulting diversity. Our strength is our difference. Don't

fear it, don't or can't. It takes more than one language to tell a

story. And from the First Minister, and appeal from personal unity. As

we celebrate this new beginning, let us -- let us look forward with hope

and a shared determination to work tirelessly for the good of all of

Scotland's people and in doing so, to play our part in a stronger

Europe and a better world. Then, after the Queen had left, another

number one Novak Djokovic is out, No such problems for Andy Murray,

who beat Australian John Millman Afterwards, the Scot was asked

whether Djokovic's defeat Well, I need to reach the final four

that results to have any bearing whatsoever on my performance

whatsoever. I have very, very tough guys left in my half of the draw,

especially the next round. But his run has been amazing.

Time for the latest on the weather for the rest of today and tomorrow.

The rain was causing problems at Wimbledon today? Yes, perhaps the

same tomorrow. It has been a day of bright and sunny spells, and some

very heavy and thundery showers. Thanks to one of our Weather

Watchers in North Berwick for sending in this fantastic picture of

the huge shower Cloud rolling in. Showers will ease this evening,

further bright and sunny spells. Tonight the showers become confined

to Western and northern areas. Further east, there will be a lot of

dry weather, there will be some clear spells as well, and for some

seven areas, this will allow to just 45 or six Celsius. -- that is for

some sheltered areas. A breeze from the south South West. A lot of dry

and bright weather tomorrow to start in the East, the showers will become

more widespread from the West during the day. Tomorrow there will tend to

be few of them and they will be like in nature, the odd heavier one in

that -- lighter in nature, the odd heavier one in the north-east.

Across the rest of the UK, a few showers across Northern Ireland, for

much of England and Wales it is looking dry, spells of brightness

and sunshine. Some rain may fringe into the far south of England for

the time and that could interrupt Wimbledon play. It will ease away

during the afternoon and highs of 22 degrees. Into the evening in

Scotland, the showers will ease with further bright sunny spells.
